Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
unclegus replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
I played DayZ today for about half an hour. First time in about a year. What's changed? Oh, there are a few new shirts and guns. A couple of buildings that you can go inside now. There's a crosshair, that's nice. NO ZOMBIES. I then installed the DayZmod and played that for ten minutes, mostly spent running for my life, immersed in the game with the atmospheric music, zombies everywhere, got cornered and pummeled to death. Brilliant fun! Why can't we have that in the standalone? Seriously, it's been f*cking years. This is supposed to be a zombie apocalypse game. Shouldn't the development priority be the ZOMBIES? -
Same Steam account, different computer, different character

Last night at home I logged on to the server and my character at the loadscreen was a newspawn. When I joined the server, I was a newspawn. I killed myself to see if relogging would then pick up my other character with the gear. It didn't. This morning at work I checked the IP address of the public hive server that I frequent to make sure it is the same. It is. At the menu my character had all the gear that he had the last time I was playing at work. I joined the server and I was a newspawn. I disconnected and went back to the menu and my character had no gear. Seems like somehow my hive record got split. Killing myself at home must have reset it. My internet connection was acting up the other night when I was logging in at home, so perhaps that had something to do with it? I also noticed something else last night. I was connected to the server at home and I remotely connected to my work pc and logged into Steam to attempt to check the IP address of the server. DayZ couldn't run because of the remote desktop video stuff but when I logged in to Steam on my work machine, I got the toast popup at home saying that I had logged in somewhere else. Does this mean that it is technically possible to play DayZ with the same account twice? Maybe this is related to my hive split? Maybe with my poor connection the other night, somehow I joined without really joining, in a similar way to already being connected and then connecting elsewhere with the same account. -

I have written down the IP address for the server here at home and I will double check it against the IP address for the server when I get to work to make sure that I am not just tripping. -

It's definitely the same steam account; I only have one. When I start up Steam at home, my character is there with all the appearance settings that I chose: Asian guy, green shirt, brown shoes. My name is there on both machines. When I start up Steam at work, my character is there with all the same appearances and the name, but he has a bunch of gear. Surely that is all pulling from the public hive? Yet no matter what server I join at home, I'm a newspawn. When I change servers at work, I keep the same gear. I have a particular server that I usually use, and up until a few days ago, I had the same gear at home and at work. Now it has split somewhere, somehow. -

When I play DayZ at work I have a bunch of gear. When I get home and log in, I am a newspawn. Wat du? -
Blood types, intriguing! I'm guessing there will be some way to determine your blood type? And if you transfuse the wrong blood things get real ugly? So what's the long term plan for the nutrition system? Or is that all hush hush?

Some more feedback: I managed to break the hospital glass; just had to hit a different window. The temperature gauge has always been pretty useless. As far as I understand, you can get cold from swimming for ages, but who swims anywhere? Maybe rain should make you cold as well. I think the heatpacks were supposed to be useful if you get cold but yeah, you never get cold. The temperature gauge starts out deep pink and then goes red after running for 1 minute and then never changes. Perhaps, as some people have suggested, your temperature should go up when you're sick and feverish and than you could use icepacks to decrease your temperature. Of course there would have to be other effects from your body temperature, like too hot = hard to aim / can't run or something like that. Too cold = more prone to infection. Now that you have to spend time eating food, and there is a greater emphasis on scrounging and almost constantly eating small items of food, it doesn't make sense that the hunger gauge is completely filled whenever you eat anything. I think it should work more like the blood gauge where eating restores a certain amount of hunger points, and bigger things like steak restore more. You could also use this to make drinking soda less beneficial than drinking water by having soda decrease the hunger gauge (glycemic index and all that). I have some pretty crazy elaborate ideas about how blood/energy/food/nutrition should work, but I think small incremental changes are better than complete overhauls. I found a bicycle yesterday and stashed it and it is still there today, so I can only conclude that my vehicle misadventures of previous days were either exceptionally bad luck, a broken server or hacking.

One more: it would be cool if when you're using a melee weapon, the rifle that you have in the "holding" position is visible on your character. Otherwise you might try to take someone on when they're weilding a hatchet and suddenly they pull an AK out of their bunghole.

Sorry if I'm repeating anything already mentioned in the 8 pages that I'm not going to read through. Also sorry for giving feedback on stuff that has been around for ages. I haven't played in a while. Overall, this patch is awesome. I love the new inventory/UI elements. The 1 2 3 weapon changes is GREAT and long overdue. I like how there's far more of an element of scrounging for survival now, with heaps of cans of food that give you a tiny bit of health to keep you alive, etc. I like how guns are very rare and how you basically should never use them against zombies because you instantly attract the horde; guns for PVP and melee for PVE, very nice. Crafting looks promising but somewhat crappy at the moment. I had all the components required for creating a barbed bat but it didn't recognise the baseball bat and wouldn't let me create the item, so I gave up on that. Some of the crafting items seem really unnecessarily complex for little gain, like crafting a bandage. I have not yet found all of the required components, yet I have found dozens of actual bandages, so what would be the point of crafting them? I am either extremely unlucky with vehicles, or there is a vehicle save bug. I had three vehicles disappear on me on consecutive nights and at least one of them I found back where it had spawned with the same gear in it as when I found it. I like the way the zombies behave now. It makes stealth/evasion a much more necessary and useful strategy, tied in with the risks of firing a weapon etc. I haven't found any silenced weapons yet but I'm guessing they will be very valuable. There might be a bug with the hospital glass as I have not been able to smash it either with a hatchet or by throwing cans at it. This might be intentional behaviour though. I haven't tried firing a weapon at it yet. I was driving a bus once and had stopped and zombies were able to hit me in the driver's seat. Bug or intended behaviour? If it is intended, I think it would be awesome if zombies had to smash the glass to be able to reach you first. This would add some value to repairing the glass on vehicles. I like the way zombies can knock you over. Choosing a spawn point is an interesting change. I think I like it, but either way, the fact that it is a server setting makes it awesome. Not spawning with a flashlight is a good change. I like having a chance to prevent infection before it starts, so that having antibiotics is not necessary. The extra loot spawn points in doorways and under carports and under wrecked trucks and things is fantastic. It adds a lot more interactivity on the map. I think I saw a zombie spawn out in the forest once? Might have just been really lost or lured out by another player, but if not, excellent! Add more risks to the uninhabited places. At the very least it makes the hours spent running across the wilderness more interesting. I think maybe some zombies are spawning already dead? This is great because it means you can't be sure if someone is around or not. If it's a bug, then keep it as a feature. That's all I can think of right now. Keep up the awesome work!

The only thing I've been able to find the right components for so far is the barbed bat. 1 baseball bat, 1 nails, 1 wire fencing kit. I had all three in my inventory and opened the crafting journal. I couldn't add them to my crafting ingredients. I figured out that I needed to put them on the ground in a pile, so I did that. I could then add them to the crafting ingredients in the little grid etc. But when I clicked on start crafting, a white text message showed up on screen (in the same manner as "you ate can (unknown)" etc.) saying "you are missing a required component 1 baseball bat" or something to that effect (going from memory here). So I couldn't actually craft it, despite having all the ingredients. Seems like a real fucking hassle when all you need to do is find a hatchet to one shot kill zombies anyway.

So was the wire removed or not?

It's kind of funny how someone can do something completely for free, yet they get totally flamed for it "not being good enough". You know, he could have sat around on DayZ until it was flawless and not let anyone outside a select circle even see it. He could have done that, but he chose to release it to the world. You played it. You got some kicks. Tell me how he has short changed you for the $0.00 that you spent on this alpha-phase mod? He would be entirely within his rights to tell everyone to go fuck themselves and stop the whole DayZ project altogether. He'd be a douche for doing that, but he wouldn't actually be re-negging on anything that anyone is entitled to. Play DayZ, get kicks. Don't play DayZ, do something else. Whatever.
