What happens if I find a hacked gun, or vehicle?
[email protected] replied to BobTheBuilders's topic in New Player Discussion
Well there you go :P -
So what is being done about teleporters?
[email protected] replied to Laugher's topic in New Player Discussion
The problem is that ARMA II is way too easy to hack. It's a military simulator, therefore the people who were using it were trying to recreate certain scenarios. This means that the server version completely trusts what the client tells it, no questions asked. If you delete a building file, the server believe it isn't there. If you add more files filled with weapons etc, the server believe it is there. It's not so much DayZ's fault, rather just a flaw in the engine its running on. Not much Rocket can really do about it until we go standalone, or an Arma 3 conversion with a hopefully much more secure engine. -
Not really helping to bring in new players guys??
[email protected] replied to biddy381's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
They should put a marker on new players who have just started the game (not just respawned) to let others know they are brand new to the game. This will give players the right information to say "hey, this guy is new and has no idea what he's doing, I'm not going to shoot him." rather than always having that question in your mind, he could just be a freshly spawned bandit waiting to get a gun so he can kill everything in sight. -
Hacking is ruining this game.

Are US servers riddled with hackers? Seems most complaints come from US servers, while I've only ran into one hacker/exploiter in my entire playtime on EU servers. Are there a lot of places close to the NA region ripe with hackers? Or are people jumping regions? -

I've seen people have 2 helicopters legitly, but you're right. Better safe than sorry, but Rocket isn't the kind of guy to nedlessly ban people, but there are some who take advantage of hacked weapons knowingly, even after being warned by admins on the server. That's what leads to bans, not a new player picking up a hacked weapon without realizing. -
Seriously this is getting stupid.. Three hours and not a single weapon?

What happens if I find a hacked gun, or vehicle?
[email protected] replied to BobTheBuilders's topic in New Player Discussion
I have seen people banned on the Darwin List (global banned user list) because they picked up a weapon from a hackers body. They appealed because they didn't know, but Rocket has said if you take a hacked item, and you know it's hacked, you will be banned. Taking and using hacked weapons is against the rules, if you find an item with no description, or that you know doesn't belong in the game DON'T TOUCH IT. Ignorance only works for so long :P oh @AttackBadger hackers spawn weapons that are in Arma 2 but not DayZ, such as Rocket Launchers etc. -
Don't head back south for "hardcore PvP", stay up north or gather a bunch of supplies and go live in the wildnerness away from all those who wish to steal your precious'

Says the guy who freaked out over an unarmed player sneaking up on him just the other day. What does the blood look like in games in Germany? -
Hive connected passworded server?
[email protected] replied to sostronk's topic in New Player Discussion
Yeah it's like free pickings on all the loot you want in your own private world. While you're learning just join empty servers, keep an eye on how many players are online while playing. I find generally anything up to 10 people and you are going to have a hard time running in to players most of the time. http://www.mmogames....beginners-guide Greetings new survivors! I've been playing DayZ for about three weeks now and figured I would take a shot at writing a beginner's guide for new players, as I know there are a bunch out there still confused. If you guys like this guide, in future there will be a guide to banditry, survivor's guide, and video versions of each. Feel free to leave feedback, and for those veterans please let me know if anything could be wrong, or any other advice you think should be included. If you're interested, check it out.

[MMOGames.com] The Ultimate Beginner's Guide
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
The sentence after that, 'If you are in an open area, immediately make your way to cover.' was meant to imply that people should make their way to cover then prone and hide :P thanks! I will re-word it. -
Look for somewhere with military tents or deer stands (little wooden outposts). If you aggro zombies, just stand up and sprint, run through a building to lose them and then move on. If you find a multi-story building you can generally run upstairs and loot before they can reach you. Just hope there's a weapon spawn :P if you are out of luck, just look for a hatchet in industrial areas, then make your way elsewhere to find something better. Or you can read this. http://www.mmogames.com/gamenews/5442/the-ultimate-dayz-beginners-guide

The guide actually talks about how to find a server, and just mentions that later on when you find a server you like you can call it home. This then is touched on towards the end of the guide, when I talk about setting up a camp. Edit: I see the part which would make you think I was pressuring people to do it first, I guess it was awkwardly worded. -

The guide was written completely from my experiences with my clan and what I have learned. None of it is copied from other guides, and I am sure there are many other great guides that have been out for a while, this is just mine :) Anything else you recommend I add, or could you elaborate on what is "way off" so I can amend it? -

This mod isn't intended to be easy, it's intended to be unforgiving, brutal, and cruel. Paranoia and fear are a large selling point, add in safe zones and you completely ruin that fear and paranoia. At the end of the day, if you don't like sandbox style mods, if you don't like "difficult" games, don't play them.

UK117 BAN APPEAL/ADMIN ABUSE
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I joined UK117 the other night when it was filling up and an admin kicked me to make room for one of their mates :( They don't seem to realize admin doesn't mean you are free to do whatever you want, you are merely providing hosting for the mod and maintain it. You can't use your powers to your advantage and you aren't allowed to kick players to make room for friends. l2admin. -
Yeah, bandits completely outnumber survivors *rolls eyes* July 30th, 2012. Alive Characters: 735,234 Bandits Alive: 125,402

Do you believe in being trusting of other players?
[email protected] replied to newb (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
A lot of players will die once or twice to a KoS player and then take on board the policy themselves, they fail to remember or try to experience those situations which work out the other way. I've had many bad encounters, and also many good ones which ended up in much more loot than killing that player could have provided. Of course, now I am in a clan and we only trust ourselves, they simply shoot on sight, but I sometimes make exceptions. Really all you need to do is find a survivor clan and join up with them, it will change your game experience dramatically. -
