Where are people getting all this good stuff?
Freyar replied to Unforsaken Assassin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
... you think players in games like Call of Duty have the large amount of patience needed to camp a place for hours on end? Really? My father enjoys the show, thanks. -
I believe any trade ought to have the risk of it going south. The tension in these types of things are what makes every interaction a worry. Hell, go watch Firefly when Captain Reynolds deals with Patience on Whitefall.

I find myself getting frustrating finding a building and learning that it's one of the many that you can't enter. I fully understand that it is how the map was made, no biggy.

What is it with you and constantly referencing CoD? Did Activision kill your parents or something? Cosmetics is a good part of any persistent game as well. Useful, fair, or otherwise high-demand gear will always be hard to get. -
When your buddy is down, please help him!

Can't really blame newer players though. Isn't like the medical system is intuitive. (Hell, people learning how to use FLARES is a task in itself.) -
Trip Mines: Why they should be implemented
Freyar replied to Foolski's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I.. kinda hate mines in general. They're always "set and forget" which is overly lame. -
Even with power limitations, that small period of time where they can be used is just asking for abuse.

Problems with the Morality System
Freyar replied to -A2L-Jono's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Should be an area chat to begin with unless there's a radio (as suggested.) If there are to be "bandits", survivors really have no reason to be "safe" from them. New, Old, Well Stocked, Poorly Stocked. A single bullet can make all the difference and playing carefully can typically end up with you winning the contest. -
The translation here is: "You shoot other players' date=' therefore your opinion is wrong and you belong in those [i']other shooter games. I don't think this conversation was about the Bandit system in itself (seriously though, as it is now, it's far too easy to slip down and it takes a ridiculous amount of time and effort to get back up, especially if you were defending yourself.) It would need to be balanced out so that "farming" zeds isn't the sole activity of the game to balance out PvP behavior, nor should an "accidental" self-defense zed kill result in clearing someone's name. Tuning the zombies to hunt a bit more aggressively at night may help push people away from barricades and stashes. To be honest' date=' taking your resources is part of the game. You may [i']prefer to scavenge for them, but face it, there are plenty of people that would be happy to kill you for it. Fallout (One and Two.. forget 3 and NV), Planescape Torment, even Baldur's Gate has elements to these. You're in a lawl-less [/Freudian slip] area and your tools are what help you enforce that. If you're upset about losing the contest of arms to be able to enforce your will (in this case, keeping your equipment), well.. perhaps something more structured is for you?

I can see the intent, turning Day Z into a STALKER-esque copy, but that just doesn't seem appropriate.

In a game using (essentially) perma-death, there really is no "competitive" PvP. This is a kill or be killed game when it comes to unknown players. A person firing off indiscriminately at walls or ground (yes, I've seen that) is a risk to not just himself, but people around him as well. So far, I've had to carefully consider the risk of going after another player. I balance the risk of being shot an attracting a zombie (or horde) versus being able to get what I want (resources or security). The people against the system as it is now mistake this whole approach as malice, killing "for teh luzl" as they put it when it simply is a cold calculated ratio of risk, reward, and security. No, having a Concord system lifted from EvE would not be a good idea. Zombies aren't a balancing force. They're deadly in a crowd and can really **** up an unprepared person. Even if you are prepared, that's a set of resources you're still spending anyway. "If you shoot someone, you're a griefer" isn't the proper way to look at this.

If I saw it right (and I could be completely wrong), humanity returns slowly over time too. VERY slowly.

[GUIDE] Newbie Survivor version 1.2.0.
Freyar replied to blackbeard06's topic in New Player Discussion
It's a good start up, but I have got to emphatically suggest that newer players start during the day. Spend the day getting your bearings, learning the areas. There's only so much you can do with limited equipment and flares. I spent my time in a fairly confined area. -
I've screwed around a bit already and frankly I find "PvP" to be entirely required for this kind of game or mod. Being a former EvE Online player, I find myself easily paranoid about anyone and everyone (especially newer characters, of which are the only kinds I've seen so far). End result, anyone I can't trust, I've ended up killing. Granted, this has resulted in a lot of others just randomly shooting at me as well, but it's part of the scenario. If you have something I need (or hell, really want), I'll likely take the safest route to get it from you. That something ranges from space, to buildings, to stashes, to anything that I can use. If you want to make yourself useful, by all means make the offer, but I'll assume hostile otherwise.
