Yeah I bought a Razer carcharias...a slightly cheaper ($70) 5.1 alternative (which I wouldn't waste money on again). Bought it based on comments on the forums here on how I must have a headset to play.. Gotta admit...I still couldn't reliably tell where gunshots were coming from, other than left or right. My crappy old $25 headset gave me the same audio quality with less comfort. So I hope that answers your question...or maybe my hearing is fucked up and I should see a professional (quite possible)

Bloodsuckers are far too sci-fi. Keep them in STALKER, keep them out of DayZ. I find them immersion breaking, and a nonsensical addition. Make normal zombies harder/more unpredictable/with added variety in physical prowess and stages of decay.

Has the DayZ Mod come to a stall?

Question regarding your hearing, how you hear other footsteps, etc
taco241 replied to Spidey (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sound is still kinda buggy though, especially gun shots but hey, it'snothing new. I bought a nice headset but still find myself spinning around a few times before dying to an unseen shooter. -
You will be able to run it on your mac. You'l need an Intel based mac that was built in the last few years. It will probably have a decent enough video card to run on altered settings. Before you can run it, you'll need to use a windows virtualization (emulator) program such as Bootcamp http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3777 There are others too like VMware Fusion 5 http://www.vmware.co...n/overview.html Honestly....it's probably easier and cheaper to keep updated a windows gaming machine in your stable. Save the mac for fruity work like I do. It's shiny and prissy and doesn't play well with others.

do you think peripheral dots will be in dayz standalone?
taco241 replied to Pixelwarrior's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I like them too. Just need to reduce the angle, and fix the LOS to be more realistic. Also some sort of gunfire direction flash would be welcome. Audio is still fucked in the game. I even bought an expensive headset but find myself spinning around dancing as I try to detect where a shot came from. not realistic. Sorry I went off on a bit of a tangerine there. -
All players will get teleported to the baseball diamond deathmach

Don't forget the major delays when vaulting, changing weapons, changing stances, trying to use a flashlight, climbing up and down ladders. Try tossing a nade during a gun fight. This and all the stuff mentioned by others (inventory, etc) needs more addressing in standalone than anything else. I'd like to cast my ballot for a fluid, responsive, yet realistic character control. (I don't mean CS style quick weapon swaps)

I'd like some lighting but not city lights. toss in a generator model and a small section of loosely hung wires and bulbs. Sort of a temporary rigged lighting around certain places (like a wrecked car model that someone was attempting to repair, or a field hospital, where emergency shelter was set up). Also, I can fairly easily build my own Wind turbine out of spare car parts (rotors, sheet metal, battery and wiring). But I don't know if we want to turn DayZ into a metal shop sim. Especially when someone's gonna 'nade it anyway as soon as I flip the switch.

If you were an in game item what would you be?

Awesome recipes. The only reason I read this thread was because Steak and Potatoes started it. PS. You can use any of the original recipes listed to parkerize your rifle.

Couldn't help notice the unique player count jumping considerably from 1,333,xxx, close to where it's been for quite a few weeks, up to 1,363,xxx. Is this due to the patch and possibly banned player who were thinking"Fuck it, I'm gonna script and if I get banned, Standalone is around the corner anyway" coming back with new CD keys? Just my quick thought. Maybe there was a special offer or sales initiative I'm not aware of. 30,000 is a lot of extra sales all of a sudden. And if legit buys, grosses close to $900,000 for BI. (based on steam price). ...pure speculation Happy dayZ

Gamercamp - Nov 2012 - Interviews and Article

Yeah Arma's not exactly a household name. I barely gave it a moment's thought before dayZ came along. -
Yes. I said that. Thanks,

Does anybody else get excited when they see Heinz Baked Beans randomly in a store?
taco241 replied to "Lost" Alice's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
not beans. I've been buying sardines in tomato sauce though. -
Screw underground bases, barricading is where it's at
taco241 replied to Slyguy65's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Great idea. I'm all for barricading houses as opposed to underground bases. Some homes could already be pre-barricaded with Zeds inside. -
DayZ standalone version release date?
taco241 replied to BigZam's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm sure it won't be until mid- to late December. There are always more kinks to iron out than first anticipated and since the team hasn't commited to a date yet, I would guess they would take advantage of some extra time to keep perfecting stuff. It's OK by me though. Taking a break from the mod and a bit of vacation will make DayZ standalone that much nicer to come back to. -
Dunno but I just had an experience where I got into a damaged chopper needing several things. Got out, and took the gunner's seat, squezed off a few rounds, Then got out, and got back into the pilot's seat. Ta-da! All green and repaired. Didn't ask how, and didn't care why. I promptly crashed the chopper about 100 yards away in a steep nosedive.

Concerned about Standalone Interiors
taco241 replied to MrBlick (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Read my post. 1.I don't mention an incentive to fire on others. I mention an incentive to be sneaky. 2. More dangerous, and harder to lose Zeds aggroing on you WILL make you less willing to fire on others without putting much thought into it. You misquote me by assuming you shouldn't KOS. I'm simply stating that your killing will now have to be more strategic and less CoD. Stop reading carebear into it. -
Concerned about Standalone Interiors
taco241 replied to MrBlick (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
what Hetstaine said^. Zombies should be able to run (even in buildings.), noobs will need to line of sight them around buildings/shrubs, and players will actually have an incentive to be slow and careful, and less willing to fire at others. -
They're working on the biggest update right now

Remove 3rd person or make it worse
taco241 replied to DerrocK (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
good point by everyone. I say keep both 1st and 3rd view options, but try and tweak them so 3rd person doesn't have such a big advantage when looking around (drop the camera angle a bit lower maybe?... Like Res Evil? dunno) Then, fix FOV in first person, and eliminate all head-bob (it's still there when I put my slider to minimum). Make it smooth and fast. I use both modes, but in first person, I double tap "-" on the number pad to go to a wider field of view (for those who didn't already know this) that helps a bit. -
Just curious to see how you think specific gun names, and product brands would play out in the Standalone. Are you attached to gun/soda and canned food names? I personally think it'd be a smart move and great guerilla marketing for large companies to freely license their brand for DayZ (within certain outlined parameters...people can't give each other pepsi enemas in game for example). I was kinda disappointed to see Counterstrike having to change their gun names way back. And product placement has worked out for games like Alan Wake (Verizon, Energizer, Ford). I find real brands just make the game more immersive. A small touch but seeing iconinc Heinz brand beans does make a difference.
