    Let's talk about cooperation

In all honesty, human beings are social creatures. As much as many people hate to admit it, we NEED meaningful interaction with other human beings. Meaningful interaction is not shooting them in the face. I personally feel there should be a sanity status. The more time you spend away from people, it goes down. The more you attack people, the more it goes down, until you start going completely bonkers and start seeing things. Bit of a stretch, and hamstrings solo players, but it might be an interesting mechanic.
  2. (As a preamble, I would like to apologize to the forum admins -- I know this probably belongs in the Off topic/General forum, but I feel like this has to be said and I want it to be seen.) I realize I am about to open Pandora's box here with this post, but this is a forum for an Alpha mod. Not a professional game, but a mod made my an independent entity for free. Rocket does not have a PR department to help him decide what is "PC" or not. He is a human being, and respect him immensely for the hard work and dedication he has put into what is and will continue to be one of the most enjoyable experiences I have ever had gaming. That being said, everyone immediately jumping (should I say hording? This is a Zombie mod) on someone who states a grievance at Rocket -- whether it be a game mechanic decision or a word choice should stop. It is not productive. It is childish. It fills a thread with clutter that the dev team is probably reading through every minute to find the bugs and hotfix them, and making their job just that much harder (and delaying much needed hotfixes). You are currying favor with no one. You are simply flaming -- an egregious internet phenomena where people who think that by being nasty, they are making their point more viable than someone else's. It does not -- it merely makes you a thug. The purpose of an Alpha is for the dev team to get feedback and improve the game. Sometimes, that improvement comes in the for of PR knowledge. I, for one, want to see this become the best damn mod it can be. There will be hiccups, but flaming someone who brings it up in a respectful manner is not befitting the hard work and dedication Rocket and the dev team have put into this. If you want to support Rocket, send him a PM with your encouragement. If you want to register your own grievance with someone else, do it in a PM. Leave it off the boards, as it better the mod, and the gamer community as a whole. We should start acting like rational human beings -- the world expects us gamers to be an immature and vile lot. Let's prove them wrong -- right here, right now. To those of you who have been rational beings thus far, my hat is off to you. Thank you for being patient and reasonable. To those of you who have not been, stop the flaming. Please participate in the discussion in a critical, yet positive form. Prove to the rest of the world that we gamers better than what they think we are. This mod has so much potential. I don't want it wasted on mindless bickering. Peace, --Fencer
  3. I have no problem with the amount of Zed I encountered. At first I was very concerned about their amount and their new wandering AI, but I grew to appreciate it. What I failed to realize was that while the game was challenging, it did not really give me any sense of horror. When 1.5.7 came out, and I spawned into the NW airfield surrounded by Zed, I found myself feeling a keen sense of dread, as I scurried into the nearest hanger with my buddies so we could formulate a plan to get the hell out of here. I realized, shortly after, that I was scared out of my mind. Not startled like all other "horror" games have done, but literally afraid of what will happen to me and my hard-earned items. My crew took two hours getting out of there without pissing of the Zed -- pretty much the same amount of time it took us to get there in 1.5.6. After experimenting with the game some more, I came to appreciate the amount of zed. What my ultimate grievance for this was the rate at which zed respawned. Two or three minutes is a very short time, and if you are a person who is smart and funnels zed into a corridor, killing them can a long time. Long enough for all those zed you just killed to respawn, and you be stuck in a never-ending loop of zed. High zed number? Awesome idea. Low respawn time? Not so great. Clearing an area of Zed should be doable -- not easy, mind you, but doable. You should have at least 10 or so minutes to gather your wits about you before more zed come meandering in. It will be difficult enough for a group to loot an area in that time, as they will probably have to leave some choice things behind before the zed come and deal with bandits who are coming in after one hell of a firefight. As it currently stood in 1.5.7, there was no time between them. The best you could do was go into an area, lure all the zed out far enough, log out and log back in, then go back into the cleared area to get loot. As an avid open-world player, I feel the players should have choices. Want to sneak into the city, grab gear, and get out quietly? Awesome. Want to go in alone, guns a'blazing, and try and grab what you can and get out of there? Probably going to die, but cool. Get a group of friends together and tactically clear an area of zed, fortify it against coming waves while your other mates gather as much gear as possible? Super-freakin'-awesome. The way it was in 1.5.7, you HAD to sneak, there was no other option. While that is a viable and smart option, if I wanted to play a stealth game, I would play a stealth game. I've found all these nice guns with all this ammo, and I'd like to feel that it means something. I want to be vulnerable, but I don't want to go find nice guns to never use them, as it will mean I will face a never-ending horde of undead should I be brazen enough to use it. I have not played the latest version yet (I want to make sure all the major bugs are fixed up first -- I don't want to jump in and starve to death), so I don't know what it is like. If there are less zed, I will be sad. Lot of zed are awesome, but only if the respawn rate is significantly reduced. My two cents.

    Build 1.5.8 rolling update

Cool. Rocket, Virfortis, and the entire DayZ community -- this is not an official game, it is a mod made by an independent fellow who does not have a PR department telling him what may be offensive or not. It was a tad insensitive, yes. Rocket has apologized, and we have all learned from the experience, so Virfortis, please let it go. Now that we have this out of the way and put behind us, can we all shut up about it and get back to critiquing and improving the mod like we are supposed to for an alpha? ...Please?

    1.5.7 update

Too many zombies. Just too many. Maybe, say, half of these.

    1.5.7 update

You know what would be nice? If I could find one.
  7. Suffice to say that I have recently been shot, and require more blood. I, however, have not found anything that does that. How do I regain blood, and where do I find it? I hear I can get an infusion kit an a hospital, but I have NO idea what they look like. Any help?
