  1. It's not the dev's fault. Rocket himself has asked for all these jackasses to stop being dicks to everyone and saying what should and shouldn't be suggested in the game: http://dayzmod.com/f...-facts-of-life/ Most of them completely ignored this of course. Too convinced that what they want is what Rocket wants. Most of them don't even know he's got factions and questlines planned for endgame. The good thing though is that Rocket has already said he doesn't like forums, reads this forum only occasionally, rarely takes anything away from it, and has toyed with the idea of getting rid of it multiple times, just because of the entitled hipster croud that tends to form around them.

    Humanity should reset on respawn.

STOP FEEDING THE TROLL, he's made several topics like this.
  3. Been seeing alot of people making posts about how zombies are too hard/broken legs/ect. You're more visible now, as long as there's lots of light you're going to be seen, the only way you can fix this is to try playing on bright night servers, or servers just before dawn, just after dusk. You'll be invisible while crawling again. Being that you can't even slow down while crawling until you have a main weapon equipped, making noise is a big problem for fresh spawns day or night. So it's time I give out something I really wanted to keep to myself cause it seems really broken to me. Start going backwards. Technical Breakdown: The biggest difference I've noticed in sneaking tactics is that now, there is almost no way to move at high speed without making noise. That's because they lowered the speed threshold for making noise. Now, crawling at full speed is just above the minimum threshold in almost any terrain to make noise. It's also the reason you make more noise when crouch running. I thought on this and said "I'm making too much noise, cause I'm going too fast. Solution is to slow down." So I tried, problem with that is you are fixed at 2 speeds, fast and slow. In real life if I was going too fast and needed to slow down, I could slow down moderately, instead of all at once, but here, fast is too fast and slow is too slow. When I go fast I make too much noise, and when I go slow, I don't move fast enough to get out of the way. Well, in first person shooters going backwards is usually slower than going forwards. So I tried it. It works. Crawling backwards quickly is slow enough on anything but streets to still be silent. Crouch running backwards is slow enough to have only the first tic on sound. That's the same as fast crawling forward, but it's about 3 or 4 times faster. You might be saying "How do you see when you're going backwards?" Numpad keys 1 and 3, you will look over your shoulder. It's much easier in 3rd person of course, but manageable in first person, especially if you have an Alice or a Ghillie suit, Alice packs have less obstruction on your back, and Ghillie's remove the pack. So next time you're making too much noise, try going backwards. Summary- Try this: Crawl forward at full speed and watch your noise and sight meters, now crouch run backwards and watch your meters. Yes they are the same and you went three times as fast. Use 1 and 3 to look over your shoulder and keep awareness. Crawling backwards fast is silent everywhere but pavement/streets. Will you look silly? Sure, but you'll look silly much faster/safer than you were before. Enjoy surviving longer.

    I hit the JACKPOT!

Donate their stuff to the homeless- Take their shit, pack it up into a bunch of backpacks and then go along the roads just north of the coast, dropping off backpacks in the middle of the road, where new players can easily get it. Once you run out, head back up north and grab a new vehicle full of shit, destroying the old one. Repeat until hoarders stuff is redistributed.

    Alt F4ing becoming absurdly prevalent

Know it sounds rather harsh, but maybe don't stick around the same area after someone DCs right in front of you? Honestly, you didn't expect him to hop back in? Don't get me wrong, disconnecting is the coward's way out, but still, you can't get pissed at him for killing your friend if you just stayed in the same spot. Also, how sure are you that he didn't just have a friend nearby who he told about your location and was happy to DC after killing one of your group? Food for thought.

    Does running increase food expenditure?

Yes, the more you move the more your food and water meter go down. If you're thirsty, you will get hungry much faster. Being that water is so much easier to get than food, it's best to stay hydrated.

Ten Reasons why Kill on Sight is 'Realistic'

Bandits who kill everyone they see aren't bandits, they're called murderers. They're not historically common, and they cannot last long because their actions only hasten their death in the long run. Lets run it down: Murderers find a couple of survivors who have a camp near a town, they kill them take their shit. the survivors will not come back cause they are dead, the murderers get a singular amount of resources, and now must find a new means of gaining resources. Their relationship to survivors is predatory. In the same situation, Bandits instead rob the people, leaving them with more than enough to survive themselves. A week or so later, the bandits come round again, and take another moderate portion of their resources, again leaving them with enough to survive. The bandits get less at a time, but have a long term means of getting resources. Their relationship is parasitic. Now lets put in social factors: The survivors around the area know each other. If someone murders one of the groups the others find out. They either move away from the area, or they group together to defend themselves. If they give the bandits what they ask for and the bandits don't kill them, they're more likely to assume they'll survive if they just give in. This way the bandits can take repeatedly from more and more people, their take grows exponentially with each group of people. The more resources they have the more people they can recruit. The greater their numbers, the less likely it is that the survivors will turn against them. Simplest way to put it: Predatory relationships end faster because either the prey kills the predator, the prey leaves the area the predator hunts in, or the predator kills off all his prey. Parasitic relationships last longer because both parties have less of a chance of dying. Murderers = Predators, Bandits = Parasites.

    Well, that was awkward....

I think I leveled a building on accident by spawning inside it a couple of weeks ago. Logged out to join a buddiy on another server while I was inside the fire station in the middle of elektro. As I join his server I hear the loudest explosion while it's loading and then I'm standing on rubble as my view clears. I stumble down it and get away from the place, thinking someone has a rocket or more explosives, but as I sit in town no more explosions and no one else seems to be near me. Considering it happened right when I logged on, but somehow didn't even hurt me, the more I thought on it, the more I think I may have somehow clipped into the wall, or upset the physics or something. So, I dunno, maybe someone logged out too close to the wall?

    DCing from snipers, snipers complaining.

Coming from someone who obviously wants the Dev team to fix his crappy sniping for him, this line is ironic as hell. Hearing Bandits cry about this has always made me chuckle. I never DC, my Alt-f4 has been disabled for years, dying comes with the game. The 3 times I've been killed by another player, it was 1 hit kills. Enfield and CZ can both be 1 hit kills from long range, the friggin winchester can be a 1 hit kill from short and none of those are rare at all. Bullet through the skull doesn't give them time to DC. They're dead before they can hit Alt F4. If they could disconnect you simply didn't do your job right. Hell, one of my two kills in this game was a 1 hit kill, and it was a headshot with a crossbow against someone with an M4, and I don't even TRY to kill people. I'm not even a bandit, I'm a survivor, what's your excuse? OP's right, but I've been saying it for a month. Bandits say "Deal with it" about nearly every problem, until it's something that makes their deathmatch gameplay more difficult. Then it's not time for them to step it up, then it's time for the devs to change things for them. They couldn't deal with Bandit skins before, and now they can't deal with people DCing.

    Content request: Evil Wizard skin

Iphone: New item to allow communication, with GPS, Facbook and Twitter access, as long as you have signal. When in an area without signal your character just holds it up, sometimes high, sometimes not so high, walking slowly, stopping every once in a while, turning in random directions, and occasionally muttering "... dammit" before trying again in another location. Areas without signal include every area that isn't Cherno, Elektro, and Berez, and signal is still spotty in those areas.
  11. It's the seeing through walls/hitting through walls that irks me the most. Zombies have an ESP range of about 4 feet, and if you get in it, doesn't matter what angle, what's between you, or even if the laws of physics should prevent it, they will approach and attack. That needs to be fixed. What's the point in upping the zombie's vision and hearing if they don't even need it when you're within a certain range? They should be required to actually SEE you, just hearing should never be enough, and their psychic powers definitely shouldn't be enough. If they just heard your footsteps, they should treat that as any other sound and go investigate it, not somehow know it's a human and start bolting for it like a cheetah.

    Will server swapping be removed?

Server side persistence is probably never going to happen. If they even considered it a possibility they would have already implemented it, mainly because it's so much easier to do than working with HIVE. They're more likely to make their own engine for the game than go with server side persistence. You can't really count EVE in the same group as DayZ in lots of ways. One of the reasons they can have so much going on at the same time is cause it takes place in space. Rendering space is rendering nothing, and calculating space's effect on things is also nothing. there is no uphill/downhill (not that makes a difference anyway), no actual ballistics, lighting makes no difference, so it frees up alot of resources for things like predictive movement and networking optimization.
  13. PFFT, if Rocket's going to include credit for anyone who had a similar idea he can put me in too. I actually have a write up for a very similar zombie MMO I made about a month after seeing Dawn of the Dead 04, never finished it though. Got stuck on creating a visual representation of sound, then lost my interest.

    JAG's Escort Service

*reads the name on the sign, walks inside* -Thirty Seconds Pass- *Walks back out annoyed* "... Flagrant false advertising." (Sorry, couldn't resist with a name like that. Kudos on trying to make the world a better place.)
  15. Things to keep in mind: If you have ammunition in your backpack that will work for the weapon you're taking out of it, it will shift that ammunition to your Inventory, attempting to put the extra magazines for the other weapon in the pack, but often "Dropping" them. Usually it targets ammo, but occasionally, it targets other things. Point being, if you have 3 mags in your backpack for the weapon you're switching to your inventory, it WILL be moving 3 items to your inventory, so if needed, do some inventory shifting to accommodate. "Dropping" doesn't mean they land at your feet, it means they land on the nearest spot to you they can. Sometimes it's at your feet, sometimes it's outside the building you're in, sometimes it's under the floor of the building you're in, and sometimes it's on another plane of existence. Slopes are bad, buildings with large parts you can't go into (schools, barracks) are bad, flat open areas are good if you're switching weapons, more of a chance for any "Dropped" items to end up at your feet instead of vanishing from the material plane. My best tip, If you have 2 primaries, never carry more than 3 mags for either of them, and always keep those in your main inventory, never your pack. And when you do switch, ALWAYS take a moment after the switch to check your inventory and see if anything's dropped to your feet. I've left several mags behind before I started doing this.

    Challenges Accepted

Find a way to jump a car in a bike/dirtbike/atv. I've always wanted to see this happen in game for some reason. IF you succeed, then you gotta kick it up a notch... jump over some ATVs and bikes with a bus. Can't hit the vehicles you're jumping of course, and landing without dying is advisable.
  17. If this isn't a rare spawn, WHY THE HELL ISN'T IT!? Seriously, we need more stuff like this. I've always wondered why we don't find convoys wrecked on the roads, crashed planes and abandoned tent cities in the woods.

What we can learn from a groundhog

Gotta commend you on this one Zed, situational awareness is what I've seen people forget/ignore more than anything else in this game and it gets them killed most of the time.

    Hopping Bandits WTF

How about we save this topic, keep it being from just another gripe-fest. I now declare this thread the Anti server hop thinktank. DCing is something we can't stop right now, but server hopping is something we can have a defense for. We need solutions. Player side tactics. Things to avoid. No more anecdotes, it's time for ideas, discussion. Problem: DCing and Server hopping to gain an advantageous position. The known: Your current location, their previous location. The unknowns: Their amount of awareness of you, their full armament(do they have grenades), their goal(escape or kill), how many teammates they have on the server The unknown unknowns: the conditions of the server they hop between, how many teammates they have across servers. Possible solutions: Think from their perspective, realize what they would deem an advantageous position, then get overwatch on that position for when they come back. Move to a position where they will have to server hop again to get the kill, make sure that area has only one good position for them to hop in from and camp that. Input people! "I want lists and solutions by the time I finish this juice box! Warning -- I am thirsty! And it is fruit punch! And it is delicious!"
