I want to live stream/record gameplay. Optimization ideas, and help please?
Alpo replied to Noise (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
I like Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder (FMLE) becauses it is free and it uses almost no resources. I can even run it as a batch file in a command window. But xsplit should be easier to use and I think the basic version is free. Have you tried it yet? Let me know if you need help with fmle I can give you pointers how to set it up. http://www.adobe.com...ia-encoder.html -
Hey you are absolutely free and encouraged to open a new thread if you feel the topic deserves it. But remember, sometimes people write helpful answers in reply to a random post and it may not always be directed at the opening post.

Do I understand correctly that this log-file is hosted remotely on the game server, and you have to download a 2GB text-file before you can view it in an editor? Or do you open it directly on the server via rcon? If so, then is this not an unacceptable waste of cpu time and other resources?

I avoid other players like the plague. I play solo for the most part, and luckily I have acquired an L85A2 AWS along with an AS50 recently. It really helps my game-plan which is to stay completely stealthy and hidden from others as long and as best as I can. So far I have gotten quiet good at it and I cannot wait until I finally luck-box into a ghillie-suit. But I don't even know if that thing is still in the game. Whenever I detect another player I hide as best as I can but always keep an eye on his positioning and if he has detected me or is about to. Unfortunately for him I will light him up the second I think he sees me. I usually blame it on myself for not being careful enough when I have to kill another player and generally feel bad about it unless I can previously confirm that he is a bandit or ambushing people. The only people that get a pass from me are guys without weapons, and the unlucky chaps with broken legs. So basically yes I shoot on sight. But only if he somehow manages to see me. I have to do this. It is the only way I can survive. Talking to strangers over mic is not an option anymore for me - unfortunately, I have to say.

congrats Hellspawn US469 on your DC/Ghost kill
Alpo replied to osiriszoran's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hey come lads, I really don't understand why everybody is going popcorn.jpg here. OP was being a tad paranoid and wrongfully accused someone of exploiting. It happens. And it's not out of the realm of possibilities that a person actually disconnected and ghosted him. Last time I checked I heard people sometimes do this in DayZ^^ Obviously in this case OP just got a bit too greedy when he saw that juicy bicycle (understandable) and decided to ignore necessary precautions before approaching the object. What I generally disapprove of is opening a new thread with the sole reason of pointing a finger at someone, however. But I do understand why OP would feel malcontent to a certain degree. It is an issue with the game at the current time, and we are all hoping that the developers find a solution soon. Until then, let's enjoy our beans. -
I believe that the only way of combating a cheater is through communication and honest admins and players working together. Learning about all that I really don't expect you admins to go though those steaming piles of logs just to be able to submit a ticket to the "authorities". Is there a way of using a shared banned players database like other games do? I am talking about a community-maintained tool with which the admins can share their bans.txt and compile it into a global ban-list effective for all servers where this tool is installed?

Holy cow a 2GB log-file is just insane! Why is Arma 2 engine not splitting it into smaller more manageable chunks? Why is it so difficult to find out if/when modified scripts have been run on a specific server? Is it not possible to block foreign/modified scripts from being run on an Arma2 server? Or at least have some sort of routine that flags them as "external"?

Plea for allowing small private or lan servers...
Alpo replied to mbcb's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I don't see why other people would have a problem with it if the character and gear are bound to that one server. As long as you can't gear up on private servers then take that shit for pub mayhem I think it would be fine. -
I recorded a dayz session recently. The story of betrayal begins at 21:20 when I meet a random person and decide to help him survive. Lesson learned? Whenever I meet people like this now I force them to type in direct chat so that I can identify their name. If they do not answer promptly I kindly introduce them to Mrs. Hatchet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXUOPJDzPzc

OP is talking about rev. 95168 right?

20 words or less: Super-Low Humanity Detection
Alpo replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Basically just don't make it always the same thing. Sometimes your body temp might drop a bit for no reason, or screen changes color/saturation/brightness, a slight shudder/shiver shaking your screen for half a second etc. Just mixing it up so it's not such an obvious giveaway like the heart beat. -
I'm running like a madman in a black and moonless night. I think I am somewhere along the south coast but I could as well have re-spawned east of Elektro. In short, I have lost all my sense of direction. My vision is already monochromatic and a steady stream of blood is pouring out the back of my head into the horde of zombies breathing down my neck. Road-flare-in-hand I am running through what seems an open field when after an eternity of stumbling around in the darkness I finally find an empty barn. Immediately I head inside, go upstairs, and throw my road-flare down on the ground where the zombies are already grouping up. The game is kind to me and I luck-box into an Enfield so I start popping the zombies one by one as they walk up the stairs. I am still bleeding and everything is surrounded by this eerie red glow as I try to recuperate and catch my breath on the top floor of this barn. Suddenly my heart skips a beat and adrenaline starts pumping as I hear very subtle footsteps right outside the barn next to the wall where I am crouched. The footsteps are slow but not slow enough to be coming from a zed. I come to the realization that someone is out there and that he is trying to sneak into the barn. I am almost certain he is after me. My Lee Enfield and all the road-flares must have alerted him of my presence. (Friendlies do not sneak up into seemingly populated barns at night without first identifying themselves to the seemingly scared noob right?) I try not to move and give away my position. My sights are pointed at the entrance and then I wait. I think that he knows that I am hiding in here somewhere.. His intentions are not completely obvious to me but trying to sneak into a barn that is lit up by flares and glowsticks might have been a mistake on his part. Then I see a head, and part of a gillie-suit leaning around the corner of the doorway. He is scanning the area with his rifle but has not discovered me yet sitting pretty upstairs. The moment he looks up to me I pull the trigger and put a bullet between his eyes. I hear the heavy thump of his lifeless corpse dropping to the ground. The road-flare extinguishes, and everything is dark and quiet again. I can only hear my own breath and my heartbeat racing against the crickets. A few minutes later I decide to head downstairs and examine his body. Villain is completely decked out. GPS, NVG, CZ50, Silenced pistol, Compass, Matches - everything I need to survive on my own in out in the wilderness. Thank you my villain friend for not instantly disconnecting and letting me have your gear. Gear which must have taken forever to acquire. I feel remorse for taking his life and strange guilt for stealing his gear, and I hope it will not take him too long to reassemble his equipment. His name does not appear in the player list anymore when I check. I feel a little bit bad for ruining his dayz and making him quit. But I am not afraid of the dark anymore.

Sounds very impressive. Have been in the steady 35-45 fps range so far, and it's been playable. It would be nice to actually match my monitor refresh rate, however. Looking forward to this.

20 words or less: Super-Low Humanity Detection
Alpo replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
(YES) I would prefer a very subtle and short screen shake, simulating the cold shiver running down one's spine when looking directly at a person with very low humanity. Maybe a slight change in color saturation and/or short moment of impaired hearing after your own heart "skips a beat". Basically making it a subconscious help but also balancing it out by having a small disadvantage. -
Need morphine and blood in Mogilevka
Alpo replied to SubEclipse's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Mogilevka is only a 20-30 min crawl to Cherno hospital. If you take the road down south-west to Visota then turn left once you hit main road, it will lead you directly to the Hospital and apartment buildings. Be strong and have faith in yourself brother. Also fyi, your life expectancy will drop significantly once you post location and server info here. -
Why you re-posting a picture I took and already posted in this thread brother? Nevermind. Don't worry about it I don't mind.

What percentage of players you meet/engage Alt+F4?

No need to install malware on people's PC's I think. ^^ I am on the 10 second disconnect timer boat. -
Player respawns multiple times after kill
Alpo replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Not sure if he's able to actively exploit this bug I encountered yesterday. Or if it was some other random bug occurring on the server you were on. But perhaps what you can see in my video is a similar issue but caused server sided. I really didn't know what to think of this so just hit the respawn button and left for a different server. Maybe some sort of corrupt player data? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYr5XgA1RME&feature=plcp -

Alpo replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What's that supposed to mean, and what does this have to do with the issue? Whether you are roleplaying a bandit or a survivor should not really matter right? Without asshats who randomly shoot people this game would be very stale. The zombies are something you just need to avoid. Other people are things you need to really worry about. If it was a co-op game then the Zeds would need to be a LOT tougher. Btw, I am not a bandit and I don't randomly shoot at people if I don't really have to but I am very glad that I need to worry about those whenever I scavenge a place. It makes the game so much more intense. -
What percentage of players you meet/engage Alt+F4?
Alpo replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Close to 100% of the players that I encountered in DayZ so far have disconnected a moment after I shot them. I personally enjoy it when I get into those tense moments where your life is on the line. Just to see how my brain works under simulated pressure is very interesting and a great learning experience for me. Training your brain to function and not panic under pressure is a great thing and useful in many real life situations I think. I don't mean something like zombie apocalypse real life situations but maybe in a traffic situation or in some sort of panic ones brain might function better and make better decisions in split seconds if it has gone through a similar situation before. I think the Alt-F4 guys all can't handle those pressure situations. Their brains just shut down basically so it's their only option. Maybe you can compare it to the Corporal from the movie Saving Private Ryan. You know that guy with the typewriter that messes up the ammo supply really bad under pressure in the end and a lot of people die because of him? I picture people who use alt-f4 tactics to be this kind of person. They are not bad or anything. Just too scared. -
The first time I played DayZ I spawned west of Kamenka. I made the mistake of heading NW because I did not know the map "ended" there... After about 2 hours I got frustrated and respawned with still no equipment and dying of thirst and hunger. I then spawned in Elektro and was killed pretty much instantly. Then I found dayzdb.com.

As DayZ's popularity continues to grow, so do the Hackers.
Alpo replied to Flawed's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Mathew Broderick would be proud. Not even close to scrip-kiddie-level. Yeah it makes me cringe every time I read this word on a gaming forum. But for today's gaming generation a cheater has become a hacker. I blame today's media throwing around the big words for decades. Makes cheating almost sound like a some sort of skill and something that the cool kids do now. -
It's... Beautiful...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PD8ZQxMA_k Got a bit tired of hombres DCing so I started recording with Fraps. Honestly I don't really care if people DC - it makes them a wuss in my eyes but that is their own problem. What I find very repulsive are people who quickly move to different server so that they can fix themselves up, and then relocate to a better spot in order to kill me . At least I think that is what happened here. And it was not the first time. Just the first time I have it on vid and I think it is pretty hillarious. I feel like I failed in the end but all I really wanted was to get this low-life ghoster and his buddy. What would you have done in this situation? How can I improve in the future so I don't get destroyed like this when I had initiative? I understand the dude was probably cheating/ghosting but I am still not happy with my performance I think my positioning was terrible. Sadly I can't even blame it on bad audio because my headset is great. I was at that particular location for the first time so I did not know the surroundings aside from how it looked on the map. Still, after watching this I was quiet disappointed at how poorly I adapted to the changing dynamics. The guy who Alt-F4ed was sneaking right behind the wall, and I verbally shared my thoughts about his "strategy" with him over comms - unfortunately I noticed later on that I was in global chat - not direct chat so he most likely didn't hear my calm voice and the wisely chosen words that I threw at him just before he blew my brains out. Question: Should I just disconnect myself when I suspect someone is going to try to ghost me? Honestly, when that first bullet whizzed by my ear I was thinking about it because omg so unfairz blahblah but then I pulled myself together and just wanted to go kill this sob. Meh no cigar for today unfortunately, but one of the next times eventually... I hope Rocket and his crew find a solution to this problem in the near future. I absolutely love this game but playing against those kind of people a large portion of the time is just not very satisfying.

Hey thanks for the good advice Zipper. No need to apologize I should have chosen a better description/title. I wish I could change the thread title. But I will rename the video title as you suggested. Going up stairs didn't even cross my mind at the time. But yes it would probably have been my best option. In regards to the location of where the gunshots came from; I just watched the scene again a few times, and it seems they both shot almost simultaneously. I could hear two shots - the second shot I hear just a split second after the loud bang is the guy I tried to aim at in the treeline. He is my killer according to you? The very loud gunshot that I initially thought killed me came from my direct left. I am certain it was the guy who DC'd on me (I believe he then switched server to crawl under that gap and try to get behind where he thought I was) Well, at least he didn't get the kill. Makes me feel a bit better. Nice observation. Again, I would not have noticed. I still think he did the ghosting and whether it was needed to kill me or not I don't know. Probably not but that doesn't make it any more acceptable. If we are perfectly strict one could define the act of disconnecting and then reconnecting a minute or two later as ghosting. He is essentially cheating to save his life and to get an unfair advantage over you. When he logs back in after a while he expects you to have moved on or be otherwise distracted so he can get an easy unexpected and unfair kill. I sometimes wonder, when did those people lose all their dignity? In regards to the location of my spawn, yes I started recording immediately after connecting. I was disconnected earlier during nighttime by yellow chain on a different server. (I usually don't craw around walls on top of hills too much during daytime ;)) Usually try to find a safe concealed spot in the woods before logging out.
