This guy seemed to have a similar problem and solved the issue by running a RamDisk with the DayZ files. Link ->

20 words or less: Super-Low Humanity Detection
mogwaihawk replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
YES! Additional ideas: - sound appears even if you don't look at them directly - bigger radius (like 50 meters or more) - some sound that blends in with the general sound you get from your surrounding - volume increasing depending on how near the bandit is -> 50 - 30 meters you can't actually hear it but on an subconscious level you notice it and start to feel unsafe -
It seems like a lot of you (including me) have pretty major FPS drops in cities, to the point where the game isn't playable anymore. I fiddled around with the ingame settings + resolution and was surprised that regardless of what settings I chose, I could not get the game to run above 30 fps. The only setting that really had an great impact on my FPS was "Object Detail", hence setting it to "very low" gave me a decent amount of additional frames. I also tried several startup parameters and increasing the priority of the task but nothing really gave me a big boost in performance. Now here is the trick: You can decrease Object Detail even further by editing your Arma II profile. In order to do that you have to search for a file on your computer named "<username>.ArmA2OAProfile". It should be located in your "My Documents" folder. Open that with an text editor and scroll down to the bottom. Search for "sceneComplexity" and change the value to something below 150k, because 150k seems to be the value of "very low" ingame. Decreasing this number had a great effect on my fps. I am not a 100 percent sure what this number represents but I think the higher the number is the more objects in your surrounding are displayed. Changing it to 1000 gives me 40+ fps in Cherno but there are only 20-30 buildings loaded around me. :) Edit: So apparently sceneComplexity represents the max number of polygons that are rendered. By decreasing this number the engine will use a lower polygon model for an object and if necessary it will skip rendering objects that are far away. More info on that -> http://forums.bistud...rated-setting-! (thanks to Rogan!) I have only tested this while standing in the middle of Cherno, I did not actually play so there might be a few major issues with this that I did not experience. Feedback and other solutions are welcome.

For those who are really desperate for more FPS in big cities, here is a temporary solution: The main problem in cities is that there are a lot of objects that need to be loaded. Decreasing "Object Detail" in-game has a great effect on FPS. If "very low" is still not enough you can go to your Arma II profile and decrease it even further. You can find it on your system under the name "<username>.ArmA2OAProfile". Open that with a text editor and scroll down to the bottom. Search "sceneComplexity" and change the value to whatever you want. 150k represents "very low" in-game so you want to choose something below that. If you decrease that number then there are less objects being loaded in your surrounding, hence you get better FPS. I tried 1000 which gave me about 40 fps in Cherno but there were only 20 - 30 buildings loaded around me. This is at least SOME way to solve the issue.
