No gun? No Problem! Guide on how to get around with no zombie problems!
kebman replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
Loosing zeds is all about cutting their line of sight. Do this by: Zig-zagging gently past a few trees, then crouch and go in a new direction. Zig-zagging gently past a few walls and houses, then crouch and go in a new direction. You can also go trough buildings with two entries, then crouch and go in a new direction. Hell, if you hide in a corner inside, usually any zed will leave you alone and just go away. The real trick is not gettin their attention in the first place, especially while in a city. Move crouched, zig-zag around corners, always use the look feature, and be careful about zeds with their body towards you. Go prone if you must (but prepare to quickly get up if you still get aggro). If you get a lot of aggro, or it's a long way to safety, run a few yards to the next corner, then crouch and go in a new direction - or further into safety. Boom, problem with zeds gone. -

Ooooh, I want that Carebear flack jacket! Gief! -
Oops, got them again, despite having a fix... Hitting [L Shift]+[Numpad -] and typing "flush" two or three times usually does the trick, though. But it sure can be a bit too exciting when in a heavily zed-infested area...

I don't get it. I love the game, despite some hacking. Jeez! It's just a game. :D Well, a game where you spend hours hoarding stuff, only to get killed an loose it. Well, shit happens. I try to plan for dieing, for instance by getting tents before I try getting a vehicle. In the end, you're gonna die, one way or another. Yes, hackers are sad people, and I cannot believe it's so many of them. Why, and what for? I don't get it. If they want to cheat, why not go to the cheat server sandbox, and hack away. It's not cool destroying for others. But I guess these people feels a need to be superior - probably for a lack of it in real life. Anyway, it's not enough to ruin my game experience.
-
Nothing. That was my point.
-
I spawn at my camp. Almost immediately a chopper comes and hovers over my position. I hide in the bushes. Mabye he saw the tent. Dunno. Then he sees me and start shooting. He misses as I'm behind some shrubbery. I shoot back, several shots. Hit. The chopper leaves, probably lands. I hear more shooting, so I get on my bike and leave. In front of me a bandit appears from nowhere, and shoots me in the back. --- Before I saw lots of vehicles piled on the field over Elektro, even boats. I'm not sure what's going on on DE 1144, but I'm not entirely sure it's legit.

Campfire does or does not help with temperature problem?
kebman replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
You can light fires inside building, at least barns and storage houses. I've frequently done this to get my heat back up. Also I like starting fires at random locations on night servers. Hehe. Hehehehe. Heeee heeee heeee heeeeee! -
It's a conspiracy by the Merchants of Death. By introducing it, you're also supporting it IRL! :murder:

Great idea!

Makes sense! Great post!

For some reason I ended up in Elektro. Maybe i was looking for that homely feeling. Maybe I just wanted the feeling of small town shopping before the shit hit the fan. Nah! I just came from Cherno where I lobbed a 'nade at someone who thought he could shoot me. Sounded like automatic fire, possibly an M16. I dodged it and went into the brick wall jungle. Stayed there for a while after after the dust settled, trying to make contact, but I neither saw or heard anyone. A 'nade has that effect on people... So since it amounted to nothing, I headed further East. That was the real reason. I wasn't really looking for trouble, as much as I was looking for excitement. I wasn't really going to Elektro either. My stop was further away, but as long as I went past it, I thought I might as well stock up on a few items. The place was deserted, except for some eerie bodies in the street. It looked like there had been a war there. A body was sprawled in front of the office building. Another inside. They both had all their equipment intact. Flies buzzing all around. I remember thinking to myself, "WTF happened here?" In the middle of the street was another body. This one a bandit, face down. He also had his equipment intact, but I had no interest in any of it. Next to him was an unusable bike, probably shot to pieces during the battle. The feeling of foreboding slowly crept into me. When I tried for the bar, I really jumped when I turned the corner to go up the stairs. A bandit was laying there all mangled, staring straight at me with his dead eyes. All these dead bodies in such close proximity to each other was giving me the willies. Then I noticed something out of the window of the flat. All over the hill above the store, vehicles were strewn. ATV's, bikes, motorbikes - even boats! Again I go, "WTF!" and I think to myself that something crazy must have gone down here. After pondering wether it was a trap, I finally got on my way to check it out. I pass over the street to the store first, just to be safe. That is when I see him. He's running straight for me with a train of zeds after him. I'm not prepared at all. I'm standing in the middle of the street, and it seems like he's headed straight for cover. Got no time to think. It's pretty clear he's got some kind of semi automatic weapon, so I just lift my CZ 550 hunting rifle to my shoulders, take aim, and fire when I see him lined up in my cross hairs. I only get off a single shot in his direction. He immediately dodges it and veers to my left and fires off a few paniced shots in my direction before moving on. I don't know if I might have wounded him, but despite having an inferiour weapon I take up the hunt, running parallel with a block of houses between us. At any time I could run right into him, and with a hunting rifle I'd be sorely outgunned, so I stop for a moment to pull out my revolver. Not like that would help much against his weapon, but it was better than nothing. Once I got out on the other side I couldn't see anything. But then I hear a sound over at the church, so I head over there. And there he was! He spots me too, and goes prone behind some rubble, but it doesn't help as I'm too close. For some reason he does not get time to fire his weapon. Instead of waiting for him, I take aim and fire three shots at him while charging. The first shot must have hit him in the head, because he immedately goes limp on the church floor. Sacrilege... When I get up to him, blood is still slowly pumping out his forehead. I check out his loot and I see he's got an M16 and lots of ammo. Apparently this was no noob. His dog tags say "Hankatten97". After I've calmed down a bit, and placed a ceremonial soda can at his head, I head up to the car pool. There I grab a bike and head on North. Ring, ring! Illustration paths are approximations only.

Hero achieved, wearing ghillie suit
kebman replied to Anarchyihdi's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Don't get attached to your stuff, dude. One day you'll die. Accept it. However, no need doing someting stupid. Give your gear to your friend and let him guard it. Or even better, find a tent, set it up in a remote place. Do your stuff and come back to it. You can also do the same with a car. Stor your stuff in it, save it, and do your stuff. Also, if you've got one of those neat backpacks, remember to take it off before you change your clothes, lest you risk loosing all your packed belongings because of a bug. -
I really like the idea. It's got nothing to do with "butthurt", only to enhance the game for both factions. Anyway, "butthurt" is only a straw man argument, and thus not valid. Please answer on topic. You too, "hero". Good things with this system: Survivors get some more time getting their co-op going, and bandits gets more time getting their KOS going. It evens out the odds before they meet on the middle. Only thing I'm against is rewarding humanity for killing bandits.

The petition to keep DayZ HARDCORE (standalone)
kebman replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
@OP: Could you please be more spesific? I think the zeds have been buffed. It seems they see you from further away now. Before they provided enough danger to make it exciting to sneak into villages, but now they're just annoying. When they notice you from over 150 metres away, it's not cool anymore. Otherwise, I think the game is "hardcore" enough. You need to learn to move tactically to remain unnoticed. You can't do stupid stuff like walking directly over open fields. You have to make clever use of cover. If someone want's an easier version, then make an easier version. Make it an option. There should be options. If you only want hardcore, then go play hardcore. Nobody's forcing you to play softcore. Even now there are servers ranging from N00b to regular to vet to expert. Seems to me like the real hardcore servers are the expert ones. How many of them have you played on? If you want it so hardcore, why don't you just play without ever touching an NVG or AS50? -
When you Alt+F4 the PC continues running?

I disagree. I think the game is playable, despite hackers. I've been hacked two or three times. I don't know about you, but that's too little to bother me.

Sad story. I kind of like the monster of Green Mountain. That's cool hacking. Thunderdome, or teleporting to death; not so cool. -
I have to choose between a bike and a motorbike
kebman replied to chris p. bacon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Not really sure. A motorbike is faster and you can store five stuffs. A bike is silent, but you do not need gasoline. One gets you into trouble faster, by 1) you having to get gas, and 2) it makes noise. The other is slow, especially up-hill, but it's very easily hidden. -
How did you kill your first victim?
kebman replied to PeRFeCt_SHoT13's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
First kill: I was at the top of Zub. Suddenly a surviver spawns behind me at the top of the tower. Seems he's looking at me for a while with his silenced MP5. I, too, looked back at him. It was probably only for about half a second, but it seemed like minutes. I remember a rush of thoughts coming into my mind. "Is he friendly? Is he writing something?" Instead of finding out, I lobbed my shotgun into his face and pulled the trigger. One shot didn't seem to be enough, so I shot again. He fell, and immediately another surviver spawned next to him. To say the least, I was perplexed. The other guy also looked a bit perplexed seeing his friend bleeding out right in front of him. So I just lobbed the pipe in his general direction and pulled the trigger again. This time I didn't hit so well, and nicked him in the chest. While squirting blood all over the place, he went for the stairs. Meanwhile, I was insecure if the dude I first shot might wake up, so I decided to stay instead of pursuing the second spawn. He was unarmed anyway, so I guess it was OK to let him get away. Pretty sure he DC'd moments later. And that's how I got to try the MP5 SD for the first time. -
Hi, I teach video production. I'm going to be extremely harsh, so brace yourself. Video tech: Your film uses way too much time on the intro. Also, you could easily shave off a lot of the time used to illustrate each thing. It will make the film much easier and fun to watch. Using nearly ten minutes to explain... 1) find closest barn or factory, 2) supermarket for ALICE and map, 3) firestations for AK or M4, and 4) then loot heli crashes before you 5) go to NWA ... is just a waste of everyones time. Also: You should illustrate where, and in what buildings, you can expect to find the items. You should also explain why and how a compass is useful to explain where enemies are firing from. In fact, there exist military tactics to explain enemy movement and contact efficiently. A tutorial on this would be nice. Sacriel is good at this, for instance. This video should be called "Become A Rich Mofo on Loot" instead of "Become A Killing Machine". Your video is all about finding loot, but there is no useful tactical advice on how to track, hunt and kill other players - the reason why I watched the whole thing in the first place. You do certainly not become a killing machine just by having a lot of loot. More likely you just become a fatter n00b target. So in your next vid, please explain more about how to track and hunt your target, instead of how to find loot. End of editing tech. --- On to DayZ tech: Whenever you enter a building, except if it's in the woods, chances are good that you will find filled soda cans. Thus you only need to carry one or two. The water canteen is good when in the woods, but of these you also only need one or two. If I have a canteen or two, I usually don't bother picking up soda cans at all. I just drink them whenever I find them, and move on. Then I have the canteen as backup, for that one time when I'm shit out of luck. It buys me time to get into a building or find a water source. The only time I stock up on food and drink is before a sniping session where you need to lay prone for quite a while. A watch is indeed very much needed as you can use it for navigation during the day. Google "navigating with watch". Also, it's good to know that it gets darker until about eight in the evening, and that it gets lighter until roughly 4.30 in the morning. A compass is extremely useful both if you're alone or you play with a team. I can't understand why you claim it is not needed. It makes navigation so much simpler. Matches and knive without a hatchet makes it much harder to find fire wood. Sure, binos are self explanatory, but binos can also be the death of you if you use them incorrectly in the game. Whenever you crouch and use them in the open, you become a sitting duck. N00bs often make that mistake. Thus take care that you're hidden and in cover before using them. Using first person and heading into a bush is a good way to make sure you're well hidden. How many morphine you need, heavily depends on what you want to do. For city looting, you probably only need one, as there will be hospitals close. If you're a medic, or you're going to a dangerous place far from a hospital, you'll probably need a few more, but I usually stop at three, as the likelyhood of breaking a leg and fixing it three times in a row without dieing is at best remote. If you've got hunting equipment you don't really need blood bags unless you're with friends, as meat is good enough. Blood bags are for a crisis only, or when you're in a hurry. Not all server have waypoints activated. You don't have to kill all the zeds at heli crashes. If you do it right, you do not have to kill any of them. Bonus: Less chance a bandit will discover you. Last but not least, many of the low tier gun will be more than enough to hunt other survivors and bandits, if you just learn some basic military tac first. Awsome biking, though!

If you are 'good' at something... professions & teamwork
kebman replied to L0G!N (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I'm afraid it would make the game impossible to play solo. Then it would not be interresting for me anymore. Also I do not want the restriction to having to have a medical pouch to carry medical equipment. I'll carry my medical equipment any way I damn well please - because I cannot afford fancy pantsy medical Gucci pouches for medical stuff when I'm trying to survive. On the other hand, I'd love to start with a smaller pack - thus making startup more challenging - and maybe make the packs more dynamical when it comes to storing stuff. After all, a box of matches does not take up one slot in my backpack IRL. More likely it goes into one of the pockets in my pants. Having this fixed would be great. -
I just don't see the problem. I think the game is top fun, and better than anything else around. Would love objectives, would love, I dunno, stuff. But thus far I'm content that it's just an alpha, and the fact that I can progress further faster each time I learn something new. Haven't had much problems with the hackers, and I hear they're dwindeling anyway, so as far as the game dieing, I would think such happy news could bring back some players. Also, it's autumn and people got stuff to do. It's only natural that the game sees a dip. As far as the game dieing - don't bet on it.

I used this fix for nVidia: Successful Graphics Glitch Fix for nVidia GPU Users and Possible ATI Fix ...and it worked for me.
-
Starting without a gun is part of the charm of the game. It's a game feature and you probably won't find any servers that support in - not on the official grid anyway. The reasons for not having a gun at start-up are many: It makes it impossible to KOS fresh spawns, which was a problem when you started with a gun. It promotes cooperation between fresh spawns. Also it promotes seriousness and makes the game mutch more thrilling, as you know that the only way to get supplies is sneak past the zeds and get into a house.
