Light RP, Community Growth, Private Server Discussion
The_Man replied to Katabasis's topic in General Discussion
I have an interesting in participating with a light RP community. The public hive is entirely too large to have any sort of consistent RP so I eventually will join a community to satisfy my need for RP! I'm working on the graphics and small details for my character right now. My character is likely going to be a university student that participated in a research program in the Arctic. He returned back to Chernarus on the beached ship that we all know is in Rify (North-Eastern Chernarus). I will likely stick to low-tier weapons and not gear up too much. If I do have a lot a gear it will likely be survival orientated and not for PVP. I would not adopt a Kill-On-Sight attitude. I will likely stick with my own people and be wary of strangers. I don't have much now in terms of background story but I just finished one of the graphics. I would be interested in forming a small group to expand on the backstory. I like your ideas though for a light RP server. Hope you keep us updated. -
I think when you make 20 million dollars over the course of a month then you can take more than 4 days off. I'm not a genius but I imagine making that much money while a game is in alpha will result in a kick ass game when it is finished. The community needs to be patient. I hope we hear from them soon. If not soon then I hope in a few months they will have a plan of what they plan to do to turn Alpha into whatever comes next. That's Beta right?

You merely adopted third person. I was born in it, molded by it. You see... Once you know third person...you know how to avoid getting hunted down like helpless rabbit. Well, have fun! Good luck!

He means that the servers right now are very laggy.

Temporary "fix" to lag issues? (Need your input/experience)
The_Man posted a topic in General Discussion
Everyone has been experiencing some lag in some form or another. I think I found a temporary little solution to fix a lag issue I was having. I am not sure if this type of lag is what you would call "rubberbanding". I would be running and then my character would start sliding (no animations) in a random direction. He would clip through walls and even fall from buildings (without getting hurt). I found that if you open your inventory (TAB) you will stop this temporarily. It has prevented me from sliding away too far from where I originally was. I am not sure if this was limited to the servers I was playing on. Please try this the next time your character decides to moonwalk into the middle of a city. Report back here and let me know. Thank you! -

Bump! Anyone try this out yet? -
Sorry, your eyes never and will never do that.

Russian vs. Czech Ingame Assets - quo vadis, DayZ?
The_Man replied to Element47's topic in General Discussion
I'm still confused. Where is the Czech influence other than in the level design? I thought the fictional country bordered Russia unlike the Czech Republic. Anyone who confuses the two is...well, a doofus. -
I dont understand why there is no AUTO RUN KEY!!!
The_Man replied to Bohannan (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
I have an easy solution for auto run. Place one of the legs on the W key. The weight from the tripod will keep it pressed down. Problem solved. You think I'm joking but I use this. -
Oh, you have experience with such a thing? I have none. I suppose you could be right but...do you have any sources?

Can't poor accuracy be chalked up to poorly maintained weapons, crappy ammo among other things?

Why they need to fix zoom (in conjuction with FOV)
The_Man replied to The_Man's topic in General Discussion
A little over the top. Locking the FOV wouldn't be taking away freedom. The freedom is still there but you would need to decide on your FOV before you join a server. Locking the FOV to a permanent standard would be taking away freedom. The point of this thread was to show that this type of advantage isn't good. If they want to keep it like this then when why not be able to bind keys that allow you to alter your FOV quickly without needing to enter the menu to change it? I'm all for freedom! -
Why they need to fix zoom (in conjuction with FOV)
The_Man replied to The_Man's topic in General Discussion
I don't want to take them away but I wonder if there is a fix for this. I like running around in a similar FOV because I get headaches otherwise. -
Why they need to fix zoom (in conjuction with FOV)
The_Man replied to The_Man's topic in General Discussion
Depends on your situation. The third person issue is hardly a problem when you see someone running across a field from 200 meters away. Either way, this thread is for this specific exploit. No one wants to talk about the zoom issue in the third person thread so let's not discuss third person in this thread. Deal? Also yes, I will update the photos right now. -
If you have a problem with what I post then please report me to a moderator. 3PP is integral. It is a fundamental part that designers implemented back in 2000 for Operation Flashpoint. They continued to offer it in ARMA, ARMA II and ARMA III. Why? The developers want you to experience the worlds they create by allowing both first and third person modes. Yes, by all definitions, it is integral. Rocket's choice to keep it in the game supports what I just said.
-
Oh, your eyes can zoom in and out like that? I wasn't aware that your eyes could change the size of a target from being a little dot to 1cm tall. Poor reason you gave. Does not change the fact that your character in game can change how their eye decides to view the world around them lmao. Yes, third person is faulty like that. Even if you couldn't fire your gun in third person it still would not fix the problem. Third person won't be removed simply because people enjoy seeing their character and prefer to see the world in that perspective. The developers will alter third person in a way that will prevent people seeing through walls and peeking around corners. You will be happy and I will be happy. The developer is not stupid to force part of the community to play like the rest of the community. This is how smart people approach problems. They fix them. They don't throw something integral to the engine away.
-
Removing something from the game as integral as 3PP or Zoom is a bad idea in general. They know this. Rocket said it himself that they want to fix it rather than remove it :)
-
My bad. I just use it as an counter argument because you'll find that some people that think 3rd person creates a huge advantage over players while the zoom doesn't. They are nitpicking and only want what they are comfortable with in the game. If we are truly going to balance the game in terms of what perspectives are fair in this game then zoom has a huge role too. It isn't directly relevant but it is absolutely a perspective issue in this game. I am not that far off topic.

Suggestion: Empty water bottle + duct tape = improvised silencer
The_Man replied to Nehefer's topic in General Discussion
Not a bad idea. You just wouldn't be using it for super accurate shots. It would be so useful in close quarter combat when dealing with zombies or players. Yeah it sucks not to be able to accurately shoot with it but then again do we really want to overpower an improvised weapon made from trash? Also, the bottle would only block your ironsights. Not your optics. -
Clearly 3rd person (as it is now) is flawed. You can see through walls and get this strange ability to peer over walls and get a type of birds eye view. I really enjoy third person because in this type of game...you need it. However, many people don't like the advantage it gives other players. I really don't mind if they nerf third person view as long as they don't remove it completely. I never use it to get an advantage over players. I like to use it for screenshots and when I run long distances. I get bad headaches in first person. The FOV slider helps a lot but it also makes the game look very, very weird. Ugh, I hate zoom. The fact that I can make my FOV very small then zoom in and have a huge visual advantage over another player is a joke. it turns my ironsight into a scope pretty much. Super human and super stupid. It gives a camper a huge advantage over a player that isn't using the same settings. A player running would never use the same settings as someone sniping in this context. If there was a way to quickly alter your FOV without opening the menu then I could see it being more balanced...but as it is now. No way.

Suggestion: Empty water bottle + duct tape = improvised silencer
The_Man replied to Nehefer's topic in General Discussion
See my thread here: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/159648-craft-makeshift-silencers-poll/?hl=silencer The idea has been suggested but I don't see the harm in making more threads. Shows that the community wants this idea to be really looked into more! I know they plan on putting improvised silencers into the game already but we can influence their attributes! -
Born in Quebec but live on the West Coast of the USA. Does that count?

The only solution for DayZ: Simulation.
The_Man replied to SalamanderAnder (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I suggest that we be allowed to roll around in mud to make our own camouflage I would also like to suggest that when hunting...people should have to "smoke" their clothes to remove the musk and body odor from the clothes. If they do not do this then important game such as buck or deer will be nearly impossible to get close enough to shoot at with a low caliber weapon. To smoke their clothes they would just need to make a fire then right click on their clothes in the inventory near the fire. An option called "smoke clothes" would appear. -
What is that? An AR-7? I hardly recognize it and I own one of them.

Apparently jeans from the opposite gender on this server make your legs invisible. Anyone else have a similar experience?
