  1. I see so many people that complain about the lack of autorun in this game. There is an easy way to create one yourself. 1. Launch DayZ through STEAM. 2. Once you are in a game n want to start running do the following: Hold down your movement key (W) While doing this, open your STEAM overlay (Shift+Tab) Release your movement key once the STEAM overlay is open You should see your character is still running while the overlay is open Close the overlay & your character should still be running 3. You can do anything that doesn't hinder movement such as steering with your mouse, free look around, etc... Enjoy
  2. Hey, I was having severe FPS issues with DayZ & I couldn't understand why (short specs: i5-2500k, 8gig ram, 560ti). I was constantly having ~30FPS, even with everything as low as possible. Now I spent some time tweaking & googling and I managed to drive my FPS up to 40-50 on decent settings (which still suprises me for a 3year old game, on a pc that I bought half a year ago & that can run more recent games at higher detail w more FPS). There was one last tweak I made, which was adjusting the launch options with a line that I found on an ARMA2 optimization thread: Mainly the -cpucount=4 is what I cared about. For some reason this launch options line made my FPS shoot up to 100-120 when trying various Arma2 missions. Yet since I use sixlauncher to play DayZ, the launchoptions aren't ported over (i asume because sixlauncher uses some sort of script). Now my goal is pretty simply: I want to be able to play DayZ at a similar framerate as I run arma2 at now, which the launchline parameters seem to have done. Which would either be done through being able to trick sixlauncher into using those launch parameters or through simply being able to play it through steam. I know there is a way to play DayZ through steam already, but that involves manually updating the game every time a patch comes out I believe, which doesn't instantly appeal to me knowing the game is in alpha. I also found this on the steamforums:
  3. As of now, alot of the gameplay related problems with DayZ are related to how the game closes. I've read about the radio-tower posted by a DayZ staff member (http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/29313-some-feature-ideas-requesting-feedback/), though I believe this is a terrible way to fix this issue (for reasons which I won't discuss here, unless people want to know my reasoning). As of result, I've worked out something similar. 1) Abort-Disconnect to reset zombies, a highly efficient way to quickly get to certian places to avoid zombies. 2) Alt+F4ing when being under fire, instantly saving yourself from any harm (and sometimes even rollbacking a kill or damage done!) 3) Server hopping to quickly farm high valued lootspawns. 4) Server hopping to safely get to a certain position, to sneak up on players. Anybody who has played WoW knows about the delay when loging out in a non-rested zone. I would propose a delay similar to this to be implemented in DayZ. A. A delay of 5 minutes when logging out of the game. This immediatly kicks in when you start playing the game. If a player alt+F4's, his character will still remain visible and killable in the game for that duration aswell. --> (1) This delay can be reduced to 1 minute by logging out in a forest. --> (2) This delay can be reduced to 10 seconds by being at a burning campfire. --> (3) The delay will only kick in after being active in-game for 15 seconds. Reasoning: (1) Newly geared players might not have the tools necisarry to make a campfire, though, closing the game in a forest is safe, most of the time. I doubt a player who can't even make a campfire would value his character so high that he wouldn't dare to leave his character unattended for 1 minute in a forest. (2) Nobody wants to wait forever to close the game, hence why there should be a way to reduce the timer significantly. If a player believes has the time to make a campfire & not be spotted, one can say he isn't anywhere close to being attacked. (3) Some people serverjump when they start playing the game because they do or do not want a night-time server. Like me personally, the game is impossible for me to play on certain servers, even with gamma & brightness fully turned up. For these situations, there should be a way to still get off the servers while not being affected by the delay. ==> Result: Alt-F4ing is impossible, people can still safely logout without having to wait forever, avoiding zombie aggro is impossible aswell. B. A delay of 5 minutes when logging on a new server, after having suffered logout delay. This delay doubles every time somebody tries to logon to a new server while being in the same "session". Sessions are period of 1hour of not being active in the game. Examples: 1) Player X boots his computer, starts up DayZ, plays for 2 hours, logs off on a campfire. After logging off, player X goes to play Counter-Strike for 1hour. Then Player X logs back onto DayZ. Player X will suffer no login delay. 2) Player Y boots his computer, starts up DayZ, plays for 2 hours, logs off on a campfire. After logging off, player Y tries to connect to a different server immediatly. Player Y will have to wait 5 minutes before he's able to connect to any other server except his previous one. If Player Y does wait 5 minutes, logs in on a different server, suffers another logout delay & tries to log a new server again, the delay will now be 10 minutes. The next time he repeats this scenario it will be 20, 40, etc... Note: Only your previous server will have no login delay. Say a player has log'd UK12, US190 and DE43 in the past hours (in this order). If he disconnects from DE43, he will only have no login delay when connecting to DE43. There will be login delay again on UK12 and US190 untill he resets his "session." Note: One can still safely disconnect n do something else for less than an hour, as long as you connect to your old server again. This "fix" will prevent players from server-hopping for loot or sneaking up on people almost fully. Server-hopping isn't worth it at all like this anymore, especially not past the first "jump". Sneaking up on players can still be done (since often ppl camp the same spot for extended amounts of time (sometimes even for hours), though it is greatly reduced in effectiveness. To fully fix the sneaking up on players through server hopping, I propose the following C. Somewhat similar to the Radio-Tower that was proposed, I suggest the implementation of a radar. The radar would do only 1 thing: if a player with login delay spawns in a vincinity of 200 (radius to be elaborated) meters of the player carrying the radar, it will give you a warning in the chatbox saying: "A player with XX minutes login delay has spawned in your area." Snipers would have a way of preventing serverhoppers from sneaking up on them this way, though they'd have to make an effort to do so. Spawnlocations & rarity of the item are still to be determined, though it should go on the toolbelt. This is my full idea of how I think the issue should be adressed. It's alot simpler than the radio tower, isn't as exploitable & is way more effecient in my opinion. Please give your feedback and criticism (since I obviously might've missed a few things) & if you support my idea, keep this thread up so the developers can see it aswell!
  4. I actually really like the idea of adding seconds to your DC timer when shots are being fired in your vincinity. Really good idea imo. And to the people saying you need to serverjump to find day/night server, I also implemented the possibility for that in my post, so I don't really see why that would be a problem.
  5. Hey, I came back home today after being gone for a couple of days & was very excited to play the new patch! After I installed everything, I log'd in, only to find my character being gone. I tried several servers, got myself killed twice, but I never got my old character back (which literally had perfect gear). Anyhow, I was wondering if anybody had the same n managed to fix it somehow since I really would like to get my character back with all the gear it had. Any help would be welcome really. (Note: I'm not whining, I know it's alpha & tough luck for me if I lost it & won't be able to retrieve it. I just want to know if anybody has similar issues and managed to fix it).
  6. Pretty sure there shouldve been atleast 1 HIVE server. Was on a server that my friend logged onto fine. Reason I killed myself is because in the past I had this aswell, but then respawning would simply fix it. And yes, I spawn ont he coast aswell, like I started a new character.
  7. I have no idea what this cqf clan is, but this shit is epic
  8. Hi, I've submitted this TWICE now at the server reporting forum, but for some reason it isn't getting approved: I honestly don't get how this cannot be dealt with. If I could run third-party video capture software, I would, but even though I have a damn fine desktop, I still cannot fraps DayZ because of the shitty ARMA2 engine eating up my pc. I cannot see how it can be demanded to run third-party software in order to deal abusive admins. An easy solution would be a demoing feature such as counter-strike has. Even though, I can't see how such a thing is necisarry for something this straightforward. Do ARMA2 servers not have serverlogs or anything? Every action that was done by this admin should be visible in server event-logs. I cannot see how a screenshot would be of any evidence either. What could we have taken a screenshot off? The "you have been kicked from the game window?" How exactly does that prove anything at all? It could be taken at any given moment on another server. It doesn't reveal anything about the actions of the admin. Even server monitoring sites such as http://arma2.swec.se/server/data/271774 show a million times more information/evidence than a screenshot of a kickmessage would. It pisses me off greatly, knowing that this guy is getting away with this, while he abused his admin powers to the fullest & only reaps the benefits of it. In the end, dieing has granted him & his friend with a fully repaired hilux with an insane amount of loot in it and a dirtbike. If I could run Fraps in arma2, I gladly would. I'd love to capture epic moments (like these kills were, regardless of the admin abusing his power) like this. Yet there is absolutely no logic in requiring video footage to provide evidence in server-related activity. Especially not when such footage can only be acquired through third party software & there is no in-game demo function. TL:DR: Why should a player run third-party software, which stresses your system massively, to prove the abusive actions of an admin? Every action an admin does should be recorded in the eventlog of a server.
  9. Something really has to be done about admin abuse in general. Some admin got mad after we killed him & his friend after tailing him epicly, surrounding them & taking them out. Then he kicked the entire server and locked it. Tried to report it twice, but the topic was never even posted on the server report forum. I asume it is because we couldn't provide any evidence, though I assumed server logs would clearly show everything. Not everybody can use/run fraps, there is no demo feature ingame as far as i know and screenshots prove nothing in such a scenario. Makes me wonder if ARMA2 servers actually don't have event logs or something? I gave a pinpoint accurate description of what happened, it was a clear abuse of admin powers & he's just getting away with it, while we lost a hilux filled with the loot of 3 helicopters & a dirtbike.

    Knocked out on log in?

It's a bug caused by loging out with shock once. Just go in shock again (ask your friend to shoot you in the foot or something) and sit it out properly, it'll be fixed. I had the exact same issue yesterday.

no need to go against alt f4 :-)

Not sure what game you are playing. 1) If they alt-F4, their body wiill despawn almost every single time. 2) In High-risk areas, many people seem to be having their finger on the alt-F4 button while they are looting the fucking NWAF/Stary 3) If they have any desync when they get shot & they alt-F4 their character simply rollbacks. In short: You're clueless, shut the f*ck up. And then im not even talking about your fucktarded "if you don't headshot them, they deserve to alt-F4" logic.
  12. You have to know where to look. Some spots are really common, though I doubt anyone is gonna reveal their secrets (neither am I) Half true, losing items while swimming is dependant of a serverside setting now. EDIT: And some things about what people say in here, > Skalisty Island isn't thát popular. But the few times you find camps there, they will be huge. Though, there are way more efficient spots on the map to hunt for tents. > Looking on highpop servers isn't what matters, the main two things that lead to succes serverswise are going on servers with low serial numbers & clanservers. > Always look down from uphil, that gives you the most chance. Rarely people apply strats as placing them behind rocks so they are visible from below but not from above. > There is one spot which is pretty much jackpot on every server you log on to, I won't reveal it, maby somebody else will in this thread & if you apply some common sense and combine the ingame map with the dayzdb map, you should be able to easily locate it. (Atleast the group i play with found tents there on about 66% of the servers we went on). > Walking down the line from Southwest to northwest is way to much effort (seriously it is), you can have way more succes once you figured out a few of the hotspots. Ive done it a few times, rarely had any succes & never found a big camp like I did on the spot I mentioned before (where ive found multiple huge ones). Happy hunting

    Trade: Dragunov SVD (Camo)

As long as Alt-F4ing isn't fully fixed, I doubt any 2-hit sniper other than the DMR is worth anything. Even though the SVD camo looks cool n is one of the rarest weapons in-game, i'd take a M107 or AS50 over it any day right now.
  14. 1) Don't chose 50+ player servers. 2) Never encounter hackers. I've come across a hacker once since I started playing this game 1.5months ago & that was when i went on a really high pop server.
  15. If you want realism you might want to consider other aspects first such as those that I suggested earlier: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/55481-yes-another-get-rid-of-sniper-guns-whine/#entry530870 . Loot cycling is far from an efficient method aswell, server jumping is way bigger of an issue. Yet nerfing tents has absolutely no relevance to that. Nerfing a perfectly viable mechanic in order to reduce the effectiveness of a bug instead of fixing the bug? What kind of stupid-ass logic is that. Loot cycling & duping are bugs. Report them so they get fixed, They have nothing to do with realism or tents.
  16. No, you're just another whiner. Duping is already a known bug and I'm sure it's being looked into. They already fixed duping in various ways, it's only a matter of time till it's fully fixed. If you'd genuily care about the game, you'd be posting this stuff in the suggestions/bug reports forums instead of whining about it in GD. Similar to how I made a long post, which is cited in my signature, about how I think altF4ing should be fixed. Or similar to how I posted various descriptions & screenshots in the artifact thread, helping to get that fixed. Just because I don't bitch like a little whiny kid on GD, doesn't mean I don't try to help Rocket in any way I can to make this mod even better than it already is. And yes, I'm happy with the broken game, incredibly happy infact. DayZ is a very innovative game, completely different from anything else I've ever played. And I'm really thankful that I'm able to play it already, even if it's a unstable, broken version because it's in its alpha stage. If DayZ was like most other games, I'd probably have to wait another year (atleast) before I could even get to know it, let alone play it. So I'll gladly take DayZ in its current stage, along with the millionns of glitches, bugs, instabilities, hackers, etc... for now.

    Could I run Dayz Mod?

I'm running it on my laptop with everything on the lowest possible in 640x480 resolution. Looks horrible & I get around 15-30FPS with the occasional FPS choke, but it's playable. My specs: Pentium Dual Core CPU T4300 @2.1GHz 3gig ram Ati Mobility Radeon HD 4300 Series So if your pc is any worse than that, trust me you won't be able to run it. I don't know what is up with the ARMA2 engine, but it analy rapes any pc with a 20inch strapon. I recently bought a new desktop, I can run pretty much any game on highest detail as of now, yet ARMA2 still requires me turn some shit down because else I'm sitting on 15FPS on that machine aswell. EDIT: And yes, DayZ is alot harder on your system than anything in arma2/arma2OA is. On my desktop, when I load chernarus in the arma2 armory I can go around on it with 130FPS, while in a dayz game I only getg 60-80FPS with the same settings (on my desktop).

    Do Ghillie suits exist

Friend of mine found a ghillie in a house in vybor. Five minutes later he found a heli crash with another 2 ghillies and a camo. Same guy found a ghillie in the first house he went into on a respawn. Me & a friend found 2 in the office in Berezino. All in 1.7.2.4, so yes, they defo spawn & I've never seen so many of them. I'd dare to say the droprate was even increased, they're everywhere.
  19. How is it an excuse when it's a fact. The game is in its alpha stage. In the vast majority of the games that come out, alpha isn't ever publicly availible. Be happy you are able to play this game so early. If you can't stand playing an alpha, along with the consequences, then delete the mod & wait till it's released. Also I don't get that you whine about this when it comes to realism. Instead maby ask to get this added: > Players now have to take a piss/go shit depending on the food/drinks they consumed. > Consuming to many pasta cans and drinking to much coke will cause your character to become morbidly obese. > Your character now has to rest for 4-6 weeks when breaking a bone, rather than taking a shot of morphine. > Food no longer restores blood. These seems alot more significant when it comes to realism than a man being able to hold 2 camping tents.
  20. A bug in the alpha stage of a game, what is this madness. I'm sitting on my chair with 2 tents behind me in real life right now. What kind of twisted reality am i living in? An unfinished aspect in a game in alpha stage, what is this madness

    Trading m4 silence with camo

An L85 is slightly more valuable in my eyes, a satchel charge is worth less. Satchel charges are a one-time fun thing to use, the M4A1 CCO SD is such an amazing weapon. Once you start using it, you never want anything else anymore.

    rocket: where is 1.7.2.5?!

You better cool your entousiasm down. It's an alpha patch, it may or may not even fix the artifacts & make everybody who has a military flashlight on their toolbelt turn into rabbits and explode for all that we know.
