Is there any way to get out of debug fields alive?
Momiji replied to chunkeymonkey79's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Your option is to hit Esc and then respawn, seriously it'll be faster to regear than to try and run out without knowing the direction to run inland. -
Is there any way to get out of debug fields alive?
Momiji replied to chunkeymonkey79's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Fresh spawn: No, you won't survive the run (Starvation and Dehydration) Glitched Spawn: DO NOT MOVE, Once you move, your character data is saved in the debug field/forest, if you spawn in the area marked "Wilderness" just abort and relog in and you'll spawn with all your stuff at the coast. -
Getting away from Zombies is easy. You can, run through a building with 2 exits (Really really common on the coast), Weave in and out of trees in the forest or you can find a steep enough hill that your character slow walks down (Zombies die trying to follow downhill). Zombies are as they are because otherwise they aren't a threat, once you have a gun they are just an annoyance but still easy to avoid. Pretty much the reason you don't start with a Makarov is because it was so easy (Plus coast killing for more ammo). During the daytime, don't walk across roads either, you make a lot more noise on the paved terrain so crawling in prone is best, also the Hack "99999" is not a hacked weapon, it's just how many swings the crowbar/hatchet has before needing to be reloaded (Weird but true). Edit: Forgot the fourth way, train all your aggroed zombies into someone else.

I run with a group, usually we set out in pairs, so if i die my partner has already killed the guy, so i run back to get my stuff. We just raid places and try to improve our tactics and coordination while doing so. Having a group is much more fun.

The save feature on vehicles is the same as tents, meaning the save option is for the gear inside the vehicle. Each vehicle has a storage space, weapon slots, item slots etc. From 0 slots (Boats) to well over 100 (URAL) The vehicles location is saved each time everyone exits the vehicle, though on one occasion a motorbike was saved after only i got off.

Shot friend - Re-spawned with all gear he died with
Momiji replied to -nick-'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This can happen if you don't wait for the timer after you die, the "Please wait 5 seconds before respawning" Basically you exit before the game saves your death to the hive/server. At least that's my theory since it's happened to me when i've been impatient when i get killed. -
Official word on simply dropping dead?
Momiji replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
AS50 and M107 have effective ranges of around 1000m, think around 1200m, the AS50 has an audible range of around 200m. Both of these are .50 cal with a 1 shot kill to the body or the head. Chances are if you drop dead randomly in a building with windows, you were sniped. Though there are some bugs which may cause death. Also occasionally when you are 1 hit killed, you die so fast your blood doesn't register the hit. -
There are no safe places in a zombie apocalypse, zombies don't care if you declare a town to be safe they'll still kill you in it. Even if the towns were safe as said, snipers will have a field day, either that or toss lots and lots of frags over the walls. Play another game if you want safe zones or just get less attached to your gear/life.

lost another car, what a waste of time
Momiji replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Vehicles are probably the best reason to kill out there, since only so many are on a server. Guess you've never been in a group and had your 4-6 vehicles stolen during the night. -
Firestation Tip - Escape the tower quickly glitch
Momiji replied to WiredAttendant's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
All you do is go in the firestation tower and line yourself up with the ladder and the climb icon comes up, nothing that special and not that useful unless your trapped by zombies/players and have no weapon. You have a high ground advantage in the tower, they have one way up and have to move awkwardly to get up the stairs. The bigger threat is the sniper 500-800m away lining you up in the tower or on the roof/ladder. -
Firestation Tip - Escape the tower quickly glitch

Climb the ladder down straight into a sniper scope. Awesome. Your more likely to get killed by a sniper in the hills than a player in the city while in Cherno/Elektro. -
Ten Reasons why Kill on Sight is 'Realistic'
Momiji replied to Rogo Ignoscant's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My thoughts on grouping up with another survivor just stemmed to. Pros: Extra Eyes and Ears. Different Skill Set. Covering more ground. Cons: Extra Mouth. Possibly infected. Possibly Sick. Possibly Crazy. Possibly Useless. Easier to see. Easier to hear. Possibility of backstabbing. Call me a socio-path/psychotic or whatever you want, but in a hypothetical zombie apocalypse, big group of survivors trying to rebuild the old order seems like a giant come eat us sign to me. But then if the zombie apocalypse rolled around, i just kill myself so i wouldn't be eaten, since it'd be kind of a pointless life trying to survive till i died of old age, wouldn't want to put up with 50+ years of zombies. -
In the future, electro and churno are history!
Momiji replied to moofactory's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I like the Russian setting, Day Z has actually given me some sembelance of map reading and orienteering skills just from being at a pond and looking around and saying "Oh i'm not to far from Stary". Chernarus is a great map, nice ranges, forests, fields and towns plus the cities and it all looks like it's been in the zombie apocalypse for a good while with all the rust and decay on buildings. -
Sitting around a campfire in the most scary place on the map at night telling ghost stories reminds me of "Are you afraid of the dark?" nostalgia and good reads win/win.

Why are there loads of tents in Elektro
Momiji replied to z-layrex's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Tents in the cities are very common traps bandits use, killing players when they stop to loot them, the trap ones are usually in very open areas like intersections or yards. Be wary of them since the never have loot anyway. -
So after listening to friends i got to play Day Z and reading a fair bit on the forums of complaints and other mediums such as Youtubers i watch frequently, i figured i may as well discuss my opinions on the matter and also ask what everyone else thought about the complaints and if they were just or not. First off i'll start with the things every single one of my friends has complained about and that is. Snipers: Listing the snipers available first we have. The BAF AS50. The Barrett M107. The CZ550. The DMR. The M14. The M24. The SVD Camo. Being a little bit of a firearms enthusist i look up a few sniper rifles and other such things (Never fired one sadly) and lets take in the most sought out and commonly seen (In my experiences) most players use. The AS50, M107 and DMR. A lot of my friends complain about the 1 hit kill and long range effectiveness of the snipers when they play, sometimes after i've been freshly picked off i agree but then i think about the realism of the game and remember what i looked up. The AS50: .50 BMG Anti-Materiel Rifle, in real life the effective range of the AS50 is up to 1,500 meters (1,600 yards). The Barrett M107: .50 BMG Anti-Materiel Rifle, real life effective range is 1,829 meters (2000 yards). The DMR: Filling a gap between Infantry and Sniper in military the effective range is in between 550 meters and 1000 meters, so we'll say 800 meters for clarity (I'm not a soldier just what i read when bored). To address the one shot death the M107 and AS50 deal at long range, look at the longest confirmed sniper kill shots in the world and then being pinged at 800 meters or 1000 meters isn't so unrealistic any more. Damage wise, the .50 BMG can when used on infantry in it's effective range with a clean hit, basically for lack of better words pop you like a grape, center mass is a kill, headshot is a kill, basically the only surviving is an extremity (Hands, Feet etc) while the DMR is pretty easily able to drop a target in 1-3 clean shots. So next time you get killed by a sniper, remember in the real world you would have probably just exploded into a bloody cloud or at least part of your body would have. Stay low, stay hidden and remember the vantage points and nests that are used and find blindspots. My tip is go to the sniper spots and look at what they see, most snipers don't move much, find the blind spots of their nests and then stick to them when you respawn and loot a city. Location Knowledge is the best thing you can have when looting places. Next on the list my friends complain with is. Loading/Creating Character/Full all the time Servers. This issue comes up a lot when my friends try to play with me especially on the ANZ servers, granted it is a pain and a waste of time but you'd probably die in the next hour anyway so why rush. I just remind them they are playing a mod, in it's alpha that receives no monetary gain from the people playing it (Unless you donate) and then i list off all the things that have bugged out in-game that i'd prefer to be fixed rather than being able to get in faster. Loot disappearing, Tents bugging, Zombies hitting/running through walls, Hackers and the list goes on, at least i can eventually play Day Z if i be patient enough, but loot disappearing and tents bugging is much more detrimental to my enjoyment. Watch a movie while playing, read a book, have a smoke (If you smoke) or just look stuff up on the net while waiting, distract yourself and it'll go much faster. This also answers the last part, if you spend say 20 minutes just getting in to a server, you aren't going to give up your spot, just find another server or wait it out nothing else you can do. This is just a big Free For All Deathmatch: This is more common than anything i see and i have a nice answer to it. It's the medium of the survival horror genre that makes it like this, not the game. Some examples are. George Romero's Of The Dead series. Dead Island. Dead Rising. 28 Days Later (Not a zombie flick but survival horror) In each of these, the main character encounters, Zombies, Survivors and you guessed it Bandits. Day of the Dead: Science and Military working together to find other survivors and a cure to the infection, Military side slowly going insane with the emotional turmoil of losing comrades and being in a losing battle. Key reason behind the slow insanity: The are not distracted! Scientists are working day in and day out on experiments and tests, while the Military have nothing to do because they are in a fortified location. Fighting Zombies and Survivors alike. Dawn of the dead has fortified survivors being raided by bandits for their location which was a prime defended and safe spot. Dead island and Dead Rising have Psychopaths and Survivors. Don't blame Day Z for following what the genre is, in the zombie genre survivors are always the biggest threat while zombies are minor until the survivors are to distracted with each other and the horde gets close. Bandits: Everyone hates dying, it's a pain, you start over yeah we get it. But that is what keeps the game interesting, you have so many options when killed. Do i start over like i did before? Do i go and hunt that SOB down? Do i rethink and go else where? Do i kill someone else to vent my anger? Bandits keep this game alive and i thank them for it, if i got to sit around with my Heli Crash loot and never lose it, what is the point of playing or getting past the starting guns. What would the point be of making a base and stocking up unless you eventually had your camp raided and then spent a day hunting the culprit or refilling the stocks and travelling else where. Kill on Sight Mentality: Seems now every one is making a thread on "I got killed/back-stabbed/decieved now i KoS" first thing is, get over it, it happens to all of us. I got shot by someone who said he was friendly, i get attacked by people, i get back-stabbed and i deal with it by starting again and make a note to pop a Makarov into his ass when i see him next. Friendly players exist! I have had a group of 6 or 8 players leave me alone and offer me to join them, i have a helped a person having trouble equip a hatchet get on his way, giving blood transfusions in the middle of Cherno and also killed people and looted the stuff. How you play the game is how you earn experiences, you are never going to meet a friendly if you shoot everyone you see, the game is realistic and so are the interactions, i'm sure you've been deceived and back-stabbed before in your life, why should people not take advantage of it in-game. Personally it's just an aspect of the game to do it, convince someone your a friend and then rob them of their stuff or life, it's a pain in the ass when you fall for it but then you remember next time not to be so quick to lower the cross hairs. ---- That's all for now, i don't care if it's pointless to write this or you disagree, i felt like just stating something id had on my mind for a few days, leave your own opinions/comments/beans or if you have something people complain about to you, let me know and i'll add my opinion to this post. TL;DR Version: Stop Complaining and just enjoy yourself.

People make the difference. I was playing a a session today with a few people we found some vehicles and i got picked up on an ATV to go pick one up, little did i know i was on returning the old bike a guy rode out to take a car while following the ATV cause i had no idea where the base was (Had no map). In the span of ride across the map on a damn bike behind an ATV we had plenty of laughs like me almost flipping down a hill, him running into a fountain and getting stuck between debris and reversing out. Then we come to a bridge, the ATV flips and we freak out trying to get it back up. I ram the wheels with the old bike to flip it and flip it i did, 50m's down the road in a pile of trees and it soon exploded, so now we trek it on foot, me on the bike trying to not run over my partner trying to figure out what the hell happened and laughing all the way.

I find making mini-games for myself and other people is a good way to pass the time in game, street racing through Elektro/Cherno, Makarov Gang Wars in a random town. Not that player hunting isn't fun either, the chase is just as good if not better than the actual fight, sniper nesting and never being seen bores me to hell, fire fights are great like my 2 v 1 (I was the 1) fighting over a Heli Crash site, MP5SD didn't have the range to kill them but was a great moment and i took my death honourably after surviving shock, a broken leg and 2 times bleeding during the fight. All depends on what your willing to lose and who you play with really, but any game gets boring when you hit the ceiling of it's current release.

General discussion, offering my opinion on various things i see people complain about and asking for other peoples opinions on the matter. Friendly discussion i guess instead of the normal i hate this this and this things i see all day.

Zombie Survival Mod. Let's take a quick glance at some of the other mediums out there that also provide a similar experience. Romero's of the Dead series. We have our zombies. Dawn of the Dead: Survivors trying to stay alive and fortifying a shopping mall with only a helicopter access point, then we have the bandits who break in to steal, plunder and pillage everything. Day of the Dead: Survivors banding together to find a cure, half slowly being driven into insanity by the increasing emotional trauma and looming defeat. Land of the Dead: Zombies have essentially taken over the world, Survivors scavenging for supplies while one group decides instead to take for themselves rather than be a worker/team. Gaming has the same in nearly all ways, Dead Island has psychos, bandits and other human threats, Dead Rising has psychopaths. So shall we classify each bandit into it's own group. Kill for Supplies: Uncaring Survivor. Kill for Boredom: Psychotic Survivor. Kill for defense: Cautious Survivor. Point is in nearly every single medium their are both zombies and survivors to deal with, Day Z just puts it onto a non scripted scale with a much larger location. I'd have quit a few days after starting if all i could kill or be killed by were zombies, cause let's face it, in any medium of the zombie survival storyline, the zombies are the minor threat, it's the other survivors that are the major threats to safety.

Would just like to thank these guys for making my evening. Started out a little awkward but once everything settled down and i got to talking, picked up by Tasty Steak on an ATV and rode a push bike a good half way across the map. Sadly the ATV flipped and i ended up ramming it with the bike and it shot off 50m down the road and proceeded to explode. Was really fun and made my night, hoping to play again and chat with everyone.

Waiting for character and loading screen
Momiji replied to Gumzz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Having trouble getting in but with perseverance succeeding, while some bugs are dominant within the game like disappearing loot and other things that hinder the enjoyment in the mod itself. I've had the issue myself, i just have a movie playing while i play Day Z so i have something to distract me while i wait. -
Waiting for character and loading screen
Momiji replied to Gumzz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Basically just Server Overload, happens to everyone. Wait 3 minutes on the screen then either return to the lobby and try again or try a different server. With never ending loading just restart the game. Nothing else you can do and i'm sure the devs know it's happening, probably other things to worry about like hacking and all the other fixes needed that mess up game play while in-game, right now the creating character and loading problems are random while some bugs are 100% to happen those i assume are higher priority. -
Just learn to deal with it, i hate trees more than bandits anyway they kill me more but anyway. I like doing the Cherno/Elektro speed runs and i have no care about zombies since i just spawned so i'm the idiot running full speed through Cherno just to make it quicker. Heading inland is easier than going to the cities, running to Vybor from Kamenka nets a few Supermarkets on the way to get food and survival tools anyway. And if you don't want to kill people. One thing that is more fun than just sniping someone from a distance is placing a shot right next to them and watching them freak out through your scope for the next 10 minutes.

Stuff like this is getting sad to hear about. Admins just need to accept their stuff is vulnerable like every other player/groups is.
