This why you don't shoot people with axes...
kebman replied to Kangaroo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
You were sorry to death. :D Well, you know, a dude with an axe... on a Techincal... is a bit more lethal... than a dude with an axe........... -
Here are some great places NOT to place tents: intersections between longtitude and latitude the top of a hill in the open castles next to obvious points of interest under special map icons the end of a road inside

Not a care-bear thread, but asking for a solution
kebman replied to Jurkey's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This one's simple. If you want more excitement, then find a survivor, get behind cover, and then call out "friendly" at gunpoint. :D Tell him you don't intend to shoot him (unless he does something stupid). Most likely he'll behave, and you can find out if he's trustworthy from there. (But if he does something stupid, he dies, and you can let him know what a dork he was.) It brings a whole new kind of excitement to the game, as there are so many things that can go wrong. Yes, you do risk something by not killing on sight, but then again, your reward is surviving while also robbing people, making friends, or making short-term slaves - whatever gives you the most excitement to try. Many are more than willing to role-play with you if you do it. Also, if you choose the medic route, you'll get to enjoy that Hero skin. It's awesome! And there you have it. You can now decide whatever it is you'd like to do next. -
Wow... So you actually think I wrote all that just for you? Well, at least I'm glad I made you feel special. :D
-
Yes. Worst of all, I got you to read it all. Mneh heh heeee!
-
Yes, it would be like first person Sims! :D
-
Yes. However it still depends on how many people you shoot, vs. how many people you help. If you put on a ghillie and kill a lot of survivors, you'll soon get the bandit skin, no matter your camoflage.

Ideas to make forests less boring. Pre-infection tents?

So Utes is basically COD with zombies? Only with much more realistic weapons physics. Sounds like fun!

Even if they completely stopped producing more ammo, loading your own ammo isn't that much of a hassle. The stockpiles of ammo in most European countries are... incredible. And if most of the people were weeded off into zombiehood, there would be even more ammo per person. IRL you could probably just move from town to town and headshot zeds to clean things up, and then start to rebuild society. The only real danger would be marauding bandits and the chance that your mate suddenly "turned" while you were sleeping. Or maybe an ambush of roaming zeds in a pack. Your worst enemy would in fact be contamination and turning into a zombie yourself. Sure, hoarding would be a problem - but where? Stacking tons of ammo in the woods would IRL leave trails. It would be hard to disguise. It would in fact be much simpler to set up camp at an already established military stockpile and guard it as best you can. Sure, it might attract some attention, but then again, the few who did come, would probably be welcome, as any help would be much appreciated and because in real life, there's strength in numbers. The real struggle would be who should have control over the survivors. I suppose the new types of "government" would be much like those of many failed African democracies. It would start with "garrison commanders" (self proclaimed or not, legitimate or not) taking control. There would in fact not be much KOS. Instead loners would willingly surrender to bigger groups, and the real fight would be for the top positions in the social hierarchy of those groups. Anybody showing the least sign of aggression or opposition would be shot, or at least ousted from the group. However, for the sake of a good story, making ammo scarce and other people more dangerouse to your personal safety, would be much better. John Ford said, if you get the chance to make a story about the legend, or about what really happen - you should always choose the legend.

A simple map maker - the simpler the better - so many can make maps. A system must then be made to weed out bad maps, and award good maps - and maybe have them appears as standard maps. Simple as that. Thus people can enjoy their own maps in a simple way, while good maps can be enjoyed by more.

It will take years for that to happen. Not to mention that people can make their own ammo. Plenty of hunters have their own ammo making "factories" at home here in peaceful Norway. At any given day in the army we would easily spend many hundred rounds at the firing range, and even more with weaponry like the MG3. Look, zeds aren't that difficult to hit unless they're rampaging right at you. It's not like they take cover or anything. Instead they slowly roam the contryside, and thus it won't take much ammo to shoot one. If you get time to aim, one bullet is enough. If you were talking about a civil war, then probably, maybe, ammo would get scarce - after a few years. But given how the outbreak - or whatever you call it - would weed off arms capable humas at an alarming rate, the leftover ammo would in fact increase per person after a zombie apocalypse. This is supported with evidence from the 1300's when The Black Death roamed the contry. People died at an alarming rate, but at the same time, resources actually became much greater for the survivors. And the fewer survivors, the more resources would be left over after the casualties are weeded off. Many of Norwegians are surnamed "Ødegård". It can simply be translated into "Deserted Farm". This is a legacy from The Black Death and the many deserted farms that were settled by... survivors. ;)

In Norway hunting rifles, shotguns and saloon rifles are the norm, usually at farms where there are licensed hunters. Many of these also have the room and equipment to make their own ammo. Hunting is big in Norway as there's plenty of forest to roam, and much game like that of grouse and moose. There are not many people with weapons in the city or in "regular" homes due to strict gun laws. One exception is if they're collectors - and in that case, expect MP5's, WW2 guns, or more exotic firearms, hehe, and swords and flint lock pistols. Most of these are however illegal, or the guns are made unusable. Such collectors are far and few between, though. The two other exception are of course criminals who own pistols, and gun club members - the only ones who can legally own side arms in Norway. Also not too many of those... There are however many military home guardsmen around, and most of them have cases and trunks with parts for the HK AG3 or other army issue weapons, as they're supposed to be able to mobilize in a very short amount of time. In any case it's against the law to store weapons in a state where they are ready to use, so certain parts, like the firing pin, are usually stored in separate rooms, or even separate buildings like the many mobilization centrals, so it's not like you'd find a usable AG3 just like that. "Fun" fact: You wouldn't find crossbows in Norway as they're illegal. Or at least they were for a long time. Most of this is also true for the other Scandinavian countries. To sum up Scandinavia: Rifles, shotguns and saloon rifles at most farms or the apparment of a hunter. Not much weapons, if any, in the city due to strict gun laws (with a few exceptions). Home guardsmen store some military weapons, but they're not ready to use. So you could say there's actually a fair amount of weapons in Scandinavia despite strict gun laws. Most of the population know how to handle a gun pretty well due to mandatory military service and basic training for everyone, and the system of trained home guardsmen who will hump their asses into the mountains and forest and conduct guerilla warfare for a hundred years if anyone decided to try something stupid. I'd expect survivors after a zombie apocalypse would most likely be rural hunters, military guardsmen or simply nature lovers (many of those over here) who hid there asses in the bush until things started to quiet down. Thus after an apocalypse, you might find some weapons in tents or in huts or cabins in the forest. Another fun fact to end the discussion: In Norway we produce the famed multi purpose round. It won't just pierce a hole in your torso. It will blow it away completely. ;) Other than that we're a peace- and nature loving nation.

New player, always running into snipers.
kebman replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
A sniper weapon is not good for self defence. It's only good for offence. Thus I usually shoot snipers on sight. However I realize that some snipers are good people that just cover their friend or their clan when they're looting. Also I will still be cautios around players otherwise armed. @OP: A lot of your grief is due to poor tactical movement and little or no use of cover. Your first order of business is always to find the best possible natural or unnatural cover. Second, don't do stupid things like moving in the open, or moving in such a way as to create a silhuette. When you start to become mindful of those things, and it becomes second nature to move in a discrete manner, you'll experience far fewer sniper occurences. Learn how to move from cover to cover, and how to expose yourself as little as possible. Also learn to look for signs of other players, like, say a small city already full of zeds long before you're close enough to spawn them yourself. Also pick up a book on military field tactics and soldiering, and you'll survive far longer. -
Ways to prepare and preserve meat: salting drying smoking curing boiling frying Also I think fish is missing from the diet. In fact, without lots of farm land, and with a long coast, or with rivers and lakes, fish would be the predominant food. All you need is a rod with a hooked line, a net or even a pronged pike. Then there are the methods of curing and ripening meat, especially dried meat is often softened in different ways before eating.

The incredibly discriptive title made me think only one thing: Yet another QQ thread about either hackers and/or griefers. :D Yes, the dev's should find a way to root out hackers, and they're working on it. In the mean time you should find a server that has better protection against them. They do exist. No, QQ-ing about griefers won't do jack. Become better at avoiding them - or even better, find a way to fight back (the latter is especially rewarding).

My Mission I always dismantle barbed wire whenever I come accross it. The same goes for tank traps. The use of Barbed Wire and Tank Traps Were it a real combat scenario with plenty of players defending a certain point, it might serve a purpose, slowing the enemy down, allowing defenders to find and him and put fire upon him. In this game, both barbed wire and tank traps are mostly around undefended points, and thus they serve no real purpose. Mostly they are useless and provide no actual use in DayZ, except to annoy. A barbed up house means go to another house. Nothing else. A tank trap in the road means find a way around. Nothing else. If it was used tactically, and for real combat purposes, I'd be for barbed wire. However, as the game fares now, I think both barbed wire and tank traps are useless in this in DayZ.

What if you're not in a party, but still find the plain crach... can you still loot it?

Favorite survival method and why?
kebman replied to DANNY (ZOMBES THE HERO)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have a starter route. First off, find industrial to get a hatchet. Then find civilian to find maps and stuff. This is when I would consider going to town. Then I'll try for some guns and go into the woods, possibly to some of the hot spots further north. Nowadays I may skip directly to civ stuff, and then guns, since I rarely need the hatchet for zed defence anymore. -
First life. Steered way clear of the zeds. Ran into the woods, but didn't really travel very tactically. Suddenly I heard this zipping sound and a smash, and then "You are dead" lit up the screen. Got one-shot one-kill sniped from a mile away.

I'm a buddhist. The game already shows you what karma is like. You can't just repent (although it's a start). You can only become a better man trough action. Good luck!

how long does it take for broken bones to heal?
kebman replied to SaiYan's topic in New Player Discussion
I broke a bone a few months back - for real! Actually I crushed my elbow into tiny little pieces on the ice. No blood, just lots of broken bones. Had to go trough complicated surgery, but now I'm mostly fine. Got a nice scar. Women loves it! It didn't really hurt that much - in the beginning... I knew it wouldn't heal up - like - on it's own, so I got to a hospital I know it's novel in a game, but I kinda like the idea of things not just healing on their own. :) -
Found a FAL like that and tried it during the night. I was immediately blinded by darkness after scoping. Useless weapon both at night AND during the day. The regular FAL, however, is a more real contender to the M14 with higher damage, yet worse sights and less ammo.

He was pointing his gun in your general direction, so I think it was fair to shoot him. I try to find cover in those situations, and then maybe say hello. On the other hand, if there are none to be found, I'll rather be the last one to die. However, for future reference, if you're uncertain about his intentions, just leave his body so that he may find his stuff again. Balota is pretty close to a few spawns anyway.

[admins/mods] please delete all topics concerning hacking/scripting
kebman replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Problems 1. The devs really need to see just what a problem hacking is 2. Readers are fed up reading about stuff they already know Solutions 1. is pretty darn important 2. is fixed by readers skipping the obvious hacker posts - I know this can be a dauting task for some, but... 2. can also be fixed by restricting where hacker-posts can be posted - to my knowledge there exists a sub-forum specifically for it 2. the hacker report sub-forum can be excluded from "new post" updates
