Server: Initial implementation for Sub-Private Hives (ongoing)Server: Initial implementation for regular & hardcore Public Hive Never heard of these before. Please explain? -Joker

"Your character was unable to be loaded and has been reset. A system administrator has been notified. Please reconnect to continue." I got this while I was frequently re-loading the game to test graphics tweaks. Is this an actual error, or is the hive punishing me because it thinks I'm server hopping? -Joker

I've killed people on sight multiple times. I didn't want to kill on sight, but it was the only sensible option. Two players who meet will logically kill each other every time, even if they are both non-offensive players. My only point here is, the standard objection that we all need to "be free to play the game how we want to play" sounds great, but it's not a valid objection because any player who wants to have a real interaction with other players isn't free to play how they want. Currently there is only one style of play in DayZ, and that doesn't make for meaningful emergent gameplay. But, obviously, the game's in early development. -Joker

Trolled hard. -Joker

Yes, sorry if this is beating the dead horse. To be fair, search function is usually for questions that need answering, and this isn't really a question. I just wanted the opportunity to make an important point as clearly as possible. -Joker

That's one option, and a pretty good one. There may be other options. I look forward to what the devs come up with. -Joker

Also wondering this. Planning to keep a tally count of zed kills. -Joker

Some of us don't have top-of-the-line graphics cards. Focusing on an object in the distance with zoom makes perfect sense. -Joker

Where is the file that contains configuration information for DayZ, including video settings? What is the name of that file? -Joker

Thanks kichilron. I only see what looks like a few video settings there. Where are key assignments, audio, etc stored? -Joker

Unsilenced guns ---> Too much noise, attract horde ---> Death Silenced guns ---> Ammo nonexistent, encounter zombies unprepared ---> Death Melee weapons ---> NO control over zombie hit evasion ---> Death Crossbow ----> Arrows rare, impossible to reuse, takes forever to reload ---> Death I'm sick of the hatchet and crossbow being broken when they are the only realistic option while the zombies' hearing is working. Either one of them needs to be fixed to be more reliable, or hatchet needs to be a secondary weapon so that you can use them both at once. QQ -Joker

DayZ weapons analysis 1.7.5

Yes. The revolver is pretty loud as pistols go but it's still a pistol. I shot it once and zombies came at me from behind buildings 200m away. -Joker -
DayZ weapons analysis 1.7.5

It's great. The hatchet and crossbow have always been broken, long before this patch. Zombie hearing works great, it's a job well done. It's just impossible to use guns now in any circumstances other than taking on a horde, which is fine, except for how it leaves you with no more options if you're trying to sneak around and go about less violent business. -Joker -

[removed cause I'm too mean] -Joker -
D&D player, are we? This is a nice idea, but I'm not sure how it'll be helpful. I've never had much reason to stay in one place for any amount of time. Can you give us some examples? -Joker

A public ladder ranking of each player's humanity score. sub-suggestions for this: 1. "checking in" while in proximity to other live players gives a humanity bonus, maybe +300. Every player in the world different than yourself is an opportunity, once every 24 hours, to be a humanity check-in. This rewards groups that grow and stay together with more humanity. 2. When you kill another player, you lose half of your humanity, rounded down. What if they shoot first? Nope. Still inhuman. Figure something out, no one said this was supposed to be easy! :-) This suggestion is meant to go with my other suggestion, here: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/113105-zombie-kills-ladder-ranking/ -Joker

I really feel like all the disagreement in this thread is from a common and very understandable knee-jerk reaction, but I think if you guys take a bit to consider how this will actually affect gameplay, you'll see that it opens up new dimensions of possibility. Of course it's acceptable to kill in self-defense. So says the law in pretty much all of the Western World. What we're talking about here is a measure of excellence--a measure of the people who go above and beyond survival. True heroes like Rick at the beginning of Walking Dead, who take on the extra burdens to give extra meaning to the preservation of life. When you kill in self-defense you preserve life, but when you let an attacker live, you preserve something greater (and of course totally optional, as a ladder ranking would be), and that's humanity. -Joker

Public ranking of zombie kills by each player. When the player dies, he loses half of his kills (rounded up). -Joker

This suggestion is meant to go with my Humanity ladder ranking suggestion: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/113920-humanity-ladder-ranking/ -Joker

That's the challenge. You have to ask yourself, how much do you trust this person to let them into your proximity? If you're a trusting person, then that's good humanity. Obviously if somebody kills you, they lose humanity and they lose all future opportunity to get humanity from you. -Joker

As long as the rules apply to everybody evenly, then all this does is create a more challenging landscape on which to play. Or did we not get into DayZ to be challenged? We're writing the rules for a game here, not the rules for the real world. Everybody is equally likely to run into the situation where they might die. The better you are, the less often you need to die. The zombie kills ladder rewards that. Everybody is equally likely to run into the situation where they might need to kill. The better you are, the less often you need to kill. The humanity ladder rewards that. -Joker

Take On Helicopters (DayZ SA) flying adjustments!

I like this. Same kind of reasoning that sniper physics should be super realistic. -Joker -
Sounds cool. Would seriously change worl dynamics though. -Joker

I was thinking more like, you all get together in a group, then each person offers themselves up for humanity check-in, then every person that confirms it for them earns them the bonus. It'd work by a radius of like 8 meters, same as the combat timer. -Joker

4. This also solves the "exploit" where people repeatedly suicide in order to spawn where they want. There's no reason not to die when all you've got is starting gear, but with this you'd want to stay alive lest you'd lose half your kills again. -Joker
