Are you running through steam? This is usually a sign that you are not running the game as "combined operations".

The Solution to Hacking
Disgraced replied to lukepeterhodgson@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Arma was designed to support cient side scripting. It's a huge hurdle to overcome, presumably. Overcoming it is the job of the people developing battleye, Arma and Dayz. I'm not one of those people. Are you? -
First line: Hotfix only to fix issues for the weekend

As to the point of complaining that you can't find a server... If you download right away, you are wanting to be on the bleeding edge. There may be one server, there may be none. The few servers running it might be full. The patch might not work for a few hours because of some unforeseen circumstance. If you want a more stable experience, or your choice of lists of servers, wait about six hours, keep playing on the prior patch, and relax and have a good time. As a side note, remember that the server admins are doing us, the community a service. We have no right to demand that they instantly update. They might have to wait until they get home from work or something. This has been a public service announcement.

RE: "Remove starter backpack?" Dont remove instead change it?
Disgraced replied to Tyler_Sharp's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Personal opinion, of course: No starting pack or at least remove that vest pouch. But in the grand scheme of things, I think of these as "later ponderances". I'm sur they will consider these kinds of things when backpacks work as planned. For alpha purposes, we can actually use backpacks, and they seem like a good idea :) -
That and things like... If name tags and range on, you can be spotted 400m away, by name, through the forest, for instance. Recruit servers just make it easier to find and shoot other players. Third person lets pele look around corners without exposing their character. Crosshairs... Well, I just find them annoying. These things remove a lot of tactical necessities from the players skill set, and hence "recruit" vs "veteran". In my opinion, of course.

The hackers own the game now.
Disgraced replied to david.mcentee@live.co.uk's topic in New Player Discussion
So, it's kind of a technology race. But battleye has to work for everyone, and the script builders can fail repeatedly and their "userbase" can just shrug until it works. If script users get banned, they have little recourse. I'm sure they don't blame the actual script writer (the one actual person that you might call a hacker in a crowd). Battleye works certain ways and has to follow certain rules and work within that set. New cheats come out, and battleye has to react to them. This is all on top of a game that was designed to work EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE of how we are all now trying to use it. We are all, truthfully, suffering with this hacking because BI was too trusting of their user base. I would guess that the game will be stronger than the mod on anti cheating. I would also say that we all just need to do our best to ply rough seas at this point. Continually posting that battleye should go or stop being used is irrelevant to the discussion. I'm sure people understand the concept of business contracts and the obligations thereto. Arma is tied to battleye. DayZ is an Arma mod. -
Speculation can be a dangerous thing.

It depends on the server and when you play. I play during morning, weekday hours (US), and I am particular about my server choices. I've never seen, been bothered by or had to deal with any scripters. I HAVE found obviously hacked weapons, but that's it. I'd suggest that there are rough criteria that you are encountering that might be avoidable: Time that you play (toughest to adjust, usually can't do much about this) Server choice (the more players, the more audience for the scripters ego) Admin awareness and participation (is the server effectively just sitting there without admin monitoring of any kind) Luck (yeah, it sucks sometimes) As for myself, I just help out here and there with the forums. Since I've been fortunate, I'm able to have fun playing. It's quite obvious that there is a lot of frustration overall, and everyone is aware of it.

Yes, that is the latest Arma II beta file: http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php/ Remember that those of us playing DayZ are following TWO tracks. Arma beta, as the link above, and the DayZ alpha, which are the mod files put out by rocket and team.

Your opinion has been noted. As your opinion. Edit: I would say in addition to the lucid reply in the post above, it's helpful to think of things like this.... Features being worked on (aka any broken ones), and especially the high profile issues that already have a lot of feedback, as temporary as they continue to try things and adjust to see how they work. -

Also, dead guy holding CZ is a pretty good bet. You call them players, but they're really mobile spawn point concentrations. -
G36 is hacked in. Quite popular with our scripting nemeses.

Help with my Deteriorating Performance
Disgraced replied to spinoabw@hotmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
You'd have to ask the genius bar. They can be pretty helpful even in non warranty situations. I just realized that the file permissions thing doesn't matter. Are you running boot camp? Not Parallels or something? What version of windows? -
ENDGAME: what keeps you entertained?
Disgraced replied to Jay Shack's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sweeping the northern forests and fields. I found a fly able helicopter the other day. That helped me find some vehicles and a large camp. I found three vehicles full of hacked vehicles, blew them up with grenades from on board, then almost got shot and ran off. Unfortunately, server restarted. I'm now comfortably watching someone's camp from 500 meters, through a scope.... -

What brand of plastic wrap? I don't know the operating temps of that laptop, but supposedly Intel CPU processors are rated to operate at 100c for their whole operating life. Anyway, your other components can't take that much heat. I do t think the game is deteriorating your machine, but constant high temp operation might be. You might try verifying your permissions (it's in the disk utility). Your friends are right about your setup, but if it works for you, more power to you. -
Maybe your Tab key is stuck?

Maybe you installed the crate spawnning scripts improperly... Since that happens to be the key that spawns them when you have the scripts set up?
