Thanks, I didn't know there was this mechanic in DayZ. I'm assuming it's a carry over thing from Arma? I never really played that much, just DayZ Mod and now DayZ SA. I guess the reduction in dexterity overrides the floating zone setting? I did notice that the crossbow has EXTREME floating despite being set to minimum.

What's this mean?

I voted yes, but really I'd just like to see it do more DAMAGE. The fire axe is a 1 hit kill any time (maybe OP), a splitting axe takes 2, yet a machete takes about 30 hits even if some of them are headshots that knock the Z down. Doesn't make sense to me. /shrug it is an Alpha though, I do imagine tweaking of damage is something that will have it's own dedicated period of testing in the future.

My Steam friend list shows none that are playing DayZ, but I have "friends" as described above show on the in-game server browser. Like before, they have different names and I can't see why they're showing up at all?

I believe this bug is common with a lot of survivors, but there's been no official mention of it yet. It's REALLY REALLY REALLY annoying, let me tell you that.

Apart from my own, I cannot see any Direct Chat (and as I understand it there are no other channels at the moment so can't see them either). Other people can see mine though, reactions have been duly noted but I haven't heard a peep.

What you might want to consider before this gets COMPLETELY off topic, is that the OP is talking about the bug whereby some survivors don't see others direct communication. There are plenty of other threads about this issue now, thank Christ. I'm one of the people affected by this bug, so you can kinda think of me as a disabled person (I also have really bad eyesight, my shoulder is bung from wrestling and knees from skateboarding).

Well then people ARE seeing the babble I've been typing to them, but I haven't seen any replies. Guess I've got the bug too.

Survivors can stick axes on our backs, but not hammers in our belt loops? Should we have to take up inventory space for 'em?

So I just updated the ArmA2 95819 patch and now I'm getting the most fucked up graphics issues ever. I log in and all off a sudden it looks like flares are going off throughout the whole city, the sky is all pixelated and green, keeps switching some items (trees at the moment) from how you'd see them at night time, to being fully illuminated as if it were day and sometimes the colours are flipped, like a film negative. Im trying to take photos but the program pretty much crashes before I can get the chance. One extra thing: I had a Nvidia "kernel" error occur earlier while I was shuffling files around in Windows Explorer. Maybe that's caused something? I've updated the drivers (which were up to date already) and we'll see what happens...

Pretty sure you should know what the Z stands for. You see it every time you respawn...

Bahaha this. Just got teleported along with about 50 other people to an airfield hanger and shot to shit like monkeys in a barrel. I just hope I exited quick... but I'm very afraid to log in now. Will I lose everything anyway?

I would have been on ANZ or AU servers, but either way that wasn't me. No rangefinder. Had DMR, NVGs, MP3, Mak, ALICE pack + all the camping essentials. Got shot in the back. Alas.

Wait a second... I thought we were supposed to start with a pistol in our packs? All I get is, a backpack, a flashlight, painkillers, and a bandage. How am I supposed to beat down a zombie with a flashlight? You mean I have to find a gun, searching around in the darkness, with nothing but a flashlight for defence?

Ok, so it's been two and a half weeks of playing now and I still haven't found a gun...

Uhm I just got kicked for a "script restriction" and I wouldn't have the slightest clue how to script anything. I was wielding a pistol, crouching behind a dog kennel in Electro when I was kicked. Dang. I hope I still have my gear...
