This sounds like an idea that's good

I like it.More distraction in SA would be essential, especially if Zs can run indoors. Tossing rocks or trash (without needing to inventory them) might be a useful addition.

DayZ Standalone Pic, kinda looks like the ordenary dayz.......
taco241 replied to BloodyWarriorHD's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
I see a dramatic difference in the shadows. Don't concern yourself with the models. I believe this is just a lighting demonstration (and maybe some atmosperic effects.) so the existing Mod building models and textures were used for accurate comparison. Maybe it's just draw distance settings but the distant mountain tops look much better too. -
Running and Switching Guns...
taco241 replied to Kyrios (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm actually writing a magazine article about slings (types and how they should be appropriately used in the field by hunters) You can't easily swap a gun while sprinting, at least not unless you've got a decent amount of military experience. Your rifle will need a sling, and your sidearm a holster or other easy-to-reach pocket.I hope they add slings in SA...don't think a holster is neccessary for sidearms in game. Most hunters do not use slings (maybe 30% or less might...doing a poll on this) In real life, most people would drop a main gun to draw a sidearm if you needed immediate access to it. In game, you'de have to go back and find the gun. As others havepointed out, I think a happy compromise would be to allow a very quick swapping of rifle/shotty to a sidearm and back, while standing, or while at a slow jog, and if you have a sling on the long gun. -
Anyone know anything about the next patch? Anything I find in Google seems to be 1.5 to 2 months old.No recent info that I can find either on the forums or online. With no standalone and silence on the patch, the natives are getting restless.

Awesome. Thanks for the info.

If third person was removed from DayZ...
taco241 replied to Imafighter's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd prefer 3rd person fixed (camera angle lowered and/or maybe shifted closer to player?) 3rd person lets me enjoy the outfits and appearance of my character, much more so in SA I imagine. -
What kind of base do you wanna build when base building is added to DayZ standalone?
taco241 replied to colekern's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd like a drawbridge and some towers.crossbowmen/enfieldmen guarding the walls, and a big sign that says "come and get me sumbitchies" -
Ghillie suits don't grow on trees you know...

After having expensive headsets go sour, I decided to invest in a $20 knock-off from China. Guess what. Games sound 80% as good as anything else I had. Heaset is Ok..Looks great, durable, a tad less comfy than the high-end stuff, but you only notice it after 4-5 hours on my head. And mic is just as nice (cheap) as any other headset. Thing is, audio in most games isn't that well engineered anyway. I'm pissed at myself for the hundreds I wasted on two previous headsets. And now I have money left over to buy friends to game with.

I thought I would start a topic to get some thoughts on how servers will be managed and maintained in the standalone. I have complete faith in the dev team for good things coming in the release, but am concerned about how it will be served to us. Currently, the player-hosted servers are not without fault. There are instances of admin abuse (probably not so frequent - a lot of awesome admins out there), and a huge variance in the starting equipment, vehicle and gear spawn options. Let's presume this will all be standardized and there will be no server-specific variance in the standalone. My bigest concern is how servers I play on currently, seem to go offline inexplicably, negating my progress. Assuming there's more end-game and long-term progress that our characters will be invested in, servers have to stay on and active. This is not so much a problem if everything is saved to a hive and I can continue on a different server but what happens if private hives become a possibility in standalone too? Any recommendations/thoughts on how servers should be controlled or managed?
-
Maybe the whole public/private hive argument will be out the window. Perhaps we'll have a hybrid system that allows customizable severs offering different maps while still retrieving your character and all his/her on-body posessions from a central hive-like database.Who knows. But if you will need to start a new life on a custom map (as happens currently for private-hives) it'd be nice to have a server browser that indicated your progress (maybe a 3D model of your character and a list of all gear).

You can use matches in the toilet after a poo to make things smell better. And you rub/spray deodorant on to make your pits smell better. Therefore, matches and deodorant are completely interchangeable.
-
Yes, 3D models so you can examine yourself/others. Then clothing will need to be color coded from grey (trash), through to white, green, blue and purple. Then they'll need to add a pawn shop to cities so we can vendor our greys. All this will require a $15 monthly subscription of course.

Can I run it? Dell XPS 13 newest model
taco241 replied to flugflach's topic in New Player Discussion
Your XPS 13 should do fine for the DAYZ mod. I think you're safe to buy. If you decide to get more serious about PC gaming, $500 will get you started on a decent gaming desktop. -
So I found a mutant heart...
taco241 replied to FinalNinja447's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Is Namalsk still a DayZ mod? Not sure this sci-fi Stalker poopburger should be on DayZ Commander but hey, that's just me.Iliked the map a lot before the blowout/Blooduskcer thing (except for that special gun) ...and now mutant hearts? -
Cheers for the gear mr sniper
taco241 replied to richjones19772000's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah I ran across a guy in the bush scoping out the hangars at NW, I almost ran over him (he was ghillied) but saw his black boots.A clip from a 1911 put him to sleep as he was spinning around while prone. He was watching the zombies I spawned, but I decided to go around behind the hangars. Yay! -
12 or 13. Only played about 5 hours though. Maybe we should count hours survived while in-game as opposed to days alive.

A little advice for a computer noob?
taco241 replied to Tegan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Pleas don't try to turn that machine into a gaming rig. It's like deciding to use your grandmother's smartcar to get into drag racing. Your power supply is underpowered, the computer case itself is small form factor so it physically won't be able to hold most modern video cards, you likely don't have the proper cooling (fans) and the CPU (brain) of your computer is not designed for gaming. $500 should be able to get you a rig that plays most modern games smoothly. -
Slow run bug.. needs to be at top of things to fix.
taco241 replied to Thetalon's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Wow I didn't realize others were having this issue. A buddy constantly runs slower than me. now i know why, i thought it was his slower internet connection having syncing issues with the server or something. But yeah...minor bug. There are much bigger fish to fry. -
I've been on servers where a disproportionate amount of one item or another dropped; backpacks everywhere, mostly tin cans andvery little real loot, overabundance of compasses, barbed wire or whatever. Also on official hive servers. No idea what causes it but I've noticed it on empty or near empty servers with no admin presence. I just chalked it up to a server not being restarted in weeks, being ignored by the admin. No real idea though mate, I'd like to know an answer to this myself.

Should Heli Crash Sites be marked on the Map?
taco241 replied to klesh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Who decided to add this to the next patch? Seems like an odd thing to add. I hate the idea. -
crash site markers make no sense. Is there a focus group of players that talk to the community development team? I can't see the majority of players supporting this idea but maybe I'm wrong. I like the surprise of coming across one, and not knowing if anyone else has seen the smoke or not. If you want them easier to find, add a larger smoke plume (3 or 4 times higher)
-
yeah it'll work just fine.

As long as you're not selling them, you're good to go
