There is no zombies in this mod. They're infected, they are not dead.

Zombie Children YAY or NAY
moofactory replied to AfricanizedBees's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If this happened, it would be as if a million voices cried out..and then were suddenly silenced... Down under. U see what I did there.. But seriously, Australia would have a fight on its hands. I say do it. R is coming in Jan next year. Let's rub it in their faces. Look at how many games out there don't have children... Does it need it... no, would it enhance the game experience, yes. If when dayz is rebuilt from the ground up and the place is done up as a nation gone to hell, you will have whole families as zeds. It should be within context. A school, would have hundreds... by them selves they do little damage. As a pack...which they hunt in they are more Dangerous than 3-4 adults. Women will make it in sometime soon I expect. -
I think I just got a D-rection

PSA: Do not wear alternative clothing in 1.7.2.0!
moofactory replied to Legacy (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Glad I died recently with Ghillie on... You cant take that shit off once you drop civilian skin package. -
I for one would love to be able to see Zeds catch on fire and die. Wiskey Bottle + Gasoline + Cloth (also used in other things ive mentioned) = Molotov Could still be lit with matches. Or automatically is lit when thrown (could assume we lit it before throwing) EVERY item in the game should have some valuable unique, practical use, or it shouldn't be in the game.
-
I think this is a valid point. Skins should have practical purpose not just appearance... Ghilli suit has practical applications based on appearance. However the combat skin is purely asthetic. However it looks like your wearing a flack jacket wearing it. It should have a higher hit resistance... or body armor should be an added item in game. Protects from 1 hit kills to the torso

I used to use a home made object to put weight on any key I wanted. May remake one just for this purpose. Physical macros rule.

I see this happening in the future when it goes from mod to stand alone.

I think both the Coke and Pepsi cans should be replaced with Russian language versions, or local Russian soft drink cans. [HOW TO] Survive Starting Without A Gun
moofactory replied to dzuari's topic in New Player Discussion
This should be a sticky! I've been playing a while now and I even learnt afew things I didn't know. I'll never look at junk the same way again lol -
What there has been a major lack of is clarification on What these are, how they became this way and any kind of plot. Any great game, like any great movie needs a story.. or at least a back story to immerse the viewer/Player. People wonder why everyone is confused about them being zombies and how they should act and look. Personally I dont really blame the confusion. There is no sticky thread from rocket on this topic about any back story. (not that stands out) Almost like he decided "hey lets make a zombie mod... but they will run fast so wont be called zombies". Of course this is an assumption, everyone's making assumptions on them. Because the general community has not been told in game, and everything in game points toward them being zombies. The mod title, the infected skins, the way they animate, the fact that they eat us, even their sounds. Its confusing to a new player. So here you all go: ZOMBIES VS INFECTED... knowing the difference: More reading: http://www.undeadreport.com/2009/08/undead-or-infected-zombies/ SO, How about an in game Intro or Homepage Youtube video giving us a back story? Give people a basic plot. Why have we washed up on a beach, Why are we here, How did we get here, What are these things walking around that want to kill us, how did they get like this? If you want to Clear up the Zombie/Infected confusion.. make the appropriate changes. Use 28 Days later as a basic model or another source if they're infected. Their head skin shouldn't look dead, just sick (perhaps with their dark blue veins showing and blood coming out ears, nose, mouth, eyes) Dead skin = dead people Should they be eating people? Infected eat people? or Just mindlessly kill people? Is their drive Rage or the need to eat? Are they on Bath salts? What is their motive to kill on sight? Why don't they attack each other? There is conflicting things about the current way they are and the impression people are given. A Game like CS or BF3 doesnt have a back story because it doesnt need one. This however is not a FPS PVP game, At least its not meant to be. Perhaps at this stage Rocket doesn't know exactly what its meant to be? PVP/ PVE/ MMO/ MMORPG/ SANDBOX/ it doesn't exactly fit any of the game types. Story immersion is something sorely lacking at the moment, And while I realise its alpha, Its still good to point out that story would be good to get fleshed out before it gets developed beyond its current state as a "proof of concept". Even if it was something as simple as 3 screens of text like the intro to a movie or the back of a novel. Kinda like this: or this or this or Give us a story

Op sounds like sarcasm.

Id say based on what I know, this will probably happen. There's plenty of reason to use more of the Arma 2 NPC models to make it more diverse. Especially in Major towns like electro and churno. Infected women should be seen on every street corner :P

Could you reconsider having global chat? My argument inside.
moofactory replied to vgtg's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Ive said this on another thread: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=31711 Radio=>Global chat But Ill say it again, (warning long post) I do have to say, The servers that had alot of chatter in global tended to have more friendly's. It enabled people to talk and grow to trust each other, form groups, help people out, it was alot more social. Its alot more fun when alot of people are talking. I was having just about as much fun talking to people about what was going on in the server with everyone as I was playing. I helped out someone get parts for a car, I saved some guy from some zeds, I had fun being creepy scaring afew by talking them and telling them where they were and what they were doing... Everyone was able to tell people that they were friendly or not and if they were in an area or not... After 9 hrs of playing with 12-18 people.... NO ONE killed anyone. There was not 1 Murder in the whole time I was playing. EDIT: (I spent most of my time in Churno this whole time, saw 8 people, 2 of them more than once throughout the day) Everyone that approached an area someone was in was publicly announced, Everyone identified themselves and intentions, We all knew if someone was a bandit or not, because EVERYONE would have pointed them out. It probably Discouraged banditry. EDIT: (Kinda like how everyone knows its socially unacceptable to Blair loud music on a packed train, you could do it... but would generally be frowned upon by everyone in the carriage. IT's a case of self moderating.) It wasnt about PVP but people working together to achieve goals, getting gear, fixing cars, building a base of operations.. etc. Global communication on a server is the key to having a more friendly atmosphere with a much lower PVP when everyone is encouraged to talk to one another. When no one talks, you know ur on a server full of bandits. Without human interaction, its a lot easier to just kill someone that you have not spoken to. I find it less likely that I will Kill someone Ive been speaking to and bonding with for the past few hrs, There is a Disconnect from the fact that they are a person and not just another kill objective. You make friends with people, you band together. You warn each other of any danger, You know whats going on in the world with everyone, Again, people you bond with you are less likely to kill, but rather defend and help, You end up relying on one another. This was my experience on a private server recently, The most fun Ive ever had on DayZ. I love it when its social. EDIT: (It really did feel like a community.) I think Half the reason so much PVP is going on is because everyone thinks the person they come across is going to kill them on sight so they kill first. Publicly Announcing your intentions on global tends to stop this. I think public chatt should be at least a server option, as with it I think you will see friendly based servers, and I think people will want this option, not everyone wants to play pvp and I think this will only increase with demand as people will want choice as to how they can play. If demand is there and admins want this kind of thing you will only see more private servers if they can't do this on the hive. I'd even go as far to suggest giving admins a no friendly fire checkbox. See how popular the friendly servers are and you will then know if there is a big enough demand for PVE servers. I enjoy what we currently have, but it would also be nice to take a break and play for the fun of the environment and socal experience every now and again. It makes the experience completely different. EDIT:(I guess its the MMORPG feel it has when its PVE) -
Prevent server hopper : Random location after connected
moofactory replied to benw's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
How if its in any random direction? You would not be able to server hop and fast travel 500m each time in one direction. You could wind up 500m in any direction from another player or on the outskirts of a town. The only thing I could see being an exploit is it being a fast way out of danger. But you cant kill anyone and you cant server hop for loot like people are right now. -
Prevent server hopper : Random location after connected
moofactory replied to benw's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think one issue trying to be addressed is kills via hopping. This could be fixed by spawning 500m away from closest player detected. Kinda like how most fps multi games work where spawn changes. If no player is detected within 500m, you spawn where u logged. As for server hopping for loot, you will always spawn 10m outside a building you logged out from. This stops barbed wire tank trap spamming for server hoppers. No one should be logging out inside a zombie zone. I'd always logged in quiet spot away from zeds. If you have a prob with that then you must be a server hopper. Or better yet, if your detected to server hop more than twice in 2-5mins you spawn 500m outside a built up area like a village or town. -
This raises a brilliant point' date=' Why can't we use the vest and a backpack at the same time? The vest as an extension of your pack would go from junk to gold! An Alice and vest combo would be awesome. And it makes practical sense. Perhaps with it equipped pack has a dropdown menu to change access in gear menu. [hr']

I guess it depends if rocket writes up an intro. My guess is you lost ur memory washed up on a beach. In that case. Yes... why not start with absolutely nothing. Id say its a more realistic situation. As for defence against zeds, its really not that hard to avoid them all together. Your best defence is not to agro them in the first place. If you agro them then you stuffed up, weapons against zeds are Basicly mistake fixers. Weapons are really more for defence against other players.

Living off the Land, Disease and other things
moofactory replied to Oompa's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I was talking about a similar mechanic with meat when talking about cannibalism the other day. Eating Raw meat and drinking blood off Dead players causes your head skin to show blood on your face. Cooked meat makes it safe from infection risk and doesn't change skin. Some plants can give food can be eaten, You can pee in your water bottle and drink that. You can go fishing in the largest pools of water and the ocean, can eat it raw for 200blood or 800blood if cooked. More animals should be in the forest, ...packs of wild dogs (meat) Bears, Deer, Any other large Russian game. Animal Hunting could be a sub game in its self, I like hunting for meat personally. Make it a challange though, if they dont die on firs kill or you miss, they run and you have to chase them.. like in real life. You can also Hunt for skins, Skins can make a crude fur jacket and hat that keeps your body immune from getting cold. You can find cloth, cut long branches + string and make your own tents. You can also use the same mechanics to make a bow and arrows. Wood+String = Bow Wood+string+Bird feathers = Arrows You can also make traps for players/zeds to step in Wood+String+tree (spring trap) / Punji sticks? Mabye Ive been playing too much minecraft :P -
Zombies still coming through walls
moofactory replied to Bungles's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Indeed, bug not fixed. Zeds hearing is not at 50% reduction inside buildings like suggested. (bug) They can attack through walls, floor. (bug) They can pass through walls, Doors (bug) They can spawn on roofs (bug?) They can still spawn right in front of you (bug?) They can follow a players walk path to where u are even if you went up a flight of stairs and out of their line of sight, and went quiet. (bug?) They can climb ladders (bug?) They can swim (bug?) They are currently still too smart. -
Its a bug, Your exploiting a bug. It will be fixed if it can be. Don't exploit the game.
-
I dont know if its bug related, my own system or the particular private server I was playing on... But Ive been getting really bad graphic/poly tearing in one specific direction... possibly the sun.. not sure. kinda like this but front on and its large full screen grey, black and white. http://www.step2ice.com/pics/b1.jpg Always from the center of view and only ever in one direction. Seems to come from the background into the foreground. It seemed to not show on other servers. And also seemed to not happen if I changed my resolution from 1920x1200 to lower.

Servers that are not on the hive and how to Identify them?
moofactory posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I Started playing yesterday On what I thought was a Hive server but later I found out its not connected to the hive.. All this stuff I got and I cant take it with me, which would be ok if it wasnt crashing all the time. Is there any way to enforce admins to name their servers PRIVATE or NON HIVE so we dont accidentally loose our stuff when loggin into a server we dont know is not on the hive? I didnt even know private servers were allowed, Its not a huge problem except Im starting to see alot of them popping up and its becoming harder to distinguish which ones are on the hive and not.
