Stop hosting DayZ's forum on a beige computer
eastonch@gmail.com replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Do you not think that this has something to do with CloudFlare? Since every request has to pass through that, maybe there's a caching problem. Anyway.... SecuredServers already HAS A GREAT ANTI DDOS mechanism in place, so CloudFlare really isnt needed. I'd suggest removing CloudFlare, changing to either LightHTPD or Nginx and optimize MySQL configuration to match. Watch server loads, and watch incoming traffic. @BrightBull there's no need for a 1Gbit for this website... Google serves between 1-10GBit depending on location, sites like MinecraftForum are on 1Gbits (Curse Network). -

Or just manually patch? http://arma.patchandplay.com/ -
@Jackster correctly optimized service configs for MySQL / PHP / Webserver will allow caching (x-cache?) and that would speed up most site page loads, for the database lookups, a properly posistioned localhost MySQL with some features turned off, would run perfectly.

@DeathDealer117 -- Six Updater/Launcher sucks. Irrelevant of what it can do, it doenst do it well. Its program is sloppy and the entire interface just is confusing for anybody to even look at, never mind use in the intended function. I would never use an updater like this, I always use the programs "auto update" feature, or use patch mirrors from reputable sources, 'or my own mirrors' to update. inb4 "six launcher haters" -

Hi to both @Vitdom and @Jackcrow; Firstly, Vitdom, you have no idea what you're talking about, for one, we're just offering a mirror service, we're not releasing "new" modified patches or modifications of the game. There's nothing immediate that flags up with my researching that would say this was illegal, and upon request, we would take the entire system down. How can you compare us with hackers? Hackers ruin the game, modify files, inject code. All we do is provide the EXACT mirror copy of a file on our servers on several locations. There's not much more I have to say to you, apart from you're completely misunderstood and should re-look into what any law governs this. @JackCrow Thanks for the defense, and the answer to your question would be that we're just offering manual patching, "double click to patch, basically". Using our service, you have a larger range of sources which, in the right location, increase your speed of downloading the file. We find that all of our servers download from the main website at ~20-200KB/s something which I find horrificly slow for a 100/1000Mbit connection. It's all dependent on your location however. SixLauncher I beleive is more Peer2Peer based and downlaods files from other peers, and DayZCommander uses the normal patch website. -
Load times are getting worse
eastonch@gmail.com replied to rookkii's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
What does it matter that Arma2 is single threaded? SSD's are storage volumes... not cores? It would greatly help help the load speed, however it depends what the actual "method" of loading the game uses, weather it's bottlenecked from a bad hive server, or weather it's the server itself. with DISK IO. -
arma2 is a beast... It rips my 6870 to shreds on ultra, however I do have two active displays, so that is a contributing factor. You're going to need to spent atleast 200-300£ on a GPU to support "high end" settings. Otherwise, for £300 you can build a machine that would support arma, using the older "4850" GPU that I had, it's on ebay for about £50 and runs medium->~high settings quite well considering.

Could I run Dayz Mod?
eastonch@gmail.com replied to Skids (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Even my Radon HD 4850 1GB Card struggled with anything above "medium". Just got a nice 6870 that's running high @ 1080P quite well. Tried moving it up to "Ultra fuck off" settings, but it seems to lag a little too much for me. -

Due to "pinning" restrictions, we're no longer pinged, but will continue to update our servers. Please feel free to spread to word to your friends. -
Personally support this too. I think there should be a larger "public" list of "Verified / community rated" Mods / Sites, such as *ahem* patch mirrors and launchers.

I beleive DayZ Commander checks and extracts from the main mirror. So if the main site is down, the Commander won't patch, and not sure how it will handle it. I personally manually update, much easier than letting "programs" automate it for me, and atleast I know that I'm patching to whatever the heck I need :']! EDIT: After about 4 hours of messing around with the OVH France server, Finally got a half-decent kernel loaded onto it and was able to get a webserver running to my standards. http://fr.chriseaston.info/ is now live! We've noticed a small bug with the fl.chriseaston.info showing some "broken" links, we're working on it, however these are low-priority as they are very old patches. -

Thank you for the kind words @HenryFjord -- I guess I was instantly just expecting users to download from "unknown" websites. We ran into some stupid problems with our France Node last night, kept failing and going offline, I've changed the OS back to the original that everything else it, Debian 6 32Bit (Small amount of ram!). And finishing the installation of a few things, we should have the patch mirror up within the hour. -

There's a small bug I'm trying to find a work around for; for a little bit of an explanation, if you try to download a newly released patch, before it's finished downloading, you'll only get what we have downloaded of it at that time. Causing corrupt files. My one solution for this up to now is to make it download to a new directory on the server "~/incomplete/*" then move it to its proper location once it's finished. This would work perfectly, I'm just not sure how I want to go about implementing a fix. There's a few changes I'd like to make to the php scripts so I can just select a "subdomain variable" eg `$subdomain = "UK"` so when placing the script on several different mirrors, I just have to change one thing, rather than 7-8 like I currently have to, I could also make it check for updates to the main script once an hour, this would make for easy "mass-updating" the php scripts without having to connect to each individual server. They're just some of the changes I'll be working on tomorrow, in addition to setting up our new "PARIS/FRANCE" server which is connected by OVH Systems at 100Mbits (I'm using the 2G Kimsufi for personal projects, so I will be able to host a patch mirror there.). Oh, I almost forgot, I have a temporary (6month) server located at Cyprus, Not sure how this will fare for us, but it's something I can try, that's a little different. ** Thanks, Chris. ** -Cyprus server is running at 700KB/s to linode/cachefly download tests... Maybe not a wise idea to host a server there, but we'll see. -

Ok, I'm getting slightly fed up of the negativity you guys are placing on this. A) It's an unofficial patch mirror, BASICALLY, this means that we're not endorsed or "supported" by anybody else than ourselves. B) It's not a program, it's LITERALLY a "MIRROR COPY" of the files hosted on the official site. C) They're mainly on lines connected by large networks ranging from 100Mbits to 1Gbits, find out your lowest ping by pinging each web address("{ecus,fl.it}.chriseaston.info"). D) I'm sorry, but if I really wished to infect a machine, I'd target the hacker audience, post some bullshit hack up on youtube, 50K downloads instantly for "free hax". Why would I get any joy out of providing virus links to what I thought was generally nice people on the DayZ Forums. Here's your options: 1) Suck it up, realise it's not a virus, or anything else, it's an exact copy that's checked every 25 minutes (source can be provided to our scripts, if you so wish, we will also start MD5 hash checking if you /really/ want me too.) And download from non-flooded servers that you should get about 80% of your general speed to. (I'm on 40MBits line and I get 1.5MB to both US servers and 2.6MB to the IT server.). Tell your friends, and enjoy this "FREE" service that I am gracefully paying for out of my pocket. 2) Start flaming that this is a virus, without any sort of proof apart from the OP is norwegian and has 4 posts. I know where I'd be. @SausageKingOfChicago -- You realise that Avast is behaviour based right, so any sort of "attempt" to keylog, RAT or any other malicious methods, are detected, along with virus signatures, so aslong as there's no new super virus out there that's using some new-behaviour technique... You should be fine! -- Also, Avast tends to "sandbox" anything that it finds "oooo what's this". Allowing you to safely open the file. And no virus is instantly going to take over your computer. Just to prove how we're downloading from the main patch mirror, here's the source: [script.sh] -- Ran every 25 minutes using the cron line: */25 * * * * /root/script.sh http://pastebin.com/vnnYmakX I'm not just going to give out the source to our PHP script that sorts the directories out etc.. Since it took me a few hours to make it work how I wanted it to (writing to arrays, reading from them, sorting, string replaces... etc..). If there's any more discussion into why you think this is a "bad thing" then please let me know, as everything here is 100% legit, provided free from myself and jordy (however I'm paying for the servers..., not that they're much as they're mainly Low-End.). Thanks for reading, hopefully I've been able to change some minds of haters, otherwise, I don't really care. I'm not profiting from this, if you're hating, then just stop looking. You're not forced to have nice things. It's an option you're given. Be Grateful. Edit: France server coming up shortly, Just purchased a KimSufi for another project, but will be able to host 100Mbit connectivity of the patch mirror, new site will be fr.chriseaston.info (chriseaston.info will be changed to something more "theme" appropriate whenever I have time to go purchase a new domain and edit all the pages. -

I'm sorry grimlok? What's your problem with this? Unofficial means that we're not "affiliated" with BiStudio as a certified mirror, it has nothing to do with the authenticity of the files available on our mirror. Why does nationality come into play here, are you being racist? Mods, ban this fool. Edit: Bug Fix on all nodes, due to quick file-checking, all nodes were automatically only downloading ~25% of the file then leaving it. This has been rectified by adding a 25minute interval between download-checks. Please wait 25minutes before downloading the latest patch from our servers. -

Another thing I've considered is direct downloading of the latest dayz mod, however DayZ Already provide three mirrors, but these inevitebly will come under serious load over time, I'll consider adding this in. Bug Fixes: Buffalo and Florida are not auto-updating, will be fixed within the hour. (fixed) -

I've self-coded this, they're not viruses, I assure you. We use a simplistic "wget" command to run every 10 minutes to check for changes to the website http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php/ and if a change is found, it automatically downloads the latest one. The webpage at "it.chriseaston.info" (personal site subdomain). simply reads the file directory of where the files are located and then outputs linkable text to each appropriate file. It's a little messy at the moment and as the days go on, it will get a little fancier with some nice graphics from Jordy(brightbull). There will be more mirrors launching within the next week. If the `security` threat is too high for you, then we can match the MD5 hash between the file(s) hosted on my server, and the files you would download from the official website. -
I've had a same problem :/ no fix as of yet.
