When the world collapsed into mindless mayhem, some people lost it* all and headed into the woods to snipe other survivors just for the lulz. If you don't yet know how to punish them, you need to learn how to avoid them. All part of the game. Also, there are other cities in Chernorus than Elektro and Cherno. ;) * All their humanity Edit: Awesome title! I ask that question constantly, especially when I'm having a bad day. Why man, WHY? The answer is "That's life."
-
Sorry, but bandits don't give a fuck what you think they should realize. Instead, man up and find a way to survive them. Moving more tactically and avoiding known sniper spots helps. Or even better, pawn them like the dude in that vid. Also, nice move with the M1911, Deeeennis. Like a boss!

Nah, man, if I used the quote function, I'd make this stuff way too easy. Cheers! And you're playing the DayZ the only right way, I assume? Regular, vanilla Arma II just doesn't cut it for the same reasons BF3 doesn't cut it: If you meet a player from the other team, you already know in advance what's going to happen. In DayZ, however, most of the time you do not know his intention, and you then have some decisions to make which makes this game so much more rewarding fun and tense than a straight shooter.

Hey dude, you don't have to prove anything to me. ;) I just forgot to mention that most of my answer was to dannyboy, who unsucsessfully tried to make contact with other players. The answer below the edit is for you, Mutagen.
-
Props for you for trying to make contact! Feel bad that you met so many dicks. I think you were simply unlucky. Also I feel bad for your inability to stay hidden and in cover while making contact, so I hope you don't think me rude for suggesting that you might still have something to learn in that regard. This is how I do it: If I go on a server and somebody spawn kill me when I'm still unarmed, or griefers harass fresh spawns at the beach... Instead of staying there to continue taking it up the ass, I leave said server to find one where people don't act like 10 year old dicks running scripts to get kewl gear. Also, if I suddenly get a bullet to my head while minding my own business, I write it up to my own poor tactical awareness, instead of complaining about it here. Sure, I think KOS is the coward's approach to DayZ, but being a sandbox it's a totally legit way to play the game. Edit: Oh, and answering your question: Because I find it extremely rewarding to look for gear while dodging zeds. Also, I find it even more extremely rewarding to find and stalk other players and possibly interact with them or defend myself from them. The latter is the most exciting thing I've ever come accross in any game. Take BF3, for instance. Meeting another player there is... meh. Why? Because there is no buildup. You already know what he's gonna do. Most of the time, you already know where to expect him to be also. Since you know all that, and you don't have to wait for it, there is little to no tension. However, with DayZ, you might see a player. Then you get time to react to it, and you get to make hard decisions like "Does he look friendly?" Again that gives you choices - all of which can be either advantageous, or fatal. In short, in DayZ you get time to let the tension build up before you meet or engage another player. This creates a very intense kind of tension that makes DayZ the best game on the market right now, regardless of whether you like to play on a high pop or low pop server.

The problem with the old skin is that it looked too bad ass. If all you do is KOS, then shame is all you deserve. ;)

So incredibly boring to watch. Where's the challenge? What server are they on, and how can they be banned?

I prefer the G17. Reason: It's got a flashlight, it's reasonably easy to get ammo. I only use it as last ditch defence against zeds anyway. Tried some SD mags in the PWD. Didn't see any difference when firing against zeds. They aggroed just like without the SD ammo. The PWD is the only sidearm I'd use against another player, but then it's not accurate enough to get those all important headshots on the zeds, so I tend to favour the G17 in front of this one anyway. Come to think of it, I've still killed more players with the revolver, but then the revolver is more common anyway, so that might be the reason. Which brings me to... the revolver. Good alrounder, with great abundance of ammo. I don't know which I prefer, the revolver or the M1911. Probably the revolver now, for range and accuracy. Yeah, yeah. The M9 SD is superiour at killing zeds, and all, but really.... seriously... if you're not a hacker, where do you find the ammo?

HFB, Vilayer, and DayZCommander need to knock this crap off..
kebman replied to ersan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The sad thing is, DayZ Commander is the only easy-install that works. If the cost is that I don't get some of the original maps, then so be it. I only play vanilla DayZ on Chernorus anyway. -
1st person does not give the same field of view as you get when you use your real eyes. 3rd person gives a better approximation of how aware a player would be in real life - also next to windows and walls, where a real world person would be able to sneak a discreet peek (like peeping tom). Thus I'm all for 3rd person. Also, like the choire said, If you don't like 3rd person, choose a server that has it disabled. Personally, I like to change between them as it best suits me. When I shoot or I am on the lookout, I use 1st person. When I travel, and need to be tactically aware, I use 3rd person - also because 1st person seriously makes me sick when travelling.

The Most Overlooked Part of DayZ - What will happen to it in the Standalone?
kebman replied to Timberwolf (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The biggest problem with zeds are... I go out to a barn in the middle of nowhere. Suddenly fifteen zeds spawn. WTF??? Fifteen zeds next to a barn in the middle of nowhere? It doesn't make sense. In the city, yes, in the middle of nowhere, no. No, no, no! Usain Bolts I can deal with, to a certain extent. Well, unless they have eagle eye sight... Some of them have that too. Or are so smart that they follow me friggin everywhere. I don't like that either. I kind of like how zed behaviour can indicate where other players are. I don't think that should be removed - especially on really big maps. But I do not like how zeds only spawn around players (and not around vehicles). It makes it too easy and convenient to find players. Also, zeds shouldn't immediately respawn if you kill them. Rather it would be much cooler if they actually gravitated to the noise from other areas. Also another reason to abolish the system where zeds only spawn around players (although I realize how this is a challenge due to lag, and so on - but they need not render anywhere else than where players have vision, for instance). Odd zed behaviour: Good indication of other player. Regular zed behaviour: Should not be an indicator of other player. -
DayZ Redux - DayZ purist focused custom DayZ Mod (Formerly DayZ DIAF)
kebman replied to venthos's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Seems like most are nice changes. I will however miss the M14 and DMR - one of the prime reasons I stay in DayZ. However, it's cool that some hunting rifles are still ingame. As for the backpacks, I think those are pretty random in game, as compared to real life. In most sports stores you can get better packs than in the army, for instance. But I get that this is designed for balance. :) -
On the Russian front in the North, you would sometimes find soldiers from both camps huddled together and frozen to death in the same fox hole, both Nazis and Russians.

I just pressed "report" and stated that this thread is a relevant and on-topic discussion about clan gameplay on DayZ. Hope that helps! :) (And hope the mods don't take offence).

So everyone is just shoot in sight now?
kebman replied to flyjum's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think it's really futile to try to decide what this game is about. You can, however, suggest ideas about how to get more enjoyment out of the game, or suggest how to deal with the many challenges it throws at you - like people who KOS (learning how to gain better tactical awereness is one important point here). If you could get rid of all the zeds in an area, e.g. that they wouldn't just respawn, then maybe I could aggree that this game was about more than PvP-ing. But given the current game mechanic, you simply can't "win" that game. The zeds always respawn, and knowing that, you also know that there's probably not much point in shooting them unless they present an immediate threat. Also, knowing that you probably only need a hatchet to defend yourself against zeds, if zeds were the only challenge in this game, there would be no reason to get better weapons. However, survival (I'm guessing that's what you're getting at, Sula) is still a huge factor with or without the PvP aspect. In fact, with a ton of griefing KOS-ers, survival takes another level. Not only do you have to gather resources and look out for zeds, but you also have to gather resources and look out for other players. And suddenly because of PvP, getting the right gun to protect yourself with becomes even more important. So I'll happily argue that PvP makes this game much more interesting. In any case, most players soon learn how to deal with the zeds anyway, and then you need another factor to make the game worth while, and I think that is the gift of the Europeans - and especially the Russians. Thank you, guys! <3 -
So everyone is just shoot in sight now?
kebman replied to flyjum's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This discussion often goes like this: "Cry, cry, somebody in this PvP based game shot me, for - like - no reason!" Then they jump to the most easy conclusion: "Because I'm so butt hurt, next time, I'll - just like an angry child (or a sheep) - shoot on sight myself!" ...thereby only increasing the problem, and not really helping to get rid of it in any way what so ever. Here's my suggestion: Take it like a man. If you want to change this game and play this game to the fullest, you've gotta dare to interact with other players before you shoot them - or learn how to do it without getting shot. I often have interesting converstions with other players... before I shoot them. The interactions can go like this: Kebman sees another survivor. He assesses the situation and whether it's safe to make contact, in which case... Kebman finds cover, and if possible hides before he opens his yap. Then he opens his yap and informs the individual about the situation. "Hey dude. Don't turn this way. I've got you in my sights. I'm not gonna shoot you if you play nice. Now drop your gun and get on the ground so I know I can trust you." Or in the cases in which I'm entrenched and do not have full situational awareness, I might simply warn people to not approach, like this: "Stay away from the tower, or I'll shoot!" Often I'll repeat, this, but for unkown reasons some people still come up, and end up dead... But whatever, at least I tried. In other cases, I might simply see someone bleedig, and offer to help, like this: "Hey you, if you want, I can bandage you - but you gotta stay still. And do not point your gun at me, or I'll shoot!" Also, if I clearly see someone's unarmed, but still coming at me (they can steal), I'll inform them to keep their distance, like this: "Keep your distance, dude! Keep your distance, or I'll shoot ya, man." I think interactions like those are way more interesting than KOS. But hey, if you want to KOS, then go right ahead. It's not like there are any hard and fast rules in this game. :) Probably I'll be in cover and still shoot you first if you misbehave. The few occurences where I'm just minding my own business and suddenly and without warning get a bullet to my head, is entirely my own fault (read: Your fault, if it happened to you) for not having tactical awareness. I only trust people at the end of my barrel. -
Strangely, entrenching tools and sandbags are so rare, that... Well, I don't get it. It's, like, potato sacks with dirt sand in them. You don't even need a shovel most of the time. But hey, it's just a game.

So the clan didn't work. Find another. :)

So everyone is just shoot in sight now?
kebman replied to flyjum's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
@OP: Your mistakes: Assuming that you could trust someone Turning your back on somebody you assumed that you could trust I find that it's much easier to trust people when I have them at gunpoint. ;) And I only reward trust if they earn it. Good idea, and many servers now demand more active involvement to let people in; stuff like signing up on webpages, and so on. However, please not that this forum (part of the community) has an active bandit board. Don't expect community members to be anymore trustworthy than anybody else. -
Are Choppers needed in DayZ?
kebman replied to Jex =TE= (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Jeez, I saw a chopper find jeagers who had their observation posts dug down into the ground. They were living underground for a week just outside my office, pissing on bottles and shitting in bags. While I couldn't find them, the chopper did. They just dropped a smoke marker from the air, and the jeager team had to leave their observation post. In a combat situation, they would of course just guide in an artillery round, or simply drop a 'nade from the chopper. That's how OP the chopper is in real life, however I guess that involved stuff like heat detectors - cuz that thing was dang impossible to see from my level. As for the in game, sure, it would be nice to make tents a little more safe. It's not cool collecting all that stuff for hours, only to have the tent ran over by a chopper team. While a military chopper with heat seeking might find people, they would still have a much harder time finding concealed and cold stationary targets. Also, I guess it's not cool having your car found by people who already "have it all". But as for that, I think they should be balanced as well, not allowing you to enter more than two cars, for instance, or despawning the first car you enterede after a while, if you enter a third - or something in that order. -
It began like a dream. Maybe it was a dream. Or maybe not. Endless fields. No grass. No trees. Next to me was a fellow without eyes. When I came over to him, he looked right into me like he could see my soul. Behind him was a goat. He was also looking straight at me, like some demon straight out of my worst nightmare. I finally awoke at the shores of Cap Golova. I didn't notice, though. I just turned right and started running. I couldn't remember a thing of what had happened, just that I somehow got there. That is when I noticed all my gear was gone, even my backpack. I was getting thirsty fast, and hungry too. Quickly I came back to reality and could again feel the need to survive. I saw some houses, a gas station, and immediately made my way there. I was looking for a hatchet, but instead I found a knife. Oh well. After a short while, I come to the outskirts of Elektro. It didn't make me feel very good, but at least I quickly found some of the stuff I sorely needed. My mouth was sticky with thirst, and my tummy fealt like it was about to implode. Finding that first box of Coke... It totally made my day. Civilization! Or the remnants of it, anyway... The zeds were particularly angry this day, so I had to be really careful. Someone had for some reason put up tents in the church, and one more in the middle of the street. Damn snipers. I cut down the two tents in the church, but didn't dare go over to the one in the street. Instead I fealt that familiar fear creep into me, and decided that I needed to arm myself. The fire station was probably the biggest disappointment of all. Weary of the sniper that might be nearby, I still decided to sneak up into the tower. I'd go for anything, even a shotgun or a side arm. I was expecting a reward, but for each floor I got a bit more anxious. Nothing on the ground floor. Well, some tincans and ammo, but without a gun it was useless. Nothing on the second floor either. I was about to enter the last floor, but I waited, listening for... anything, trying to stay in the corner, in cover and out of harms way. It was never safe, but I decided it was safe enough, so I started edging slowly up the last steps. That is when it happened. I heard a that muted crunch of bones breaking. Then I fell down the stairs in slow motion. I hadn't heard any shots fired, but I didn't want to stay to listen. The journey down to the ground floor fealt longer than the journey to Elektro. Blood was gushing out from a bad tear I'd gotten, and I was getting dizzy, but I couldn't just stop in the middle of the tower for fear of getting sniped. And there probably was a sniper somewhere - a twisted twig of a man, crushing his bony fingers around his cold steel while watching me in whatever kind of sick joy he could get from this God forsaken world. I cursed him, yet I probably had no reason. It just fealt much better to have someone to blame. I had a lot of time to think about it as I crawled out of the building, heading straight for the hospital. Luckily it wasn't very far away. If I was indeed shot, that sniper sure had a sick sense of humour. Was he now going to go down and wait for me outside the hospital, I wondered. Was he going to wait until I got myself all pathced up, and then dispatch me? I could all but wonder. In that very moment I started hearing shots, and my mind went dark with anger. I cursed out loudly as I tried to crawl faster. I quickly broke the glass and injected the juice, instantly feeling much better. In a bout of split second madness I wanted to go back and kill the motherfucker, but I just as quickly decided against it. Armed with only a hatched, I would only look retarded for trying. So I got the hell out of there, further East and into safety. Well, those were my sweet dreams, anyway...

I did that on a bike! Lost a tooth...

Bandit = part of the game. You can cope with them in several ways. You can act tough and die, or you can act smart and survive. I'll rather live to fight another day. Does that make me a coward? No, it makes me retreat in a fish-hook manner to lay an ambush to the poor bastard who thought I was a pussy. :D Never advance into fire. That's just being stupid. Instead, flank, or retreat and ambush. I mean, the goal of this game is still surviving, right?

Charm.
