I went there with two other guys. We crawled in past some zombies. Killed a few, and they covered the bottom of the tower while I went up. Found a little loot, enjoyed the view, came back down. Some zombies spawned out of nowhere, and one guy got his legs broken, but we cleaned them out and patched him up. Then we left. No big deal, it's just that zombies spawned out of nowhere a few meters from us. But that's just a bug. Myths can be fun, but truth is better. :)

You are a disgrace to gamers everywhere. People like you ought to have their IDs database-banned for admitting to this behavior and attitude--the community would benefit from it. Shame on you. You have lowered yourself to his level, or below. Shame on you. It wasn't inappropriate--it was just plain wrong. You should talk with some people who have debilitating, incurable diseases before you wish them on anyone. It could happen to you someday. You should be utterly ashamed of yourself for saying such a thing. Grow up.

vehicle "hoarding", what the hell is it?
Junos replied to Daddy'o (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Their what? The best way to find a vehicle in DayZ is to wait until you see someone driving one, then shoot the driver and take it. :) A couple days ago my team was just fending off zombies in a building in Vybor when a guy drove by in a bus about 75 meters away. A few rounds from my M4A1 CCO SD and he never knew what hit him. We've been to Zeleno, Cherno, and places in between. Be careful, though: it's too easy to hit the Eject button and die. Vehicles are death traps, anyway! The only vehicle I want to get in this game is an M1A1! (I know there isn't one.) -
No risk, no reward, no adventure!

I was near a town at the edge of a forest watching for survivors after I heard gunfire. Then I saw an unarmed survivor come running down a hill opposite me. A zombie saw him. He was running toward me, so I moved out of the trees and started yelling for him to hit the dirt. He saw me and came toward me and yelled for help. I yelled again for him to hit the dirt. He did, and I shot the zombie with my Winchester. I took him to some nearby barns and a deer stand for him to arm himself. He got an Enfield and a G17. Then we headed to another barn in a nearby town. We got inside and heard another survivor shrieking in fright, but couldn't figure out where it was coming from. He looted one side of the barn, and then he was going to cover me while I looted the ground floor of my side. As I was going down the stairs, another survivor popped out from behind the boxes and shot me with a double-barreled shotgun. He had been hiding and listening to us talk. My new friend escaped with his life. It could have been a setup, but I doubt it, because we've remained in contact since then, and he could have shot me many times before then when my back was turned, with less risk of drawing zombies. I did a good deed, but ended up dead. At least it wasn't the guy I helped who shot me. :)

A response from who? :) You said you have your gear. Gear disappears for random reasons unrelated to hacking, anyway. Only way to find out is to log back in and see for yourself. If it's gone, well, time to undertake a new adventure to get new gear.

Rocket has said that he would like to add them someday. IMO, nothing is ever confirmed until it is released. This is a grand, adventurous experiment. But it feels a lot more like having an adventure trying to survive when you can't telepathically communicate with everyone in the world.

I do think that 1.7.2.4 has a problem. Some of my friends have gotten sick because they didn't realize their temp was too low. It seems like the thermometer icon doesn't change as it should.

Raising Gamma/Brightness an Exploit?
Junos replied to ratfever's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't consider it an exploit because it doesn't give anyone an unfair advantage. Every player can do the same thing. I also consider it a necessity to play at nighttime, because ARMA doesn't simulate human eyes adjusting to the dark. Go outside in real life at midnight, go away from streetlights for 30 minutes, and you'll be able to see well enough to navigate, especially if the moon is out. On the other hand, join a DayZ server at 0100 and sit there and stare at the screen for half an hour, and it's still too dark to see. If the moon isn't out, forget about seeing anything, even if you raise gamma. It's also crucial to remember that every player's system and environment is different. Some people may play in a dark room, but others may play in a lit room. Some may have brighter monitors. Some may be visually impaired. Every player must be free to make adjustments to suit his needs. In the end, even at 0100 with gamma turned up to 2, you're still at a serious visibility disadvantage compared to daylight. Zombies can't see you, but it's harder to see them, and you probably won't spot other survivors at a distance. I think it's balanced enough. -
this game is turning into a death match because zombies are easy.
Junos replied to A Zombie's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Logical fallacy: "DayZ is 'about' what I want it to be 'about.'" Truth: DayZ is an open-ended, sandbox, adventure survival experience in which players create their own goals and playstyles. DayZ is the phenomenon it is precisely because of this fact. If everyone had their way and made DayZ like favoriteGameX, DayZ would no longer be DayZ. I'm glad Rocket is in charge and no one else. By the way: play 1.7.2.4. Zombies aren't so easy anymore. They can hear again. Now if you break a bone, you're toast, and even your buddies probably can't save you from the hordes of bloodthirsty monsters before you're dead. I actually think they're a bit too much, now. Survivors will have to shoot zombies from farther away to avoid aggroing more, but this will make them more vulnerable to other survivors who hear the gunfire. But maybe this is just a case of survivors needing to adapt. Remember: DayZ is something new and different. I am mystified as to why people want to take the adventure out of DayZ and make it like some other game. Bottom line: Adapt to the experience--don't adapt the experience to yourself. -
We don't really need anything on the debug monitor. There's no "Hunger: 78%" or "Thirst: 24%". The debug monitor will ultimately go away--that's what the icons along the right edge are for. It doesn't really make sense to know how many milliliters of blood you have, anyway.

It ruins the immersion. It's unrealistic. Just wait for radios. Or join a server's TS server. Half the ones I join have open TS servers in the MOTD. If you want friends to play with, there are a million ways to make them and coordinate outside the game. You're using one now.

ARMA 2 Real Life Hiking Simulator
Junos replied to Jourmand1r's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
DayZ is about adventure. It wouldn't be an adventure if it were easy or if you knew what was going to happen or where everything is. You say it's tedious running around the map. I say you're not immersing yourself enough. You could be being followed. You could be being watched. You could be shot at any time. You could run into an enemy survivor on the other side of that tree. You might come up upon a deer stand you didn't expect and have zombies start chasing you. You might spot a survivor 500 meters away before he spots you, then pursue him and ambush him. You might see an animal you can hunt for meat. Use your imagination! Don't do the same thing every time. Don't go the same places every time. Keep your eyes peeled, and take advantage of unexpected opportunities. -
vehicle "hoarding", what the hell is it?
Junos replied to Daddy'o (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Is there not a range limit on those transmitters? It's not about fairness. DayZ isn't fair. It's not supposed to be. It's about people gathering vehicles that they never intend to use, for the sake of either basking in the glow of their imaginary property or preventing others from using them. Either way it's a form of griefing. It's detrimental to every other player on the server. It serves no purpose other than selfish greed. Since "we have the technology," the game can be programmed to keep vehicles available around the map on a regular, if rare, basis. This makes the experience more interesting for everyone. It benefits everyone. -
Zombies aggro from across city. When will this be fixed?
Junos replied to Jourmand1r's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To me the issue is this: in 1.7.2.3, you could go into a building, shoot a few aggros, and be done. Usually less than 10 zombies total. In 1.7.2.4, you can do the same thing, but as soon as you fire a shot, the WHOLE HORDE comes and you end up with 30 on the floor. If you don't have enough ammo before you start, you're done for. Some might say that's a good thing. I know it used to be more like this. But if you're in a town and you have 30 zombies chasing you, and not enough ammo, it's going to be very hard to lose that many. My group just lost half our group tonight because, once aggro started, if one player got broken legs, it was literally impossible to kill the zombies fast enough to save the player before he was dead. Maybe people think that's how it should be. But I don't think it should be truly impossible to kill zombies and save a downed player. I'd rather have half as many aggro which are harder to kill. -
Anyone have second weapon vanishing?
Junos replied to Mattolio (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
This happens to me over and over! I put a rifle in my backpack, I log out, log on a little while later, and whatever rifle was in my backpack is gone! This last time, I had a Makarov in my backpack. Then I dropped the Makarov and put an M16A2 in my backpack. More than 5 minutes later, I disconnected. When I reconnected, the M16A2 was gone, and the Makarov was back! -
Or else what?

Successfull trade; It is possible!

How did you execute the trade? You didn't give enough detail. How did putting the loot in a pile help? Either one of you could have sniped the other while he was at the pile. -

Had a good run tonight! How was yours?
Junos replied to Seldrad88's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I logged on to US 1223. I heard gunfire in Drozhino from two different weapons. I moved to the edge of the trees so I could see the eastern edge of the town. I heard some more shots. I figured it was people shooting zombies, because a survivor battle would have ended already. Then I saw out of the corner of my eye a survivor on the high southern hill overlooking both towns, the hill that the road comes straight down to the north. I looked with my binocs and saw he was unarmed. He started running down the road, and then he saw some zombies dead ahead, so he veered to his right, to the east, basically toward me. Then a zombie saw him. He was about 350 meters from me. I moved slightly out of the trees, and when I had clear shots, I tried to hit the zombie with my Winchester. But since it acts as a shotgun in the game, it was not very accurate, and I missed. I yelled at him over direct comms to hit the dirt so I could shoot. He saw me and ran toward me and started yelling. Finally he could hear me, so I yelled at him again to hit the dirt so I could shoot. He did, and I shot the zombie. Then he came over to me and thanked me. He said his name was Kubz. He said he was going to meet some friends in Drozhino; I figured that should explain the gunfire I heard. He didn't have anything on him at all, so I told him about the barns and the deer stand. We went over to the barns and I shot the aggro, and he got an Enfield rifle. He covered the doors while I checked the rest of the barn. He was thirsty, so I gave him a Pepsi I had. Then we headed over to the deer stand. I had him shoot some of the zombies. There was a G17 and two mags, so he got those. Then we decided to head toward Drozhino, because he said his friend was on his way there. We moved due west from the deer stand, up onto the hill overlooking the southeast edge of the town. We could see zombies all around the town. I figured there must be a player in town. He offered to go in as bait, because he said he needed food and drink. I said that we should wait five minutes and see what happens, and how far away his friend was. After about a minute, he said he wanted to go on in to town and he offered to go as bait again. I suggested that we run to the barn in Drozhino and shoot any aggro. So we ran over. As we entered the barn, I heard the sound of a survivor shrieking in fright. I didn't think it was my character, because I was at full health, and I could tell it wasn't my new friend. I thought it might be a survivor just outside the barn, through the wall. I called out in direct comms to hold his fire, that we were friendly, and that we wouldn't shoot him if he didn't shoot us. Kubz checked the north side of the barn for loot, and he covered me while I checked the top level of the south side. Then he said he'd cover me while I checked the floor of my side. So I moved to the stairs, and saw him pointing toward me with his Enfield, toward the ground--he wasn't pointing right at me, just looking toward the stairs. So I started moving down the stairs, with Kubz to my left on the second level, and suddenly I was shot. I turned to my right and saw a player behind the boxes pointing right at me. I tried to fire, but my character was in shock and not really responding to movement on the stairs. I yelled, "There's the player! There he is! Shoot him! Shoot him!" Then I WAS DEAD. I had added Kubz on Steam, so I asked him what happened. He said that he was low on rifle ammo and that he ran out and escaped and disconnected. I guess I shouldn't have had him shoot those zombies--I thought he had more ammo than he did. I had 45 slugs for my Winchester "shotgun" when I started this adventure, and I had only fired 7-10. I wasn't sure if he had set me up. He did want to go to the barn in Drozhino, and he did tell me he'd cover me while I checked the ground level. He could have been talking with his friend on Steam--he had said he was--and telling him that we were coming in, and that he'd tell me to go down the stairs. It seemed to me that he was pointing right at the spot where the enemy survivor appeared to shoot me. It seems like he should have been able to shoot him easily. In the end, I can't say for sure, but I don't think he set me up. He seemed friendly and genuine in the direct comms and in Steam chat. He said that he runs a gaming company and that they have been wanting to set up a DayZ camp. He asked about my friends, and suggested that they might like to join with his DayZ buddies. Later, after I respawned and made it back to the area, he even offered to give me his Enfield rifle. In hindsight, we shouldn't have gone into Drozhino at all. I could see zombies all over town, so I knew there must have been a survivor there, and I had heard gunfire there 10-15 minutes earlier. After we got into the barn, I shouldn't have dismissed the shrieking I heard. I should have cleared the barn on all levels. I think that survivor was shrieking because he was low on health, so one shot probably would have finished him off. I think he had a double-barreled shotgun, so I guess it did a lot of damage to me. Of course, even if it wasn't a setup, the enemy survivor could hear us talking and that I was about to go down the stairs. He had been hiding from us, but if he knew I was going to find him, he picked the perfect moment to shoot. I wish I could "play that scenario" again. Kubz even said, before we ran to the barn, that if we found any survivors, that we should shoot them on sight. I said, "I don't know, man. If I'd taken that policy with you, you'd be dead right now." Lesson learned, I guess. At least I did a good deed and made a new friend in the game. And I had a little adventure.
