People get excited from finding FN-FALs? I go, "Oh fuck me, another FN-FAL." Seriously, I've ran into like 3 at the same helicopter site. Fucking FN FALs. GIVE ME A MACHINE GUN.

If Day Z Had a New Engine, What Would You Want to See?
Ywain posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
At the current moment, the Arma 2 system is somewhat limiting of what the Day Z mod can do. For example, I'd love to see limb injury and further bone injuries beyond the leg bone, but I don't believe that's possible on the current engine, or at least it'd be pretty fucking hard. At the same time, it'd be cool to have a character with an arm blown off from a shotgun and no real solution to the problem. At the current moment, bloodbags and morphine and you're all set. Back to tip top condition, which doesn't really allow for any room persistent injuries. (Not that I'd want leg bone injuries to be persistant at its current stage. Crawling around is a bitch.) -
Translated to English for everyone else.

I think one of the difficulties in this game is recognizing people that you already know. You might've met up with someone, but the next time you see him, you might instead pull a trigger only to go 'Oh shit' when he dies and his name pops up. So, how do we fix this problem? I think hats, much like Team Fortress 2, would make this issue a lot more realistic. Consider it for a moment; there could be hundreds upon hundreds of hats. You'd recognize your friend by the hat he wears - but wait! Someone else might wear the same hat as him. This reflects the fact that people in real life can look similar, especially from far away. It'd be difficult to tell who each other is until you get close enough to actually talk, which reflects you can't really distinguish people from far away. Anyways, thanks for reading, and feel free to leave CONSTRUCTIVE criticism and comments.

^ Hahahahahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahah Good one, those servers'll get shut down. Do some of you come here and just post without paying attention to any of Rocket's interviews/personal philosophy? He is the antithesis of your gay carebear play. go fucking buy l4d2 or something

And you don't see anything ironic about that statement? The fact that survival is easy in a survival-oriented game?
-
Well no shit a player should be scared of other players more than zombies. People are a lot more dangerous than zombies. My issue is with why people are PvPing, rather than the fact they're PvPing. Treating this game as a shooter FFA where the objective is to rack up as much as kills as possible is silly.
-
PvP should be a calculated risk. Dying and respawning over and over while your friend watches your corpse so you can retrieve doesn't seem to be in the spirit of the game. It's not a roguelike if you can recover all your shit that easily, after all. Furthermore, the shooting for the lulz bullshit does need to go. This is mainly due to a lack of things to do moreso than a desire to just grief, though. I don't know if a respawn timer is an accurate response to either of these problems, honestly. You could solve #1 by not allowing players to loot their own corpses (I don't even fucking know why this hasn't been implemented) and you could solve #2 by making survival more difficult and having more things to do once you're decked out in military gear (which takes about an hour for an experienced player given the ridiculous military loot spawn rate at the current moment.)

DayZ, What would you do if you were trapped in the city you live in REAL LIFE!
Ywain replied to tysonbishop's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Suicide. Not down for zombie shit, man. Probably just get really plastered and kill myself. -
I don't know, if you introduce a surrender mechanic, the French servers would go nuts...

What part of never do you not understand? It's like suggesting to the United States, "Hey, maybe you should stop invading other countries." It's pointless.

In the future, electro and churno are history!

Antarctica would be a pretty cool setting. -
Well, first off, your country is the United States of America. It's pretty arrogant of yourself to assume that your one country encompasses all of America, when there are two different continents with multiple countries on each. Secondly, you're showing off your oppressive tendancies by trying to push your religious beliefs on me. I do not believe in your Christ. Please stop trying to convert me.

Actually, Russia is made up of different republics, provinces, districts, and territories. There are no such things as states, and it's pretty silly of you to want to impose the idea of states onto Russian servers.
-
QQ. Rocket isn't going to ever make PvE servers. ever. Leave this game.
-
Yes it is. Russia is bigger than the US. Why is Russia one localized map while every American state has a localized map? It's silly. Not going to happen. Rocket isn't a conceited American.
-
How American-centric. Every state has its own map with its different layabouts while the whole of Russia is just one localized map?
-
Oh no, I get it. This game is unfinished and has a poor survival system that's only challenging to people like you that are bad/new at the game.
-
Aha. I'm playing the game wrong. Of course. In order to make the survival aspect an actual threat, I should handicap myself from using all that the mod offers me. I'd never seen it until now. Thank you for enlightening me. In order to enjoy the game, I have to prohibit myself from utilizing part of it. Got it.

Exploits, bugs, security flaws need to be fixed before I'd purchase it. Already paid for Arma 2, not down to dish out more money unless there's vast improvements.

What percentage of players you meet/engage Alt+F4?

OH GEE WHAT AN INTELLIGENT COUNTER THANKS IVE NEVER THOUGHT OF THIS BEFORE GUESS ITS NOT AN EXPLOIT AFTER ALL GUYS LOCK THIS THREAD\ -
This game would be nothing without PvP. That being said, the current "let's get high powered sniper rifles and shoot people on the coast" is pretty reflective of a lack of things to do after you get past the learning curve.

Sorry, I have this tendancy to insult idiots. As for approaches to fun, who are you to decide what's fun for me? If scaring the shit out of someone on a mic entertains me, then clearly I'm having fun. Also, I do recall the regular stance being here that it's a sandbox and you make your own fun. So, sure, trolling a game does make. Furthermore, please point out where I claimed that I hated the game? I find it amusing your entire post is based on a strawman. Once again, if reading comprehension served you properly, you would understand my remark of "It's gotten pretty dull," is directed towards the standard approach to the game, but I guess skimming through posts and nerd raging gets where you are, eh? I do find it amusing how you refuse to acknowledge the fact that this game has a pretty horrible survival aspect at the moment. Zombies are a joke, food/water is a joke, diseases are a joke.
-
"The PvP is pretty meaningless ATM, so I don't know. I'm forced to look to other approaches to making this game fun. Flying solo and trying to help noobs and shit. Trolling people with mics." Reading comprehension skills are at an all time high, I see. I also find it amusing that the approach to people discontent with the game is "don't be a part of this community, then." This game is an alpha. It is subject to changing. Like the game at its current state? Cool. Don't expect it to last, though. Rocket does intend to take it beyond the current state its at, because at the moment, it's an incomplete game. The game has a highly undeveloped survival aspect and basically serves as a sandbox that slowly gravitates more experienced players to treating it like a shooter due to lack of things to do. Rocket himself has mentioned promoting group play and having more end game content during his interviews, IIRC. There are three types of PvPers. 1. People shooting due to paranoia of getting shot first by victim. 2. People shooting to obtain better loot. 3. People shooting for shits and giggles. #3 is hardly realistic, and it reflects a lack of content for players that are engaging in such activity. If the highlight of their gameplay is killing other people for fun, then that doesn't sound very survival oriented. It's not that the problem is people are PvPing aimlessly; it's that they're doing it because there's little else to do.
