Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
JJTopper replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
If zombies are more difficult to deal with in the stand-alone product, how about giving survivors the ability to harvest zombie rot/juices to rub on yourself? It could reduce zombie threat slightly for a limited time. So if you know you're headed into a zombie-heavy area, you might want to kill a wandering zombie outside the town for a bit of an edge. Edit: I know Rocket mentioned wanting to get rid of the UI in the stand-alone, so this effect could be applied to the survivor skin visually. Like a grunge/guts smeared all over your character and when it runs out, you look clean again. -

Spectator mode is usually a server-side option reserved for special events/tournaments. It wouldn't be an issue. -

How about walkie talkies (item spawn) with like 200+ channels on the server. So you can talk with friends (meet up on a specific channel) or randomly tune into channels to try and find other survivors and talk. Edit: Already mentioned (radios I assume). Not sure how to delete my post though. My bad! -

A couple more suggestions: - The ability to whistle, to attract/distract zombies. - Spawn birds in the forrest. Have them sit in the trees/searching for worms on the ground and if you're not paying attention and walk into their radius, you'll spook them and they'll make a lot of noise crowing/flying away. This would give away your position in the woods. Adds some tactical depth outside urban areas. - Spectator mode. And if you really want to go all out with it, the DOTA2 International was amazing...where you could watch the tourney from the game client with commentators and all that good stuff. It was awesome and could be a great tool for community-driven events like the Hunger GameZ. - Full UI customization (or removal). A must for streamers. -
Should we remove barbed wire in the next update

Yes. They only cause problems at the moment. Kind of useless right now too. And you can always add them back later...only trolls will miss them. -

Bugs aside, that was an awesome event! As DayZ gets more polished and the people running the show work out some of the organization/rule kinks, this is going to be some of the best E-Sport entertainment out there. Thumbs up guys! Loved it! Edit: People can watch one perspective here - http://www.twitch.tv/akamikeb/b/329828177 -

To make zombies more of a threat, how about whenever a zombie hits you, there's a % chance you become infected. Once infected, it's only a matter of time before you "turn" and lose all control of your character (basically you die, but your corpse lives on). So if you get infected and you're in a group, you'll have to figure out how to deal with it. A danger being that 1 infected person could turn and hit/infect the rest of the group. You'll also be that much more careful about being seen by zombies and attracting attention....since you don't want to get infected. -
Thank you so much! These bugs make the game unplayable. I couldn't get through Berezino this weekend because of all the artifacts. Was brutal. :x

Regarding the removal of the respawn button: The point of using respawn is to find a good location to meet up with friends. So as long as there's a group spawn option in place, I don't care about actually selecting where I spawn...be it solo or as a group. Random is fine, as long as there's a group spawn option. As for saving character data, you could always not save character data until the person walks x-yards/picks up an item. People respawning for a different location don't actually move their character or pick anything up anyways. Dunno if that's possible...might be some background stuff I'm not aware of.
