DayZ: Jogging simulator. Where do zombies get food? The monstore. How do bandits find survivors in the woods? By listening to the tree bark. You know you've played too much DayZ when you: ...store all your stuff in a tent ...hoard any kind of canned food ...totally freak out if you find a box of Mountain Dew in your fridge I see living people... who should be dead... I asked a bandit what he fealt when killing fresh spawns. He answered, "Recoil". Edit: Oh, I got drunk and fell asleep at the beach the other day. When I woke up, I totally freaked out.

The goal in Dayz should be survive, not pvp
kebman replied to ElysionField's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
PvP is part of the game, and I hope it stays that way. But it could become a lot more rewarding to cooperate a.k.a. survive against zombies if their spawning mechanics were changed completely. It would open op entirely new ways of playing the game while retaining total freedom otherwise. Currently, the spawning mechanics for zombies makes the game impossible to be about survival. Instead the is about dodging zombies to get gear, so you can PvP. The main reason for this is that there exist no reasons to kill off zombies, except if you did something stupid in a dead end house and absolutely have to shoot yourself out. Other than that, shooting zombies is a total waste of bullets. You can't win that game - at least not the way the zombie spawning mechanics currently work. Ergo......... (I kind like that word) The zombie spawning mechanics absolutely have to change. The zombies must spawn independently of players, so that it becomes possible to clear an area and be reasonably sure that new threats will only come from outside. The way it is now, new zombies tend to spawn directly in front of my face, and they start spawning again immediately after I've shot a few. That isn't to say that zombies will stop to indicate the presence of other players (a really important mechanic in a game with such a large map). Zombies will still wake up and gravitate towards smell, and aggro against noise or visible survivors, thus zombies in odd places, or odd zombie behaviour will still indicate the presence of other players. This would possibly make PvP much more dynamic and rewarding, and give something more rewarding for the mindless sniper griefers to do, in turn making the game more rewarding and challenging for "regular" players. Instead og spawn killers, griefers would now act as defenders of towns or points of interest, thus giving them a place in DayZ as more than a mere annoyance. -
Suggestion: Zombie damage should greatly increase
kebman replied to ElysionField's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
In order for OP's suggestion to work, the general mechanics around zombie spawning and activity must be changed - drastically. In fact, I'm pretty sure damage can be lowered - especially in those cases where the zeds knock you out and kill you with just one blow. That's just lame. First of all, zombies need to spawn independently of players, and outside the areas where players move. I know this is the exact opposite of the current game mechanics. That is to say, there needs to be found a way to make them spawn all over the map where there aren't players, without increasing lag. I'm sure it's possible. This need not change the general tactical use of zeds to spot other survivors. Zeds can for instance still be in a sleeping state when other players aren't around. Bottom line, your smell, your visibility and not least your activity should still (slowly) wake zombies up, and possibly aggro them (if you do something stupid). Thus, spotting moving zeds, or zeds in strange places, will still be a way to deduce that there are other players around (an important game factor on such large maps). And here's the candy: By making them spawn independently from players, it is now possible to clear an area of zeds, thus making it possible to get a temporary safe zone. This is extremely important, as a it would make way for new objectives in the game, and make it possible to find good bases and defend them against both zeds and other players. This should be possible, and IMO it's the only thing lacking in the mod. Also I really like the idea of zeds grabbing you. Also, they should move more slowly, but in deliberate packs. -
I love it because of its close quarter capabilites mixed in with capable sniping capabilities, mixed in with usability during nighttime with NVGs. Also, while ammo isn't exactly abundant, there is just enough of it. It's an awsome all round weapon. It's best used in a support role, where you stay behind as overwatch to secure a potentially dangerous area while your friend goes in.

Are you a bandit if you kill newspawns?
kebman replied to PwnCaiks101's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
True, but the term is used differently in the DayZ community. Here, a bandit is a person who holds up, steals from other players or kills them to get their gear. A player that does what you say without any other gain than pleasure, is a griefer, or as I like to call them, an asshole - and he'd IMO do better at something like CoD or BF3. So you see, it does matter what the person is after. It affects what I and other players call them. Also it's not misguided to role play the romantic notion of bandits, or want other players to do it more. Sure, it's an ideal, but it's also an option within DayZ for those who dare. If you "bandit" that way, you're better than the other bandits, square and simple. Not only that, but you make the community a better place, providing experiences the other player quite possibly will never forget. :) That is not to say that I expect everybody to keep to those ideals. Oh no, when I go about my business, I thread carefully and take aim long before making contact, thus making it difficult to best me. I expect the bandits to do that too. But hey, that's how this game goes, right? -

kebman replied to PwnCaiks101's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Bandits kill to get other survivor's stuff, and while that can feel uncool, it's still totally legitimate play. However, only griefers, dicks and assholes kill for no reason except to troll bambies. Edit: To answer your question: No. -

Use the Geoverse engine, its 100'000 times better. FACT
kebman replied to RiggsUK's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I have yet to see leaves rustle, doors opening, creatures moving, people talking, fires burning... Until I see proof of that, then I have no faith in Geoverse. I have seen animations of blocky shadows being cast, though, but that's about it. -
Why do you like being a bandit?
kebman replied to Colten (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There are of course no boundaries. You can troll all you want (unless you script). :D Who's gonna stop you? It's a sandbox game! Of course, you deserve no respect and rightfully should be called a dick if you do it, though. You're a bandit if you do it to take other people's stuff. However, I have much more respect for bandits who does straight up highway robberies and hold-ups, instead of cowardly hiding behind a sniper weapon more than a kilometre away. Not only because it entails a bigger risk, but also because it can give the poor victim a seldom fealt experience. :) Though not all bandits like to be that though, simply because they're affraid to start over at the beach. Most of them are pussies, square and simple. If all you do is kill for pleasure, or without actually needing his stuff, then you're just a griefer - the lowest of the low. Backstabbing isn't that cool either, but then again, if somebody's that overly trusting, I guess they kind of deserve it, although you get no points from me for it. -
I think they're due to problems syncing with the main hive. Usually you'll end up on the Debug Plain before being sent to the beach after relogging. Oh, and you start with absolutely nothing, which is - to say the least - annoying. You get to keep your ghillie or camo for some reason, though...
-
I think these are stupid ideas. Why? Because I don't want to be limping around for an hour in agony, when I could have fun for an hour dodging zeds and hunting people instead. I suspect harsher wounds etc. will only make players suicide more often. Yeah, yeah, I get that it's about how to survive and all, but seriously. OK, I'll give it one positive argument... It could maybe make team play more interesting, or make people seek other players more often to ask for help. But given the way other players are generally treated in this game, I wouldn't bet on it becoming a trend. Aaand we're back at suicide again. Thus the point of having more severe wounds would be only for the select few sadomasochists of the bunch. I say nay.

OMGWTF ..anyone know this guy ? Need to see if he can keep his word.
kebman replied to Hetstaine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Number one reason: The other games are focused on arcade action, and not simulated realism (well, with the obvious caveat of how realistic a zombie apocalypse can ever be). Why I don't play much BF3, or think BF3 is kinda meh, is because it only offers arcade action, and not real immersion where you have to take choices you might would have to take in real life too. In BF3 you already know what the other player's gonna do. In this game you don't and you might end up meeting a friend. In BF3 you just meet another player, and then you kill him - always. In DayZ at least you have an option. That's why I'll keep playing this game over any other unless that other game can show very similar traits. And let's face it, with halos around the guns and equipment in the other game, and fake and arcady gun mechanics and physics, this is one extremely easy choice for me. However, for you it might be different. Maybe you loved CoD, and would like to see the same game again, only with a zombie apocalypse skin. Then the other game is probably for you! :D In any case: Happy hunting! -
So what's the correct times? For instance, I've seen players like Sacriel keep it blinking for quite an annoyingly long time - even when they're quite low on blood. When he finally did drink a soda, he added a fanfare to his cast, lol.
-
Yeah, it's tactical trolling.Trolling people who does not pose a threat to you from a distance. :D The only reason to snipe otherwise is to protect your team of incoming threats, or threats moving towars the location you're going. Are you doing that? Yes? Good! No? You're a troll!

Awesome! I remember I absolutely loved playing the alien in Alien vs Predator. It sure was a nice change vs. playing the regular hero human. So the topic has been posted before. Should be a system to quickly merge or categorize such treads to other similar threads. Instead of having sub-forums, we could have tags, like in Gmail. Actual working tags, that is...

In that case it would be forced immersion. Expanding the fov in 1st person would make details in the focus zone unrealistically small. And how do you know the survivor don't have a mirror on a stick? Did the zeds break all the mirrors? Seven years bad luck for them, lol! :P On a more serious note, IRL we still have other senses, like those of hearing, smell and touch, which are much more finely tuned IRL than a game can ever simulate. Also, IRL we can sneak and peek much better than ingame. That would more than make up for the mirror on the stick. Thus I think 3rd person is more realistic than 1st person, as it makes up for the senses and abilities we posess IRL. However, sure, it's more tense to play in 1st person, yet... luckily that's still a matter of preference. :)

Liking my new gun combo L85A2 AWS + M4 CCO SD, What's yours?
kebman replied to merrfack's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You've got heli crashes in your camp??? An über-pussy! I've lost count of tall the heli crashes I've found. Also I've stopped counting the times I've been to the NWAF barracks. Never found an L85 or NVG. But hey, I may just have been unlucky. If you found yours legitimately, then OK, you're not a pussy. It is still my opinion that weapons like those have no place in DayZ. Also blaming hackers as an excuse for keeping an L85 is lame. At least admit that you love the god-like and unfair advantage the weapon gives you. -
Liking my new gun combo L85A2 AWS + M4 CCO SD, What's yours?
kebman replied to merrfack's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No shit, Captain Obvious! :D It just feels stupid and one sided because you probably use the L85 yourself. Just beause you're an L85 user doesn't deminish the truth of my argument. Look, if you need OP aids for "scanning treelines", then obviously you're not as tough as the guys who can make due nicely without it, i.e.... you must be a pussy for using such an OP weapon. Not only that, but chances are that you're a hacker as well, or that a hacker gave it to you. So while I'm willing to let you have the benefit of the doubt when it comes to being a "pussy" (for all I know, you're the next Charles Bronson), I would have no qualms calling you a cheater if that's how you got the L85 - same goes from finding it in a hacker-box. It is my opinion that the L85 should be removed from DayZ until duping and spawning it in is made impossible. As for now, the only reason it's so prevalent, is because hackers dupe and spawn it into the mod because it's a very helpful aid to people who suck at the game, and thus are pussies who dare not learn how to defend them selves legitimately. The only legitimate use for the L85 is rooting out griefers over Elektro, because - just as for the L85 users - the majority of those players are hackers who only play to grief, and do not have any real skill. Then I'm all OK with such an OP weapon being used. -
You only meet your first game player once - What did he do?
kebman replied to selmack's topic in New Player Discussion
You will be shot if: you move too slow you're not in cover, or you're not zig-zagging you point your gun at another player you move un-tactically right in the open, or you make too much of an silhuette you do not abide when another player asks you to hit the deck and drop your gun you enter a place someone asks you to stay the fuck out of you take too long to answer "friendly" you don't have a mic you are too trusting and have better gear I only trust other survivors when they're at the end of my barrel. In this game, trust is earned... the hard way. -
Still, when it's an option, why make it a non-option? So the 1st person purists (1pp) can feel better about themselves? (Even though 3rd person gives a better approximation of real life field of view...)

kebman replied to merrfack's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I really love the M14 for personal defence. DMR is cool too, but it's too offencive, and I'm not into sniping/griefing/"banditry". While the paradigm for the M14 is mostly defencive, the DMR's paradigm is pre-emptive, and that prevents me from getting into interactions with other players. I find the CCO's to be too inaccurate, especially on burst or auto, but I do like the flashlight and the noob tube. Also the SD version is OK for cleaning out zeds, but really, we all know the real badge of honour in this game is having the lowest kill-count for zeds on the server. Oh, and the L85 is for pussies. The only time it is legitimately used, is for rooting out griefers on Sniper Hill. Other than that, it should only be allowed back into the game when all hackers are banished. -
Oh, I forgot to mention. H4x prefer first person.

The developers. When the developers know they're gonna lose most of their players, they care. Also, it's an option. If you don't like 3DP:ON, go play on a server with 3DP:OFF. I'm for having options. I think religion is stupid, but I happen to like that people who want it have the option (to be stupid). It's called freedom, I think.
