i don't think you should know where you spawn. The idea is that you wash up on the beach, you don't get dropped of by a boat. You wash up and re-gain consciousness with no weapon, only a bandaid, and bottle of aspirin, and a flashlight. I wouldn't be opposed to grouping up in a lobby and spawning near each other, that still goes with the premise of the spawn. I do like the idea of a spawn timer though, make people be a little more careful about their life. Keep people from cherry picking a good spawn point, and detering people from charging in to cherno like a crazy person only to get eaten 2 minutes after they spawn. Something like a 10-15 minute cool down after you spawn, if you die in that time you gotta wait to spawn again.

Depends on the situation, if they haven't seen me yet i will usually stalk them for a while. Its amazing the kind of hidden fun people will lead you to when they don't know you are watching

better to be an asswhole than a half ass. Also, are you sure it wasnt a keg-orator? because that would be way cooler

if bullets went in one way, they should have gone out the other. Sometimes i have issues with shooting in tight areas, even when the sights look like they will clear the doorway i end up killing the crap out of the door jam. If i had to guess, thats what i would say happened. That said, ill have to try and figure out how to use the arma 2 editor right and test it out.

i farmed the southern barracks at nwaf for 3 hours yesterday, emptied everything out in a pile about 30 meters away from the front door, did a sweep every 20-30 mins or so. the only decent items i found were a m1014, an akm and a pdw. the pile consisted of 3 acu packs, an assload of misc ammo, about 12 hunting knives along with 239842938 tin cans and other misc crap. Today i log in and do a sweep of both barracks and found fuckall, so i decided to look for some crashed helis. Found 2 crash sites, one with 2 FALs, and one with 1 FAL... I attributed it to my long history of shitty luck, but maybe there is more to it.

As a new player i would suggest a couple things: 1. Run to the nearest town/city and get a feel for how the zed operate. Learn how to sneak past them, check out what happens when you aggro a few then run in to a building. Learn which buildings have loot, and which are worthless. This will help you be able to quickly go in to a town, get what you need, then get out without too much trouble. 2. Find a Hatchet. Hatchets are great because when you are still learning how to manage zed you can kill one silently without alerting every zed in the town to your location. 3. Be a little reckless at first. If you die, you wont really lose anything all that important since you just started. 4. Once you get a good feel for the game mechanics and can successfully sneak past a horde of zed and loot buildings, try to gather a starter kit of items to start your journey inland. My kit usually includes, a pistol + ammo, a decent rifle + ammo, some tools (matches, hatchet, hunting knife, compass, map), enough food/water to last you for a while (water bottles are better than cans of soda since they are re-fillable, and a good back pack. I like to hit up berezino once i have the food/water for the journey. Here you can fill out what ever items you may be lacking like medical supplies, a better backpack, and any other items you come across that look interesting. Always assume that every other player out there WILL kill you eventually. There is an exception to every rule, so you might get super lucky and find that one guy who wont, but it is unlikely. A lot of the time they will shoot you in the face the second they get a chance, other times they will feign friendship and shoot you in the back when you least expect it.

right click the link you want and select: "save link as..." if you are using chrome "save target as..." if you are using internet explorer If you are using some other browser it should be something similar. Once you have the file downloaded, right click the file and choose copy. Open the folders mention by the other poster and delete, or rename the existing file, then right click open space and choose paste. I have had to do this with ever patch, im figuring it happens due to the download servers tripping out when they get bum rushed by everyone trying to download the file at the same time.

Reading this i couldnt help but think that it would have been cool if you could have drug this asshats... ass to your friend, assuming he was still alive. Let the one he injured take the final blow. That said i dont think i would have had the clear head to do this, i probably would have done exactly what you did. He deserved to die, when you wish death upon others without reason, you should expect to die a horrible death.

Stuck in the same boat, been trying for the last hour to get a decent server, but no luck. Takes ages waiting for loading screens, just to find out its a night server. I update to the patch that has the most available servers, if i see half of them are running 95208, i upgrade. According to DayZ commander almost exactly 50% of the servers are running 95208, with the next on the list being 95057 at 6%. Not trying to bitch, i get that its alpha and all, just wanted to get the numbers out there. Would be nice if server owners/admin tried to keep up on the server title. Most i see are outdated showing wrong timezone, wrong version, even wrong difficulty setting a lot of the time.

i spent the night tuna fishing off the west coast, about 100 miles offshore. The skipper turned off the engine and all the lights for about 20 mins so we could enjoy the evening. It was breath taking how quiet and dark it got. It was a clear night with no moon and hardly any swell. i have never in my life seen the sky look that amazing. There are loads more stars out there than most people can even imagine.

Would be sweet to have some kind of reward/bragging rights system that gave more points for killing people with less humanity. Maybe even make a penalty to your "score" for killing people who just spawned.... great way to balance out the spawn killing. Awesome idea OP, may the beans i gave you sustain you through many kills.

I would think a good place would be a high traffic deer stand. Put the trap at the base of the ladder, hopefully obscured by some grass. Since tree stands don't move and even geared out players check em you might just get some upgrades. Since bear traps were put in the game i have paid extra attention to places like this, but sometimes i am too worried about the zed that changed directions and is now heading toward me. Good Luck!

wait, let me get this straight.... you want all players to give someone streaming protection from pvp, simply because they are streaming? If i come across someone who i am about to kill should i check the internet to make sure this person isnt streaming at the moment? Is there a way to tell? I think the most unused feature is one of the best. Tin cans and whiskey bottles can be thrown to cause any zed in the immediate area to walk over and investigate the noise. This helps immensely when trying to stealth in to a barn, or some other structure when there are many zed blocking your route. This works well at night too and there is no light to alert potential bandits of your location. The harder the surface you throw the item at, the better the results, so try to hit a road if you can (no pun intended).

Why wait? The two options in the poll indicate you will purchase eventually, so why torture yourself with youtube vids waiting for the day the standalone is released. Sure you may end up buying twice, but it will be worth it because you are supporting an amazing game/mod. Plus, Rocket knows that many people already spent money on arma II for Day Z and has already said that he is considering that when they setup the standalone.

You cant think of Day Z like its a game... this is the fucking zombie apocalypse! Put yourself in their shoes, you have some people you know and trust and you find a crashed military heli, while approaching it gets kinda sloppy, but with 5 guys the group is able to deal with it. Suddenly, some random person you dont know comes up, shouting friendly, firing their weapon. Now you have 2 choices, share the loot from the chopper you found, YOUR loot, or kill him now and never look back . You dont know this person, you dont know if they are trustworthy, but youve seen enough zombie movies and know people well enough that its only a matter of time before this person either goes nuts and attracts a shitton of zombies that take out a chunk of your group, he stabs you in the back, or best case ends up knocking up your girlfriend. No matter how it plays out, its not going to be good and there will be death. The only logical course of action is to kill him right away to prevent the eventual drama filled, horrific betrayal. (great stuff for movie plot lines, bad for your chance of survival) If you want to be friendly and group up with people, find people who are solo and want a partner. Even then, you run the risk of getting shot on sight, but thats all part of the game. Trust no one, rely on no one but yourself. This is how you survive, look out for #1

DayZ commander has a recently played list that keeps track of servers you have joined. I have been switching back and forth with six launcher, but am really liking dayz commander so far.

I agree with most of you here, i would love to see the side chat back. I also agree with having it only be text, a huge part of the game for me is listening to signs of zed, or bandits near by. Nothing is better than having the crap scared out of me by that creepy throaty sound the zed make, right freaking next to you outta nowhere. Also having it just be text and no voice would prevent the inevitable rick roll spam. As far as it being taken away because dumb asses were lured in to bandit traps... pshhhh. Thats half the fun in the game and realistic as hell. When the shit hits the fan there are going to be all sorts of people. From overly friendly folks that help everyone and get songs written about them when they die, to the uber - evil guy who goes straight bonkers due to watching his kitty kitty Lulu get eaten by a zombie baby and starts trapping people, tying them up, putting cat ears on them and dancing them around in an adult diaper. People get lured in to traps without side chat, people will continue to get lured in to traps with side chat. tl;dr Sidechat good, global voice bad, adult diapers are creepy

I was in a tree stand trying to coax the zed out from underneath when i hear "im friendly coming in". I didnt know who said it and didnt see anyone for a few mins. I was backed away from the ladder a bit when i see another zed come over to the tree stand then i see a head, without thinking i blasted it. Turns out to be the "friendly"... So yeah, that was my first murder, i felt bad for like 0.00000000001 seconds then realized that he probably would have killed me anyways.
