This will certainly end well, won't it? -
PVP - Spawn Points and Safe havens
Freyar replied to bionoman's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Telling players that bandits shouldn't arrive sounds like a challenge. Ever tell a gang member to "step off" or ask one if they were "challenging you"? (Read that in the whitest voice you can for maximum humor.) -
What goals do you set for yourself?

Find enough canteens and equipment to get up north for better scavenging. Shoot if target's a threat. -
How many people have you converted?
Freyar replied to Mugen (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've shown the mod to a few people, though they never owned ARMA II. Had a few co-workers looking over my shoulder one night as I was playing it after hours. -
I must be playing on the wrong servers at the wrong time as well. I've been shot "out of nowhere" before, but it was my own damn fault. The pile of survivor and bandit bodies should have hinted that it was dangerous to go there, but I didn't listen to my gut feeling. #EDIT Can we also NOT try and sling mud at either side as well? The assumption that people that fire shots off at players are CoD players pleasing themselves with one hand doesn't help the arguments at all. I'm all for finding a compromise, but why the fuck should I care if the loudest speakers against PvP are going to be insulting me and assuming that I don't think my actions through?

Being able to identify people that you've met (with that "instance" of your character that you have) would go a ways. That said, getting shot by other players happens to me in town more than out in the wilderness. It's something I expect, and it's something anyone else should expect. What exactly are you proposing as a "punishment" that's actually believable here? The OP was so wrapped up in his "Augh, I got killed" moment he neglected to consider how to identify (mechanics wise), and appropriately punish. PvP and Banditry won't go away. It will stay (as it rightfully should.) Knowing who's who in a method that makes sense is a really hard question though, as just instantly knowing each and every time you meet someone is a bit on the meta-level. Perhaps we should just.. shrug and accept that maybe if we're looking at 'em, we should get their name in order to allow people to foster a reputation.

Any ideas without penalizing me for protecting myself from unknowns? :P

Why did you nerfed the loot percentage ?
Freyar replied to drakenof's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Going in to town at night, where there's a huge possibility of crawling up a zombies leg? Knowing that if you light a flare you will attract attention from other hunters and scavengers? Had to figure out how to remove some dude that looked fairly hostile while avoiding tripping the zombie's sensitive ears? -

I prefer absolute values to percentage texts to Icons. (Absolute>Percentage>Icons) Some could argue that ambiguity is a good thing though.

Change Starter Pistol Back To Revolver
Freyar replied to cordleztoaster's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Food and Medical seem more common in the two cities, whereas weapons are more plentiful (ammo is another debate) northward. -
How do you balance the "Don't Care" aspect introduced by respawns and being able to get away with looting readily available Winchesters? Reduce supplies, and make them more difficult to get to in order to foster co-operation. Naturally this also will up the "desperation" factor. All in all it's far easier to shoot, loot, and move on than it is to ask, and even then it's asking still opens you up too easily.

Unlocks would be cool, but I why wouldn't a character that is awesomely high on Humanity not be able to dress as something else? What about a Bandit trying to blend in? This seems really gamey rather than an organic experience of reading how a player acts and whatnot. Instead an arbitrary value is applied and much like the humanity system now, it wouldn't represent the player's intent very well.

You can argue that all you want, but the simple fact is that because people respawn, the value of life is non-existant. I really think primary weapons need to be made more rare at the very least to make them a bit of a treasure.

I'd spend a day at a hospital if I could get the doors open. -

Naw, you've got the gene, just not in the game proper. As far as people that are actively fighting zombies? I either do nothing, or try and take one or two down as best I can. Depends if it's in a city or not. -
Since when is "trust" a core element of a zombie outbreak? Your trust is for you and your own.. if someone proves to not be stupid through weeks of consistently being useful and contributing, then maybe you can let your guard down a bit.

Crazy how someone gives you an avenue to earn enough money to buy ArmA II and you ignore it.
-
We're in a game where slow progress can be beneficial. I find it hard to determine how you identify someone who's just staring at a door, covering it for thirty minutes versus someone who's genuinely gone.
-
He said he's earned enough. I can't vouch for it since I've never heard of it till now though.
-
I'd want to keep third person. "IFF" and crosshairs can go though.

How are you defining idling? Is there a system in place that marks people as idling?
