    Why this mod is failing

No, yours are, because you base everything on the "spot price", that is on the current statistics, while completely oblivious to the real cause behind the numbers. They are caused by basic word of mouth marketing, and it works like this: "I tested something cool and tell it to my friend. Now my friend want's to try it too", and sales rise. However, it doesn't mean that the game is perfect or even good. Saying that a game is good because people are curious about it, is like saying that the cause for higher child birth rates is due to a higher amount of storks in the same area. It's called "causation", and you should look it up. Of course my friend's gonna try it, but then, after being griefed one time too many, he will simply quit. I sure as hell won't continue playing a game with KOS as the only viable mentality, not because I can't survive, but because it's plain boring. The game mechanics should open for more options than banditry or KOS when meeting other survivors, like it was in the beginning. That was what started the word of mouth in the first place. Without it, it's just going to be another DM game. I do love the way things stay tense with PvP, but as it is now, it's just boring. Also, if hacking, duping and exploits are weeded out, I’m sure it will also level the playing field.
  2. YES No starting weapons, pls. Best part of the game. A map would be handy, though.

    Why break what wasn't broken?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I love starting without any (or little) equipment. In fact it's probably the thing I like best with the game. It just tells you that you've got to take this shit serious. You can't just run and gun. I love that. The whole point is the spine tingeling adventure you'll have to endure to actually get your priceless equipment. However, I would love the game to be more social, and reward cooperation to a larger extent.

    Worst Game Experience ever

He's allowed to feel mislead. If those are his only gaming experiences, I can't really blame him for it either, because that really sucks. On the other hand, this game is well known to have a steeper learning curve than, say, COD... Oh, bye the way, this game has been advertised - by the many players and reviewers claiming that this game is the next break trough in gaming, and not to mention by this very forum. The poor sod probably bought Arma II and the exansion just to play DayZ, and for nothing else. Albeit he should probably have done better research, you can't really say that the game is free. You have to have the game before you can play the mod, so that argument is kind of moot. --- My worst experience with DayZ: Not getting to play the mod for nearly all of the two weeks I had access to a PC because of patching problems... I did however get to play some Arma II, and I really, really liked it (actually I'd been wanting to play it for some time, but just didn't have a PC to do it on). I think it's much more envolving than, say, COD... but also BF3. The reason: I prefer simulation to brainless action.

    My screen shaking

Shivering because of cold: Heatpack Shaking because of pain: Painkiller Shivering because of sickness (is this possible?): Antibiotics If you're pulsing, you're in severe pain and so low on blood that you're near death. You need a blood transfusion or eat some cooked meat. However, if that doesn't fix it, you've got hardware/software problems or you're just trolling. Or... The game makes you so nervous that you unconsciously shake your mouse arme. Check your arm for muscle ticks.

Please Rocket, turn on "Who killed who"

How about hackers that simply teleport people into mid-air? They would kill people en masse, but would never get friendly fire for it.

    Safe trade

Anybody had any luck trading or bartering items in-game? I know drug dealers have the system down. First they take your money. Then they make you run somewhere else to get the dope. Dead drops could also work. Or possibly hidden tents. A safe-house? However, the way DayZ works, first they'd take your gear, and then probably they'd kill you and take the rest... Or just kill you, and save themselves the trouble. You'll respawn anyway. The reason drug dealers don't KOS is because they know you'll come back for more. It's a mutual benefit. And if they kill you, you don't respawn, so there's really no benefit in it. This mutual benefit is IMO lacking in DayZ as it's easier and safer to just kill you. So... Any ideas on how to make trade and barter a viable option in DayZ?

  10. Rocket already does. He does so by what he adds and takes away from the game. If he adds blood packs that only help when administered by other players, he makes coop a better solution for surviving. If he adds cannibalism he makes KOS a better solution for surviving. You simply react to his whims like a pawn, and you don't even know it.

When do you count as bandit?

The levels of banditry: Cunt: Will make friends with you first, and then stab you in the back. Dick: Kills anyone on sight, armed or unarmed. Bandit: Will try to rob you, or kill you for supplies. Survivor: Only kills in self defence.

    Sidearm review

For some reason I constantly compare the weapons I use. Since I'm so opinionated, I though I might as well share my views on the forum. Enjøy! Before I start, I'd just like to share my philosophy about sidearms. A sidearm is just that, a secondary weapon. It should complete whatever other main weapon you have. In DayZ the main weapon is usually the one best suited to kill bandits, but because of noise it will probably attract a fair amount of Z aggro too, thus it's best avoided to use it when making a stand against Z. This is where the sidearm comes in handy. If it's relatively discrete, doesn't make too much noise, you'll stand a good chanse against most kinds of Z attack, simply because you attract less attention with a sidearm noise-wise, as compared to a main weapon. That is also why I prefer the underpowered sidearms over the more hard hitting ones, as none of them are particularly good against other players anyway. Anyway, here we go! Makarov I actually quite like this weapon, mostly because it's relatively quiet and because ammo is abundant. I wouldn't feel safe with it unless I already had a more powerful main weapon, though. When I carry it, it's main role is to rub out Z's indoors. Pro: Good weapon againt Z indoors It's common - most importantly, ammo is common It's not very noisy One shot in the head will kill a Z without alerting too many others Con: Poor at PvP Takes multiple shots to down a Z Even though it relatively quet, it still makes noise A G17 or M1911 is probably a better choice Score: 7 of 10 Glock 17 (a.k.a. G17) I prefer this one over the M9 because of abundance of ammo and the flashlight. Some call it a glorified Makarov, but then again, I don't really think the Makarov's too bad either. As with the Makarov, the main role of this weapon is as defence against Z, and as backup for a more powerful main weapon. Alround, I probably think this is one of the best sidearms in the game, when you factor inn rarity of ammo, and the neat flashlight. Pro: It's a good nighttime Z-buster because it has a flashlight (well, unless you have NV goggles) Ammo is relatively common, especially since you can also use M9 mags It can hold up to 17 rounds in the mag, which is great Fairly accurate and fast Con: Poor at PvP Takes multiple shots to down a Z An M1911 is probably a better choise, unless you want to stay a bit more quiet - or unless it's nighttime Score: 9 of 10 M1911 I think this is a good alround weapon, and I prefer it if I don't yet have a more powerful main weapon. However, I'll probably go for something less powerful if I already have a good main weapon, simply due to discretion. Pro: Only takes one shot to kill Plenty of ammo Fairly accurate, and good range OK at PvP Con: Loud, and thus it's not really suited to make a stand against Z's - unless you have plenty of ammo Score: 8 of 10 Revolver This is also a good alround weapon, but I only keep it if I don't yet have a main weapon. The reason is of course that it's too loud, yet it does pack a nice punch. Pro: Only takes one shot to kill Plenty of ammo Fairly accurate, and good range OK at PvP Con: Loud, and thus it's not really suited to defend against Z Slow too Minus one rounds per mag than the M1911 Score: 7 of 10 M9 I guess this is the sidearm I'd least desire, but if I had to use it, I would. I might even pick a Makarov over this one, simply because of abundance of ammo. Pro: Fairly accurate Con: Finding ammo's a bitch, although it also fires M9 SD rounds Poor at PvP Almost any other sidarm will have better advantages Score: 5 M9 SD (silenced) I haven't tried this one yet, but I have tried the MP5 SD, and albeit it is a great weapon to silently take out Z's, and also in the open, the rarity of ammo really lessens the longevity of these weapons. But of course, if I find one, I keep it! However I would keep a Makarov in the sack, just in case you run out of bullets. Pro: Silent, oh so silent Also good in the open, because it doesn't attract attention Con: Severly underpowered Not great at PvP unless you mangage both to get headshots, while at the same time keeping hidden Score: 7 PDW Haven't tried this one either, but from the charts it seems to be the most versatile sidearm yet, as it's both fast and silenced (if you get the right ammo), and because it can take so many different types of ammo. Pro: Silent, if you have the right ammo Fast Up to 30 rounds in the mag Takes many types of ammo OK against PvP because of its speed Con: Probably uses ammo equally fast Score: 9 Priority Here's my prioritized list: As support for a more powerful main weapon: Glock 17 M9 SD Makarov M9 - or really, I would never use the M9 Good enough on its own: PDW M1911 Revolver The only weapon I'd still keep even if I had a good main weapon, is the PDW, otherwise I'd go with the top list, as discretion is a must in this game. Oh, and don't forget, the hatchet is actually a pretty good weapon if you learn to use it (dropping main weapon, equipping hatchet, reloading, and hack away). ;)

    Sidearm review

Sad to hear that... Hope it's fixed! I kinda liked it when the sidearms had markedly different advantages.
  15. So I was just thinking... Let's say your goals are: Not engaging in PvP Avoiding attention from Z Making surviving easier Try to make some friends ...Then why pick up a gun, ever? Or rather, wouldn't it be more than enough with a hatchet? Or maybe the crossbow? Reason I ask is, well, SD rounds are short lived, and then you get sort of caught up in the game of looking for more ammo if you run out. Any other weapon attract way too much attention when fired. So, minding the points above, that leaves you with just the crossbow or hatchet as the only viable options. However, even though the crossbow is nice and quiet, it's slow and hard to aim, whereas you can just keep 'em coming with a hatchet - at least if you're positioned well. Also, if you have no gun, you're less likely to get KOS'd. Your thoughts?

    No bandit, no gun

This wasn't a suggestion to how the game should be. Only to how you can play it, if you want to. Shit, I know there are players out there who would shoot you on sight no matter how you're armed, or maybe even if you sat in a wheel chair. You can easily avoid other players for a long time by moving smart and tactically. And when you do decide to contact another player, you'd have to be smart about it anyway, like making sure you're behind cover and that you have a way to retreat. Still: A gun makes you a bigger threat to other players. The sound of it aggros more Zeds. So why pick up a gun in the first place? I see no need for it, unless you get easily bored. In that case, go right ahead. Nobody's stopping you. I'll think you're a coward, of course, but go right ahead. :D Personally I've had better luck making friends with a hatchet rather than with a gun. And a hatchet is honestly the best Zed defence I've ever found in the game. Reason? If I get stalked by Zeds, just run into a house, position yourself tactically, and chop away. You'll have Z casualties in the hundreds in no time, without ever having to worry about ammo. The Crossbow could be better, for instance if a decent quiver were available. As it is, I find it better to simply use a hatchet. Sure, there are times where it would be nice to kill off a Zed to get to a certain area quicker, but you can still distract them by other means. @Udak: I sure love your sneaky ways!
  17. I really liked the way it was solved in Deus Ex: Human Revolution. It's similar.

    Autogenerated maps

I love it. This would only affect local spawn points for loot, and not your globally persistent character. As it is, only helicopter crashes are random, am I right? Well, more things should be randomly placed. It would make the servers much more fun to explore.
  19. A few minutes at most. If it just keeps loading, I restart the game. The PC I use is monster-fast, so I expect efficiency.

Why can't we feast of human flesh?

Cannibalism: "Bored" bandits are now given a new incentive to joy-kill survivors, armed or not. Listen, in the total absence of other food, a human being might - might - consider cannibalism. It has happened. But it's the exception, not the rule. In Chernarus, there are multiple other food sources. The only thing keeping you from them is literally walking. If a world like this really existed, nobody would be that desperate - unless of course they were barking mad. Barking mad people does spawn on Earth from time to time, but even they are a rarity - even under extreme conditions. Rape, on the other hand, would be rampant. Rape for revenge. Rape for the lack of female company. Rape as a last solution to populate the world with real human beings again. But then again, how many females characters have you seen in this game anyway? And yeah, most of them carry a weapon, so that kind of narrows it down. And I happen to think that's completely fine. Well, men could be raped too, I guess, but then again, isn't the ability to kill them enough? What this game is lacking isn't more stuff to challenge our humanity. It's more stuff that help it thrive, as players are unrealisticly inhumane as it is. Many historical scenarios can be compared to this Zombie Holocaust, for instance Auswitch, hell even The Wild West, or how about The Dark Ages, or even the Antiquities? When times got tough back then, when there was absolutely NO backup, and you could only survive on your own, why didn't people go on raping rampages and eating human flesh then? Because we're human, that's why. Even my bloody ancestors, the Vikings, didn't kill needlessly. There was always a reason, like a blood revenge to be lawfully taken (usually after a trial had been held), or because the Irish monks were too eager to defend their church silver... Sure, trough out history people has gotten mad, and people both raped and killed each other, but there were always consequences. In this game there are none, but there should be.

My rant on why DayZ is getting worse

Who are you to criticize? That is a tu quoque argument and a logical fallacy. So Rocket is great. What has that got to do with the original argument? That is at best a straw man argument, and thus a logical fallacy. Again a straw man argument, and it is moot because those lucky few who does get to play with the secret developers, also get a say in how their games looks and behaves. You're basically saying don't criticize it because Rocket is great and we wouldn't have gotten this chance otherwise. Contrary to you, I believe criticism is vital to making the game better. But what I think is really not the point either. What the OP thinks is, and the fact that you from the beginning of this thread has simply brushed him off with one logical fallacy after another just started to annoy me, so that's why I'm now calling you out for it. You can bet all you want. It still takes two to tango. The fact is, without feedback Rocket would be nowhere, and the game would only be relevant to himself. Fortunately, Rocket is truly great - not because he's "God" - but because he takes constructive criticism seriously and reads forums posts like these for many hours a day. At least that's what he's said and written multiple times. That is my bet.

My rant on why DayZ is getting worse

I think it's perfect to start without a weapon. In fact it's one of the things I really love about the game. It tells you, "Be smart or die". It gave me the chills the first time I tried the game, and it still kinda turns me on. However, I do still think there's too much needless PvP. Yes, it's kinda the point, but on the other hand, there's too much grief as well. There needs to be found a way to level the field. Also, I do think the zombies act strange outside. I wish they'd just limp sluggishly in a horde, like they do in all the movies, only that they're smarter and try to flank you, or something. Instead, in this game, they sprint and stop, sprint and stop, and I think it's retarted - not to mention the loop-de-loop they do first, by first sprinting away before they start chasing you. Yes, the zombies should make it difficult to get directly to good loot, but come on, that's not difficult, that's just frustrating. Also, the amount of zombies in small towns should be tuned down drasticaly. It's just silly how many more zombies there are in small towns compared to big cities, and compared to the shitty loot you find in small towns.
