Suggestion: More personal/real characters, specifically, random character conditions
kebman replied to karr's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Addiction. I liked it in Fallout. As to being spawned with Diabetes, or other conditions: No, I don't like it. I don't see it. And I think it would only serve to frustrate and cause suicides inside a big crowd of zeds. -
Remove sidearm from sidearm slot (requires five slots in backpack, for instance - and mind the extra place needed for your ammo, lest you risk loosing it too). Right click the torch, and click "remove from toolbelt". It will now appear in the sidearm slot. Press L. Some weapons already have a torch on them, like the G17 sidearm, Remington 870 and the M4A3 CCO. In that case, just press L when you equip that weapon.

Seems legit! :)

My thoughts on 1.7.2.6 - TY Rocket & Devs
kebman replied to JADNOne's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Clamps or keys to a car: Blow the car up. It then re-spawns on it's original spawn. An educated car owner would know this, and simply head there on server reboot. Thus I see no point in clamps nor keys. I just assume all cars in the game are hot wired. I mean, would you leave the key in your car before leaving it unattended - anywhere? I thought so. -
In DayZ the Mod, loot spawns in piles on the floor. Also, you can find cans of beans in the barn, weapons, and so on. How would you find stuff like that in real life? The cans of beans would be found in places people store food. In cubboards, sure, in the food storage in barns, in shelters, etc. Where would weapons be found? In a barn? Not likely. But they could be found in weapons lockers in bedrooms, cellars, etc. And of course in barracks, or military storage points, like caves, custom buildings for explosives, etc. Also, don't discount the availability in city stores, unless you're too far from civilization, or they've been looted to hell. And sure, after an apocalypse, somebody might scrounge stuff into a barn and leave it in a mess (like you find it in DayZ), mabye drop a poor gun somewhere, or leave stuff in odd places, but it woulnd't be the norm. Most people would simply be dead, and thus houses and shops would be left like they were, untouched. I would love to see such a scenario in the standalone.

Move to locker. Roll mouse. Check contents. Doesn't seem like much programming to me. They already have those mechanics in place for weapons chests, and so on. What I forgot, was of course how soliders tend have weapons on their body when they die... Or anybody fighting. There is not much of that in DayZ, for some reason. A dead soldier or fighter would and should be the most logical place to find both ammo and weapons IRL, unless it was already scavenged. I know a saying: What isn't burned or buried, is still not lost. The saying is used when you can't find your key, or some other small thing, but it also goes for stuff like weapons and, ahem, cars. The meaning is that if still exists, it has to be somewhere close, even though you cannot find it right now.

At first I thought, "Hey, you're on the roof yourself, ya bastard!" Then I saw the dude with the TWS and thought "Hoorayyy!" And then I saw you do the wookie roll, poppin' the other wookie, and I was like jiggity jig!

Nasty Little Trend, Watch Your Back..
kebman replied to Chimaera's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes you can, just not a rifle or a shotgun. -
I like what you say about ammo.

I kill in self defence (whenever someone surprises me or just plain comes at me), and sometimes when a good hunt presents itself, where I can stalk my pray for a bit. I don't like sniping from afar, unless I'm securing for a friend. Otherwise I think sniping is just cowardice demanding no skill.

Jezuz, guys! I've had a Winnie and found a M107 in a heli crash. Would I be banned too? Wtf, a guy with all end game equipment is more believable? Having X in your packpack, especially when it's legal, low tier weapons isn't enough proof to ban a player. Just get over it! However, if there are other hacked items in the inventory, sure, ban his ass. Could be he found a cache, but then he should have known better and left it alone - buried it, demolished it, or whatever. Imagine how much better the world would be if you could just put people into jail without evidence. Hell, why stop there. Why don't we just shoot all the guys we don't trust... OMG wait a minute!

I don't know what you're talking about. I'll sure be staying on in this game for a long time, as I'm more of a sim fan than an action adventure COD/BF3 fan. I know that whatever problems with this mod are only temporary.

I've done that swim, and I didn't loose any of my gear. Probably server spesific. I'd just go for it. Or... leave your gear somewhere on the island. Suicide among some zeds, find a baot and go back and fish it up again. :D

If I find flint and some wood - or gasoline - I'll eventually find out how to start a fire, no books needed. However, for knowing how to repair a car, I might need one. But the assumption is always that survivors can read...

Locals... Why they so picky?

[Video] The revolver is too weak (Random wayz part 19)
kebman replied to albinorhino's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
The last guy, some other dude sniped him with an AS50 at the same time you shot. I've seen it happen! :D Also I'm happy to give you my badge of bandit approval. It's in the form of a hatchet stuck to your eyeball. Ummm, that is, I stuff the handle into your eye, so that you can still use, liek, the blade to swing at your victims. :D Also, one-eyed bandits are cool! -
Found one and drank it before I really know what it was. The second I left the building, I was sniped from over nine thousand kilometres away. Next time I found it, I was wiser: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/86834-just-found-rarest-item-in-dayz/#entry816750

Went to Devil's Castle at night. Found Mountain Dew at the top of the tall tower. Suddenly heard steps coming ascending the stairs. Freaked me out, so I forgot completely about the Dew. Had no NVG's or nothing. Was pitch black inside the tower, but somehow I got out. I bet it's because I let the Dew be.

Demystification of the DayZ loot spawn system [SPOILER]
kebman replied to insitv's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I wouldn't call this "cheating" per se. While it's not as bad as using a AS50 TWS that you found in a tent, this one's more legitimately in the gray zone - especially now that it's info everybody can use. -
Demystification of the DayZ loot spawn system [SPOILER]
kebman replied to insitv's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So, new stuff spawns only in the spots where there hasn't spawned anything from before? If you do not loot the spawns, but go away for more than 10 minutes, does new stuff spawn in all the spots? Reason I ask: Often the same stuff spawns over and over. Yet sometimes, it does not, and this puzzles me. -
Who's Syndicate? Don't know 'bout you, but I'd love playing against Day[9] or Husky.

Is there an upper limit?

So you don't hack anymore, you say? -
Stop saying "friendly" and immediately trusting me
kebman replied to Obsolescence's topic in New Player Discussion
Simple, don't be stupid. Put your good gear in a tent before interacting with potentially dangerous and ravenously hungry survivors. -
If a bike is knocked over can it be picked back up?
kebman replied to Welch (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
If you jam run it straight into a zed, you're gonna total the bike. You can save it, but you won't be able to pick it up ever again.
