I'm putting my own discussion points on this in a second post, so as to not tl;dr the main post: 1. This does go against the devs' "anti-game" theme, but barely. It gives the most basic, simple sense of purpose to playing DayZ beyond merely surviving. For some of us that's too easy--I find myself lacking motivation to play once I've geared up and have a vehicle. Giving an extremely bland telos to DayZ gives the whole world the smallest direction and limitation, yes, but it also builds motivation which feed the chaotic energy of the world: clans will battle over vehicles and gear not for their own sake, but because the clan with more gear will be able to climb the ladder more quickly. 2. High-ranking players will be hunted by low-ranking players: If you're in the top 10 with 8,000 kills, all it takes is a GameSpy search to find what server you're in, and me and my buddies are stalking through Chernarus looking to wipe you out with half of your kills. 3. Pretty inconsequential, but if the kills are rounded up then your first kill becomes an achievement, because mathematically you can never lose it. Just seemed like a nice thought to me. -Joker

I don't want to play DayZ singleplayer. All I want is the Chernarus DayZ map, complete with all objects (including roadblocks) so that I can practice driving vehicles through the map. I've tried everything I can think of to accomplish this, no luck. Who can help me? -Joker

No nameplates, no custom faces? No thanks. -Joker -
US 1069 11:05 PM Eastern 9/23/2012 In this video, there are three separate VoIP conversations happening at once: 1. The primary conversation between Killer101 and myself 2. the irrelevant background conversation between Chris and Acrasial (who are in a separate TeamSpeak server) 3. the relevant in-game VoIP between Killer101 and the hacker, Gpeck (we can only hear Killer's side of this conversation, per TeamSpeak) Our helicopter had been stolen. We were pretty sure it was an honest steal and we knew for certain that it was stolen by John. We were in the process of hunting John when Killer101 spotted the chopper in Elektro. Killer then reports that somebody else is there, and starts asking him questions. I tell Killer to just kill him. Killer reports shooting the player in the head multiple times without success. Killer then makes the judgement that the player is hacking, but is unable to identify the player because our server has no nameplates. I'm the server admin, so I decide to kick every unfamiliar player serially until the one in front of Killer disappears. I try to start this process, but then, for some reason, the player wants to teleport me to the site. Killer tells the player my name, and then I'm teleported to the scene. I resume the process of serially kicking players, and the first try is lucky. Gpeck is kicked and the identified hacker contemporaneously disappears. Afterward, another player appears and attacks us, but I have no reasonable suspicion that he was hacking. I kicked him and shut down the server to be safe. I found Gpeck's GUID in the server log and added him to my ban list. Gpeck's GUID: df0217dc42857fe8e494137b4f396d36 EDIT: I have no reasonable suspicion now that the second player was hacking, but at the end of the video I was working with really sketchy details. I didn't shut down the server to protect the vehicles, I shut it down to stop the hackers from returning before I could ban them. -Joker

John, I knew that it was you because when you stole the copter the only other people in the server were friends who I communicate with directly (this is something any player can, and does, do, and doesn't take admin powers). You're ignoring the fact that I didn't immediately ban you when I found out the chopper was gone. Instead, I was in the process of running a manhunt (i.e. playing the game fairly) when Killer101 discovered a hacker in possession of the chopper. It's pretty clear logic that I should start looking at the last person known to have the chopper when I'm looking for the hacker. I was wrong, obviously, and I'm sorry that you got kicked, but it was pretty incidental. We don't hack. We play intelligently and we're proud of the time we spend and the prizes we earn. We were exactly as well-equipped on the other servers we played on, but we kept getting ruined by hackers so we decided to buy our own server so that we could play fairly and have some small ability to protect ourselves. It's not difficult to keep up with good weapons and ammo if you do frequent airfield runs, which is a common quest when you control vehicles. If you want to ask me specific questions then fine, but I'm not going to keep wasting energy defending myself and my friends against broad accusations if you're not willing to believe anything I say. -Joker

Stop arguing that he's not a hacker. Listen to the video. He's standing right in front of Killer101, saying "Do you have a bloodbag or should I spawn one?" I understand "innocent until proven guilty", but try applying that to everybody involved instead of pre-judging the people with the power. -Joker
-
What the hell, man. You clearly insinuated that I was abusing, don't even argue about that. Also, I reiterate that I did not know the second player was innocent until I went back and watched the video and reviewed the logs. Yet more I reiterate, because you don't damned pay attention to the facts, that I stopped the server because it takes more than 30 seconds to review logs and ban a player. I didn't want the confirmed hacker [hackers, at the time I believed] returning to my server with a vengeance so he could continue hacking me or anyone else. You're right, admin abuse is a big concern, just as big as hacking. The fact is, I did get a server just exactly because I wanted directly to have the ability to deal with hackers precisely in the way that I did. Without that, I have to work through some probably irresponsible server host to most likely get nothing done. Now, I've got a hacker banned and you're assuming I must be a cheater because I wanted to have the power to protect myself, my friends, and my regular players from hackers. Clearly nobody should ever be given any power at all, since the only thing that can result from that is abuse, and never handling of responsibilities. You're damned right I feel victimized by hackers, don't even try to tell me how I should or shouldn't feel. And I don't appreciate you insinuating that I feel special and privileged for being a victim. I don't, but I do feel like I should be standing up beside other server admins and working together to stop this big problem instead of pointing the finger in every other direction. -Joker
-
There was a hacker in my server. I shut it down so I could look at the server logs and make the appropriate bans. Thanks for having zero sympathy for my effort trying to clean up this game. Also thanks for instead accusing me of admin abuse. @Excelsior: where did you get those data? -Joker

I'm trying to record play sessions, with my friends and I talking to eachother on TeamSpeak. I've tried all the popular software: DXTory, Bandicam, PlayClaw, VirtualDub. They all share the same problem: they want to dominate my sound driver's input, but if I let them do that then I can't send my microphone input to TeamSpeak. So, I can either capture the game sound, or I can communicate on TeamSpeak, but not both. I see an awful lot of videos out there where they're recorded game video, sound, and microphone stuff all together. How can I accomplish this? Relevant: I'm running Windows XP. -Joker

Recording videos with third-party VoIP
private_joker replied to private_joker's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've read this twice before, it's no help. It says I have to choose Stereo Mix OR Microphone, but I can't have both. -Joker -
Enable map-wide conditions that can be changed by play action, on a server-to server basis, so that every server will be different. Examples so far: 1. Radio Station. Require a player to have a toolkit and scrap metal that they can bring to one of the many radio towers in Chernarus, and "repair" the radio station. Now make it pretty much like the newer Fallout games; have 12-15 songs and/or news recordings that will loop over the course of an hour. Anyone driving a car or holding a radio item can listen to some music while they travel. This, obviously, is only about the experience of Chernarus. If I were in a zombie apocalypse scenario, I would feel much more motivated about survival if I knew that there were people out there in good enough spirits to get a radio station working. 2. Lighthouses. Scrap metal, a light bulb item, and a toolkit fix one of the lighthouses on the map. Now, at night a continuous horde of maybe 50-100 zombies will swarm that lighthouse, and meanwhile every other location in the map spawns 50% less zombies. Maybe a giant skyward spotlight at the Northwest airfield to do the same thing. This, in making the map safer for everybody, would be an excellent point of cooperation for survivors--something there isn't much of otherwise. Obviously it shouldn't be too easy. Maybe make the bulb in the lighthouse last no more than 24 hours, so you could get at most one safe night before you had to quest for more parts. Other ideas? -Joker
-
Things are getting too silly. But yes, a logical extension of the radio station is to define a geometric area near the radio antenna in which anyone speaking in VoIP will be channeled to radios in the map. Or, I think a better idea, to limit abuse, would be to limit that to a 30-second recording which would then go into play circulation and repeat every hour. This would expand in two dimensions: First, it would let players make announcements to the public; e.g. a scorned survivor naming the bandit who killed him and marking him for death. This could lead to global reputations, instead of feuds being confined to small groups of players. Also e.g. announcing to everybody the location of a big tent site ripe for raiding. Still more e.g. a helpful clan announcing a time and place where aid can be given. Less importantly, it would let players force their taste in music upon unwilling listeners, which would probably inspire vengeance just as much. -Joker

Title says it all. I spawn in on the beach and I'm a dead body. I'm lying on my back on the ground. I can't move, I can only look around. If I look at the right angle, I can "Study Body" with my wheel menu. I can even inspect my own backpack. Any help for this? -Joker
-
I did end up figuring this out. I wasn't a dead body. The dead body I was looking at was my own, from a previous reconnect attempt. I was alive but incapacitated. I had a friend come along and shoot me. I bled out until I went unconscious, and then when I came too I was rebooted and could stand up. -Joker
-
Thanks all for the support! Not 24 hours! This would only attract zombies at night, so you would only be, again, 50% safer, and only for ~8 hours. -Jooker

i.e. reset all vehicles, tents, everything specific to my server. A hacker absolutely ruined my map, so I just want a fresh start. -Joker

How to do a map reset?
private_joker replied to private_joker's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I figured it out. rjack is mostly right, it has to be done from the hive. Concordantly, you'll need to submit a ticket with the dev team, here: https://support.dayz...ubmitticket.php I just told them that the "magnet" hack had been run, offered the server log file that proves it, gave them my Location ID and Instance ID, and asked for the locations to be reset. We'll see what they do. -Joker -

What are the .p3d object names for vehicles?
private_joker posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
e.g. ural is ural.p3d but most other vehicles have different names if you're seeing them in the log viewer. Is there a list that matches those names with the vehicles? I can use this to catch hackers. -Joker -

Exactly what I wanted. I love you. -Joker -
This is a well-known glitch. After you connect and load in, your player dies at the instant you spawn. Then you spawn in the debug forest, then you abort and respawn on the coast with zero gear. Some servers do this and some don't, it seems. How can I make my server one that doesn't? Thanks, -Joker
