Gaming of all kinds. I am getting better at this game called life.

What I think you need to understand is we are still pretty early in development and a lot of the systems in the game still do not function as they should. Temp is kind of working but we still do not get sick enough when we are out of "acceptable" ranges. The environment does not fluctuate enough to pose a real challenge yet, considering he is talking of adding in snow, wolves, and other hazards. Zombies are still being tweaked every patch and each one gets a little better with their pathing, agro ranges, etc. I could go on and on. Just remember this is not even close to a finished product yet and we are here to help make it better by playing it and giving good feed back. Thanks for your posts so far. They have been a pleasure to read.

I love how you state something as fact when all the stats coming off the servers state otherwise. Current stats show that PVP only accounts for around 20-25% of all deaths. If you are tired of dying to bandits then get better at avoiding cities that are known to be bandit over run and learn to get your gear elsewhere. My current character is nearing the 1 week alive mark and I have only encountered 2 players. First one I heard on the other side of a wall in the house, we both yelled out on the in-game voice that we were freindlies, and went our separate ways without firing a shot. The second guy tried to sneak up on me while I was raiding a few very well stocked tents and when I fired at him he Alt+F4'd and never came back. I have been as low as 4k blook and I have not had a canned food product in 4 days. This is the end of the world, not some fair chance at a new life.

How are you being "obviously friendly"? I have been pretty successful in not getting shot by everyone by simply using the ingame voice chat to yell out that I am friendly and negotiate fair passage with other players. I even was able to trade stuff with a guy the other day. It was great.

Like everyone said above this is an Alpha mod and it is not yet optimized. I had a lot of the same issues you did and my computer runs all the most recent games on ultra or high settings just fine. There are a few things you can do to optimize the game. Check out this link for detailed optimization of the game. http://pastebin.com/F7Q8Ne2i

I have actually noticed this at many military locations around the map. I will spend 10 minutes clearing out a horde guarding a building and then as soon as I walk in the door 20 more spawn outside. It seems to me its an issue with the way the game reacts to your presence in certian areas of the game. My most recent example was a deer stand (yes, for loot purposes they are classified as military locations). I shot the 3 walkers around the stand and stood to start walking (yes, I walk a lot in game as I don't run a lot out of game, trying to keep it real) toward the stand and 3 more insta popped not 5 seconds after I cleared the first three. So immersion breaking.

I for one avoid shooting other survivors at all costs. I have run from them, hide from them, and generally stayed away from places I think other people might be. Even with all my efforts to avoid others I still die from people more often than I die from Zombies. It appears people are just out to kill other people without care or reason. It would be nice if they would at least engage me for a reason or even give me the opportunity to negotiate a surrender but no they just shoot and kill and then run around all willie nillie looking for the next victim. To me this is really the only immersion breaking part of this game. I can over look the bugs and the game engine problems but getting killed mercilessly really bums me out. I mean I would even be up for getting robbed from time to time but the fact there is no reason for others to respect life in this game and so destroy it at any opportunity just makes me sad, sad what that says about those people. I was lucky enough to run into a guy yesterday that I heard comming and so I yelled out on the in-game voice chat that I was friendly and non-aggressive. He yelled back and we negotiated our peaceful co-existance for the few minutes we were around each other and then once he got what he was there for and I had what I needed we parted ways. Sadly a few minutes later I heard a gun shot and saw he was killed. I stopped by the church on the way out of town and said a prayer for his soul.

The threats in this game no longer exist.

I am running the latest version of the game (not sure of the number but it was published on July 9th, at work or I would check it). Sounds like it might be a server issue or a version issue. For a challenge you should hop to a server that is not local time and try out the nightlife in the game. It can be a lot of fun! -
Ok, you guys are wearing my PM fingers out so I am just gonna type the vent info here. Vent info 70.85.251.55 port 3211 no password (I think I have it set to a 25man right now, if we need more that can be arranged). You are welcome to bring friends but please be respectful. Vent admins reserve the right to kick/ban for an offense they witness including, music transmission over open mic, overly crude language/speach (including your sign-on phonics), or any other abuse of the system or server. If I start seeing/hearing about a lot of people logging in I will create more channels. I am also going to start trying to find a home server for the group I run with to play on so we can set up camps and have a pretty persistant existance. Let me know if you have any suggestions. One last edit: My steamname is the same as my forum name if you want to find me on steam.

I am not sure I agree with anything you say. I have zombies aggro on me all the time from all kinds of distances. I have caught a cold from exposure to a long rain during the early morning hours. Maybe it is the servers you are playing on? I have noticed that some servers seem very easy and safe while others seem more difficult. I also don't think you are going to be challenged every second of every play session. This is supposed to be realism survival. A lot of time is traveling, making sure you have supplies, and being smart when you do have to go into town. Back to the idea it might be the servers you are playing on. Do you play on low or high pop servers? Do you play in your timezone or do you mix it up to get different situations to survive in? I tend to play a lot on my local time servers because I only get to play late evening, night, and early moring. I am always having to battle cold, light issues, and different kinds of things like that. I tend to play on moderately populated servers 20-40ish pop. Yeah you can run like hell from Zombies but that does not make it easy, especially if you are on a server with a good pop, because then you have to worry about all the people that are seeing you parade the horde around and might want your gear. On top of that my friend and I were running around the other day and we hopped a fence and he broke his leg, we had no morphine so I left him there to run back to town to get some from the hospital. on my way back to town I hopped a fence and broke my leg. We both ended up dying while trying to crawl our way back to civilization where we knew we could get medicine for our legs. Zombies are only a small part of all the complex parts of this game. If you are not feeling challenged enough there are plenty of things you can do to change that but I don't think there is any reason for the game to change for you. I feel like the zombie aggro is in a sweet spot right now. I just wish they would make the spawn range futher out so I don't have to watch them magically appear and loose my immersion for a few seconds. My character has been alive for 2 days now (about 16 hours of that was actual play time) and I am proud of what I have accomplished. It has been hard and I still have a lot to do to make it to my 1 week goals! TL:DR I don't think that the mechanics are the problem. The game is more about a day in the life of a survivor than it is about surviving the zombie horde like other game mods (ie Zombie levels of Call of Duty or Resident evil Survivor levels, etc). -
PMs sent to you guys with vent info. Hope to see ya around!

Zombies spawn from further away.
Quaiden replied to pvt_ammo@hotmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Sadly I have experienced the above as well. I would think you would not have zombies spawn ontop of you and instant aggro but it happens to me all the time. I go into a small encampment, clear out the local horde, and about 5 minutes later (sometimes way sooner) they start popping back up right on top of me and instant aggro. I can't even count how many times I thought I had an area secure with baracades and wire and such just to have a zombie spawn inside my defenses or just walk right through them like they are not even there. I love how immersive this game is but when this stuff happens it totally takes the immersion out of it for me and frustrates the crap out of me. -
Looking for US Clan, I'm a close quarters purpose role bandit

You know you are in the wrong subform right? This forum is for Survivors, not bandits -
I have sent a PM to all who replied giving out the Vent info. It is a 25 man vent so feel free to bring friends. There are usually atleast 1 admin on the vent in the evenings. I am going to list my play schedule below for those interested in joining with me. Additionally I will list what I think is my partners schedule so you all can see if you will fit in with us. I am interested in forming a loosely nit survivors clan/group with some loose structure and just a lot of help and fun. My schedule: (all times listed in CDT/-6UTC) Sunday 10pm till 4-6am (depends on how tired I get) Monday 10pm till 6-8am (again depends on how tired I am) Tuesday don't get to play any except that bleed over from Monday night Wednesday 530am till 9-10am (after I get off from my overnight shift) Thursday 730-8am till 10-11am Friday 730-8am till 9-10 am Saturday I usually don't get to play any I know this schedule is kind of FUBAR but I work overnights right now and its what I got. Vent is still open 24hours with people usually on it in the evenings starting around 5-6pm CDT/-6UTC. Vex's schedule as best as I know is usually 9-10pm till early morning 2-4am depending on school and work during the week and he is usually on a lot more during the weekend. I really hope to see some of you on vent and I hope you all have fun trying to stay alive!

My friend and I have just started playing this mod and we are looking for more survivors to join us. We are both from CDT (UTC -6) time zone and usually play between 10pm-2am CDT. If you are interested let me know. I am going to be checking back here occasionally. We have a vent server and love to chat.
