    Heli Crash FAQ

A member of my group tried parachuting out of the huey once, he died instantly. I really wouldn't recommend anyone do it unless it is absolutely neccessary.

Does the infinite ammo glitch still work?

There are still some ways to circumvent the ammo saving, however I will not post these :)

    Heli crash site loot....

Rangefinders only spawn in barracks. But the easiest way to gear up is just to find some tents.

    Epic Non Hive Banditry

"Ural (yellow)" Wait what? I thought the Ural was supposed to be blue with a beige tarp roof.
  5. Aiming for the head of a moving target at range is ambitious to say the least. If they are moving, I take the first shoot at their legs, incapacitating them and making them a sitting duck for the killshot. Sure, this risks them alt-f4ing, but this will be fixed at some point, so it is not really an excuse. Besides, if they alt-f4, you have won the engagement. You also don't need to take a shot the instant you see someone. Follow them a bit, try to figure out where they are going, what they are doing. If they stop to check the map, loot or w/e, take them out. I believe a big part of sniping is knowing when to shoot and when not to. First you cite realism, then CSS? Make up your mind. I never played much CSS, but I know a few people who played a lot of 1.6 and they all refer to CSS as "babby cs". The .50 cals obviously don't just make you a god tier sniper, but they do make it considerably EASIER and they offer no real drawbacks compared to the other rifles. If the fact that they weigh atleast twice as much as the other sniper rifles somehow translated to a disadvantage ingame, I wouldn't really mind having them. But as it is now, there is absolutely NO REASON not to pick up an M107/AS50 for daytime operations, excluding a wish to not take the "easy" route. For the record, I've been sniped ONCE in this game, and to this day I am not really sure about the circumstances. So I know how to counter them. I also know how to use them. This still doesn't change the fact that the M107/AS50 are a crutch allowing easymode sniping. Much like CSS is easymode CS :)

    Lets Discuss - Way-Points.

I use them, not proud of it. It's not that I can't navigate without them, I am actually quite good at that sort of thing. However, using the waypoints is way more convenient and it's less time consuming. So I guess it's more about efficiency. I think that they should be removed altogether though, or only usable in conjuction with the GPS. And even so, they should not appear on your HUD.
  7. I'm split on this topic. The way the .50 cals behave right now, I'd say remove them as they don't really add much if you forget about alt-f4 for a moment. The AS50 is the easiest sniper rifle by far to use; it's silly how simple it is making long range kills with an AS50 and a rangefinder. I believe that right now, the .50s are good against helis, which is a legitimate reason to have them in the game. However, they are very easily used against soft targets, and they present little to no challenge to the operator which in my opinion doesn't sit quite right. There are some really good suggestions in this thread to make the .50 cals slightly more "balanced" (yes, I know this doesn't sit well with some of you.), like having fatigue, making them wildly inaccurate when fired crouch/standing without support. Perhaps you could make it so that you have to deploy them prone or on objects to be able to accurately engage targets at long ranges. Another thing I thought about was introducing a non match grade ammunition for them that is more common but would come with the drawback of less accurate fire. The match grade ammunition would obviously be very rare. At this point in the mod, there really is no reason not to select a .50 cal discounting nighttime operation. Personally, I prefer the 7.62s because a kill with them is much more rewarding. Off topic story: Got a really clean kill yesterday with the DMR. Was on a moving target, pretty close range though, I think about 200m. First shot shattered his kneecaps, and then you sink the killshot when he is down. Feels a lot more rewarding to me than getting a 1hk on some random guy 1 km away no matter where you hit.

Snipers poll, what is your main gun?

Using the DMR currently for it's versatility. May start using the M24 in my backpack at some point, but right now I am sticking with the DMR.

    The SVD

I have a theory that the SVD rangefinder is slightly off. I think that to get the correct range in dayz you take the measured range and subtract 100m to get the correct range. It's just a theory though, and it needs testing. Also, in the shooting range mission by murcielago, I found the SVD to be accurate to about 1100m.

The best sniper rifle in the game?

If it weren't for all the combatlogging, I'd probably go with the SVD. But, until it's "fixed" I'll stick with the AS50.

    SVD Camo

I havn't tested the DMR that much so I don't know just how accurate it is. I did however test the SVD quite extensively and found it was dead accurate up to 1100m or so.

    What is the point

There is no point. That is the beauty of this mod.

DO NOT GO TO AIRFEILD UNPREPARED!

I've been there quite a few times, and most of the times it is quiet. I did not so long ago get shot at by an M107 after looting the northern barracks. Luckily me and my 2 mates were able to sprint to safety without any casualties.
