The One, The Only: I HATE TEMP THREAD
Sankis replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My biggest issue with the temperature system right now is how the cold mechanics make no sense. Assuming this is just a regular strain of the common cold, there's no reason our bodies wouldn't be able to fight it off unless our immune systems were compromised. There's also the issue of colds not being something you get from cold weather and the term "cold" is a result of ignorance and also that antibiotics cannot help with viral infections. -
Patch 1.5.7 and this being an Alpha and fucking zombie spawns

Fair enough. Hopefully further tweaks will find a better spawn rate. -
Bandit skins definitely need to go. The idea that you can instantly tell whether someone will (probably) be a threat or not is silly. Where's the tension of not knowing if this person is going to shoot you or help you? There's no moment where you're looking out over a city with another human in your sights where you're contemplating ending his live just so you MIGHT live a few hours longer. There's none of that because you can instantly tell whether or not someone is a "bandit". I like the idea of having other possible tells, though ideally they should be vague. Bloody hands from looting a dead player would offer more tension and worry. Did he kill another survivor for his food or did he simply find a poor man who'd succumbed to the horde? Blood splatters from a close range kill? He's either been a bit too close to the zeds or he just executed someone. Using a sniper rifle? Perhaps he's that sniper picking off people in Cherno. Etc, etc. I understand why people would want separate "factions" but I really feel like it does the mod a disservice by gaming it a bit too much.

Well the patch notes do mention increasing zombie spawns. There was no reason for us not to assume it wasn't intentional. No need to get so snippy.

Yeah, this is definitely way too much now. There was an issue with population before but this is overboard. Cutting it to 1/4 or 1/2 might be nice. Up north you'd have maybe one zombie per village, though the major cities always struck me as fine. I'd be alright with zombies if there were fewer of the runners. I'm not opposed to running zombies or anything, but the way that ArmA 2 handles civilians is horrible. If it were maybe one in 10 zombies that ran it'd be much more tolerable, but right now it's impossible to do much at all. Offering suggestions such as using crossbows or using ammo "wisely" are not very good since you'd need to first find a crossbow (random spawn in certain buildings, very difficult due to new zombie numbers) and considering the lack of subtlety in this engine (along with inherent problems like AI seeing through walls) and iffy (at best) hit detection make none of that very viable.
