Is 3rd person really going away?
Kolchak (DayZ) replied to jjeez's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Jesus, would a mod please shut this thing down, it's giving the wrong impression. It's never been stated that it was going away. Dev team's never even mentioned it as an issue. -
Killed by zombies in a room beneath me. New range is screwed.
Kolchak (DayZ) replied to mrperson666's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is due to what i call "magical ESP range" You can be completely hidden, sitting still, and if a zombie passes next to you close enough, it will sense you with its magical ESP. This has been the bane of my existence since they upped the attack range. It's silly. If they're really blind enough not to notice you from 5 feet away, then as long as you sit still they should be able to stumble over you and not notice you unless their nose gets close enough to smell you. -
This is the best PVP game ever created
Kolchak (DayZ) replied to disastr's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This isn't a PVP game unless you choose for it to be, pvp is and always has been predictable and avoidable. Deathmatchers are single minded predators and follow the age old patterns of predatory behavior. They conserve energy (they're lazy) and prefer to let their prey do the work for them (camping high population areas). If they are damaged, or think they are going to die, they retreat (disconnect) and they follow game trails. Currently the game trails stretch from the mountains around and between Cherno and Elektro northwest to Stary, it then splits NW to the NW airfield, and to a lesser extent East to Berezino and the NE Airfield. If you don't make yourself a good/easy target (Don't stop, change directions every few seconds as you run across fields, don't loot the towns in the game trail, don't carry a high end weapon) typically they will ignore you and go for the next easy target that will come along. Real Bandits are a bit less predictable, but only because they have better imaginations and more patience. They will travel off game trails but usually it's for a tertiary objective, something they can complete quickly and then resume their normal patterns. PVPers will go where they think they can shoot people, if they don't think there are going to be targets in an area, they won't stop there for long. Those are the places you want to be if you don't want to PVP, and you can easily survive there indefinitely. -
Would staring at someone's ass for a good 5 minutes while you crawl into and through town count as a date?

Is there some kind of invinicibility hack, or WTF?
Kolchak (DayZ) replied to Maderas's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Has happened to me several times. Shot a guy 5 times in the head with an AKM, had it on single fire, good trigger cadence. Saw all 5 shots land, he aims and fires 1 time, I die. About a week later, I dump about half a mag from a AK74 Kobra into a guy with what looks like a winchester and he's still somehow able to move across a doorway turn a 180 and fire a single shot at me to kill me. -

Yup, devs WANT it to break your legs and make you bleed out if you try. Saw a post here a few days ago to that effect. -
dont like getting killed by players-> wrong game
Kolchak (DayZ) replied to Steven89's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't see why he would do this' date=' especially when he makes a topic like this: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=14753 And everyone who it's directed at ignores it. This very thread was made to tell people to "deal with it" so it's pretty obvious most people only listen when it sounds like something they want to hear. I honestly don't think he will ever make that distinction. Either because he wants the freedom to change the game as he sees fit, or because he really isn't sure what he wants the game to be. I mean, he's the person who put bandit skins into the game, so at some point visually marking bandits was a good idea to him. Eventually he changed his mind on the matter, but he made it clear when he did that he wants humanity to have a big role in the game, and that he's bringing it back. If he started defining things and putting out guidelines, he'd lose that freedom to change his mind at the drop of a hat and from the recent hotfixes, I think he likes that freedom. -

Anyone else disagree with the current morphine spawns?
Kolchak (DayZ) replied to dyno0919's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you only find it in hospitals, how did I find it in a residential building with a makarov mag and 2 chemlights? (Or it might have been a restaurant.) And you don't have to break the glass, there's 2 loot piles on the roof, and sometimes one around behind the back of the place, next to the ladder to the roof. -
People spawning anywhere destroys tactical play
Kolchak (DayZ) replied to betabob's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Placing you out of town is also a huge oversight. Imagine this, gunfire breaks out in the middle of Cherno, two groups only two blocks away from each other start exchanging fire. Group 1 suppresses and sends some members to flank, group 2 gets pinned down in a back yard. As group 1's flankers arrive, they see there's no one there. Cause Group 2 logged out and logged back in, they're now just outside of town and flanking group 1. Or more likely: Imagine a single scavenger, he carefully sneaks into town, loots the place, then doesn't want to risk going back out of town, he disconnects, hops servers and appears outside of town, bolting to the treeline before the zombies can spawn in. The unable to move for a few seconds idea is better, 30 seconds might be a bit extreme, especially if someone were to get disconnected as they were sneaking out of town. You'd come in stuck in the zombie hot zone, and 30 seconds is enough for 5 of the suckers to meander around enough to see/stumble over you. Maybe instead of being unable to move, you yawn, your vision is blurred and slowly clears over 30 seconds, And your aim wobbles slowly. The effects might only last about 15 seconds if you've only been offline a few minutes, but if you've been offline for hours, it might take a 45 seconds to regain all your faculties. -

Not going away, dev team has never made it a priority and they have much more pressing issues right now. -
Straightforward Banditry Solution
Kolchak (DayZ) replied to DocSavage's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've always said doing things in this game should make you better at said things. I support giving perks and detriments for both high and low humanity. High humanity players should get some kind of bonus for that, something that has to do with how you get higher humanity. Since you get it right now for bandaging and transfusing and such, I believe you should be able to do those things faster as your humanity rises. Demonstrates how your character has gotten practice from doing it so much. When you get a very high humanity you might be immune to panic when you have an ally around. However, being that they care for their fellow man, they should also have trepidation when aiming at or near someone they've been traveling with for very long. To show that they don't want to accidentally hit their friend, maybe a minor version of the shaking aim that happens when you need painkillers. Low Humanity comes from killing people, so killing people should get easier. (I know, it's pretty easy already, but still, any skill can be honed) I would say the lower your humanity, the less noise you make to other players when you move. You'd never get truly silent, but maybe half as loud. At extremely low humanity you could get the ability to track gun shots from other players, not on your map, but using the little white circles that sometimes show up around the outside of the screen. The circle wouldn't be small though, it would be very large, about 1/4 of your screen, but only show up on the edge of the screen, working kind of like a compass, pointing in the direction of the shot, and slowly fading away over the course of 5 minutes. The closer the shot is, the more apparent it is, the further, the more transparent. Of course it would work with sound so if they weren't close enough to hear you wouldn't get any kind of tracking. However, all the killing you've been doing takes a toll on your mind, you can't trust people, and you get paranoid. When within 10 feet of a person who has neutral/positive humanity, you start to get very nervous. If you stay near them for very long (2 minutes or so), you start to shake and eventually cough and whince, the more people there are the faster it happens, the less humanity you have, the worse the effects. And the only way to revert back to normal, is to either get away or aim at someone, down the sights. Aiming down the sights at someone reverts you much quicker as your character feels he has some control of the situation. -

Your opinion is no more valid than theirs, they have a right to say what they want. They're a player and Rocket wants to hear what they have to say: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=14753 -
Carebear Detection Alarm! *Alarm Sounds*
Kolchak (DayZ) replied to Shrapnel (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Stop telling people to shut up, you're part of the problem. You have this delusion that Rocket is one of you, he's not, and here's the proof: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=14753 He wants everyone to suggest things, he wants to hear from the PVE and the PVP crowd, he wants new ideas, and he wants the kind of elitism that this thread is born from to stop. You are not some kind of vanguard protecting "the true way," you are the hipster he addresses in the third paragraph. You're nothing more than an alpha tester, just like everyone else. Maybe you should make some of your own suggestions for the mod instead of complaining about the other people that are actually doing what Rocket wants them to do. -
People...WTF is wrong with you?
Kolchak (DayZ) replied to lukasforeals's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Or you can be smart and do it again. ESPECIALLY IF HE HAS A GOOD WEAPON WITH RARE AMMO Go back, circle him, let him burn ammo. Die, respawn, go back, do it again. You lose NOTHING when you die with a new character, you had a painkiller bandage and a flashlight. When you respawn again, you still have those things. Each time he fires at you, hes wasting rare ammo on a target with nothing, each bullet is ensuring more and more runs back to deer stands/the killing fields that are airstrips, so don't stop, make the moron burn all his mags if you can, sprint right up to him, trail some zombies with you, hell, grab a melee weapon if you can, he will fire, cause that's what deathmatchers do. -
You can check your gear and loot while prone, but you have to have a main weapon equipped, pistol or flashlight will not work. Same with slow crawling, for some reason with a secondary equipped, you cannot crawl slowly no matter what you do, switch to your main and you can go slow or fast.

Infected Detection behavior is not as intended
Kolchak (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Only if you're scraping your entire body against the pavement' date=' by holding your body off the ground with your knees and forearms you should make even less noise, but you'd have to move slowly. Fast crawling making noise sometimes makes sense, but slow crawling should never make noise, it's the slowest way to move. The only way to move slower is to sit still and that's not a solution, that's a way to die. Gameplay wise, this is no good. Visual only matters if they're looking in your direction, however sound matters due to proximity. Ask yourself "What would be the main reason I would need to crawl?" Answer: Cause they're coming right at me and if I don't crawl they will definitely see me. If they can hear you even when you're crawling slow, crawling won't help, they'll be too close as you go slow, sitting still won't help, cause of their magical ESP aggro range, you either accept the aggro and run away hoping to lose them, or you let them eat your face. Crawling slow should be your last option, but it should still be an option, right now, slow crawling isn't even helping half the time cause they can hear me even when I crawl slowly. -
Stop modeling DayZ after 28Days Later
Kolchak (DayZ) replied to Rough89's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Prone is seriously bugged right now. Being able to be seen in wide open/bright areas makes sense. The hearing is the problem, slow crawling should NEVER make noise, being prone and crawling slow is as slow as you can move in this game, the only other thing you can do is sit still and that's not a solution, that's a way to die. Not to mention you can't even slow crawl with a new character without a rifle. it just forces you to crawl fast no matter what. Makes grabbing a gun almost impossible unless you purposefully aggro zombies and lose them away from your loot spot. Plus, several times I've actually been harder to see crouched than prone, and that makes no sense at all. -

elektro/cherno intended to be manditory?
Kolchak (DayZ) replied to wayne (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Think they're implying if you're breaking your legs you're also doing it wrong. I only loot Electro or Cherno if I spawn there and if I am, I'm bolting through it like a bat out of hell, Don't bother with firestations or apartments, only check large houses, restaurants, back of hospital, and schools. If I'm in there for more than 10 mins I'm not being smart. If you're going into Cherno or Elektro with a starter character expecting to live, your expectations are too high. Only thing that offsets this is that you have nothing to lose. And I actually find towns like Kamenka and Kamyshovo are decent places to loot just cause the impatient masses just rush in and die hoping to respawn near Cherno or Elektro. I've repeatedly found chech packs in the outhouse on the north side of Kamenka, so I never leave there without at least checking that spot.
