They essentially built a new engine and were able to put together a semi-working model in under a year, that's impressive if you really know the sort of work that goes into game development. I may feel like a similar engine, and there are different things they copied over, but it is truly a different engine from a performance and architecture standpoint. There's a bug tracker that people use for the devs to get quick feedback, and I'm sure they're monitoring their own servers and testing things out on the dev build. However, I don't think you should assume any one issue to be "an easy fix" without having any understanding of game development works, or really even how the engine works. They know the ladder bug is an issue and I know they are already working on fixing it or have plans to. But don't just assuming it's changing a few lines here or there.

Already frustrated, new player needs advice
herrjon replied to BenCy's topic in New Player Discussion
That's the whole point, if you die you lose everything. That's why those moments got so tense. What I do is relish being a fresh spawn. Most of us got this game not be a pro PvPer and rack up kills while being completely kitted out. The draw is a survival sim. It's easy to survive when you have everything. It's not so easy when you've just got a flashlight and a shirt on your back. It's what makes the game interesting, getting by with what you can scavenge. It's almost refreshing to end up dying after awhile and restart. Sadly I've gotten too good to get myself killed, even when running into the line of fire to heal up people. I know in the Mod I would periodically off myself and start fresh. -
QUESTION: How to regenerate blood? How much Food until FULL?
herrjon replied to cheRubyy's topic in New Player Discussion
I would disagree. In mod all you need is a couple cans of soda and beans to be good for about an hour or longer. In SA, staying healthy takes a lot of upkeep, especially with water (see Merino's latest videos if you don't believe me). If said sniper decided to screw trying to be healthy and just eat/drink until he doesn't get messages, he may be good for a bit, but he won't last long. In the mod any damage you took in a firefight could be easily done away with using a simple blood bag or wolfing down some meat. In SA, sure you can get your blood level back up, but your health will be crappy, without the sniper realizing it (probably has PP turned off). Next shot that hits him will be his last. Of course the system isn't perfect, but it's better and has a lot more potential than what the mod currently has. Just trust the devs. -
Am I naive in wanting to learn the map myself?
herrjon replied to General Desire's topic in New Player Discussion
The reason people talk about towns like they've lived there is because it was a similar map for DayZ Mod and Arma II, and people typically like to hang around a particular area and get to know it. Online map or not that will generally happen. Only handicap they had on the mod was waypoints and login location text. Now there's not of that BS and we see who really knows the map and who doesn't. For me, I will admit I did use the DayZDB loot map in the mod, but that was well after I had explored for a bit and sort of knew my way around. Previous to that I had found in-game maps and studied them, and learned how to navigate with just a map and a general sense of North. Now I can get around in the mod with almost nothing, finding my way back to my body up North without using an online map or looting for any tools. The new stuff in SA did mix things up, but I think I've gotten a handle on it now. I just can't wait to see what they've got planned for far North. Right now it's a bunch of roads basically, but you can sort of picture where they'll plop down towns. I think I'll still live in Zelenogorsk (my "home town") but I'll go exploring up there when they add more. -
I don't have spaghetti or bananas to check for myself, but as this is an alpher, not all the text is going to be filled in yet. Not all the items have visible names or descriptions. Not sure about the settings bit though, those should be good. Just make sure you're connecting to servers that are running your version of the game, and try it out in different servers.

QUESTION: How to regenerate blood? How much Food until FULL?
herrjon replied to cheRubyy's topic in New Player Discussion
Yeah, video will explain it all. Just to be sure though, your food and drink go into the same stomach when consumed, but get digested into different containers. You can hold 4000 water and a whopping 20,000. You need at least 3000 water and 3500 energy (food) in order to regen. You get thirsty messaged under 2000 water, and hungry messages only appear as low as 600. Basically, just eat everything you have now (except dried goods) and eat everything you find from here on out. When eating dried good, you need to drink water alongside it so you don't become thirsty, so keep a water spiggate. Also, your health may be low as all, that can only be regained through regeneration, and that won't regen until after you blood is full. -
There's been lots of hive issues, some servers not properly white listed to the main hive and whatnot, as well as other. As a good general rule, find the servers that work for you, and just keep going back to them by either pressing play or finding them in your history. If you get the "no messaged received for x seconds", that means the server is restarting and it's best to reconnect to that one anyways, for loot. Just wait for about a minute and you should be good.

You can still talk to people and make contact, but you need to be careful about it. Always have cover inbetween you, and do your best to get them to shoulder their weapon, while you do the same.

Is there someone here I can report a hacker to?
herrjon replied to AvaMea's topic in New Player Discussion
There doesn't seem to a section in the DayZ forum, but the old one from DayZ mod is still there http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/forum/32-cheat-reporting/ Otherwise, maybe contact battleye? -
Your health is low, you need to get to a healing status and regen your health. Try at least reading the rest of the thread.
-
Sure you can turn Post Processing off or do the glitch to remove the blur, but by doing so you are essentially removing your health meter. If you feel you can gauge how low your health is and maintain a healthy state then go for it, but don't come crying when you get in your next gunfight and die to a single M4 shot from 300m away because your health got really low and you didn't think it did. Also, yes. Motion blur is a separate option. I have motion blur disabled and Post processing is on. I can see plenty fine, game looks good, and I can tell when I've lost a bit of health in an encounter and just need to chill and eat/drink for a bit. Thanks for the reference Classify, but the props truly goes to our mad scientist Merino.

Not any more due to it became a mess to maintain. We do however have a trusted tag on our teamspeak for folks who don't want to be members but be trusted by the community to heal. -
Ok guide, but you've got the health system a bit wrong. You did get the fact that there is blood and health right, but what health effects, how you regain it, and the healing/healthy statuses you got a bit wrong. 0 blood won't kill you, but 0 health will. Low blood is shown with a desaturated screen, and low health is shown by a blurry screen. The only way to regain health is through natural regeneration. Healing/Healthy isn't the 3rd stage of regeneration, it just simply means you are regening to some degree. You're health will not regen until your blood is full. When your health is full but you are still in a regenerative state, you'll have the healthy status. You can be healthy and low on blood at the same time. Not sure about the rest of the guide as I did not comb through it all, just thought I'd clear up the blood/health system as that seems to be a topic of confusion for people.

What are you talking about, they're everywhere! You can even physically open the doors. Ooooooh...you mean drivable ones...They'll get here when they get here.
-
M4- Military buildings Mosin- Military buildings, cars, some residential houses Unfortunately those are the only two rifles currently in the game. If you're seeing lots of open doors, that means someone has already gone through and picked it clean, so I wouldn't expect too much if you see that.

I don't care how rare it is, im not wearing it :P
herrjon replied to Ineedscoffee's topic in New Player Discussion
You won't take it because it doesn't match? I've got mostly camoish stuff and a pink hoodie, and damn it I'll be wearing that hoodie until someone rips it from my cold deal hands. At the very least, take it and trade it for a pristine acog scope or something. -
This is actually false. In SA, you actually have 2 "pools" that represent your well being. Blood and Health. Your blood level is represented as color saturation, and your health level is represented how blurry your screen is (need PPE enabled). You can actually have 0 blood and still be alive (has been tested) but it's an empty health pool that will kill you. The healthy and healing status are for the health pool. You're healing when your health isn't full but is regenerating from being full up on food/water, and you're healthy when your health is full. These statuses do not react to your blood level. You can have 0 blood and still be healthy (has been tested). Blood you can raise with sailine, bloodbags, regen, etc. Health can ONLY be increased by regeneration. This is why it's so important to be constantly well fed and drink plenty to maintain that healthy status. It's also important to keep your blood level up as well because your health won't regenerate until you're blood is full. That and you can be unconscious with a low enough blood level. I haven't experience a broken leg myself, so I can't say for sure, but I assume not being able to stand up is message enough. If you combine sticks and a rag you can make a splint to use on yourself. Otherwise come on the TS and a medic will help you. If you've logged out already, try hopping back in and see how it is, I've heard relogging will fix broken legs, I just don't know how consistently. -
Could be some server desync, the but the "cancel action" text appears as a default action when press "f" or middle click, to stop yourself from doing that particular action. Just press your hotkey you have assigned and leave everything be and see if it still happens.

How to check temperature/blood level?
herrjon replied to Timecharge's topic in New Player Discussion
Temperature isn't implemented yet as far as I know, and there's no way to really know what your blood level is. -
They're fine speed/health wise, we just need better AI and more of them.

are there already many hackers in this new version?
herrjon replied to cheiroso's topic in General Discussion
Nope, it's a lot better than the mod, and will only get better as time goes on. Probably the only thing people will be able to do is ESP or map hacks, but if they're bad at the gunplay it doesn't matter. The real problem right now is server hoppers and combat loggers. -
