After two months, I quit because of hackers
private_joker posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The hackers have ruined it for me, and for my friends. Every bit of loot and every vehicle we earn, I find myself saying to them "A hacker will probably just steal it tomorrow" . Often enough, that's what happens. No disrespect or discouragement to the developers. I'll be waiting for news that the hacker problem has been handled, but right now no challenge in Chernarus is worth the fear that it might be lost to a cheater. -Joker -

I'm glad to be hearing alot of similar stories. Hackers nabbing my vehicle is the biggest thing--I never get to know whether it was me doing a bad job protecting it, or not. I reiterate, this is the most important problem happening in DayZ right now. All of the glitches--including atrifacts--are completely incidental because the game is in development. The hackers don't just piss off a few (or dozens) of people at a time, they will stain the reputation of the game forever. I want all gamers in the future to feel encouraged that they can come to DayZ and meet with all of its unique and wonderful challenges, and earn due rewards for it. Hackers have the power to stop that, and BattleEye does not have the power to stop them. I might even say that if I were running things, I'd shut down DayZ until it could be made more secure. That would do three things: 1. Stop the game from gaining a bad reputation 2. Show the hackers that they can't ruin it for everybody without ruining it for themselves 3. Show the community how serious the developers are about dealing with cheaters -Joker -

Yes, and that's why it's so much worse in DayZ. You can rarely ever be positive that you've been hacked, but it's always staring you in the face because we all know that it happens, all the time. Whether it's hacking, duping, or otherwise exploiting, it sucks for anyone that values the challenges they've faced in earning that number of days survived. -Joker -

I won't make up numbers, but I will challenge any of you to say that you've never been hacked. All that matters is, once it happens the trust is gone. It's happening to everybody, and the trust is gone. @Hydra, I tried not giving a shit. For two months. I tried not getting attached to any weps or vehicles, but then what can you even do in this game besides PvP over and over? I can play Counter-Strike if that's what I want. -Joker -

This does sound an awful lot like QQing, but I want to be as frank as I can in reinforcing the fact that hacking is the most important problem with DayZ right now. It's not just annoying, it's ruining the experience for too many. If it goes on too long, it will be forever a point of mistrust for everyone that plays. Look at what happened to Counter-Strike; it's taken an entire generation of gamers to stop everyone being afraid that others were hacking. -Joker -
Usually getting a full 60 FPS no problem, but often, usually when zombies are attacking me, my game will trip up and freeze for a second at a time. Suggestions to fix this? Rough specs: nVidia GTX 550 card Intel i3 dual-core CPU 2GB RAM Windows XP My command line: -beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\expansion -nosplash -mod=@dayz -cpucount=2 -exThreads=1 -skipIntro -winxp -Joker

Give players a key binding that will identify a player they're already looking at. This is a compromise between not being able to know players' names at all, in Veteran, and having a magical player-spotting device, in Regular. I think it's important to be able to identify players for the sake of knowing friends vs. enemies, getting revenge, etc. Issues brainstormed so far: 1. Abuse by just holding they key down and scanning to spot players? Fix with 5-second delay between command sends. -Joker

If it's realism you want, then faces and body shapes should be 100% customizeable so that people's identities are as readily perceptible as in real life. That's not the case and won't be, so we need a substitute for our perception, and that's nametags. I'm mostly concerned about being able to identify a unique enemy, e.g. that asshole who put a bullet in the back of your head after you gave him a blood transfustion. Hunting somebody down and getting revenge is a very sweet part of this game, but it's not possible when you can't tell who's who. P.S. Your reply to Gex made me choke on a carrot. Thank you. -Joker

Not really. What you're talking about is hundreds of thousands of varieties of the exact same forest camouflage. Every sensible player's priority is not to look unique, it's to look invisible. Custom face skins almost work, except for the same camo problem and that faces aren't very easy to pick out from a distance. -Joker

Every time I reconnect to US 790 I get knocked out for like 4 minutes. Not sure if it does it on other servers, but that's my main server. The wiki says that the game will do this if I'm in shock when I log out, but, it's happened 4 times now and I haven't been in shock any time, as far as I can tell. What can I do about this? -Joker

US 790 Seeks Clans, Squads and Fire Teams

That makes sense. Still, the game would lose something big if there were no tents. I enjoy having a home base to go back to, and the time I spend scouting new tent locations. I'd be happy if it were restricted to 1 tent per person, and maybe half as much storage capacity. Make sure that the developers are aware of your suggestions, especially the location tracking one. Sounds pretty good to me. -Joker -

I don't understand why you're suggesting no tents and no vehicles though? I definitely don't want to play like that, but I do like playing in a squad and obviously won't stand for duping, logging, or hacking. -Joker -

I disagree. I think server admins giving up because there's hackers is like firefighters giving up because there's a fire. DayZ needs attentive admins to show hackers that crime doesn't pay. -Joker
