Ah, okay. I did notice that sometimes when I restart my local hive server, the vehicles don't spawn and sometimes they do. This is the same bug, no?

So I have downloaded the 95883 update twice, manually installed it four times, deleted the beta folder in Arma 2 OA twice and installed it, installed it through Six launcher and installed it through DayZ Commander (both of which say that my version is up to date: 95883). When I run the game, the menu screen says 95417 and servers are rejecting my connection because I am not running version 95417. DFUQ?

So I'm driving a GAZ at 102 kmh west of Elektro. A sniper shoots me. ME, not the car, ME. I'm bleeding and in shock, but otherwise okay. I start swerving erratically, still going at 102 kmh. Another shot, hits me again. Another shot, hits me again. The car is still in perfect condition, but I am now dead. Three shots within about 10 seconds and they all hit ME. That is either some INSANE level of skill with a rifle or someone's hacking. Thoughts? -

Aha! I copied the two exes into the arma 2 oa folder and that seems to have done the trick. FINALLY. Thank you. -

Oh, and not to mention that I just joined a server and I was somehow now inside a building. Like, literally inside the walls. I try to get out and I get squashed and instantly killed. Fucken fantastic. -

So in this situation, it would be saying that it's 95417 but it's actually 95883 and servers running 95883 would accept your join request, right? Cos that's exactly what is not happening for me. I cannot join any server running 95883 but I can join servers running 95417. -

Just deleted my beta folder and ran DayZ commander. It downloaded and installed 95883 yet again and I run the game and it's STILL 95417. This is truly bizzare. Am I going to have to uninstall Arma2 and reinstall everything from scratch? -

I don't think the main issue is how light or dark it is at night, I think the way you see at night should be more realistic. You have two types of light receptor cells on your retina. One type (cones) sees all colours but can't see in low light, and the other (rods) can see in low light but only in shades of blue. You have a strong concentration of cones in the centre of your eye, allowing for great accuracy and detail in the centre of your vision. The rods are most prevalent just around this central point and are completely absent from the centre of your retina. This means that at night, everything appears blue and fuzzy and you basically cannot see anything you look directly at. This is what I think it should look like at night in DayZ; fuzzy, blue and blank in the centre.

Yet another idea to encourage people to work together

This is actually a combination of a couple of ideas that have already been suggested with a few other ideas of my own: Optional co-spawn: When spawning, have the option of indicating how many other people you would like to spawn with. You are then held in "limbo" but with the opportunity to chat with others until there are enough people with the same spawn number selected and then you all spawn in the same place. You should be able to change this number at any time so you're not stuck waiting. The rationale behind this is so that you can decide to be a lone wolf or spawn with other people and team up. At the moment even if you have mates you want to play with, you have no control over where you spawn, and usually by the time you can meet up, someone is dead. This way you might not be able to decide where you spawn, but you can at least spawn in the same place as someone else willing to co-operate with you. Choice of starting equipment: Instead of everyone spawning with the same equipment, you have the choice of a piece of equipment. People have been talking about removing the backpack from the spawning equipment, which inspired this idea. It would encourage people to spawn in twos or threes, one person with a pack, another person with a couple of bandages, another person with some painkillers, someone else with a few sodas and cans of food, etc. (and NO-ONE WITH A WEAPON. EVER.) -
I was playing last night near Berezino and the military tents there with the dead soldiers around. The artifacts were everywhere and I could basically not see anything. I logged out and in again and they were no longer present. Maybe the issue is only evident when approaching the bodies from afar? I haven't investigated any further.

2 barns and 8 hunting posts? That's not a lot and I'm guessing you did quite a bit of running between those deer stands. Try going into townships.

Dude, you're not looking in the right places. I find SHITLOADS of sodas. To the point where it's not uncommon for me to find a water bottle and never have to drink from it because whenever I find a soda, I just drink it straight away. Go to any residence or industrial spawn spot, you're bound to find at least one.

Yeah, the Hive records your vital statistics and location, which is only relevant for the map you're on. So as soon as you start having servers with different maps, potentially with a unique map, what happens when you join a different server? Can you imagine the carnage if your position is only saved per server? You'd get people joining a server all decked out amongst all the people spawning for the first time. Slaughter. So yeah, I stand by my statement that this is the Holy Grail. The thread didn't get very far, by the way, so you're not missing much.

This was a "suggestion" that I made. I called it "the Holy Grail" of DayZ because I think it would be next to impossible to pull off. Having procedurally generated maps. The problem is, having your player information saved and globally accessible on any server in the world is only possible at the moment because there is only one world map. How do have procedurally generated maps shared across the Hive?

Cut your beard? Are you insane?? No, you would grow it long and wear it proud. People would organise ceasefires so that you could parade your glorious growth down the main street of Elektro. There would be a guard of honour either side, saluting your wondrous achievement in facial plumage.

This is something I have never seen done well in any game, so I'm sure it's not easy to do and I am sure people have attempted to tackle this aspect of games before, so I won't be offended/disappointed if this idea gets shot down: At the moment, whether you hear a sound or not is based on absolute distance, so each gun has an audible range. If you are outside of that range, you don't hear that sound. In reality, if someone fires a gun from across an open field, it can be heard even from a couple of kilometres away. Also, if someone fires a gun behind a building, the sound is somewhat dampened. Would it be possible to have a basic pathfinding algorithm that "searches" for other players within X distance and calculates the number and total angle of "turns" to go through and the total distance that the sound has to travel and then adjust the sound for that player? This would mean Survivor A fires an Enfield next to a barn. Survivor B standing next to him hears it loud and clear, Survivor C on the other side of the barn hears it a bit quieter, and Survivor D a couple of kilometres away across the field still hears it, but very quietly. While we're at it, have the sound lagged depending on the distance it travels too, since speed of light > speed of sound. like I said, I'm sure this is not an easy thing to do, but I reckon it would boost the immersion greatly.

I "server hop" because I try to find a server that's currently in the daytime cycle. DayZ Commander attempts to tell you the time on the server but more often than not it is wrong.

Let's work on this idea - When killed by a Zombie, you could get a choice of spawning as a Zombie or a Survivor.
