  1. @Dude "I have to disagree partially. I think the problems come from players not caring at all whether the other guy dies or not. Partners in DayZ are of no value, unless they are your RL/forum/clan friends." And THAT derives from the fact that people don't care whether they survive. There are repercussions to killing another human being irl- whether prison, or death. In DayZ, there's an exponential increase in the chances that you will be killed if you kill another player with no forethought- and people simply don't care, because they can just respawn. You don't need some arbitrary system to force players to do what's right- because that's actually wrong. Morally, if it were real life, and authentically, in this case. May as well code in a karma system or something silly. No- this problem should be solved at the root so as to best preserve gameplay.
  2. Man, I saw the 'Make DayZ a Living Hell' reference and got hopeful, but NPC's are never the right decision in this. This is meant to be an authentic survival game. NPC's are the complete opposite direction. Instead of big brother stepping in and giving us all a pat on the head, saying "Thanks for trying" and giving us safezones and other crap, you should be suggesting ways to guide real players unobtrusively. A way to attach people to their characters and make them care about themselves. All the problems in the game right now derive from the fact that players don't care about whether they live or die as much as they would in real life. THIS is a problem with the game, and it shouldn't be solved by just adding random NPC's to give you hugs and flowers.

    Minigames for actions

Hrrmm yea true, but we do need some way to prevent the knee-jerk reaction that people will have when reading 'minigames in dayz' xD Uuumm.. Quicktests?

I actually really like this, but I think calling them minigames might draw some flamers, tbh. =P

Give Current Dayz Players Free Game Keys On Release

I would, if the first game was an incomplete game that was missing many of the features that were discussed, and the sequel was announced a couple months later.

Look, the fact is that you can't call people 'entitled' for having less money than you and wishing they could have had some way to plan ahead. Development of the mod is going to "continue", but since, like you said, this is a business...why would they support the stubborn people that aren't paying them? Good press? Then why not give testers a discount? For the money? You're talking out of two sides of your mouth just like I am. The fact is that we don't know what they're going to do, and we both have different opinions of what they ARE going to do. You expect 10$ at alpha, but the minecraft alpha was approximately 17 dollars, which isn't really that bad but it's on the border of "do I want to afford the required reading for next semester, or buy a new game?" When I bought DayZ, standalone wasn't even something that was mentioned, let alone on the horizon a few months away. It's silly, and I don't expect any sort of monetary help at this point, but I do feel betrayed. That's all there is to it.

Cool story, and I'm glad you hate reading as much as you love trying to be angry at people that don't deserve it. Should I bother restating the same arguments repeatedly? Maybe I'll choose one of the many already stated. 1) We're well aware they have no legal obligation to do anything. Thanks for playing, though. 2) Rocket is now very much in cahoots with Bohemia, and is on their payroll. Welcome to indirect transfer of money- it isn't that complicated. 3) Rocket is now a celebrity. He's set for life. 4) Saying someone is "Entitled" is the hip way of saying "umad bro?" these days. I don't think you actually know what it means. 5) Testing an early version of a game such as this is simultaneously a privilege and an aid. You need testers to develop a game. Do you think Rocket would have gotten this far if I had decided to buy "Arma 2"? No. That would never have happened.

I never said out-dated, I said obsolete. Arma 2 was obsolete FOR ME the day I bought it, and it has been since. It isn't what I want in a game- period.

Since apparently the rocket-fanboys (no offense meant here, just a tag) don't even want to consider a discount for testers that helped make the game it is today, which is okay I guess, I'm just going to sit here and lament over the fact that I will soon own "two" obsolete games; Pre-DayZ and Arma 2. Hooray. =P Yes I'm salty! I'm not rich!
  11. I specifically designed these suggestions off of what make the game easy for me. Why would I even bother using a gun if I'm not interested in PvP? They're easier to miss with, have limited ammunition, and make a ton of noise, so I just use an axe. When I die: why would I even bother running back to my tent in the far, far northern wilderness? It's obsolete. I can completely regear in a much faster period of time by just running through cities and towns. Don't make assumptions- it isn't healthy for a testing environment, considering that training wheels makes a game BORING. It sounds more like you're perhaps a bit upset at getting killed by pvp'ers and snipers that abuse the good mechanics of the game- understandably- but getting rid of them isn't the solution.
  12. Why would I want to? In an authentic survivalistic apocalypse, what reason would I have to seek out and specifically attract the possibility of death for no gain? This really seems like a similar answer along the lines of "Well just get a sniper and go camp cherno, it's fun I guess". Edit: Also, I feel like a jerk pointing this out, but it seems as if you either didn't read my main post, or skimmed it. The first post explains what I mean when I say I've beaten it, and it indicates that I'm not interested in unnecessary PvP just for fun.
  13. I'm glad it is for you, I actually really am- I just derive no amusement from it. There is nothing left to do, and this would be the same with or without tents, vehicles, or snipers. I don't even use a sniper. I play DayZ for the challenge of surviving in a hostile environment- and that challenge has quickly dissolved, leaving me with an empty game. When I play DayZ now, I limit myself on purpose to try and find amusement, such as not using guns, or only using guns, or not using a backpack... But that eventually gets easy, too. In the end, I hope DayZ is improved as much as it can be. And don't get me started on the standalone. *eyeroll*
  14. "DayZ is just a game" I see this a lot, and that's you're opinion, but Rocket disagrees. He has said so repeatedly.
  15. I don't think it matters what most of the people think they want. Rocket gave us DayZ, and only then did we decide we wanted it. Imo, "Most" of the people are lying to themselves. Make the game harder. Make it harsher. Make it hell, and you won't lose anything good, and gain all of it.
  16. There are better ways to fix the problems you bring up without punishing the authenticity of the game, and people who actually want to try and survive.

@LVG I don't think anyone here wants something for nothing, we just have different opinions of what we paid for. For those of us that purchased "Arma 2" without any word of the standalone, we had no reason to think there would be a shift in development. And there will, regardless of what the official topic states. There's no way the development focus will PRIMARILY be the DayZ mod when Standalone is out. There's just no way. Therefore, Standalone changes our investment. Some of us just don't have the money to throw around like that- if I do buy a zombie MMO, it'll be DayZ... but if "DayZ 3" as you put it is going to be coming out several months after the purchase too, you have to understand that I'm just not a happy camper.

I understand now. In order for posts to be acknowledged, they must be completely unreasonable and ignorant. I'll try again. GIEV PARTIAL REFUNDS FOR ARMA 2, TAT WAY YOU KEEP FANS (Yes, I am a bit "Mad" bro. I'm not a huge fan of giving my genuine thoughts and then being flat out ignored. Criticized, I can accept. Proved wrong, too. Being ignored is just offensive.)

I can never tell if people ignore these kinds of posts on purpose, or if they just get buried and ignored because they honestly don't notice them.

If they're going to be using the Minecraft model, it could be anywhere from 15-20 dollars. It depends if they consider the initial release of 'standalone' to still be alpha or not.

I understand that the way the OP phrased this is, in general, complete asshattery, and I also understand that the vast majority of the forumgoers are Arma fans (their community lends itself to communicating actively, hence all the mods and stuff) but I stand in a unique position, here. Before standalone was ever even mentioned, I spent about two weeks convincing a variety of my friends to purchase DayZ (we frequently joke around that "arma 2 isn't a game, it's an engine" but I do understand that some people like it, I guess?) and in the end, standalone was announced. Putting aside my initial excitement, me and my friends are college students. That taxes heavily on an individual spendable income. I expected the initial purchase to last, at least, a couple years. I didn't buy a Madden game, after all. This evidently isn't the case, and we don't have our parents money to throw around willy nilly. I know, legally they aren't required to do anything, but it still feels like a betrayal. Or, to be a bit more blunt, a kick in the nuts. Getting it for free WOULD be absurd. However, a 'trade-in' refund for Arma 2 would not be so ridiculous. =\ The people that enjoy Arma 2 still can, and the people that don't can upgrade their copy of DayZ for a smaller cost.
  23. I don't see why not.

    Roaming zombie "hoards"

A 'hoard' is a large collection of items. A 'horde' is a large group of people or creatures. Besides that, I think everyone wants more zeds, whether they're running or walking, but it's a matter of server load.
  25. The zombies in this game are still living creatures and, as such, are capable of basic pattern recognition. If the bell rings every day, at the same times, with the same frequency, it becomes about as useful to the zombies as the ocean wind, which is also quite loud. After realizing that running to the church for the same noise repeatedly yields no hunting results, they would begin ignoring it. Since DayZ takes place presumably at least a few years after the infection began, they would have had plenty of time to adapt.
