i try everything to not engage the other person. i'm not the type that needs to lessen the experience of another person to temporarily feel good about myself. i am playing survival right now. and i am anti-social so it works out fine for me. if i am seen at all, i run evasively. if they follow, then it is officially ON. if not, then i make my way into the shadows or location not traveled, abort my current plans (if in that area), and move in the opposite direction asap towards a new target location. it's not as exciting, but it's working.

i used to visit tree stands like "connect the dots" on my way to a destination. but really, i've only found loot worth picking up (a bandage, ammo i can use, maybe) in about 1 out of every 10. maybe even less than that. weapons, not so much. so they are no longer targets of opportunity.

yeah, i still make inventory mistakes and somehow make items disappear forever. i'm working on it though. i have good sound / headphones on my laptop gaming rig. headphones totally induces paranoia. i don't even hear the ambient sounds on my pc. and yeah, i also think doom3 also induced paranoia for me in similar ways. i didn't think anyone else would mention that.

a Lee Enfield on my 3rd play. i was ecstatic! i <alt-tabbed> out to see what on the map i should go to next. when i <alt-tabbed> back a minute later i heard heavy breathing next to me. i looked over just in time to see someone shoot me point blank with a handgun. my joy didn't last long.

Anyone ever died from hunger? I don't know what server I played on yesterday, but it pretty much didn't have animals on it (is this possible? idk). I started being hungry, and spent the next 3 hours doing everything I could (except chewing off my own right foot) to find food. I just got into the worst luck! I pushed on and on. No boars/rabbits in the forests. No loot food in towns or buildings. No cows, chickens, dogs, cats .. anything. It was horrible. ;( Made my way to the coast, and am currently logged out at 3300, starving and bleeding to death in a pub in downtown Berezino. I tried everywhere. No beans for me ;( I have to say though, even if I am dead when I log back in, this experience was so cool. Right down to the stomach grumbling noises, and emote at 4k that said "you are going to die" (don't know where that came from). And desperately searching a town i have never been into, in broad daylight, with my vision going in / out, and passing out once in a while. This game is intense. But yeah, my M24 + 8 clips for a can of beans! lol! j/k. i'd rather die.

too funny! yeah, i swear i ran though an apple orchard on the outskirts of Berezino too. i guess they don't have fruits or vegetables ingame either. hehe :)

that sucks! and doesn't sound fair at all. i died to a rock wall in a field once. yep. it pretty much one shot me. since then i have tried my best to accept death at any time. no matter how it is handed to me. for me, the fun is the game itself. not the phat lootz.

yeah, there should be a forum just for these. heck, my 1st post was this too. op: you need to reset your expectations of this game. oh, and yes, every single time i have died so far ingame (except 1 suicide) it has been to another player.

I would pay money for this mod right now. It's worth it, even with the bugs. I would only want to do game purchase. I would like it to be < $15.00 USD You would need a large development staff to rid the bugs, and add substantial world modifications for me to pay more (or a monthly sub)

op: this game is not meant to be realistic. take it for what it is. a fun escape from RL. psych 101: if you enjoy playing this mod for w/e. keep playing however you want. forget about gear. forget about being 3733T. just explore and kill stuff and have fun doing it!

i think i got this error near the end of my frustration on first install. i think it had to do with the beta. launch the arma2oa.exe from the actual beta folder and specify the actual Operation Arrowhead as the startup folder. do not start up in the beta folder. to be honest, i find the launchers which are available (six launcher, etc) to be less complicated to use than trying to set the desktop icon up to do it myself.

the error message listed in your topic does not mean that you need to delete files. so, you have now likely deleted files that arma II or OA needs, to able to run in the first place. the message means that it is not finding files which you need to play the game. re-install arma II, and OA, and the beta. d/l the latest patch (from this site or using any of the launchers [ six launcher for example ]) launch steam as admin, and run OA as combined operations once. now run (or use launcher) to run Combined OPS.

OP. while moving forward at any time, use the <ALT> key to look behind you. start to practice it. get good at it. you can maintain any forward progress, while frequently checking anywhere behind you. in doing so, you are now much less likely to get shot in the back! :o) happy to help!

tbh, you are probably just saving someone the trouble of having to go into a town for supplies. you are an easy target, that has probably looted their way North, often carrying much needed supplies. i personally am not going play around in that sector until i have my game down.

I'm new. I play the mod for exactly what it is. I love it. A couple things I didn't expect though. - A MUCH higher level of KOS by the survivor population than what I expected. I thought it would just be the real survivors up North doing this. - Griefing by players who just sit on hillsides in known starting areas, sniping new and unarmed survivors for teh lulz. I would prefer they had the guts to come down and run & gun me down in the streets tbh. But w/e.
