I was wondering if there would be any interest in by anyone with a private hive to test the implications of a 1 life to live game mode. Rules: -Death results in ban. -Registration required before admittance into server. -1 Hive 1 Server. -After one month the event is over. -Administrator reserves the right to 'reset' the Hive and Ban Lists in case of emergency Its very simple. To make it even more interesting a concept of a 'competition' could be fleshed out. Obviously certain considerations to balance would need to be thought out.

"Brutal" difficulty hive concept.

What limitations? -
Thanks for the heads up and we can't explain how much we are anticipating what you are going to cook up.

What happens to/with British Soldier Uniforms if you downgrade to 1.7.2.5?
[email protected] replied to Obsolescence's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Really rare. -
By and large the biggest change that DayZ has seen to its gameplay mechanics as late is the fact that, due to weapon proliferation, the end game is achieved in moments from spawn. For a return to the basics would you all be fine with a massive HIVE tent/Vehicle reset? Only keep what you have on you?

Would you let your tents get wiped?
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Actually with the current state of the game I'm finding tents with hacked thermal optic .50 cals that regenerate after every restart. I'm more and more beginning to feel that we need to get things wiped so that we can see where this game goes with a higher playerbase from day 0. -
Death should really be the end.
[email protected] replied to schrapple's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This is still something he should address, not now, but some time after initial release. I mean DayZ started out really spartan with military grade loot and it just got out of hand quickly. Right now its terrible due to a hive glitch but... back before all of this our group had legitamately obtained ridiculous amounts of mil grade loot and spread it so far apart that you can't walk 400 meters in our server without become fully equipped. -
Your favorite city
[email protected] replied to deathstrike616's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Top City: Byerazino (russian transliteration Berezino) -Large city that with current view distance trends is impossible to properly overwatch except in a select few places (which put the observer at high risk). Ton of loot spawn points and the only Northern Hospital. Close proximity to Solnichny and the Orlevets Factory and also very close to Krasnostav and the NE Airstrip. Top Town: Dubrovka -Only town that has a 'suburb' (not marked on the map) and its geometry is particularly fun. Gorka is nearby and just south of that is Polana all of which are nice places to visit and call home. If it weren't for the rowdy people near the Airfield and Stary I'd love to call those places home though. -
Are there actual friendly people out there...
[email protected] replied to schaine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
When encountering randoms I tend to be highly suspicious and always try to have the support of my buds. I'm working to enforce a guncontrol mandate. If you really are friendly don't pick a gun higher than a shotgun ;D -
SVD and more specifically the PSO scope is the awesome sauce of optics in this game. The ACOG gets close but just doesn't do the damage a good 7.62mm does.

The netcode in Arma2/DayZ is absolutely TERRIBLE
[email protected] replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The net code is actually very good and if you were to spend some time with the PvP mod Project Reality you would see this. Back in the day desync was terrible and made it completely unplayable. Then the beta came out and they started fixing the serious issues. I only rarely see a desync when not in a vehicle. I honestly don't know why DayZ desyncs vehicles so much when again ArmA2 PR and the ACE/ACRE server I play on don't suffer from it. About hitting moving targets. It can and is done, 600m head shot on a guy running perpendicular with an SVD adjusted for bullet drop. Pwnt. Then again my DL tops 2.5 mb/s. -

[email protected] replied to schaine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Certain things conspire against all of this. #1) People get bored easily and need to attempt to exert some form of dominance over another person. #2) There is nothing to use the top tier guns on but people. #3) Guns are everywhere and people have no fear of losing them. #4) Even the 'nice' people would rather ventilate you at 300meters then close to 50meters and say hi. #5) Death is no punishment so life is cheap. Really this mod lost its direction with the influx of players, duping items, and the lack of a reasonable community focused end game. Come to US 137 (hardcore server) and join the TG teamspeak we wont bite you. -
Day Z - The Novel (In Progress)
[email protected] replied to vbsarge's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Okay. Yeah there are problems and yeah I only skimmed it, but I think you need to give him more credit than the trash that is Fifty Shades. Have you even picked up the book? Its paper is the paper you find in scrap pads meant for two year olds recycled five times over. No I'm not joking the paper is the lowest quality paper in the world... and its STILL worth more than the letters that form words that barely form sentences that definitely do not form literature. Seriously this is fan fiction but its decent enough. On that topic would the author mind if I comb through it and edit/give some of my own advice? -
I just spawned in Novy Sobor
[email protected] replied to chris p. bacon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Best spawn ever. I had an AAR from when I spawned there on the TG forums. It was neat to spawn inside a building (literally noclip mode) (without a weapon) because it afforded me some security and time to pick when I should move out of the building. -
Day Z - The Novel (In Progress)
[email protected] replied to vbsarge's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You are definitely not a hack. Keep it up. I personally took the adaptation direction and based my fiction, which when in a readable state I'd love to share with you, in the US. Simply stated I can't be arsed to shoe horn russian culture into my efforts. I'd severely screw it up and annoy those who know better. -
Would you want longer view distance?
[email protected] posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The current max view distance appearing in DayZ seems to be about 1 and a half kilometers with the terrain rendering slightly beyond this (but people and zombies do not). Personally, I feel a longer base view distance, say 3000 meters enforced in PRA2, would open the map up a lot more and really help both the immersion and situational awareness. Simple yea or nay. -
Debug monitor will be gone in 1.7.3 !

I think this kind of shows the problem with the spartan HUD. But I like a minimal hud. So I say take from everyone the same. No HUD indication at all. Blurry vision for very low blood sure beyond that any attempt at keeping a number to health cheapens the nature of survival. How terrifying will it be when you don't know how bad off you really are? Personally instead of color waning I think a simple 'Diagnosis' prompt would suffice. For example check out PRA2's version: EDIT: Check time stamp @ 5:13 ---- So simply just 'diagnosis' yourself and get a message saying; "You have several cuts and scratches, you don't feel well." -
How does one survive DayZ?
[email protected] replied to extinctsquirrel's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In a not so serious manner? You survive by not playing. Seriously? You survive by doing basic hunting missions about an hour or two everyday and hope you stock pile on food enough. Survival really is boring though because you can't do anything with it. -
my humanity is ridiculous....

This is the issue with proliferated military grade weaponry that can kill at ranges exceeding 150meters. I understand the mentality. -
Way to make "save tent" working
[email protected] replied to Paddy0610's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'll help you stop your testing. Tents need to be on flat and level terrain because they, like all other vehicles in the game, reorient themselves at a restart. Now for some reason when these vehicles reorient themselves they do NOT keep the inventory changes that happened AFTER the flip. So in effect a 'tilted' tent is flipped and will not save items until it is reoriented after the restart. -
This. This so much. Even our large group would rather up the kills of hatchet nubs then help people. I offered to go in Cherno and open a dialogue with some people but the situation went south quick after the overwatch got done in by a trigger happy nub who didn't warn the group he was firing and revealed the position. Shortly later the three man group died to close range fires. So alone and in Cherno with another three man group coming in from the north I stumble across a guy crouch running blind in the night with a good grade military rifle. He passes me no more than 10 meters and I yell "HALT" in direct, I wanted to see if this guy was a reasonable person, I'm interested in the social aspect of this apocalypse. But I'm not stupid. He turns around, I assume out of habit to see who is talking to him, and at this range I have no choice but to pull the trigger of my FN FAL (Man killer) and gun him down. Simultaneously to all of this he utters three words in what I think is a british accent; "Are you friendly?". I kick my self around for the next few days wondering if who I gunned down was just turning to look at me. Still my concious is clear, when told to HALT you fucking halt. When told to drop your gun you fucking drop it.

Well I mean how do you know you killed that guy unless you see him die or you walk over to his body and deliver a coup de grace. -
I actually pick up a vest pouch when possible. It minimizes my profile a good deal and really helps me to avoid detection while prone when a big pack telegraphs your location. Sure I could use a ghille but I don't think its a realistic clothing item and it is too much easy mode. I don't like running two weapons and normally I operate near a camp of mine so I don't need to loot much. I run super light with just enough ammo to engage a little here and there. It works for me and it makes the game a challenge at the boring end game. If I ever die, which I've never died while having a vest pouch, I don't lose much either. And more importantly that bandit gets peanuts off of me.

Not to sound crass but if people can cough up the dough to play BF3 why not DayZ? The Real Virtuality engine is more CPU intensive though and I guess that really does punish the people with 10+ year old computers... but seriously I doubt that population is too invested in this game series. The grass is just something that can't be done by today's standards. Even the best computers couldn't handle that. Best for there to be some work arounds at ranges like the terrain rendering to grass level when the grass isn't rendered.
