Why is everybody so satisfied with ARMA2 Engine?
KrystoferRobin replied to EndEffeKt's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you want to really get worked into a frenzy, kill the lights, get some good, comfy headphones, stick to first person and use a TrackIR. When you're running through Cherno and you can glance down side streets as you run from some jackass with a hatchet, it really gets the blood flowing. The incremental leaning is fantastic for keeping a minimal profile when you're trying to return fire. I don't have to tap move because I have the lean thing going for me, but I've never felt it was that fidgety to get into a decent position. Again, I've had a trackir for a good long time now, I can make those tiny adjustments to my position with a lean of my head. -
Bandit able to take almost 30 bullets, without dying?
KrystoferRobin replied to blommas's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Here's a few tips to avoid that situation. 1) Aim for the head 2) Aim for the head 3) Aim for the head 4) Don't aim at his belt buckle 5) Aim for the head More importantly than all of that though... Headshots. Make them. -

KrystoferRobin replied to EndEffeKt's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Oh but you can lean just a little bit sir. you can also aim off-center of your view. You could use this or if you don't want to pony up for it, there are homebrew variations. Or a webcam can work as well (I used this a bit, it works fairly well once it's set up. The TrackIR is better). Here's what is essentially an ad for the TrackIR. If that doesn't sell you on it, nothing will. As a heavy Arma2 player, this was the single most important piece of hardware for me, hands down. Worth every penny. If you don't have a lot of pennies, there are alternatives that work fairly well (but still, nothing compares to the real thing). I am not affiliated with, paid by, or otherwise invested in this hardware, I'm just a huge fan, and can't see how anyone plays without it. Semi-Related Edit: The guy demoing the TrackIR...... Here's what the elevated situational awareness provides you. Just a video of him murderfucking everyone because of his huge advantages provided by cover of darkness, use of cover, hit and run, and better awareness. Also a good showcase of why some of us are absolutely smitten with Arma2, no matter how flawed it may or may not be. -

I love the Arma engine because I've been a long-time player of Arma2, and seeing it in its full glory, as it was intended, forgives mods like DayZ their flaws. The inventory is a bit flakey, but when you're playing a specific role in a squad, and you start your missions fully kitted, it's not an issue you find often. I rarely if ever need to CHECK my gear, let alone loot/move shit around. When you're saddled up cruising across the desert on the assault, the terrain is spectacular, and those first volleys of return fire are positively terrifying. DayZ doesn't have a hell of a lot of largescale battles, so the quirks show a lot more. The mod really has taken the worst aspects of an otherwise fantastic platform, and utilized them as heavily as possible. I think other engines would have been better suited to this mod, absolutely. I do not fault Arma for DayZ's problems, and I do not fault DayZ for Arma's. -
40 Second Graphical glitch fix.
KrystoferRobin replied to Sgt.Asshat's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Patch is supposed to fix it, and that method doesn't work for everyone. Like me. It doesn't do a damn thing whatsoever. flush doesn't help either, or if it does, it lasts about 10 seconds. Only fix I've found is to completely close Arma and reload. That gets me through the current area. When I approach a village/city/airfield that's glitching out like a spaz, I just disconnect, close the client and reload. I am fortunate to have a really high end rig, so the extra minute or two reloading isn't a big deal in the long run. On my old machine... holy shit I'd have given up on this mod ages ago. -

Sweet fuck I hope you're trolling. Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759 They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. This was written by Franklin, within quotation marks but is generally accepted as his original thought, sometime shortly before February 17, 1775 as part of his notes for a proposition at the Pennsylvania Assembly, as published in Memoirs of the life and writings of Benjamin Franklin(1818). A variant of this was published as: Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. This was used as a motto on the title page of An Historical Review of the Constitution and Government of Pennsylvania. (1759); the book was published by Franklin; its author was Richard Jackson, but Franklin did claim responsibility for some small excerpts that were used in it. “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” ― Benjamin Franklin, Memoirs of the life & writings of Benjamin Franklin Just a few citations of quite the opposite quote. -
Randomly running zombies
KrystoferRobin replied to RabidDiabetic's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've been the only player on a server and seen them run, but only in short little bursts. I've also seen them casually walking around like regular humans. I've heard them shout "OW!" and "SHIT!" and various other things when shot, like a normal human/civy. Arma2 is quirky. I have NOT seen more than 1 running w.out a person to chase however. -
Which Dupping has been fixed?
KrystoferRobin replied to gardiner83@hotmail.co.uk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Meh. Private hive solved all my DayZ issues. server has a high population, great latency, rebooted regularly so the load times are fast, dupers get banned. It's a shame you're married to the one server, but it's a hell of a lot better than server hopping for 3 hours so you can get away from cheaters. -
What would you have done in this situation.....
KrystoferRobin replied to thelonewarrior's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The first time he aimed at one of you he should have gotten a lead injection to the noggin. I've gradually shifted from goodguyheroman to assholekilleveryoneonsight guy due to the rampant backstabbing and KOS everyone has taken to. It sucks, and I hate it. Sure, I could take the moral highground and stick to my stance of "do unto others", but a man can only stand to face that beach so many damn times, ya know? I'd have shot the fucker in the river, personally. -
I'll chime in with another "i haven't seen a cz in a long while". I've thrown away more AS50's than I care to count, but haven't laid hands on a 550 in 7-8 weeks. Maybe the spawn rate is changed/broken? Oh, no. AS50's are duped to shit and back. Move along.

why are so many children playing this game?

Slower Zombies.. Has this been talked about?
KrystoferRobin replied to Bricrue's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Slow or fast, I find doors and gates 100X more dangerous then zombies. I completely and totally ignore the infected. Just stepping into a building (which you kinda gotta do for loot anyway) pretty much nullifies their threat completely. If you have a hatchet, its just another chore to do before you get back to playing. -

I can almost see the logic behind this.... and yet I can't. I played MW2 for several months when it released, I really enjoyed the mindless, gratuitous violence of it. Gradually, it became more and more filled with aimbotters and wallhackers, to the point I could play 10 matches, and maybe 2 were legit. While crying about it to my brother (lets face it, QQ is QQ), he says "just get your own wallhack and stop being a little bitch". So I did. I grabbed myself an ESP, and joined a few matches. First time some asshat was clearly cheating, I flipped that shit on and would grief him and only him for the entire time he was in our "server". Within about 3 days, I had quit playing completely. Even using it as a retaliation/defense completely ruined the game for me. I wouldn't ever get shot because I could see everyone, and avoided them all so I could exact justice on the cheater. Ultimately, he's still playing, and cheating his whiny bitch ass off, and I've retired a game I quite enjoyed. I really can't see the draw. It really just isn't fun to know where everyone is, have all the guns/ammo, or be invincible. I don't get it. I've tried to understand it. I DO understand making yourself hugely powerful through hard work, determined planning and in-depth knowledge of a game's systems, like Anarchy Online twinking... squeezing gear meant for a level 150 onto a level 40 doctor is hard, expensive, and requires not just your own hard work and time, but the help of other players to make it happen. I dunno, I really wish I could "get it". Maybe understanding it would make it less of an obnoxious, rage inducing thing. I can't even pity them for being pathetic because I'm not convinced it is purely them being pussies who can't handle a little hardcore gaming. I've spent years playing roguelikes and loving it, permadeath and all, but ALL of my friends call me a masochist for it; I've warned everyone that "my little @sign games are too hardcore for you". If that's how you want to play... Ok. I only wish it wasn't at the expense of other people playing the way THEY want. Your right to throw punches stops at my face. I signed up to be sniped in cherno after spawning. I signed up to hunted down and run over by UAZ's. I didn't sign up for some asshat to teleport everyone into a deathmatch arena and set them on fire while he masturbates into his grandmothers panties. -

I thought I did good the whole way through. The fact that I shot that fellow at the end may seem cold and heartless, but I've been shot/axed in the back after a random "friendly" 1 too many times. With no nameplates on, I can't be sure if I killed him or not, but no one died for quite some time after I shot him. He may have survived, he was around the back of the hospital, I'd like to think he pulled out ok. Incorrect sir, assholes ALWAYS get your beans. -

I'd been living in a barn near Pusta for about 4 days, coming out to scavenge the countryside, and returning when I was done. I log off behind a pile of crates, just in case. Logged in one day and hear people talking.... very, very close. 1 is across the barn, upper level, rifting through my shit. I put a crossbow bolt in his eye. His 2 friends were directly above me, but were unsure where the shot came from, so they come down the ladder. I put a second man down, but the third spots me... and the crazy asshole tosses a goddamn grenade at me. I ran like hell, got out of the barn just as it went off, knocked me out cold, killed him. I finally come to, broken leg, near dead, messed up pretty bad. Nurse myself up as best I can, collect my bolts, swap packs with one of these assholes. I figure I should move on, find a new barn to call home.... Within about 5 minutes, I can hear a car approaching on the road, these same three assholes bounce out and fan out looking for me. How the hell they got to me that fast, I have no idea. I know it's not terribly far from the coast, but for all 3 to show up, in a car, geared up.... decently populated server.... I head deeper into the woods, but I'm spotted. AK's ring out, rounds plinking trees all around me, dirt flying up, I'm screwed, these shitheads are going to kill me.... I look over my shoulder and spot one of them trying to catch up to me. I dive into the dirt, spin around, and plug him with my crossbow, then switch to my sidearm. I lay there and wait. Sure enough #2 isn't far behind, I unload when he's close enough. I wait... and wait... #3 is no where to be seen. I get up on one knee just as I get a hatchet in my thigh. "This is it.. I die now" as I flip around and blindly fire my last 1911 round frantically. Bingo to the dome. I crawled all the way to elektro with 480 blood and a broken leg. Passing out over and over and over. Some kind fellow patched me up, I thanked him with a bullet once he'd given me a transfusion. C'est la vie. -
I thought I was the only asshole feeding the bag of holding all the weapons I don't want/can't carry. heatpacks, tincans, flares, empty bottles are always left behind, anything else vanishes into my backpack, or gets stuffed on a corpse and hidden. Unprofessional? UNPROFESSIONAL? All these survivors are supposed to be professional? Professional what? These survivors live on a diet largely composed of canned beans and soda. Do you really think that's realistic? Sprinting for hours solid without breaks? Eating entire bottles of painkillers to calm the shakes? Rebuilding cars, trucks and helicopters without any training or tools? Utilizing every weapon system on hand proficiently from the moment they are picked up? Cloud cover always rolling the same direction? Infected forgetting about you because you've stepped onto a dock, or ran through a covered driveway? Mending broken limbs with morphine? Survivors all with the inborn ability to perform a field blood transfusion? Cars exploding because they ran into a bush? Roadflares collapsing buildings? Tin cans breaking your legs when tossed? Taking 5-6 .45acp to the chest and walking away from it? 4 crossbow bolts taking up the same amount of space as an entire m249 canister? Pistol mags magically refilling just because you've decided to use them in a revolver, but then changed your mind? People vanishing into thin air because they heard a gunshot? People vanishing and reappearing on your flank during a firefight? Teleporting through walls to climb ladders. Yeah man, "hiding" a corpse totally ruins the realism. You fucking nailed it.

What Is Your Favourite Weapon?
KrystoferRobin replied to LoneWolfEdits's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I love my crossbow. I don't love the non-stacking bolts. Instead of waiting for a zed to clear out so I can advance, I can silently put him down AND recover my ammo. Since it's a low tier weapon, I can usually put my hands on one within 15 minutes of spawning, so that's another plus. Make those bolts stackable and I bet it would be the most popular starting weapon for everyone. -

We are consumers of Arma2. Arma2, in it's current form, works fine. I play daily. DayZ on the other hand is plagued with asshats and is buggy as fuck. Arma on the other hand... works as advertised, and is protected to a level that is required for it's playerbase, which is largely a very devoted, honest bunch. You purchased Arma2 for a mod. That's your problem to work out, not theirs or anyone else's. The THIRD PARTY, UNAFFILIATED mod you picked, of all the mods and missions available for Arma2, seems to breed the absolute worst bunch of sniveling, bratty, spoiled little shits I've seen anywhere. Every fucking one of you little shits comes in here crying about refunds and demanding BI do something about a mod they have no fucking control over, then try to justify your crying with bullshit semantics and word games. If that helps you sleep better, go right ahead, but don't expect anyone with a functional brain to give you any sympathy. Jesus christ you people are stupid. -

KrystoferRobin replied to SpeedyBanana's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
then don't buy arma 2, how fucking hard is this to understand? You can in fact use a ford taurus as a getaway car in a bank heist. If you get arrested during said getaway, you don't get a refund on the fucking car. So many entitled little brats running around. It's not your fault you're a spoiled little cunt, it's your parents; they did a shit-lousy job teaching you. It is un-fucking-believable the level of stupidity that comes with "I bought this game, then added 3rd party shit to it that I don't like, so I want my money back". I've been handing out refunds today, if you want one, I'll happily mail you a check for the $0.00 you spent on DayZ. No matter what your motive for purchasing Arma2 was, you DID NOT, COULD NOT, AND CAN NOT purchase DayZ. I wish I could say you people are learning a valuable lesson here, but I suspect most of you used mommies money anyway, and she clearly hasn't learned shit in the 14 years you've been mucking up everything. -
1. You're gonna have to elaborate on that 2. Meh. On or off, I don't care. 3. Upgrade your rig. SSD's are well within affordable prices now. 4. You are clearly not cut out to be an admin, so why worry about it?
