    Expert Comparison Wanted (Gaming Laptop)

both machines look good to me. The first one runs a 5,400 RPM drive though which seems odd for that price range. One thing you might do if you don't need a massive hard drive is buy a 256GB SSD and swap out the conventional drive. Have fun.

    Wanting to play Dayz

I think adding RAM and a GPU would not be enough for DayZ. The Athlon II X4 CPU was one of the first true 4-core cpus from AMD, released in 2009. Not exactly a powerhouse CPU. Although it could still pull off many games on low settings, ARMA/DayZ are very demanding titles. You can do 1 of two things: 1. Buy a decent video card (and likely a new power supply) and give it a shot...You can get a decent card under $100 if you really look around and maybe even try ebay for a used one in good condition, a 500watt PSU should cost you $40-$50. 2. The more likely option: replace the CPU/ Motherboard/Ram/Power supply and get a new video card as stated above. Likely around $400 at minimum. Sadly the only thing you could keep from this system is the case and the DVD drive. Hope this helps

    HELP, WINDOWS WONT START!.

Like weparo said, Even though the windows won't start, you should still be able to access the windows partition of your hard drive while you're logged into OSX. So find those windows games or files that were important to you (saved games, or your dayz mod folder for example). Back them up, and delete/create your new windows partition with bootcamp all over again. Once it's all running, set up a cloning schedule ( I do it once every 2 days at 3:00 AM) onto a new backup drive.

    HELP, WINDOWS WONT START!.

Poop. sounds like you'll have to reinstall. One very good piece of advice I would give everyone (either mac or pc) is this: Buy a second Hard drive, identical to your primary, and use a cloner to keep a bootable clone of your drive (bootcamp and all), once a week-ish For you, I would suggest Carbon Copy cloner. Question about compatibility!

You're all compatible. Basically, all those parts will fit together. The major consideration is the CPU and motherboard and in this case, you have a match. Should be a decent entry-level gaming rig. Have fun with it.

    RAM to play DayZ

I run at 4 just fine. Having said that,go to 8. (2x 4GB). Don't think 6GB is an option for you with a laptop, since they don't come in 3GB sizes

    7.1 surround sound not working?

Be sure you get yourself a 7.1 soundcard. It's all you need and it'll make a world of difference over your onboard audio. $30 should get you a basic 7.1 card like the Soundblaster Audigy.
  10. Is it a wireless mouse/keyboard? Try different USB ports and see what happens. If it's a recent purchase, just take it back and exchangeit.

First Build, Will it run DayZ?

Your computer should be just fine to run all the latest titles comfortably. Maybe not at the highest resolutions and other settings but it'll be fine One note. The stock FX-6300 has a short, flat-bladed heatsink fan. It tends to create a lot of noise. You'll likely get used to it, or you can splurge on a $20-$30 aftermarket heatsink/fan combo. (I just built an FX-6300 machine 2 days ago for a friend)

Some Help on Upgrading My computer

Isn't this a notebook computer? It's sadly inadequate to do much on.You will need an entirely new system. CPU, motherboard, Video Card. You can get a good entry level rig for around $500 US, if you're willing to build and hunt for bargains. Good luck
  13. I guarantee that plane took off into very intense and steady headwind.
  14. I like the idea of SS13. After a solid 3-4 hours of tutorials and instructions, I was still woefully ill-equipped to play that game. I kept getting slaughtered by...stuff. But I digress.

    Last PC thread

A medium sized philips screwdriver is all you need - just a regular non-magnetized one. Thermal paste that comes pre-applied to your heatsink will work. Go stock cooler. no need for aftermarket, especially if you go with the i5 CPUs. some AMDs have noisy fans though that could get annoying. You can replace this later. (guys, don't complicate the matter for a first-time builder). Follow the instructions in your motherboard user's guide when connecting your case LEDs, USBs, etc. It can be a bit tricky. Good luck, happy gaming.

    PC keeps turning off

Yeah I've run into a similar issue with my brother's custom built machine. It wasn't the heat either. We figured that out after thorough testing. Never did get to the bottom of it. I think he eventually swapped out his motherboard. Check all the capacitors in your motherboard to see if the tops of any of them look "puffed up". If it's not the motherboard, it could be the Power supply, or RAM. Tough to diagnose. Good luck to you, and if you figure it out, please let us know. I'd be interested in what you found.

Very laggy but why? How to fix?

Clean your laptop fan vents and check the thermal paste on your computer if it's a year or older. Heat tends to create instability and a lot of issues in laptops.

    Gaming Pc help PLEASE?

I realize my earlier post wasn't very constructive. Here is a good mid-level build (of the top of my head) Intel Core i5-3570K ($200) Gigabyte GA-Z77X (or similar mobo - $120ish) GTX 760 Video card - $260 8GB RAM - $50-$75 250GB Samsung 840GB SSD (I just bought one for $160 on ebay) 1TB WD blue HD ($70) 650W power supply ($75) decent case with some space and a fan port in the front and back ($50) 1 or 2 extra case fans to let it all breathe ($10-20) You can ease back on the Video card too if you like, and get something a bit cheaper. Gaming Pc help PLEASE?

I completely agree. The parts seem to be randomly picked. None of the three look like streamlined gaming builds. Allow me to illustrate (if your builds were a car):
  23. Hello, I was just banned (Feb 3, 2013) from the vendetta gaming Clan server. 66.225.195.169:2302 I stole a helicopter from Clan member camp while they were "partying" in ruins in the north. I landed near a truck far away, then took shots at their search helicopters and plane. I instantly received a ban saying "no esps allowed". IThe ban states I was banned for an ESP/spawning things in. I have NEVER cheated. I came across the camp while looking for tents in the north. It was hard to miss. 2 helis and a plane parked beside a ruins atop a mountain, with cars and trucks and a campfire smoke. I realize I pissed off clan members by stealing a chopper but that's no way to treat an honest player. It's part of the game mates.
