Shot some bandit, lost 7 K humanity.

There's no transitive property for murder. -
Bandit skins...working perfectly.

So wait. In a game where tents and vehicle storage already allow new players to gear up to highest level in a matter of minutes and where people die without consequence over and over and over again giving the middle finger to permadeath, you're suggesting cities full of extra storage that are easily accessible to players...? This won't have any unintended consequences.

Are the leaderboards ever going to go up?

If all you list is kills, all they'll do is kill.... -
Players don't need starting weapons. They just need their early weapons buffed so that they don't suck ass. There's no reason for the Makarov to take two clips to kill another player. That just makes newbs sitting ducks.

Am I the only one who doesn't like to use or have snipers in Dayz?
bazbake replied to Brutal-Hunter's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So you're saying there might be a sniper out there in the world with his 37,000 to 175,000 damage per hit, 1.5km effective range, incredibly accurate weapon that would go on a forum and say, "This guy shot me six times with his assault rifle before I could shoot him once. Having a weapon that fires three times farther and does 10 to 50 times as much damage per magazine isn't good enough -- nerf him more please!" No, because we'd laugh at him and then his mom would log onto the forum to inform us that she's taking a trip to pants him personally. And then she'd put that on Youtube for our amusement. Your analogy is bad and you should feel bad. @xFortune Weapons spawn rates are fine. It's more that there's no cost to having the weapons and they stay in the cycle indefinitely giving new players easy access. Why does a rocket launcher weigh half as much as an AS50 or a M107 but the rocket launcher costs a backpack slot and they don't? Why is the M107 three times as big as a SVD but they both take up the same amount of backpack space and both go in your primary weapon slot. The game needs more realistic encumbrance and limits on storage so some of those weapons eventually disappear. -

"If you don't get the joke...it's probably on you." -
This is so cool. There's no way to get rid of extra loot in the game permanently and if you want to disable a rival bandit clan there's no way to do so since dumping out their loot leaves it right there waiting for them to come back and get it. We seriously need a way to destroy tents and campfires in the menu.

Am I the only one who doesn't like to use or have snipers in Dayz?
bazbake replied to Brutal-Hunter's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I usually play sniper in PVP, but first-shotting PVP in DayZ usually means you're an asshole. I experimented with my first M107 and ditched it for an AKM because 1) damage is WTF, 2) the scope is two to three times stronger than binoculars. That's right, a one-shot weapon was given a scope stronger than any zoom a non-sniper has access to. It's the heavy side of the seesaw. I don't hate people who snipe, but I do wonder why 30 pound anti-materiel rifles are in the primary slot instead of the backpack slot. -
Hoarder Instinct- How bad do you have it?

Needs more options. Like: I only carry what fits in my backpack and cry tears of joy whenever I find an Alice Pack. -

If you spend more time looking at GameFAQs than the instruction manual, you might be a metagamer. -
You're rewarded for survival with an item that is more common than a crowbar and is more useful the less likely you are to survive? You said it -- you hate permadeath, so you need tents. How is admitting that you can't handle permadeath a sign that you are on a higher level? The real problem is that this attitude has created aboth a safety net and booster seat for the entire game.

People who play 3rd person

Hey. I am not pretentious. -
Day Z should be a constant battle for the resources you need, not a constant battle for something to do.
bazbake replied to Silent331's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
@Ipurgepeople You're playing the way most people would play if we didn't have tents and vehicle storage -- limited supplies, making hard choices, teaming up for division of labor and equipment. But most people don't play that way. Most people have tents full of extra equipment. They don't make difficult choices between carrying the gun or the blood pack. And when they die, all of that extra loot they never had to abandon and just hid away is waiting for them at the end of a fifteen minute run. So while you are experiencing stress and danger all of the time, most of the server isn't playing like you. They're sitting on mountains of easily-acquirable food and drink because they never once had to make a hard decision between a gun or a can of beans. -
Coca-Cola and Pepsi have caffeine, which gives you more energy in real life and none in the game....
-
Because you suffer no consequences for dying thanks to tents. You've made that perfectly clear. Still the biggest problem with tents. Thanks for eloquently and honestly explaining why tents need to go for this game to get serious again from a first-hand personal perspective.

That whole "single silenced shot + broken bone + instant death" thing is evidence of a pretty notorious insta-kill hack. If you had checked your health and seen that you didn't experience any blood loss (one-hit killers like AS50's and M107's will cause MASSIVE blood loss), then you would have known for sure. -
Axed a guy for his machine gun in elektro, Cant carry it and backpack, Is the machine gun hacked in?
bazbake replied to manowar's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A M249 SAW weighs 22 pounds. It really should replace your backpack slot. Compare, for example, the M136 rocket launcher which weighs an incredibly massive 14 pounds and replaces your backpack. Encumbrance isn't based around the size of things in the Arma 2 engine, it's based around how rare the ammo is. Also, video gamesTM. -
Loot spawns should be coordinated with hive
bazbake replied to CongressmanAlexShrub's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
There are several problems It's too easy to farm high-end gear. Once you have high-end gear it never leaves the server. The safest place to store high-end gear is far away from danger...which makes new players more likely to find it. Solution 1: Have gear hive-based so that it checks how much gear has already spawned capping the overall amount of high-end gear. Pro: Less high-end gear spawns. Con: High-end gear disappears except for loot farmers no matter what server you play on. Solution 2: Remove tents and vehicle storage so that players can only have access to high-end gear that they're carrying. Pro: Impossible for more high-end gear to exist than there are players on the hive. Con: Players will only look for high-end loot until they die. Solution 3: Put loot on a 2-3 hour timer. Pro: Slower increase in high-end loot than currently in place. Con: High-end gear will still gradually increase and never go away. -
Welcome to DayZ. We loot so you don't have to.

M1911 is the most dangerous single-shot handgun in the game. Which is to say it's a really shitty weapon. Headshots are good against zombies, not so good against other players. Any of the automatic sidearms are better (larger magazines, faster rate of fire, same accuracy) in performance with less ammo. M9SD is silenced but the ammo is kind of rare. Makarov gives you slightly less damage/magazine but it gives you one extra headshot and the ammo is plentiful. Ammo is common for the M1911, but it now takes 4 times as many shots to kill players. Which means the ammo has effectively been cut by 75%. So the M1911 sits somewhere in the middle of usefulness when it comes to sidearms. The automatics can actually do damage comparable to the double-barrel shotgun in dps but ammo for the double barrel is as plentiful as ammo for the M1911. Considering it takes about 4 times as many rounds to kill with the M1911 as it does to kill with the nerfed double barrel, you're looking at a gun whose ammo, range, and damage per magazine is effectively lower than that of the lowest level long arm.

"Carebear": translation, anything that makes the game harder for snipers. Directional hit markers are realistic. You really dont get what we are talking about! Sure i understand what you mean but. If i run through the Forest and Suddenly i hear a shoot! I can instantly say what Weapon it was, which Direktion and how far away was that shot! Adding things like this will detract my Realism and understanding from a Simulation/Survival shooter. "Adding more realism to the game detracts from my realism because my realism only includes things that make sniping easier." /facepalm Can we stop confusing "stuff that makes my sniping easier" and "stuff I really, really like" with "realism?" Realism would be windage and forcing you to carry a .50 caliber rifle in your backpack slot because it weighs as much as three other sniper rifles. Realism has nothing to do with anything you've argued against so far.

If you don't have a tent, you're afraid of dying. If you have a tent, you're not afraid of dying and you spend your time guarding your tent and stockpiling it with loot. That...just about sums up the problem with tents.
