Thief: one who takes what someone else has. Bandit: one who takes what someone else has through the threat or use of violence. Aka, a robber, a brigand. Murderer: one who kills people who have not attempted to kill him first.

We discussed this before. Anyway, it should be easy to sidestep in the standalone just by double-tapping D or A on the keypad. These are buttons that aren't being used, and if you can roll while prone, you should be able to hop to the side (or juke if you're running...that would be cool). P.S., I can guarantee you that several snipers will post here telling you that it's unfair and people should be forced to stand still while they shoot them in the head because sniping's too hard. Those people suck at sniping.

This game is extremely unfriendly to Deaf players.

Simple solutions: 1) Left 4 Dead/TF2 style chat menus. Basically, you push a key and your character says "Friendly!" or "Sniper!" or "Medic!" It's pretty simple and I believe you could activate it in L4D by holding one of two keys, moving the mouse in the direction of the phrase, and then releasing the key you were pressing. There was probably a number you could press from what I remember of TF2 (it's been almost a year since I've played, though). 2) Directional-based hit recognition. If you get hit from the front, a red mark shows up in the top of the screen. This would supplement the physical, tactile sensation that playing a game lacks and give you a realistic way to recognize what direction a bullet comes from (if you were shot in the butt, you'd know you were shot from behind, that's just common sense). Not as good as hearing a bullet, but better than nothing and it's completely realistic (one of those realistic things that some snipers hate in games because they suck at sniping). -
Once they lock down the edges of the map, vehicles will be impossible to hoard and gamers will get a serious reality check. But for now the map is 25 by 25 kilometers with 15 by 15 kilometers covered by actual 3D models.

GHILLIE GOOD! THERMAL BAD! Hah, yeah, you guys are hilarious. EDIT: No, but seriously, they both suck. I just find the whining about scissors appropriately beating paper to be amusing.

DEATH TO THE INFIDELS OF CHERNARUS
bazbake replied to Abu Jihad's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There is nothin good about this. -
It's not so much about receiver as it is about people not using the tag and search system. There are threads that are 10 pages long that discuss everything in your original post. And while you're here, you could edit this thread and put tags in it so we don't end up having this discussion with someone else.

First, those days are no different than the days today. People still play the same games for years and form communities around them and obsess over them. The illusion is that most people played those games for years. It has always been a very small, loyal, and focused group that has driven specific gaming communities while 99% of the population moved on to something else or waited for the sequel. Second, it took gaming communities to turn a timing glitch in Street Fighter into the combo system that drives the game today. Community input has a huge role in how games develop, what works, and what doesn't. I do agree that forum commentary should be taken with a grain of salt. Very loud people will repeatedly say the same thing over and over again (I do it, too). But forum POLLING should not be discounted. For instance, when 80% of your player base tells you they could live without tents and more than half tell you that tents are actually ruining the game, you should probably keep that in mind. If 70% of players own AS50's but the majority of players tell you that anti-materiel rifles suck and are ruining the game, you should probably keep that in mind. And it seems that Rocket is paying attention to the feedback as he says he wants to bolster the numbers on low-level weaponry and use them to drive the game. But completely ignoring feedback on an open Alpha makes zero sense, especially when you can get statistics on how people play and how people want to play through the use of on-site polling. If you really wanted to be surprised about how the game turned out, you wouldn't go into the suggestions forum on the official website of the alpha of the game you want to be surprised by.

With subsequent redundant threads you get less and less input as people lose interest in repeating themselves or just assume you're posting what the last two or three people posted. Also, it doesn't bode well that you didn't put any tags in your title so that the next person who plays receiver will completely miss your post as well.

Re-thinking melee weapons for the standalone.
bazbake replied to colekern's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Contrary to popular belief, there aren't many weapons that will kill you instantly. See: The Miami Incident. A knife to the heart is at least a knife to the heart. -
Seriously, there is now officially a Receiver post every three days. Was there a sale or something? But for real, use the search function. I know for a FACT that receiver is in the titles of several of these posts.

This new camping tactic that might screw everyone over.

I hear Navy Seals make sure to take a free-floating third-person camera with them as well. Just in case, as you say, it's impossible for them to see while they're hiding in the water. -
When you make console versions, will that include WiiU
bazbake replied to NeoTechni's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This might be true in a game that actually does that, but you're confusing Arma II with ACE, which is a very complex, heavily-scripted mod. Current consoles run massive, open-world, physics-intensive environments with complex, multilinear pathfinding like Just Cause 2, Battlefield 3, Assassin's Creed, and the Grand Theft Auto series. Just because many PCs can peak out at complex calculations high above current-gen console processing does not mean that Arma II is flexing those muscles. Because it's not. Arma II's limitations are that there are two buttons too few on your standard gamepad, not that it is a number-crunching beast. Battlefield 3's physics are far more complicated than Arma II's and it runs on consoles. -
The epi-pen is a shot of adrenaline. Epinephrine/adrenaline is also used when your heart stops. It causes vasoconstriction and ventricular tachycardia. If you give someone with cardiac arrest a much faster heart rate then you're probably going in the right direction. -------------------- So that people don't run around doing stupid things like injecting themselves with adrenaline, I should remind them that L4D is bullshitting them and they're running purely on RULE OF COOL. If your heart has already stopped, such as in the case of your blood dropping to circulatory shock levels (dying from blood loss), having a sudden heart rate increase could be a good idea. But if your heart is still beating, then that's stupid and if anything injecting yourself with an epi-pen should knock you unconscious and/or kill you. Which would actually be hilarious, which is why I encourage Rocket coding this into the game. If you really wanted a stimulant, then thebirdolux is right and a big dose of ephedrine might be what you're looking for, since it's reduced in order to produce meth/speed.

bazbake replied to NeoTechni's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Depends. The PS3 runs Mag, a 64/64 player online game. The biggest problem with running large multiplayer maps for consoles is network stability since, for the most part, they have to use proprietary networks that are probably running at capacity. Graphically, though, a game with as little meat on its bones as Arma II would run pretty easily on a console since most of the power I've noticed goes into specific Post-Processing effects. -
Beards For Standalone Seasoned Veterans?

Those hairy lumberjacks aren't really girls. They just put on women's clothing and hang around in bars...just like their dear papas. -
It would if it's the thermal radiation that kills you.
-
This is pretty cool. I think it would work best to keep players from leaving the main game and building tent cities in the debug woods.
-
Simple way to do this: Private server. Password. No server restarts. The twist is, anyone else who ever joined the server would basically be screwed by metagamers who realize that hoarding loot would basically make them immortal.

ARMA2 Weapons that offer no extra tactical advantage.

My auto-response to "why not" from now on is going to be "This is a zombie apocalypse where the zombies are supposed to be a threat and survival is supposed to be difficult." -
If we're getting rid of helicopter crashes, we might as well get rid of military loot at army bases, too. The idea that no one is flying helicopters supervising Chernarus but military bases are still full of machine guns and anti-material rifles is...amusing.

There should be no high grade weapons in standalone

An antibiotic will not work on a virus ...

Sounds good. But a balanced diet is more effective than a regimen of supplements, so tying it to hunger would probably be more efficient. Hungrier you get, the sicker you get. -

bazbake replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
When encumbrance is reinstituted in the game and a more realistic weight balance of 1 magazine/10 rounds of M107 ammo = 2 magazines/60 rounds of AKM ammo = 4 magazines/120 rounds of NATO ammo. And when a more realistic weight balance of 2 assault rifles + 2 shotguns + a NATO sniper rifle = 1 M107, then I think that would at least be a step in the right direction. Same for SAWs. If it was a choice between 3 shotguns and 100 shotgun shells or 1 SAW and 200 rounds of ammo, you would probably see fewer people carrying around LMGs. -
Please use the Arma 3 Engine for the Standalone

If you want realistic animations and fatigue, you should probably play Battlefield 3. ...I can't believe I just wrote that...
