DayZ, as a mod is now dead - roll on standalone
SteveMac555 replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
They might as well drop the mod - Players in the last 24hrs has been constantly dropping (by around 60,000 players now) so it's obvious the lack of updates/fixes and hacking situation is causing a problem. It would make the standalone much better if they dropped the mod and worked on that non-stop from now to December (which I believe is when an Alpha is due?) Rocket has already stated that some problems CAN'T be solved without moving to a standalone platform, so what's the point carrying on with the mod? -
I found a Bizon PP SD at a crash site the other day. Unfortunately I've got no ammo and never seen any for it! so haven't had chance to use it yet, these are apparently quite rare also. I've had a couple of FN FALs in my time though.

TROLOLOLOLOLOL fuck you and your camp bitch.

You complained and called them 'dupers' but took the hackers items? lol. Damn I never get that lucky in DayZ, everybody sees me before I see them and bang... -
DayZ Matchmaking Website?
SteveMac555 replied to chris p. bacon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Survivor, looking for Survivor. Must wear a cap, ginger beard and into hide and seek. Interests are running, crawling and collecting items. No time wasters. Sorry I had to! :) Your idea does sound interesting. -
Underground Exploring / Cave System / Mine
SteveMac555 replied to SteveMac555's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I didn't mean the original idea to be base-building, or even bases at all. Just an explorable (non-instanced) underground part of Chernarus that you can freely roam. The camps I mentioned in the original post were referring to the ones being made out of tents/wire etc. that is currently available now. -
Underground Exploring / Cave System / Mine
SteveMac555 replied to SteveMac555's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
That too. This would be quite easy to develop as it would be a part of the normal map (non-instanced) It wouldn't be made primarily for building camps/bases but it would be a good place to hide normal tent camps. As well as adding more areas to the map! -
Only when you're knocked out (e.g. due to low blood or just being hit) you can only inspect, hide and loot dead bodies. I am still haunted to this very day.
-
That's not entirely true....
-
Most likely, why wouldn't they? You wont see many in the forum as you probably don't know their gender from just a username (sometimes it's obvious though) and It's not like they broadcast it when posting.

What's more weird is when being knocked out and someone comes along and drags you away. Yes, this has happened to me and it is slightly creepy.

DayZ Standalone Game Class Perks.
SteveMac555 replied to Maks (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I wouldn't like any classes/perks. I think everyone should start equal, you're a survivor and have just been thrown into a dieing world with barely nothing. That's what makes this game great. -
The real backpacks of DayZ, how much they cost, and where you can buy them
SteveMac555 replied to bluebomber1942@yahoo.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I wonder if I bought a backpack, wore a cap and ran around the street with a hatchet.... Would I get recognised as a DayZ player? or locked up? -
[DayZMod] Do you have an API?
SteveMac555 replied to Pirata Nervo's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Whilst on the subject of API and Data - I posted this earlier in Suggestions which I think could be a useful idea for developing third party applications/plugins. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/72223-dayz-standalone-data-outputrealtime-api-from-the-game/ -
DayZ Standalone - Data Output/Realtime API from the game.
SteveMac555 posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Greetings, Firstly let me explain what I would like to suggest for the DayZ standalone game. DayZ Game to Output/Broadcast certain statistics about the game, environment and character in a specific format to be used with third party applications. The data would NOT come from the Hive database, or even the connected server. It would come from the actual game running on your PC as it receives the data. This would have NO performance implications and would be completely optional to turn on or off the data output. Why would this be useful? I am interested in developing home-made electronic devices with the Arduino and similar platforms. What I think would be a unique feature is be to be able to read the information being sent out from the game and display it in a physical format. This could be a small LCD screen, LEDs, Sounds or even a hud display on an Android/iOS device and have this sat in front of you whilst you play. It would also allow for data to be displayed on external LCD screens, G15/G19 keyboard screens and even the possibility of writing Teamspeak plugins to broadcast your stats to other group members. The list is endless. This has been done before but only with certain genres of games, such as racing games which can show your data/speed/track etc. on an Android/iOS phone or tablet at the side of you whilst you play. Not sure how many community members are into electronics and/or developing mobile applications but I thought this would be a good idea and wouldn't take up much development time at all. -
Would love to see more regular blog updates (maybe once a week) regarding the development of the game. Not just, [x] feature added, something else fixed - But actual technical information, problems and challenges that either need to be overcome or are being planned out right now. Things like programming solutions, design aspects, new art/models/UI concepts, engine modifications etc. I know writing a blog post only adds to the amount of work, but it shouldn't be a problem to make a weekly development blog update.

You don't fall if you don't look down. That's what I learned from the cartoons at least.

You sir, are not human. -
If you mean direct access to the server (e.g. to query it etc. then you can't and probably never will be able to) but if you're referring to making it a public persistent server you need to fill in a Web Request Form - The following is from the FAQ in this forum: Dedicated Servers Firstly, purchase and configure your DayZ server. Here's a few threads with information on how to configure your dedicated DayZ server: Install ARMA 2 & Operation Arrowhead on the server. Bohemia has a Wiki set up for this. Sign your server up for DayZ via the Web Request Form Wait for further instructions from the DayZ staff. (Please note, some threads indicate that the setup instructions included may not be accurate - can be build this out?) Once DayZ is installed you can continue you tweak to your hearts desire! Optimizing your server (EXCELLENT POST)

To all the scum at elektro hill
SteveMac555 replied to ixtilion's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I do see your point, but I always think back to what if that player finds a weapon in the next few minutes and finds me? If I get killed by that player I have lost everything I have worked hard for, wishing I would of shot on sight and got rid of him. The time difference between an unarmed player and a player that's out to kill you with a weapon can be as little as 30 seconds. Unless I know the person, I shoot on sight unarmed or not. Sniping the towns is just another play style, people do enjoy doing it and who are we to question them? People will eventually learn and either avoid the main areas where they're likely to be killed, or do something about it and go kill them. Either way - It's a part of the game and I think that it adds that extra 'danger' to going into larger towns. -
Would make sense killing people with the hunting knife, not too sure about assassination moves though. You're a survivor trying to get by in a zombie infested world. Id be more worried about getting eaten in my sleep than trying out new moves.

To all the scum at elektro hill
SteveMac555 replied to ixtilion's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Whilst I don't normally snipe I found one last week and decided to go to the major towns to rack up a few kills. It is fun sniping at people from miles away, I couldn't see myself sitting there for hours waiting though - You normally don't have to if you join a full 50 player server. It's the survival of the fittest, if you don't like it, don't play it. It happens a LOT. I see people running down the coast with an AK shooting freshly spawns quite often. If you really, really have to visit the larger towns then at least scope the place out first and take care before running in..... oh, BRB someone just ran into Elektro. -
DayZ TV, with handy-to-carry in-game TV idea.
SteveMac555 replied to Nasias's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I quite like that idea. Maybe pick up a portable video camera to link to your TV set. e.g. so you could keep an eye on your tents and camp while on the move. -
