How do you avoid raging? (hack rant)
kebman replied to Fyre (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm a buddhist. I think that helps. Edit: Got camo suit, M107 with plenty of mags, loads of meds, blood packs, etc. Entered a remote town. Got shot by a ghillie clad dude when I came around a corner. He might have seen me earlier and done the right thing. He might be a hacker (how many get ghillie just like that anyway?) Either way, it doesn't matter. However, if that is what enrages you, then I cant help you. If you try to tell yourself that "Hey, it's just starting over" when you know it's really a lie, then I can't help you. It has to be something you really do not care about because you're fascinated with the game, and not the equipment. Sure, it took hours to get all that, but still I was just, like, "who cares?" It isn't like I've lost my life. All that has happened is that I've been teleported to the shore and lost my equpment. That isn't death. That's just starting over. In fact, the risk of death (i.e. the risk of teleportation) is the thing that makes the game so damn exciting. It's the reason I play the game, and the only thing that makes me rage are really Alt+F4-pussies. On another server I have (had) an M14, an FN FAL, loads of mags, meds and supplies. If I wanted to I could probably check that out. Or... I can just find the nearest helicopter crash or hunt the sniper hill for bandits. It really doesn't matter, and the thing that really counts is the excitement you get out of interacting with zeds and especially other players. Sometimes you win. Sometimes you loose. And having the best equipment often isn't the deciding factor. The deciding factor is your strategy, since also "low tier" weapons can be quite powerful and effective against other players. You don't need a AS50 to kill other players. An old Dinner Bell can be plenty. -
Wait, how would this stop legit players from entering these honeypots? Edit: Oh I get it now. Just have this terrible problem with low IQ.

Most embarrassing death I've had, share yours too, please =D.

So I'd been to town and gotten som goodies. Among these goodies was brand new binos. Once I came back up to the tree line, I thought the view was fantastic, and to celebrate, I took a closer loot trough my brand new binos. It was then I heard it. A smal twig cracking behind me. I thought nothing of it, untill I heard the loud crack of an M1911 at point blank range, and I instantly died. -

I'm a proffessional vintage bean cook. Also I'm a DJ. I'm into sneaking, hatchery and ABBA. Also, if I have to pay rent, I'll kill you. -
I saw a glitched dead player once. He was aiming right at me, so I shot him twice, but he didn't die. It got me so nerved out that I bugged out of there, but then I edged on back in again. Soon enough I realized that the player was indeed dead, and I took all of his gear - but he was just standing there, armes stretched out with his sidearm. Spooky as hell!

Best thing about .50 cal snipers!

Best thing about them is that they are n00bs that are easy to find because they camp. That's why I love camping a hatchiet in their camping skulls. :murder: -
Starting with/without a gun
kebman replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've said this countless times before... Starting without a weapon is one of the things I like best about DayZ. It brings a certain seriousness to the game, and it makes it so much more thrilling in the beginning. It makes tension run high, as you know that in order to get a weapon, you first have to sneak past those zeds. At the same time, it makes it easier to team up with another beginning survivor, while making you even more voulnerable to players with weapons. Again this adds to the thrill. The only thing I would like to be different is this: Please let us start with a west pouch instead of the assault pack. -
Zombies are most likely the biggest threat..
kebman replied to Jesters (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes I can. Just look at the looting Elektro vid from LivByTheGun on YT. You absolutely have to crouch, though. But you do not need to "prone all the time". If you have to do that, you're simply doing it wrong. -
I'm sorry to have to tell you, but this is a very bad idea. It's just too difficult and impractical to implement without risk of breaking the game. Modus operandi per now is: Choose server > Log into lobby > Log into game. Having a random server pop up just wouldn't work for DayZ - not currently, at least. Even though the server was random, obtaining the IP would be relatively easy for hackers. And then griefers could just inform of camps, campers and player locations to other griefers over VOIP. It would ruin the game. Edit: However I do like the idea of a helmet cam, but until they get radios to work in-game, that certainly won't work either.

Zombies are most likely the biggest threat..
kebman replied to Jesters (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I just don't think you're very good at avoiding zeds. Take a look at how Sacriel or LivByTheGun does it on YouTube. Google it. ;) -
I've played a lot of Skyrim. Loved it! It involves a lot of riding and walking, but less so than in DayZ. However, in DayZ you cannot be safe anywhere, so it's still exciting. Also, in DayZ, you are rewarded for using real world tactics when traveling from A to B. If you mind your silhuette, and you know what to look for, you'll become a hunter, and soon every kilometre you travel in DayZ becomes an adventure - albeit a very different one than in Skyrim. Be prepared for a steep and remorseless period of learning in the beginning, though. It's worth taking a look at how to move among zeds, as to not aggro them, and also worth taking a look at real military field tactics, lest you get shot by griefers above Elektro. I'd say, buy both! :D

I'm in "I don't give a shit" mode. I'm crossing the fields East of Mogilevka right in the open, and I don't give a damn. A few minutes earlier I'd lost all my equipment to a damned zed. A fucking ZED! It shouldn't even be possible, but it happened. I even found an FN FAL, but never used it because I could only find one mag. I curse my luck. Then I wow to myself, "If I ever find such a gun again, I'm fucking gonna use it!" Suddenly I hear shots from the village and my lust for life rushes back to me. I hunker down in the grass and make for the tree line. Somewhere accross that field is my cache of gear - my previous body. As I try to stay covered several thought run through my head. "Are there more players around? Have they found the body? Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit!" I run for it. The shots keep coming. They're muted. Maybe a Winnie? Or a Dinner Bell from inside? I have no idea. Once I get to the body, the shots have ceased. This makes me even more nervous, as - although it's beyond the slope down from the village and not far from cover - it's not actually in cover. I loot the body while wondering if he's gonna coming my way. While it's not the most direct route to popular Stary, it's a valid one if you want to stay away from contact. However, when two players think alike... I try to loot as quick as I can. It seems everything is there, including the FN FAL. I sigh with relief and think to myself, "I should really get the fuck out of here, but..." I then proceed to drop my Winnie and equip the FN FAL. I've decided. It's time to go hunting. I quickly get into cover, and peruse my map. I'm North East to Mog, down towards the rive valley with two ponds, but the best vantage point over the village is a wooded area directly North of the village. I decide it's safe to make a run for the tree line to my West, and then safely approach the vantage point throught the woods. Of course, if the other survivor chose to take the same route to Stary, I could expect contact sooner rather than later, but I took confidence in the likelyhood of having a much better weapon. I move as quick as I can, but stop well ahead of the village to scout. I carefully position myself in some bushes to take a look, and soon I discover that it's dotted with little zeds, and it's not easy to know exactly where my foe is. Suddenly I see something in the corner of my eye. A zed runs towards a pile of rubbish, so I concentrate my attention to that area. And wouldn't you know! A few seconds later I see a survivor sprinting right accross the field with at least three zeds after him. Time is running out. He's getting closer and closer to that tree line down in the valley. I knew I'd loose him then, but then again, fireing from the current position is less than ideal. But he is slipping away from me, and I have no urge to chase him knowing he'd have cover down in the valley, so I decide to give it a shot - literally. I try to line him up and lead him a little, then I slowly pull the trigger. BAM! I'm surpriced at the sound my FAL makes. It's awesome. But I miss, so I try to lead him some more. BAM! This time he falls, or maybe he went prone? I seriously don't know, because at that very moment he hits the tree line and disappeares. I'm pretty sure he didn't disconnect, but not a 100 percent. In any case, I'm now left with a few options. I can either retreat, and mark it up as a waste of bullets, or take up the hunt. I decide to do the latter, but in lieu of doing the former... I carefully move backwards from his position until I feel safe. Then I take a big U-turn around a little hill between me and him, coming out further North above the road running along it. I know he's hiding in the small and wooded river valley, just down the slope of grassy fields. However, in front of it, is that damned asphalt road, so no matter where I position myself, I can't get a view into it. On the bright side, the road does provide a little cover, being on the high ground. I take a long look at the road, weighing my alternatives. Again angstfull thoughts run through my head. "Did he run away? Or has he tracked back? What if he's tracked so far back that he takes me in the ass?" The clock is ticking, so I decide to make a run for it and sprint over the road and prone just before the decline into the valley, next to some bushes. I still can't see shit. I scan the area as carefully I can while trying to look for better cover. While the road provide good cover from anything in the valley, it does not provide much cover at all were he above me. Suddenly I see movement from behind. Just as I've feared the guy has back-tracked further than I expected. He must have sprinted, and I just saw a shadow jump into some pine trees next to the road fork a few hundred metres further West. And sure enough, I soon spot him crawling away from me and into the pines. Or was he coming towards me? I'm sure he must have seen me, otherwise there wouldn't be any need to try to stalk me like that. The conditions are less than ideal. He's prone and partly in cover while I've got nearly no cover at all. I can't really see if he's moving to me or away from me, but I do see his ALICE pack sticking up from the ground. It's bobbing slightly from the movement he's making. I think he's going slow as to not arouse suspicion. I have to do something. While moving backwards trying to get better cover in the decline into the valley, I also try to line up a shot. I soon decide it's futile to try to do two things at the same time, so I stop and concentrate soully on aiming. BAM! I'm not sure if I hit, but the shot sure made him move much faster. Before I get a chance to think he swirls around and I hear the crack of his gun. "Oh, shit, he just shot at me!" I blurt. In dangerous situations I usually freeze, but this time I remain strangely cool. I don't hear any bullets landing near me, so I decide to line up another shot. Before I get the chance, another bullet leaves his barrel. "SMACK!" it says. The sound reminds me of a twig being snapped in half. I've got him in my sights now, staring right into his. I breathe and gently squeese the trigger. BAM! Suddenly everything goes quiet. I hurry into cover, but hear no more shots. A few seconds later a kill message pops up on my screen, and I see my humanity has shrunken by about 2000 points. I just can't help myself from clenching my fists and loudly yelling "YESS!" In hindsight, I guess it's ironic to be so elated about loosing humanity... Anyway, I then proceed to jog along the bottom of the ridge towards the trees he was trying to hid in. While the poor sod did have an ALICE pack, he didn't have much else that I needed. I took some mags, and some of his survival gear, knives, maps, and that sort of stuff. The rest, including his Lee Enfield, I just left there. Soon the flies come and I leave him there to rot. I forgot to check, but I think the victim was Jareski. This post is for you. It's the most thrilling time I've had in the mod thus far. Thank you! The route: Note: The route taken is an approximation only.

How do so many ppl have snipers and top guns?
kebman replied to TheMove's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Found an FN FAL and an M14 at a heli crash yesterday. Three mags for each. Then I found some more DMR mags in a deer stand. Just before that, I had a DMR I found in a tent. Got killed an lost it. Fifteen minutes later, I find the FN FAL and M14. :D EDIT: Next day I find an M107, and the next day two more FN FALs and another M107... -
The military back packs have camo and are harder to spot.

Are there more then murders that decrease humanity? On one server it went down to 300, and gradually it came up to my regular 2000. I don't get that. Because of the awful skin, I don't want to shoot other players. Yet I think it's great that the game designers have made you think twice about killing somebody - however I'm sure it can be done in another way than a bandit skin. Also, I do not like the idea of a hero skin. It's a stupid idea all together. Here are the skins I want in the game: Camo clothing Ghillie suit Other clothing that kan be helpful Bandit, survivor and hero are de facto classes in DayZ, and since I'm against classes in DayZ, I'm also against a solution like that.

Bullet registry = Zero close combat in DayZ
kebman replied to CerebralZombie (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Spray and pray vs. semi automatic fire: In the full episode, semi pawnes spray and pray hard. It will also do this IRL, and thus also in DayZ. Conclusion: Don't spray and pray. Instead, aim your rifle, fire, check your target, then fire again if he's still not dead. -
The zeds in DayZ are not that hard to avoid, once you know how. Demanding that they should be nerfed is just your knee jerk demand for your own poor way of handling them. Yes, they can be a challenge, but it's part of the game and that's why I keep playing. If you think they're too hard, just play on a server with "regular" setting. The zeds are much easier there. If they still get you, then you just need to learn how to avoid them. Google LivByTheGun or Sacriel and see their introductions to DayZ. Or just google "How to avoid zombies in DayZ". Hell, I'll even give you some tips: Avoid Zeds by moving crouched and by always having walls or fences neaby. If you aggro, stay crouched, but move out of the line of sight of the zed. Only run when you have no choice. If they're after you, run towards a line of bushes. Zig-zag in a sleek S between them, until you can't hear them anymore, then go prone and go in a different direction. Also, run through two-entry houses. They slow down inside. Once outside, crouch and head in a new direction. Main hint: Break their line if sight, and you'll get away. Good players seldom, if ever, need to kill zeds.

Being your opponent, I think you should go for a Double Barrel and a Makarov. :P The best combo is whatever weapon you can find while trying to survive. You should try it! The best combo in a squad, is dependent on your role, thus they are the ones you should ask for "best combo". I think you're lucky, but I also think your clan is clueless if they don't have a clear plan for you. Real world tactical movement works in DayZ as it's built upon a military simulator, thus it isn't a "must" to be a sniper. In fact, it will proably get you killed faster if you don't know what you're doing. Also I think it is lame to just be given an L85 withouth first earning it in-game, but then again this game is meant to be both unfair and unforgiving.

DE 1530 - Family talking - turn off your mic !
kebman replied to gambla's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Nope, but I constantly have the problem when playing online on Playstation 3. It annoys the hell out of me. If it happened to me on DayZ I would just switch server - even if playing on a team. I'd just tell them the thing was annoying the hell out of me and invite them to join another server. On the other hand, have you consideret turning on your mic and politely tell him to shut the fuck up? -
What is the best sidearm to you?
kebman replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As long as ammo isn't a hindrance, the M9SD is the best. However, considering how scarce ammo is for it, I'd probably not pick it up at all, or I might pick it up, but then simply discard it once I run out of ammo. Otherwise I favour the low noise weapons, like the super-humble Makarov, as I mainly use my sidearm to kill zeds with headshots. However, now that the sidearms are so heavily nerfed, I'm actually beginning to like the M1911 again, as it takes less bullets to the body to kill a zed in a crisis situation a.k.a. a situation where you're cornered and do not have the time to aim for the head. This has saved my life once or twice. On the other hand, if I don't yet have a main weapon, I tend to stick with my hatchet, as I consider it the safest zed defence in the game. After all, main weapons are mostly for defence against other players anyway, and none of them are really good against zed, except maybe for the MP5SD. The PDW is the only sidearm with player defence capability, IMO. Also, ammo is relatively plentyful. Once you have it, you have the option to drop your MP5 and instead look for a better main weapon, as the MP5 is only a glorified PDW anyway. Sure, it's not as good, but once you carry a better main weapon, and consider that it's like having a "mini-MP5" in your sidearm slot, that argument is moot. -
I like it! I continually find that equipment do not spawn on locations close to my spawn. I like it because it means that players cannot just server hop to get better gear. What it means is that I have to go further to get gear. However, if most of the spawns you visit do not have any equipment, then yes, it's plain old bad luck. Sometimes this also happens to me, but I do not let it bother me, and rather just keep on hunting. Last nigth I found a DMR, and a few days before I found an FN FAL in a heli crash. Between those were a lot of no-loot spawns. Deal with it.
-
I disagree. What about vehicles, then? Tents are a boon for better players. It makes loosing top tier equipment less painful. Also it gives better players the freedom to dare to experiment more in-game, without fear of loosing it all. Even further, it makes it much easier for teams to cooperate by setting up camps. Without tents, there wouldn't be much point in having a camp or even team up. Again this makes the game much more interresting Also, there's always a chance lower tier players can find a tent by chance. In fact, once I adopted a more tactical gameplay, and started understanding the mechanics of "the hunt" I also started to find a lot more tents. It also made the game more fun, as I could investigate the trail of better players, and maybe even hunt down bandits. Without any such clues, the game would be boring, and I might as well play COD. Without clues, there is no hunt.

You have good gear, are you a bandit???
kebman replied to Dylon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't KOS because the bandit skin is so ugly. Also, I want the hero skin, however, it is made so that you'll have to be in a team for it to work, and it's a lot of work to get it done. A hero should be allowed to be a lone wolf too. Conclusion: It's too easy to become a bandit. It's too hard to mend banditry with good deeds, thus once a bandit, always a bandit. Bandit skin promotes a KOS playstyle. Once you're there, why try so hard to go the other way? Ugly bandit skin makes you think twice about KOS in the beginning, but only then. In fact, having anything called a bandit, a survivor or a hero are de facto classes in DayZ - the very thing so many have dreaded... Isn't there another way to prevent needless griefing? I realize I've been answering a bit off topic. When I have good gear, I do get more suspicious, however, with tents I'm allowed to stash my most precious gear so that I'll get geared back up fast if I get shot, thus getting killed isn's such a big deal anymore, except for the walking... So, if I have a tent up, I'll dare to experiment more. However, the worst thing for me about getting killed, isn't really all that fancy gear - it's not having used that fancy gear. Most of the gear, I get to use, like maps, knives, matches, and so on. However, that over powered rifle with only one magazine for... If I die before having gotten to use it, I'm sad, very sad. Thus having a fancy rifle promotes banditry again. Having a fancy rifle does not instill fear in that people back off. It instills fear in that they KOS when they see someone armed to the teeth. As a bearer of fancy rifles, these are social mechanics that you have to factor in, and thus you get liable to KOS more often. However, unless you're a cheater, if you have a fancy rifle, you most likely know how to handle yourself in the game. Thus you can easily avoid the situations where KOS often happens. In fact, if you know how to handle yourself, KOS isn't really the issue, but premeditated murder is.
