In the "real world" fog dampens the propagation of sound, especially higher pitched sounds.

Cooking + Combining Food, Recipes
dogsbd replied to DeathComesSilently's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Really????? All the things to do in Chernarus and you're worried about cooking varieties of SIMULATED food to SIMULATE eating? I guess everyone get's his jollies in his own way. -
Also a perfect example of the ridiculous injury modelling in DayZ, you were injured in the landing and bleed down from about 10k to about 6k!!
-
no you'll get banned regardless. If that is the case it is the stupidest thing I've heard recently.

So if I am in a city sneaking around looking for loot and my wife wants me to go out for supper with her or my child falls and scraps its knee or my dog craps on the carpet or the washing machine starts to overflow or any other of a thousand REAL LIFE things takes place that requires me to forget about a GAME immeadiatly I am just screwed huh? Why do people put so much energy into worring about someone DC'ing before they get a chance to kill them?

Why is this mod so popular among russians?
dogsbd replied to TonyStarks's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think it is because they like shooting the Zeds that look like Putin. -
Not necessarily. I've lived for 8 days and never more than a few hundred meters from shore.

Hardcore fanboys Vs General gamers
dogsbd replied to Genki Dama's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Nice selective edit of my post. No one said anything about "compromising gameplay elements". The compromise was to have BOTH. Have hardcore servers AND easier servers. Make them exclusive if you like, you play on one or the other but you can't switch from easy to hard or hard to easy until you start a new character. There are ways to do this other than the attitude of "it must be MY way or NO way". -
As I have stead before, if you're going to use the excuse "well Zombies aren't real either" that opens the door to add aliens, fairies, unicorns, jetpacks, trolls, vampires or any other ridiculous thing someone comes up with.

As an American I would like the ability to play on a map that looks more like home. I know an entirely new map would be a lot of work, therefore I would like to suggest an "American-ized" version of Chernarus. Things to do to make Chernarus look more like the USA: Of course change the names of the cities and put up new road signs to match. Chernogorsk could become Chicago, Electro could be Detroit and so forth. There would need to be more stores, lots more. No matter where you were on the map you should be no more than a one hour leisurely walk to a Wal-Mart. And each Wal-Mart would contain unimaginable amounts of every type of loot you could think of. There should be many more gas stations. At least one per city block. Gas stations should have lots of junk food and soft drinks. And more banks, Cherno/Chicago should have at least 5. Banks wouldn't have any useful loot however, just money and since the Zed-pocalypse money isn't very useful any longer. Also more restaurants, especially fast food restaurants. Ten should be about enough for Cherno/Chicago. Of course restaurants would have lots of food. And most importantly, gun shops. Every town must have at least one. Cherno/Chicago would need 2. Guns and ammo would be plentiful at the gun stores. Also pawn shops, which would of course have more guns, ammo and all sorts of useful items like hunting knives, maps, compasses, GPS etc. Everything Wal-Mart has just on a smaller scale. And there would absolutely need to be car dealerships. Ten seems to be a good number for the entire map of "Chernamerica". That would allow for a good mix of SUV's, muscle cars, pickup trucks etc. The houses and barns etc. would also need to be American-ized so most of the homes would have at least one gun and a few boxes of ammo. about 10% of the homes would have a dozen or more guns and hundreds of rounds of ammo. There should also be vehicles at some of the homes, a typical mixture of cars, trucks, motorcycles, ATV's and boats and motor homes. I think that should about do it. Playing on the above described map would be just like home for me and for many other Americans I am sure. :D :D :D

Hardcore fanboys Vs General gamers
dogsbd replied to Genki Dama's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Being a hardcore games does not mean it has to be ridiculously hard, stupidly hard to play, unbearably painful to play. That is something the fan boys don't get. They say "take away my starting gun, my food, drink and bandages! Make me start naked, bleeding and with 2 broken legs lying on the beach!" And they think crawling, scrapping along for hours trying to find supplies only to be killed 2 hours into your fruitless search is FUN. Well maybe it is to them, but not to 99% of the human race. And the ultimate goal of this mod is to be a MARKETABLE PRODUCT. Yes people, it is about MONEY. The FREE MARKET. CAPITALISM!!!!!! Rock On Capitalism!! Ahem... They claim they want realism, that all others are pansies and carebears. What they want is something the vast majority of the public is NOT going to pay for. There needs to be a compromise. There need to be servers with varying degrees of difficulty. And loot you gather on a medium difficulty server can be carried over to a lesser difficulty server but not to a higher difficulty server. No collecting good gear on an easy server and then moving with it to a hardcore server. Or maybe that could be allowed, it really doesn't matter to me. But the attitude that this game needs to be tailored only to a select few who get off on unending grief will be the death of this mod. -

Did Arma II's Franchise get saved by DayZ Mod?
dogsbd replied to Igor (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
His reply was clear, not his fault you're so dense you can't understand. -
I think there should be a homosexual player model in DayZ. But it should be easily identifiable. Like leather chaps, long bushy mustache, high heel boots, carrying a whip. Take a look at pictures of any San Francisco gay pride parade and you'll get an idea of what I mean.
-
Fine. Remember you heard it from me first when it happens.
-
The idea that either people or zeds can detect how good or bad another player is by smelling of them, looking at them, moving their cursor over them or any other hocus pocus mumbo jumbo is LUDICROUS.
-
The penalty for dying just got a lot steeper. So now once someone has a gun and basic supplies they will shoot on sight any other player they come across so as to not risk having to start over. PvP will get much worse and Co-operation between strangers will be almost non-existent.
-
READ SLOWLY SO YOU CAN UNDERSTAND Once someone FINDS a gun and other basics they will be MORE DETERMINED THAN EVER to not loose what they have and therefore they will be even MORE likely to shoot anyone they come across. Isn't it obvious that most players have been paranoid of late and isn't it also obvious that this will make them more so????

:D :D :D :D Some people are on a "hate anything American" hair trigger so they can't catch the intended humor! I thought Obama was supposed to make America loved world wide??? :D :D :D :D :D :D See, now THERE is humor!!!!! No guns in Chicago because they are "banned"!! Hilarious!! Bwhahahahahahahahaha
