  1. Seriously because reading half these posts there is some classic fedora connoisseurs about. Main thing I'm fed up of at the moment is hearing peoples hollow boasting. Anyone have any stories not about taking hostages to steal their pants/feed disinfectant or how they would be a total badass in a real apocalypse?

    I want to help others

I play like this at the moment few things I recommend: Don't openly carry a gun Carry an axe on your back Always try to see them first Announce yourself from a safe location which will allow you to retreat with some degree of safety Cache your good gear in a bag before approaching anyone. Carry only medical and food supplies on your person Don't approach groups Let people who you are treating medically what you are doing or they will kill you in the belief you are handcuffing/robbing them Don't trust people even after you have helped them Do not dress in a threatening or high end gear If things go south run or put them down Ideally a friend concealed a short ways away with a rifle is they way to go The first towns away from the coast are good places to find people who need help but who aren't helpless When you spawn and have nothing to lose loot the hospitals, people don't seem to value them ATM You will still likely get shot a few times but if you make it clear you are sorted for medical supplies so who cares Finally learn how the medical stuff works so you can actually help people, unless you just plan on giving out food water and compliments. A few times now people I have saved have gone on to save or in one case avenge me, there's hope for waste yet. Good luck man it's fun meeting people helping the friendlies and outwitting the bandits and if you die you don't really lose much because you don't need good gear for this play style.
  3. Hi everyone, just wondering if there are any players who play 12:00 - 14:00 sort of times GMT. I did play this a lot more at first but now I am mainly playing during my lunch break at work and it makes it hard to find anyone to team up with. At the time of writing I am up at the NE airfield pretty well equipped after losing all my stuff to hackers. Wouldn't be until the new year but I thought I would give the topic some time for responses, so anyone interested? I am not a bandit, I try to help individuals and avoid groups but am not averse to fighting people who deserve shooting. Also I don't hide around in forests I go from town to town mainly. Anyways let me know.

    The Axemen Cometh!

Most is ripped straight out of existing religions but with Axe put in there for good measure. Also the Prophet wouldn't be the same prophet who killed me with an axe and looted my corpse would he? Not so holy there buddy. Only reason I ask is because when I went back to get my stuff my bag and inventory was just crammed full of axes. Also this guy he an axeman? http://www.twitch.tv/justxrippedn1ck/b/327671117

    Add a separate melee slot?

Just seen this was suggested by Tricky here http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/51628-axe-in-pistol-slot/

    Add a separate melee slot?

Melee could be changed to a sidearm (saves messing with the inventory system so much) so you can have primary and a melee or primary and a sidearm, hatchet is good for sneaking into areas on the edge of town with loads of zombies like zelenogorsk supermarket but I hardly bother because its such a pain to switch out. Would do if it was in place of my sidearm though. Hacking one zombie that stands in your path to death is worth the risk if it saves attracting the rest of the horde.
  9. In the UK they make you collect empty brass after training they sure as hell don't treat magazines as disposable. I think most armies would agree that if it is possible to keep any equipment that can be reused without increasing the risk to yourself or those around you, then you should. Mag dump pouches exist for a reason after all. I like the idea though it would also be good if you have fired half of one mag and half of another, this would allow you to make up one full mag and save reloading at a bad time.

    The Writing on the Wall

I think Minecraft has a system that vets the text before it is allowed to be posted on signs, map dicks are the least of your worries when there are people trying to knock you unconscious and smoke grenade your limp form. This whole game is about people making their own stories though and the natural progression of making stories is recording them you can see here on the forums people recruiting and bragging, half of the posts on here look like a lonely hearts column, "bandit groups seeks inexperienced players for short walks on the beach" all this would be doing would be taking this and keeping in within the diegesis.

    The Writing on the Wall

I know first of this could be abused horribly but the ability to write text onto walls or signs would be nice I know there would be lewd drawings all over Cherno but for all those budding DayZ entrepreneurs out there you would be able to mark your venture. 'Come to Elektro to trade'. Bandits could set traps ' 'Come to Elektro to trade' and survivors could give warnings 'Come to Elektro to trade' ---> 'Don't it's a trap'. Think Left 4 Dead but instead of pre written text it's players making their mark on the server. Also still looking forward to radios so someone can set up Radio Cherno.

    Non group survivors.

Yeah I do sometimes resort to hiding in the woods eating pigs and drinking pond water when I get hurt and have no meds, I guess what I am doing is just drifting around I pick something on the horizon that looks interesting and then make my way to it and try not to die, if I see people I try to watch them and decide if they will kill me, because this is so hard to determine I rarely make contact although sometimes by accident or in unavoidable circumstances it can't be helped. Ceaseless wandering means I know a lot of the map by now from memory and the only objective is the things on the horizon or when a need occurs food, ammo water etc. I'm like a post apocalypse hobo. When you play do you have set objectives in your mind? or do you just wander around looking for stuff, people encounters?

When is it acceptable to shoot first?

I tried some elaborate glow stick stuff at night once, told the guy to break out a glow stick or flare then move over to the one I had thrown on the ground or else I would shoot. He did it and everything was cool but when he did pull a gun and try to shoot me I threw glow sticks at his face instead of shooting and died seconds later. In future I will double check that I have re-equipped my rifle but otherwise the cyalume gate system seemed to be good.

Box have you ever successfully held an area for a long time I remember watching the whole fort friendly thing unfold. I guess though it's true all I am achieving is my own survival. Maybe I'll look and see if there are any cool sounding group things Fort Friendly and the Trading post guys have the right idea about groups I think just needs some work on the whole not getting massacred by bandits front.

    Non group survivors.

I'm not sure about that I have only ever got 2 non bandit kills i.e murders and both of them I felt pretty bad about one was when I was bleeding to death and stumbled in on someone and was worried I would pass out there and then in front of them the other I spoke of in a post early on and was petty revenge. Bandits I have met tend to engage from range and are pretty bad at hitting someone who is trying to avoid it or they follow you and wait until you stop which isn't too bad if you keep checking your trail or do occasional snap ambushes. It's not that I'm adverse to killing or even bad at it, It's just not the way I want to play.
