Disconnect, change server, flank, reconnect. Simple solution.

In both those examples it's just you reconnecting to the same server, not going from server A to B and then back to A. As long as you don't connect to a different server you should be fine. We can also always play the 'what if game' and make up endless scenarios where this is may not be ideal because people tend to fuck up and do stupid shit. However, I think we all agree that this is far better than letting dickwads server hopp and snipe people in the rear end. As for the whole '30 seconds disconnect delay', I think it will never work. People will just hide and wait. Besides, it takes people normally about 30 seconds to join a game and that doesn't stop them as it is. The other idea you had was that you had your location stored on the server and not the hive, I think that won't work either. That will only encourage spawn sniping even more. E.g. -Logs in to server, runs around and gets decent items. -Logs off and goes to bed. -Logs in to different server, spawns at the beach with said gear. -Gets sniped from a spawn camper. I'm in favor of the A-B-A delay 100%, 15 min or 30 minutes is fine by me either way. -
I think he is referring to the ArmA 2 which is constantly updating it's beta version. I believe it's mainly because of connecting issues and hackers/script injections, although I'm not 100% sure but that's my guess.

Yep same here, was way up north above the airfield and on next log in I was on the beach. Had all my stuff on me though :)

I'm pretty sure there never was any disconnect timer. I'm also pretty sure that Rocket said that the alt-f4'ing isn't even on his to-do list until the game is a stand alone version or at least until all the connecting issues, hacking issues and some other issues are dealt with. We can only hope that one day something will be done but until then we just have to pray to the god of Z that they don't go disco on us.

You are probably not running the beta .exe file just the normal file. What are you launch options in steam? (right click ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead in steam, then select "Set Launch Options").

Arma2 patch build 94997 now running on some servers

You need to overwrite the .dll from BE in two locations, one is in (if my memory is correct) in your ArmA 2 folder, same place as your @DayZ folder is. The other location is in your c:\user\<username>\local\ and somewhere there (I'm at work, I'll update this or someone else can give you exact location). I've been running BE v1.61.94945+ on 94786 all day without a problem, didn't crash once. Maybe not ideal but still it worked :) Run as administrator and see if that works. -
I've had a similar experience. Logged on a server, got me some gear, logged off. Logged in on a 2nd server, same gear, logged off. Logged on the day after on a 3rd server, no gear - new start - died, logged off. Logged on the 3rd server, same as the 3rd server - fresh spawn, logged off. Logged on the 4th server, got the gear that I had on the first 2 servers, logged off. Can't wait to see what next server will give me.. my old char or a fresh one, the suspense is killing me. This might be a stupid question, but is there a way to be 100% sure that the server you are connecting to is an official server?

- Game purchase only? (Guild Wars stylez) Not sure why you are just comparing to MMORGP's when it's a milsim/fps. If you look at most FPS they are almost all game purchase only (CoD has it's elite/premium package, that is the only one I could think of that has a monthly/yearly subscription). Free2play = pay2win, everyone knows this. Also: - Community developed or studio developed? Don't see why this can't be both, involve the community as much as possible (free workforce ftw?) while having a studio develop it. We all know the horror stories when studios get handed a great concept and they just completely fuck it up by not listening to the community. I think this partly explains why this game is growing by leaps and bounds. - Community or studio servers? or both? Both, if possible. - Kickstarter? or not? Completely up you, I don't see how this is going affect the game development. IMO, you guys should take things slowly. You've got a great thing going here and rushing into something new and exciting might not be the best plan. Take your time, evaluate the scenario at every step of the way and make sure you are making the product that you (and the community around you) want to make and not some studio exec or anyone else.
