    "Tactical Menu" - question

That's not true at all. I use that menu all the time when I'm armed or not. You just have to be aimed at the object. If you have a primary and secondary you can do it at any time because it allows you to switch weapons but otherwise you need something to be nearby to perform an action on.
  2. I may be interested. I'm on the East coast US.

    First firefight

Today I had my first real firefight and holy shit was that intense. I was carelessly crouch running around in the forest outside the airfield walls and suddenly I hear a crack followed by a couple more cracks as well as some AR shots as I scrambled to get out of the open. I dived to the ground and hid behind a tree trunk. The next minute or two was the most tense moment I've felt in this game. They ceased shooting (probably cause they no longer could see me) and I wasn't exactly sure where they were only the general direction that I could guess. I sat there contemplating aborting to save myself but then I steeled myself and decided to try to take out my attackers. So I waited and of course it wasn't long until they started to move up to look for me. I could see one and he apparently saw me cause a few more bullets whizzed by and hit the dirt nearby. I tried staying behind the tree so he wouldn't get a clear shot. I then popped up to a crouch and leaned out with my L85A2 AWS and it was easy to put a few in him with the thermal sight lighting him up. He went down and I glanced to my debug monitor and saw the Bandit Kills was now at 1. I knew there was at least one more since I heard both sniper and AR fire at the same time so I waited a couple seconds and sure enough he came towards his friends body, possibly in a hopeless attempt to revive his friend. This gave me another clear shot and I took him down quickly. My heart was racing after the battle and I waited a short time in case there were any others but I didn't see or hear anything so I moved in for the spoils of war. They didn't have much that I needed, although their cooked meat was appreciated to replenish the blood I lost during the fight.

Where to find the good stuff ?

Heli crashes are the only place I've found any of the elusive "good gear". Found NVG on a previous life and found a DMR and L85 (thermal scope) on this life. Although the barracks are supposed to have the best loot I've barely found anything good in them, if there is ever a gun there it's usually just standard military loot like an AK or M4 or Remington. Only vehicle I've found was a random tractor, in some bushes. Not sure if someone tried hiding it or something but I didn't bother driving it. I feel you though on getting bored. During my current life I'm just basically looking for GPS, NVG, and Range finder to complete my gear. Not having much luck finding them. You could also try to killing well geared players for their loot, although being solo it may be hard to take on someone in a group, but I did find pretty decent gear on 2 victims of a helicopter accident so other players often have the good gear.

    L85 and DMR

So after countless hours of searching for a better gun than the AKM/AKS-74/M4A1/M16A2 I finally come across heli crash site. Crawl up to it and see a BIzon SD, I pass it up as the ammo is rare and I'm not sure it's powerful enough. Go around the back of the chopper and find a DMR. I was pretty damn excited since this is a gun I was hoping to get my hands on. I keep my AKM and put the DMR in my pack and continue around the other side of the chopper and I find the L85 AWS which is awesome just for its NV/Thermal scope. If I had found NVG there as well I think I would have died of happiness.

    L85 and DMR

Had a little more good luck. Headed into Stary since it was nearby to look for a knife or more food in the supermarket. Only 1 can of pasta so I sneak through to a nearby house where I can hear some flies. I search for the bodies and see them across the street. Two well geared bodies that don't seem to have been looted. Looks like they crashed their chopper since I saw a burnt out chopper not far from the bodies. Both have coyote backpacks so I grab one. One had a M4A1 Holo but I didn't want to give up my L85 or DMR for it so I left it and just took some of the ammo, an M9SD for zombie killing and the hunting knife I needed. Decided to just head up to the airfield and right in the middle of the airfield is a heli crash. There was only one other player on the server so I took my chances after scanning around with the thermal sight and went to loot it. It had 2 FN FALs and a Bizon SD, no ammo for either. Hit both barracks without much luck and then logged off. Logged back on hit both barracks again and didn't find anything again and was heading towards Stary to see if anyone was there and a hacker teleported me and a bunch of people into the middle of a runway so I just logged off. Only gear I'm still interested in finding is NVG, GPS, and Range Finder. After that I'll probably try to actually engage some other players or find a group to play with, or I'll end up dying and start all over again.

    Deer stands.

If you're at Kamenka there are a few directly north not far from the road. As others said Balot airstrip has 4 in the medical camp south of the runway. Green Mountain has a few in at the edges of the forest surrounding it. Lots of the patches of forest near Stary and Novy have deerstands in them. Also East of Pavlovo, North of Komarovo and directly Southwest of Bor there are 3 of them. As others have said just look at the edges of the forests and you can sometimes spot them. An easy way to figure out if you've come up next to one is to see some zombies milling around in a field near the edge of the forest since if you're close to it they will spawn there.

    Whats A Unique Player?

Is it really each unique person tho. I'm pretty sure there are a few people who have multiple characters by owning multiple cd-keys. I'd assume that unique players is somehow tied to cd-key since that's how you're characters are identified as yours in the hive. Correct me if I'm wrong.

thought cherno was a pvp hotspot?

I've never been killed by a player in Cherno. One of the first times I went there it was on a fairly well populated server. All the loot was gone and I saw a few people running around like crazy (I was as well). Since then I've played on lower pop servers and everytime I respawn I hit up Cherno and I come out with almost all the equipment I'd need and don't see a soul. Only this most recent life I stuck around longer and witnessed some PvP action. Saw a guy 200 something meters away with some gear (wasn't unarmed) so I tried killing him, we traded shots but neither of us could kill each other. He ran away and was killed by a sniper near by shortly after. During my time there I heard a lot of shots so maybe it was a lot of player killing but I couldn't be sure. I did see a guy in a Ghillie and I wanted to kill him for his gear but he disappeared.

What to do then low health and good gear?

Don't give up, try to find some food or the items you need to hunt and gain your blood back with a few good meals. If you die in the process use it as a learning process. Think of how you got that injured and what you could have done to prevent that. Did you get a bad zombie aggro that really messed you up? How can you do better next time. The gear you have isn't that important in the long run. I've been pretty well kitted with nearly all the equipment in my toolbelt and decent assault rifles with tons of ammo and I've died stupid ways. Now I just think back to what I did those times and how I can avoid dying those ways. Also as others said that gear you have is pretty common to find in barns and stuff so you can get back to that pretty quickly if you do die.

    Bandit or survivor fine line

I consider myself a survivor. I mostly play lone wolf and if I see another player and he doesn't notice me I usually just try to get away. If I hear shots I usually leave the area. But, I have been itching to shoot some people. I attempted to the other day right outside of Cherno. He had an ALICE pack and some sort of rifle so I figured it wasn't shooting at a defenseless person. I took a few shots at him from 250 m out with my AKM but I wasn't able to get it on target enough to put him down. He fired back as well and missed me. Eventually he slinked away behind a building and I lost sight of him but another player got him shortly after (nameplates were on so I saw his name was David and saw his death message.) I think his killer was the guy I spotted on the roof of the factory building who was even further out and i had no chance at getting. But anyways I left the area and went north and found some better weapons so I might try my hand at shooting some people for their gear at Starry/NWAF since I'm not far from Starry right now.

    Is this considered unethical?

The only time I'd consider it unethical to switch servers is A) you're being shot at and you disconnect to avoid dying B) you "ghost" behind another player by switching servers to move into position behind them then switching back to get the jump on them or C) you just keep switching servers to farm one building. What you did was perfectly fine. Looting the stuff laying on the ground is 100% fair game and leaving the server because you were trapped is fine as well. Depending on how the wire was set up you can sometimes vault over it with "V" but sometimes you can't due to the doorways not being high enough.

    L85 and DMR

Good idea. Might be safer to do that on a low pop server than trying to raid the NWAF. I also still need a knife. I usually find those right away but I had bad luck the beginning of this life and almost died in Cherno trying to find a knife. I escaped and headed north and thankfully found these gems.

Loving this Mod =) - but?

If your bag fell on top of some other loot you sometimes have to pick up all the loot under it before you can pick the bag up. So you could pick it all up and drop it a little ways away until there is nothing under the bag then you should get the option to open or take the bag. I've seen that happen sometimes when bags spawn on top of loot in the supermarkets. If you're behind another player you should see a prompt to open [whatever pack they have] and then if you loot it just like any other loot you could take what you want out of it. My friend actually stole some stuff from random players when he first spawned, it was pretty funny. That screenshot appears like it's a radio tower which I'd assume is Green Mountain. Haven't been there myself but others have said it's not really worth the loot there since it spawns tons of zombies.
  15. First time I died after having a really good life that happened to me. I died right in the middle of Balota due to a bad zombie aggro that knocked me out. I spawned and made my way back towards it. I cautiously made my way towards my body so I wouldn't gain aggro and could actually loot it. I was about 2 feet away when the server restarted. My body was gone
  16. For those saying that only old vets are saying no to a starting gun, I started after it's removal and I'm against them bringing it back. I like the feeling of helplessness when you first start and you're trying your hardest to find stuff to survive. You can usually find a hatchet within 15 minutes and a gun of some kind within 30.

    Can't play through daylight

In towns never stand up, always crouch or prone unless you decide to just run into town (I usually do that when I first spawn near Cherno to gear up quickly). I actually almost always crouch walk/run. When I'm just traveling through the forests I crouch run that way I'm less likely to randomly be seen. In towns I try to time my moves by watching the movements of the zombies. I've noticed that once they spawn they usually move away from the buildings, so once you get past them, going building to building is a bit easier if you keep your eyes open for any ones left. If you do gain aggro by accident, either you didn't notice a zombie nearby or you get one of those random see you from 200m ones, just get up and run to the nearest building with 2 entrances. Then you can either shoot them as they walk slower or sneak out the other entrance while they are looking for you in the building. In the forest just weave through bushes and pine trees until they stop following you. It sometimes take a while but if it's bushy enough they will get lost quickly. Deer stands are incredibly easy to loot. I try to hit up as many as I can since they have few zombies and not usually any players around and the loot isn't bad. What I usually do is once I spot the deerstand I try to approach it from the back (usually the part facing into the woods has the ladder.) Take your time and the zombies will usually spread out and you can crouch walk up to the ladder and climb it without any aggro. I also try to take a peek up there before actually climbing so if it's obviously empty I don't waste my time.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2.5

Yea I was playing earlier. Looted Starry just fine but when I got to the NWAF I couldn't look towards the Barracks or the control tower/ fire station without crazy artifacts showing up. I ended up just logging off instead of attempting to loot either. Didn't want to run into someone who wasn't have the same issues and could take me out. I'll check out the beta patch you linked and see if it works.

    Can GPS track other players?

I'm not entirely sure but I'm pretty sure on some servers that have the option turned on you can see other players or zombies on your map (and probably your GPS as well.) In my experience when a marker on the map has said "Man" it was a zombie. I believe other players are marked as "Survivor."
  20. I'd probably freak out and axe you too. My first murder was a random guy who ran into the building I was in and I just axed some zombies so I axed him as well. I never log out in a city unless I need to leave the game for something irl.

    Pending Update: Build 1.7.2.5

I'm just glad the artifacts are one of the top priorities. Really hard to raid some military tents when half your screen is covered in graphical glitches. I have been able to get them to disappear sometimes but they always end up back. As a fellow game dev I understand that it takes time to fix stuff and the more complex things get the more time it takes to ensure you're not breaking more than you're fixing. Keep up the good work.
  22. I usually find plenty of canteens. My last life I had 5 and found many more in my travels, granted it was my longest life yet. In my current life I haven't found a single one, having hit up a couple of supermarkets, many deerstands and couple barns. Thankfully I've found plenty of soda to keep me hydrated. I try to keep at least 3 or 4 sodas on me just in case and when I find new sodas I drink one and pick up a new one.
  23. What's this about Green Mountain? Are the zombies stronger there? I was nearby there a little while ago but I decided to avoid checking it out since the loot map didn't show much and I was getting visual artifacts when I looked towards it.

    Heli crash site questions

In my experience (only encountered 3 heli crashes so far) the spawns have all been within a meter or two of the chopper on the left or right of it. Often I couldn't actually see any of the items because they were hidden in the grass or whatever. At best I found 2 guns on one chopper. At worst I just found camo clothing and regular loot. The other time I just found NVG and camo clothing. Definitely think there could be stuff missed if you don't look around carefully.
  25. At best I've found a couple people who are willing to ignore me and let us carry on our separate ways. Once was a while back in Cherno, we all were obviously fresh spawns just trying to gear up and running around like idiots and we all ignored each other. The second was a pair of survivors raiding the NW airfield who caught me in the control tower. They shot first, I retreated into the building and then I heard on the mic someone ask "Friendly?" so I replied friendly. They were obviously worried I would turn on them cause they watched me as I left the building but I tried not to give them a reason to shoot and they let me go. Sadly a few minutes later as I headed to the barracks another survivor shot me on sight. Third time was after respawning following death at the airfield. I just spawned near Komarovo and I was in the warehouse there and some guy was shooting all crazy, not sure if he was aiming at zombies or me but I think he hit me at least once (think it was a makarov.) I asked him to not shoot me since I just spawned and he told me "Everyone gets one, kid" and continued firing at zombies and left me alone. Sadly as soon as I made it to Cherno I saw that the store was blown to bits and as I checked the rubble for anything useful, seeing a crossbow, I hear a voice, "You feeling lucky?" and then I was dead.
