Do NOT play on US 1226 (or any CorE server)
Falcrist replied to slyskillz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You're not losing credibility. You simply have none here. Nobody knows who you are. Nobody cares about your counter-allegation unless you have proof to back it up, and nobody with half a brain is going to add anyone to their ban list without proof. If you really don't care what other people think of you, then I fail to see why you bothered to post in this thread in the first place. -
In order to do more damage, you need to transfer more energy into the internal organs of a target, as well as hit vital structures.Sure, bigger bullets transfer energy more effectively, but higher velocities also work, as does do tumbling and fragmenting bullets. Lets compare the 9mm bullet to the 7.62 NATO bullet. 1) You think that 9mm is a bigger bullet, when the 7.62 is actually much more massive. The 9mm is usually 115 grains, while the 7.62 tends to be over 150 grains. Caliber isn't the only measure of the size of a bullet. 2) The velocity of that 9mm round is generally less than half what the 7.62 has. 3) The combination of lower velocity and less mass means the 7.62 has FAR more energy to transfer to it's target. The 9mm will kill you if placed in the right spot. The 7.62 will kill you if it passes near the right spot. If the bullet tumbles or fragments, you're almost certainly going to die. Slugs are similar to pistol rounds in that they're low velocity, but high profile. They're very effective against human targets because they have a high likelyhood of breaking up as they enter the target. Unfortunately, they're not only low velocity, but also rapidly lose velocity. They tend to be effective only over short ranges. Within 20m, any hit to the torso or head should really be a kill. Unfortunately all the damage got nerfed for some reason. Going back to the high powered rifle, once again the .50BMG round has around 50% more mass than the slug, and is traveling about twice as fast. The slug will tear up your insides, but the .50BMG will blow them right out your back. Not to mention, it doesn't lose it's velocity NEARLY as fast as the slug. It's effective up to a mile, where the slug is only effective inside a couple hundred meters. The only other point I want to make is that barrel length actually does have an effect on lethality. The longer the barrel is, the more time the expanding gas has to push on the bullet. Basically, longer barrels mean higher velocity bullets. There is a limit, where the force of the gas is less than the friction of the barrel, but that limit is more than twice the length of a normal rifle. It's not a massive difference in rifles, since modern powders are designed to burn very quickly, but it's there. That's one of the reasons the .50 caliber rifles have stupidly long barrels.

It doesn't bleed through solid walls as much as the standard one does. Basically, it's harder for other players to see you.

Wut…That computer is a workstation. I don't think anyone here is going to be able to tell you if it will run ArmA effectively. Xeons are not intended for gaming, and that GPU is trashy. Meanwhile it looks like you could get a comfortably powerful rig with current components for like £800 By comfortable, I mean something like this: intel I5-3570k, Radeon HD7950, 8gb of 1600mhz ram, 600w PSU, decent case/HDD/disk/motherboard If you want to cut that down to 500-600 quid, go with a sandy bridge i3 and a radeon 7770. You can skimp a little more on the Case and motherboard, but try not to get crappy ram or PSU.

I'm sorry, but for any games in the last 5 years, you're going to want more power than you can get for £300. If that's your budget, you really need to consider buying a console. You'll get much MUCH more enjoyment for your money. My recommendation would be to spend double that amount at a minimum if you want to go PC. I'll edit again when I look at newegg in GBP. You guys generally get charged more than the US.

What word describes DayZ better than that?

I've yet to be seriously affected by a hacker, and I play a lot
Falcrist replied to T8TRG8TR's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've run into so many hackers that I'm starting to doubt people who say this. No offense, but everyone I know in game has run across numerous hackers. I've run into multiple CLANS of hackers just in the past week. -
Yup, hackers. I don't play as much anymore either. When I do play, I'm usually cleaning up after a hack attack.

Killing two birds with one solution (scripting and snipers)
Falcrist replied to Mr. Pink's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The game is already Pegi: 16+ and ESRB M (17+). Changing these numbers to 18 won't have any noticeable effect on hacking. -
What is the point of being a alpha tester....
Falcrist replied to Sakeoe (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I never said that reporting bugs was a bad thing, but the primary purpose of an alpha tester is to give feedback about the features.Of course, an open alpha will require more bugfixing, but it's still all about the features IMO. -
I wish the temperature gauge would go from green to blue or green to red. Not knowing when you're cold is kinda dumb.

Clearly this whole hacking thing has been way overplayed… even though I met two hacking clans, watched my friend die to an invisible DMR guy, found hacked vehicles, logged into a server that had been completely flattened, been massmurdered, found a partially constructed thunderdome, and had my vehicles at several different camps satchel charged… all this week. I'm sure that's all just my imagination. You've clearly proven that there aren't any hackers because you played on one server for a whole hour.

Are the hacker denialists... hackers?
Falcrist replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Actually, he didn't. Note the punctuation in the title of the thread.Your protest makes me wonder, though. Thousands? Lets move down two orders of magnitude. Please link 20 examples of threads with the same premise as this one. -
Are the hacker denialists... hackers?
Falcrist replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It doesn't matter who's fault it is. This is a serious issue, and this is one of the places in which it needs to be discussed.Slander is the wrong word to use. Slander is a harmful lie. But there actually are a large number of hackers, and they're getting worse. I've stopped recommending this game to friends now. If I even mention it, hackers are also mentioned. People need to understand that this is an alpha with many, MANY bugs, and almost no anti-cheat measures. -
Are the hacker denialists... hackers?
Falcrist replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My group has encountered multiple clans of hackers. One of us happened to be online when a group of hackers leveled our server, and they let him ride with them while they did so. They were talking as if pretty much everyone was a hacker. They were building a thunderdome when a few of them got banned from the hive. I ran across a small clan that I was going to offer a couple favorable trades to in order to be welcome to run with the group… until I realized they were hacking vehicles in, and magically knew where everyone's camp was. I've been massmurdered, teleported into the sky, shot through walls, killed by invisible teleporting hackers, and my vehicles have been satchel charged from helicopters. Hackers aren't rare at all. -

Falcrist replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Actually, 1:5 sounds about right. Not every hacker levels the whole server or teleports everyone into the sea (though I've seen more than my fair share of those). Some people just quietly spawn a vehicle or two or turn on ESP. -
Hackers spawning bot "survivors"
Falcrist replied to --_Archangel_--'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's just Rocket trolling you. :D -
If it's a standard FN FAL, stick with the M14 AIM. The ammo is much more common, and it has an optic.

What is the point of being a alpha tester....
Falcrist replied to Sakeoe (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That's beta, bro. Alpha is for testing features and concepts, not finding bugs. The exception is truly game breaking bugs like: “I'm unable to play because of error X”. -
.50 BMG sniper rifles aren't exactly common in the military. That's an extremely specialized piece of equipment.

Falcrist replied to Sakeoe (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Who said anything about bugs? He said “issue,” not “bug.”In any case, this is an alpha, not a beta. Rocket isn't supposed to spend the majority of time fixing things, he's supposed to be adding features. Alpha is for Adding features. Beta is for Bug fixing. -
Destroying a huge camp up north (sorry cheaters)
Falcrist replied to deadzen's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you were a better liar, nobody would have cared. The fact that you still can't loot a ghillie from a corpse, combined with the kind of gear you have and your use of a satchel charge lead me to believe that you're the hacker, and this was some random camp that might have been made by a hacker/cheater.Now you're changing your story, and editing the OP to try to defend yourself. Your head isn't rolling anywhere. You're just exposed. Change your forum name, learn to lie convincingly, and post another story like this. You'll quickly learn how few shits people normally give. -
It's like blaming the bank for bank robbers… except the bank in question leaves all the money on the floor by the entrance.
